This is a very decent pub with a good sized beer garden, with a great choice of food and drink. Let me not forget the great service received whilst we dined!!!

🚇 Bethnal Green 🍺 £5.60 Amstel ❤️ A versatile Bethnal Green boozer. . The Old George is located amongst the hustle and bustle on Bethnal Green Road. The nearest tube is Bethnal Green which is only a five minute walk away. . This pub is believed to have been present by 1703 and by the mid-nineteenth century was trading as the George IV. It was rebuilt in its present form in 1880. . The decor here is rustic with exposed brickwork walls and a dark wood floor running throughout. There is plenty of low level seating and banquette sofas around the perimeter walls. Down the right hand side is a good size servery with barrels above advertising upcoming events. If you like your live sport you’re in luck, there are large screens showing Premier League, Six nations and the like. Even though this isn’t a riverside pub there is a slight nautical feel to the place. A big bonus here is the large beer garden at the rear which gets very busy in the warmer months. . The beer line up was decent and included craft and cask options. Being the boring fart that I am I chose a pint of Amstel, my pint was very agreeable and under six quid. There is a good selection of comfort food on the food menu, burgers and pizzas are the order of the day, the food did smell good. . The atmosphere was relaxed on this Saturday afternoon with a dozen or so punters in for the footy. There were a few tables with reserved signs on which I’m not a fan of, some pubs seem to operate this way to guarantee business, so I can see why. The crowd was mix of all ages until about twenty young lads walked in which lowered the aggregate some what. This pub livens up in the evenings and has DJ and Karaoke nights throughout the month. . I last visited @theoldgeorgebg back in 2017 and not a lot has changed. My review was positive then and I can report that my review is positive now. There is plenty to enjoy at this boozer, get this one on the list. . ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 04.02.23

On Wednesdays they have wings for 30p. They also offer a vegetarian option which is cauliflower wings. The idea is cute BUT the cauliflower wings were so small it was ridiculous, the waitress is the rudest and most entitled person I’ve ever seen working in a pub, and the garden closed at 10pm. Don’t bother

The food was disappointing. We ordered the Fish & Chips, and the loaded pulled beef style fries - it took around 25mins for the food to arrive which would have been okay if they came to the table fresh.... The loaded fries (£9) ended up becoming one solid piece glued together with cheese as though it was sitting aside for a while & lukewarm (pic attached). The fish & chips seemed overcooked. The fish was over fried on one side and piping hot vs the colder fries on the plate. The menu said "skin on fries" but they were just freezer McDonald's style fries. It was not a classic pub style meal at all - and definitely not worth the £15. The service from the guy at the bar was great and apologized but we had already pre-paid at the bar.

Good pub with pints from £4.80 which is an acceptable price for London. Also has an extensive food menu with decent looking food. Atmosphere was great when we watched the Liverpool v Man City game in here.

Fine but nothing special. Disappointed that some offers shown in the menu (e.g. 2-4-1 cocktails) weren't running in December, but there was nothing to indicate that until we were told by staff at the bar.

The Karaage Kid chicken burger was amazing. It's crispy chicken with coleslaw and a little bit of spice. Five stars for that. The fries are like twigs though, those need an upgrade. I came here to watch a football game and I'm glad I did - there are loads of screens and lots of seating. Good beer selection too. Will definitely be back.

This use to be a good pub where a group of 30 plus friends met for Wednesday Wings . The new owner manager is rude and grumpy He hassled us to buy drinks , we couldn’t even wait till all of us arrived. Wednesday Wings Was great but now the sauces cost extra !! We have now decided to take our cocktail drinking , wings eating , weekly catchups elsewhere . Very short sighted ! Soz

In the last 5 years this place has gone from being a vibrant fun busy place to a souless empty venue. Often they are short of staff so you may have to wait ages to be served. Food is very poor. They often run out of draught beers. Wednesdays and the weekend there is a table booking system so often the place is empty.

