A few kilometers away from Baywater Village Resort, you will find Rondevlei Bird Hide. I cycled to the hide, and I found some photographers ready and waiting for the perfect picture. There's a range of different birds, but to lay eyes on them, you need to be prepared to sit for hours, with binoculars. It is worth the wait. The regular birds were out and about. A beautiful view and experience. The hiking trail is right next to the entrance of the path to the hide.

Great venue. Just ensure you pack in your binoculars and zoom lenses in! No toilet facilities so travel light. 😉

DON'T FOLLOW GOOGLE MAPS PIN. Follow Sanparks Rondevlei Office pin, and follow signs from there. Beautiful area, abundant birdlife

Wonderful biome to explore, with estuarine, duneveld, riverine and coastal forest habitats. The Cape Dune Molerat Trail is worth a visit. Excellently laid out with plenty of views and birdlife viewing opportunities. Also great for reptiles particularly tortoises (seasonal). The trail is not strenuous and offers a 6km or a 9km loop. The bird hide is great for photography enthusiasts. Best to go in groups of 3 or more for safety reasons. Highly recommend this as an outing for young and old alike.

Trail overgrown, no demarcated parking area, access road in poor condition. I suggest it's not safe for anything other than groups of people

Great bird hide indeed! I've come here many times and seen many special birds. Come here with your binos and you long-lensed cameras for the amazing water birds that are ready to pose📷

Beautifully clean hide in great condition. Wonderful, peaceful birding. The first part of the short walk to the hide is very sandy, so it works be very difficult for wheelchairs or those who struggle with mobility. Unfortunately toilets were locked when I was there 😖

A small hide but we always enjoy spending time there. Purple Gallinule, Black Crake, Crested Grebe, even the magestic Fisheagle and the elegant Purple Heron. Take a picnic basket, binoculars and your camera. No need to rush. There is parking, but it is limited. It gets busy in season.

You are almost guaranteed some worthwhile bird sightings at this hide. It is in good condition. The Park's staff are friendly if you meet them. Photographed a Pied kingfisher catching & consuming his lunch.

WRONG DIRECTION! Take Sanparks Rondevlei office pin instead and follow the signs to the hide. Don’t follow this pin’s directions on maps. We ended up doing a 5km loop and got pretty lost and eventually found the hide. Incorrect location pin directed us to the seven passes gravel road, and had to climb over a wooden ladder over the fence. Tis hide is fantastic though!
