What a nice pub! This is not your typical country pub, but it's still a great venue. Located right next to Portslade train station on a busy high street (often with railway crossing congestion) it is well located for a quick cheeky pint and a burger after work or a Sunday roast. There is an sizeable outdoor area, a few function rooms and lots of space for dining. It even has an icecream bar. The only downside is there is no parking, but the station car park is accessible for a small fee, and it is on numerous bus and train routes.

Delicious all round. Nice staff. Fantastic roast. All quality, delicious ingredients. 10/10. Return in a heartbeat. Good value. Just fabulous. Everything we look for in a roast and more. Also a delicious, creamy smooth rich cauli cheese, out of shot. 100% recommend.

Had the bacon and cheeseburger which tasted great. Chips were amazing. Ice cream and brownie was the best bit.

Just had a great Sunday lunch and have to say experienced some of the best customer service I have received for a long while. A special mention for John who went out of his way to make sure we had a good time. The roast dinners were as good as always and the pudding was delicious. Thank you

Nice pub! Great menu.. I went for the 241 burgers and the burger was very tasty but not very filling! Very small burger with small fries, served in a small plastic basket and if I had to pay the full price of £15.95 I would of been extremely unhappy but instead just left still hungry. Nice and quick service, great pub with lots of seat inside and out and they have various nights on.

Attended a pottery class in the back room of pub. Made a pot and painted a tile. Fabulous fun, good price. Pretty frontage (flowers) to pub welcoming you. Big inside. Different days have different offers on food. We arrived early to eat. Only when we had started the lesson, did we see that if you are attending a class, mention pottery at bar and receive 15% off. You also receive a free drink from a selection list. Chatting with others in group they told us that there is a retro night, quizzes, crafts all going on. Great stuff, hope to return soon.

I recently hired the Platform venue at the back of the pub for my 50th birthday party, we all had food beforehand which was tasty and just what we needed before the party! We were able to set up early and get balloons and the DJ ready for opening at 7pm, we put a big tab on the bar and the staff served people fast. Lots of fun was had by all! The lights and speakers on site were great and we used the projector screen for our extra lights, the sofas on the mezzanine were a great place for people to chill out. I'd 100% use it again - bonus was we could stay til 1am to have a proper party!

The quiz night is great, the food is excellent, as are the surprisingly wide variety of bar snacks. The beer selection is really good. They pretty much always have two different Ascension Ciders on tap, as well as some more regular ones, which is great. I don't know I'd have gone were it not for the quiz night, but now I'd definitely make a special journey to go here over somewhere closer, it's just a really really good pub.

Went for Sunday lunch with some friends. It wasn't as busy as usual, but that's January I guess. Bar staff were extremely efficient and very friendly. Meals came within about 20 minutes which was fine, however asked the waitress for some horseradish which never appeared. Had to go to the bar and request again as there didn't seem to be any floor staff to ask. Meals were very generous and on the whole, had a very nice Sunday experience.

Fantastic roast dinner! Be very hungry. Lovely family lunch but odd the staff couldn't manage to serve an Irish coffee. Not on the menu apparently despite all the ingredients evidently available. Odd!

What a lovely way to enjoy Tuesday evening - 3 soft shell tacos filled with chilli beef or hake, guacamole and sours cream - really delicious. Washed down with a lovely, freshly made Margarita or a Sol Beer - all for only £12. Enchiladas, Nachos and other Mexican treats also available and choices vary weekly. Lovely atmosphere and very friendly staff. Will definitely be doing more ‘Taco Tueadays’.

Nice community pub who make an effort to provide entertainment throughout the week. Good ale, food average. Just started a jam night on Mondays which should fill a quiet night.

Visited Christmas Eve, had to book. Good food, not bad beer, handy for the train. If you go with your wife, you'll end up being told off. The waitresses are all stunningly good looking.

This is a brilliant pub, and also a great place to meet friends and family. The beer is gorgeous, as also is the food. The staff are sweet and welcoming, and I would particularly praise Cat, the manager, and Tom, another manager, for the great job they do. So, come to the Railway, have a lovely evening, and rediscover the sweet side of life!

