The Lamb and Flag is my favorite pub in Oxford. It is a lot more local flair as the nearby Eagle and Child, which usually is overrun by masses of tourists. The Lamb and Flag has a great selection on great local ales, IPA's and even great German Pilseners on tap. The atmosphere is very relaxed, the staff is welcoming, knowledgeable and very friendly ... exactly as you would imagine it in a good old English pub. Will come back!

We dropped in on a cold wet afternoon and were greeted with a lovely warm friendly pub. It felt like a lot more of a local than some of the more touristy pubs in Oxford. The staff were lovely and they had a great selection of beers. The food looked good, unfortunately this time around we weren't eating. Next time we might well give it a try. Recommended if you want more of an authentic British local pub vibe.

Recently reopened, good to see the place again. Clearly a lot of work has already taken place on the refurbishment, with more to do. A wide selection of ales are available. Worth a visit.

Like most places you need to sign in for track and trace purposes. Safe distancing with table service which I feared would take a while to get served with no one at the bar but the friendly guy at the door took my order swiftly and the food arrived promptly. Very decent steak and ale Suet pudding. No burgers or chips if that's what you're after. More a sandwich, jacket potato, quiche, ploughman's, lasagne or pie place but nice enough and fairly priced.

Quant traditional pub a little (5 mins walk) off the crowded and touristy center of Oxford. Friendly service and clearly popular with the locals. Good choice of drinks and very good inexpensive pub food. The plowmans are excellent and at just under 7 pounds exceptional value (see picture). Highly recommended to get away from the crowded centre for a quick drink or bite.

L&F is an excellent, classic pub in central Oxford. Talking to the staff, it sounds like it's being very carefully restored to its historical origins. It makes a great study space during the day with coffee and pastries. It also has a warm community buzz at night, with a lot of locals and students rubbing shoulders. The beer selection can't be beat in Oxford--all local and rotating taps. Their spirit selection is surprisingly diverse, too. And the staff is amazing, you can tell they really care about the pub and the product.

A very good selection of local craft brews. As an American brewer on vacation it was such a welcome relief to get some craft beer with full flavor and alcohol content. We were staying just up the road and I loved stopping for a pint on our way to and from the tourist stuff to help keep my spirits up. Thank you, thank you, thank you for being an island among all the other pubs serving the usual low alcohol beer. Oh, and the bartenders were fast and friendly.

Visiting after the returning, and currently it looks unfinished, with blank walls with loose cabling in the eastern room. The bare walls also made it very noisy/echoey.

Hoorah! The Lamb and Flag finally reopened on the 6th Oct 2022. If you want the authentic college pub experience in Oxford then this is the place to start! Lots of history, funny 500 year old building, ales to keep the men happy and lovely service! A proper old pub...

Brilliant selection of beers (especially Belgian!) and the best pork scratchings. only downside is it’s cash only - though this can be a good thing sometimes !!

The re-opened Lamb & Flag has it all - great atmosphere, outstanding looks, and a wide variety of beers on tap. Tables outside are a particularly nice touch.

Great pub… they change the style of the beers regularly. The service is fast and warm. You can pay by cash or card. Lone or in group, sure you had a good time.

Certainly one of the best pubs in town. Excellent beer, great atmosphere in the evenings. An authentic pub experience. During the day you tend to get a more sedentary crowd. No cooked food, but the chilli nuts are great!

A nice little English Pub right in the heart of Oxford and beside one of Oxfords University Buildings. Staff are friendly at the bar, great selection of Beers, Ales and Ciders. A real Oxford Classic

Met with family friend for tea, and then cider, and pale ale. All excellent. Setting is wonderful; low-ceiling pub on one side, high-ceilinged parlour on the other. Who knew scholars would be such energetic socialites?

First visit since the reopening. Now an excellent place for a drink, one of the best pubs for real and craft beer in Oxford.