Food was really good, served quickly (there was no-one else eating though), the ladies behind the bar were great, the first barman (and that's being generous) needs sacking frankly. Couldn't pull a pint, offered the non-drinker a pint of soda stained with the tail end of the coke syrup and said "try it anyway", beer was sour, 3 of the lines were down and the entire place was cold, somehow all the tables were booked though. No idea what they served them. Genuinely decent and interesting pub let down by 1 poor staff member and a lack of stock (bearing in mind this was a Saturday night with the Rugby World Cup final on).

Booked a few tables for 20+ people 2 weeks in advance. Absolutely no fuss, £40 deposit that I could then use behind the bar which was great for proving snacks for people. Cauliflower wings with siracha mayo were incredible. Dj made some weird selections but nice vibes all round. Some security were a bit intense but mostly really friendly

Decent pub for a quick drink but the food is of very poor quality. Ordered some nachos for the table and nobody dared touching it. (The guacamole was literally frozen). Someone else ordered a burger with chips and it looked like they threw it on the plate.

Booked a function room for 5 hours with group of 24 people. When we arrived nobody seemed to know anything, lights were off in the room and staff behind the bar unhelpful. Then we were forced to leave two hours early by security due to sudden earlier closing time with no prior warning. Completely ruined my 30th birthday. On the night I was promised a full refund for my booking but manager and managing company have stopped replying to emails. Drinks were priced much higher for my tab than the menu prices. Total scam, avoid!!!

Super beer garden and excellent venue for sport with plenty of tv viewing spots. Enjoyed a great pizza while watching the challenge cup rugby

I'm not very familiar with the London pub scene, so my opinions are very much filtered through my American eyes. It seemed we waited an inordinately long time to be served our food, but the food, once it came out, was quite good. The appetizers were especially tasty. The Sloppy Joe sandwich would have been improved with more filling and fresher bread. Overall, after a long wait, it was a pleasant meal.

Decent local boozer, showing live sport. Prices are average for the area but the actual place itself is nicer than many around.

We ordered burgers (the bourbon bb king and the angry hash) both were hot, fresh and delishious. Will definitely come again. Great service from the bar staff too. Great music on a friday night too!

A very excellent pub, I must say. The food and beverages are excellent, the ambience is lovely, and the service are outstanding. The pub's décor is stunning, with a vintage/retro feel while still keeping a welcoming, homey atmosphere. Upon arrival, I was welcomed with one of the warmest greetings and was continually asked if I was okay; the staff took great care to ensure that each customer was well taken care of and satisfied with their food/drink. Will definitely recommend for a night out, a family Sunday brunch, or just a relaxed atmosphere.

Beautiful, large old fashion English pub with huge garden, friendly staff and very cool guests. Food is delicious and very versatile. During the weekend evenings it's a top party venue with DJ, live music and crazy, dancing, sexy atmosphere until 2am. Will come again definitely!

Cool beer garden, can’t wait for the sunny days to kick off so we can watch football outside. By far the best outside destiny in the local area. The food was good too. Loved David - proper fun fella! 🤘🏽

Great drinks, music and bar staff unfortunately let down by the bouncers. Turned a friend of mine away for not having ID when she’s CLEARLY over 18 and literally showed them it on her phone. Seems between the two of them they only knew 4 words “no ID no entry” no reasonable reason was given why my friend wasn’t allowed in. I think the pub really needs to educate them on the law or replace them.

We were looking for somewhere just to have a drink late Thursday afternoon and decided to stop at The George rather than walk down to Shoreditch. The staff were friendly and made us feel welcomed; it had a very relaxing and inviting atmosphere plus I liked the fact that the decor wasn’t too jazzed up or too modern. It was only a brief visit; the wine was fine so we are quite happy to go back there again.

One of my new favourite locals. I highly recommend this spot. Not sure what the most recent review was going on about, as all the staff I have encountered on their small team have been super friendly, chatty and polite. :) I came in for the first time a week ago and the atmosphere was relaxed and calm, which is rare for pubs along busy main roads. I’ve since come back in twice - to do a bit of work and to catch up with an old friend.