Very good family meal of Sunday roast and burgers. Everything was beautifully cooked, and there are plenty of seats inside and out. And if the puddings menu doesn't appeal, just look at the 20 or so flavours of ice-cream and sorbet

Such a great pub, often go here for lunch as they have decent 2-4-1 and other special offers. Food is great and decent selection of drinks. Great atmosphere and nice garden.

Here for our annual St Leonard's Beer and Carols. Great atmosphere with the locals as vocal as the rest of us! Generous helping of excellent cheesy chips, and Panatone, a winter stout. The Harveys was good as well.

Lovely pub with excellent selection of beer and ales. Food is well priced well presented and with a good deal of choice and all of this at competitive prices in a great atmosphere and terrific staff.

Went on a Friday night which was very full (to be expected). We ordered food which was good quality, lots of vegan options too. You have to order at the bar even if only ordering food so it can take a while to get to the front of the queue to order as everyone is there to order drinks. Apart from that it was a great evening!

We were visiting Brighton/Hove/Portslade on vacation and our party saw this place and thought Sunday roasts sounded very British. By 1pm this place was packed, primarily by families with small children and several parties with dogs. Order at the bar and note your table number. We had the sirloin roasts which were fine and came with large yorkshire puddings and fried potatoes. Very strong cider and draft beer selection. A bit overpriced for everything but judging by the popularity of this place people seem to enjoy it and it doesn't bother them. Not much on menu is gluten free by default but they worked with us on the roasts to use no gluten containing ingredients. Service was quick and kind, especially considering how busy it was for Sunday lunch.

The Railway is a lively pub, in a convenient location for bus, train or taxi. The atmosphere is great with speedy bar service. Their Sunday roasts are to die for and the 2 for 1 burger night is not to be missed!

Been here a couple of times since things reopened and as before food a drinks, staff and prices all fine. However due to the measures in place to protect staff and customers on one occasion we waited just short of 30 minutes for the first drinks to arrive. Appreciate the efforts being made but do feel that they should manage things a little better possibly by hiring a few extra staff.

It basically was the only place with the kitchen still open (sadly at just 21:30...) in front of the hotel so we didn't have much choice. Food is not too bad, tasty, greasy of course, menu is gigantic and it has a 1000 dishes probably, from hotpot to Singapore food and whatever, portions are generous but the place was just so dirty! Grease all over the table, garbage on the floor, empty cardboard boxes stacked around, just kind of unhygienic all together. Clientele was mostly Chinese so food should be pretty authentic Sichuan, but do mind the hygienic situations...

Have eaten there a number of times. Food is always good as is service. Always an idea to book. Good range of beers and wines and good staff. I think of it as a really good place. Beer Garden is good too.

Absolutely spot on as always and the frozen margaritas are a must try 😍. You HAVE TO BOOK as so popular

While the staff were lovely and the food was good in the moment. However, both my partner (who got the veggie roast dinner alternative) and I both ended up with severe bowel problems, which have caused me to be awake from 3:45am as of the writing of this review due to having to run to the toilet in pain every 5-10 minutes. The food was the only thing we ate on the day of our visit. The food tasted good but not good enough to warrant the food poisoning that came with it.

Atmosphere and bar staff are great, however the kitchen let's it down massively. You can't ruin burger and chips can you?....ah yes you can. No flavour in the burgers and the chips were cooked days ago by their dried out appearance. No thanks, plenty of other pubs around

Booked a table here 22/7 for a catch up with friends. Table was reserved in mezzanine however we managed to get an alternative table in the garden and forgot to let the bar staff know....apologies. Great wine...the best cheesy chips...we will b back. So pleased to see the pub packed after everything that has happened over the past couple of years...thank u

This was the midway spot for myself & my husband to meet a couple of friends and none of us had been here before but we're definitely going back! Food was delicious. Two of us are vegan and they have many vegan options. They make their ice cream there so it's truly unique and it tastes delicious. Staff were very attentive and friendly. Really great value. Highly recommended.

👍👍 Yummy Thai cuisine. I discovered this gem through a colleague and I was not disappointed. The service is quick and the drinks at the bar are reasonably priced.