This has now been fully refurbished and is a vast improvement. The interior is traditional but light and roomy, with large ante rooms towards the back. And a huge bonus for Oxford, the toilets are extremely well kept with a high quality fitting. As for the beers, a large number of real ales and craft beers. The real ales included genuinely interesting selections from smaller more niche outfits. I tried the Cotswold North one, a pleasant and nice session IPA. The real ale scene in Oxford has upped its game enormously in the past few years and I found the Lamb and Flag and the Royal Blenheim to be the two best in the City Centre now.

Very quaint pub. Low ceilings, amazing selection of beer and great atmosphere. Amazing history here and we had a great time. Would come back!

This is one of the great small pubs in the area. And what's better is that it's not one of the Michelson pub chains. Not that they are bad... I just prefer the non chain pubs for variety and some different options. The food is amazing and the atmosphere is awesome. It's wild busy during happy hour so if you want a seat get there before 5pm.

Nice to see this place thriving under the new ownership/post renovations. Nice beers and cosy atmosphere!

New ownership. New management. New atmosphere. Rammed, noisy, busy, chaotic, and full of intense conversation. Have been coming here since 1982. Beer choice is broad and excellent. Staff seem to know their beers. Be prepared to duel for a seat, because you may not find an empty one. The other part of the “new atmosphere” is that the old (Medieval) loos have been massively revamped and no longer pong. ;-)

Very nice, lively place. They offer interesting beers, and often change the offering. I ordered one of the special beers, it took a long time to get the order delivered - then, they declined to be paid by me!? Very generous. Had a nice time.

Lovely pub with a fantastic selection of beers and ciders. I had a cracking IPA from the Siren Brewery that was recommended by the staff it didn't disappoint! This pub has brilliant history with CS Lewis, Lewis Carrol, and JRR Tolkien frequenting here. Definitely recommend and will be coming here again.

First time back since it reopened and since the renovations. If I'm honest, I preferred the old version, with the extended bar in the front drinking area. The other main thing I noticed was that the pub used to sell Palmers Bitter. This has now gone. The prices have increased considerably since I was last there.

Amazing selection of draft beerz but I nevertheless opted for a the usual (pint of prospect). Nuff respekt to the new govs, Alice and Dylan, and all the staff who are all very friendly and more educated than most in this particular town. Loved the home-made sausage rolls, the atmospheric music and the lack of plants on the tables. Coffee was excellent thanks to the daily recalibration of the coffee grinder.

Great pub. Lovely atmosphere, great craft beer, and really delicious bar snack selection including sausage rolls and pretzels.

Amazing pub experience and some of the best variety of craft and local beers in Oxford! Also the staff are amazing, friendly, and knowledgeable!

Lovely local real ales. Currently, no chef so no food since reopening . I'm hoping to give them a better star rating once food is available.

Fantastic choice of beers and friendly staff. Was busy despite being a Tuesday! Would 100% recommend

Not much choice of ales, only citrus types on draught. No zero alcohol beers for the designated driver. They used to have a brilliant range of bitters once but no more. Disappointed.

One of the few traditional pubs. A student haunt, but not just that. Paint work has seen better days but then again - it's part of it's charm! Gorgeous big fire places, dim lighting and a great, grown-up atmosphere.

Old Oxford pub which serves local beer at a fair price. Good beer range with plenty of seating.

Recommended to me on Twitter as a good real ale pub. My beer was in good nick just not entirely to my taste. That is just a personal preference. A decent range of bottled Belgian beers was available. The pub was being used by a variety of customers including family groups of all ages. Many people were eating. The menu, traditional pub grub, looked ludicrously reasonable. Nothing over £9.95. As I didn’t eat I can’t comment on the quality, but nobody was complaining. People were talking to each other. Those sat on their own read - and only me from a digital device. Cards are not accepted - cash only.

Checked out a few pubs in Oxford and this was by far the best even in these challenging covid times. Was table service only and the barman was friendly and knowledgeable about the beers available. Prices are also reasonable for the area. It's also traditional and hasn't had the soul ripped out the place by someone with a John Lewis fetish. Next time i'm in Oxford I won't be bothering with the other pubs and will only be drinking here.