Brilliant venue! The service, drinks, food and atmosphere all great. Pizzas were spot on. If you're undecided in a group, you can't go wrong with their pizzas. Theres plenty of variety on the menu so i'm looking forward to coming back and sampling the rest. Special mention to the team who made this evening worthwhile. It seems like across many bars in Bethnal Green, these guys are definitely standing out

I loved the garden, booked specifically for there. The guys had everything ready, even a cute little message on a small chalkboard with my name on it. I ordered the jackfruit pizza and it was amazing. Really nice. I was even pleasantly surprised with the selection of beer. I would recommend it to a friend - nice food, good atmosphere, friendly staff. Really lovely

Friendly pub with outdoor area at back. Big TV screens to watch sport. We were a bit disappointed with the food this time which people thought mediocre at best. Still probably the nicest pub on Bethnal Green Rd.

Lovely little pub! Nice beer garden out the back. Ordered food and the order was wrong the first two times but the lady working was super helpful and friendly. She made sure the order was corrected and when it did arrive it was absolutely delicious! Would defo come again!!

Really lovely pub! Atmosphere is fantastic, good selection of music playing, friendly bar staff and good sized garden. Bookings are taken care of so well. Function room is available to book. Loads of tasty craft beers. Quiz nights on Wednesday are so well organised. Would recommend 10000% .

A staple of the Bethnal Green area with solid food and drinks and a lovely interior that’s a fun mix of traditional pub and funky modern styling!! The garden in the back is especially nice during the summer. We visited for a Sunday roast in the garden and stayed to watch the F1 throughout the afternoon and the staff and management were incredibly nice and accommodating. We’ll definitely be back 😄

I absolutely love this place! Great service, lovely craft offer and V. is always so nice. Love how the garden gas changed and can't wait for the Jubilee, already talking to my people about booking for bottomless brunch. It is definitely my favourite place in Bethnal Green! Would recommend to everyone.

What a gem! Delicious food, stunning decor and amazing staff. Yep, when the angels sing down on Bethnal Green, the chorus cries out for the Old George! So versatile as well: perfect for a quiet lunch, a hot date and a weekend boogie. Some days, I even do all three in one go! Special kudos to the barman in blue glasses. Not only is he witty and tall, but his customer service is, in a word, spectacular. He's going on to big things, I can tell, The man could serve crisps to the queen and make it a memorable experience for all involved. He's undoubtedly Bethnal Green's premium bartender. Not a surprise since the Old George is Bethnal Green's premium boozer!

Their bottomless brunch was amazing, great value for money and the staff were very attentive - we never had an empty glass on the table! Mateusz was really fun and made sure we were all having a good time. A lovely East End pub, chilled vibes, great atmosphere! Would 100% recommend, we will be back :)

What a great night! I visited with a couple of friends and had a blast. The food was great, the drinks were great and the service was EXCELLENT. Our server was called josh and he really went above and beyond to make our experience special. I would 100% recommend.

Long time regular of this pub and deeply disappointed at how downhill it's gone in such a short time. The food prices have skyrocketed while the portion sizes have halved, have come on a Thursday night (on a pivotal Europa match for our local west ham) and found only two behind the bar and one on the floor. The waiting time for drinks was at least 10 minutes and the food was an hour, the staff only recently hired, undertrained and understaffed so the bar was covered with 100+ dirty glasses. Heard from some locals that the new general manager had, just the night before, been going round telling random punters 'the staff here are s**t, I didn't hire them, I'm going to sack this lot and hire new'. This to me seems a deeply unprofessional and inappropriate way for a manager to behave and I can't put the blame anywhere but her door. Can't stress enough those on the bar were working their arses off, heard from another regular the previous lot left in exodus upon the regime change, think they're due another. Nice garden, food way overpriced swerve it

This used to be a fantastic place to go. 7 of their 12 beers had run out. Ridiculous. And then the beer cost over £7 a pint. You wouldn't believe it but then they had the football on but were also having a quiz on. So anyone wanting to watch the football has no sound and anyone wanting a quiz has football playing!? What is this circus?
