I just want to understand something saw the other day i was at Checkers Garden Route Mall, it was towards closing time, when i went to the food serving section to buy myself Roasted Chicken, but i was perplexed by what i saw there, where by i saw the serving ladies there, dishing out un bought food in plastic bags and throwing in on the floor, so i asked them, why are they bagging the food and throwing it on the floor, and they said that they are going to discard it as waste and that was the instruction from the management. i couldn't understand why would checkers throw such quantity of good food away and regard it as waste, while there are thousands of poor people, sleeping on hungry stomach daily. Can someone quickly address this problem. This is still a developing country we can not afford to waste any food. That food could be donated to charities or homeless poor people or the food be given to the checkers staff, hence they told me that they are not even allowed to take it home, it must be thrown away as waste. i am talking about cooked food, there was Chicken Thighs, Drum stick, wing, hakes, vegetables, chips, ribs, eggs, nuggets, etc. This must be Addressed immediately.

Visited them on 21 September at 5pm. Staff are very rude, especially front end controller. There was only 1 till open and we were waiting in the queue for 20 minutes due to staff doing their own shopping. Also had to pack our own bags, as the lady who was doing it, left after she paid for her own shopping. We could also not buy cold meat, as the staff were nowhere to be found. Will definitely not visit them again.

I think the staff has a problem. Perhaps the management should take notice when a cashier who cannot get any any attention when needed however hard she tries just leaves her till and not return something bad is happening. Think one problem is that there are too many items in the shop which are not properly priced. Cashiers are not responsible for that are they? If lines of up to 6 people are waiting at tills on a Thursday morning you decide that P&P might just be a far better option If there is only one brand name on milk is available by 12.00 in the morning?? Still think I must rather go to another shop

Poor service. Till staff chat to each other and ignore customers. Once they do start the till going they have no change....very dissapointing. Continue discussion with neighbouring tills while processing customer. Fire them...

Service is bad and slow. Staff cashiers are rude and not available when needed. On one specific occasion the cashiers kept sending me to another till, finally someone helped me but she was angry and started talking bad things about me out loud cause she wanted to cash up early. I felt so insulted I was nearly in tears. Today there was no service available at the bakery or butchery department.

Just enjoyed this supermarket. Everything under one roof is very convenient. Thank you Checkers for making an effort to keep your prices affordable. Just warn your suppliers that if they continue to raise their prices they will get consumer resistance to their products.

The shop is clean and neat, but it has that typical bad smell that Checkers often has around the butchery area. They do not dispose of fatty liquids correctly.

Please work on serving the customers faster. It takes forever to get out. Other than that it is a great shop.

I dont go here often but when i do its always pleasant with friendly staff and a great variety of products . By far the best chequers in the southern cape

Large selection bakery goods very tasty, like their deli as well especially the delicious soup they make and the staff always friendly

Much better than the normal Checkers and a bigger variety. You find good specials especially when you have the Checkers savings card on top.

This would be a wonderful store if it weren't for the ridiculous use of single-use plastic! The worst example I saw was a grape fruit cut in half covered in clingfilm! If only grapefruits had a biodegradable eco friendly wrapper, oh wait they do! Its called their skin. Please stop removing nature's wrappers and replacing with plastic that will last in the eco system for thousands of year!

Large store with lots to choose from. All your grocery needs will be fulfilled...toys...stationery...hardware...medicine...and much much more. Shelves are well stocked and there's a special around every corner!!

This checkers is a cut above others I have been to. It's in a good area and caters to upmarket clients, maybe that's the reason. Very well stocked with good quality products well presented. World class standard of supermarket, conpares well with similar in Europe and North America

The guy sanitizing was nice and friendly, but at the deli the food was not labeled properly. It was labeled as a sloppy Joe but it was a hotdog bun with a cold vienna and some tomato sauce it was very disappointing and when I got at the till there the cashier gave of a unwelcoming vibe.

Very clean and well stocked. Friendly staff. Nicer than most checkers branches. Be aware however, that the ham and cheese subs are just packed with enough ham to seem like there's anything in there. Laughable. 🤣

Big store stocked with everything from food to hardware. Plenty parking at all entrances. Open Sundays and till 6pm on a Saturday.

On Display meat looked great. Well packed to hide your buying 85% beef fat. Only once unpacked did I notice. Dodgy dodgy.

Love it man cashers and packers nice and helpful but instore rack packers some of them are not helpful and they see you looking for something but they just walk past you and if you ask help they want to direct you to someone else then you stand their for 5 minutes still waiting to know the right price of an appliance because there is never a price tag on the selves or its wrong. But overall it's nice to shop there they have what your looking for.

I love this supermarket because it has most of the household products neatly arranged. This makes it easy for me to find what I am looking for. The prices are also very reasonable. I highly recommend this supermarket to anyone who is looking for a great place to shop for household products.

Prices= always incorrect!!..People check your prices/ receipts before going home!!!.7 times in one month already I had to return to get a refund as your items scanned a wrong price even though you had clear 'marketing signs' Infront of the items ... "Fraudulent" activity going on here...you make thousands of Rands screwing people over with your incorrect prices. Thousands of people getting cheated by this checkers!! You should be reported and useless managers here should be fired and competent people should be hired to make sure the job gets done properly.

I had a wonderful experience at this Checkers because I could find exactly what I needed to clean my car for a super affordable price! I was greeted by a friendly face at the tills and the service was excellent!

There's a lot of different things from different categories you can buy. The checkers just about have everything. The problem I have is that every time I have asked an employee where to find something, they either can't tell me where or they just point in a general direction.

I can't for SPAR to open in my area to move my business to them. I don't understand that there are 24 chasiers and only 3 are operating. I hate it products on the shelves are not priced. I think management lacks there responsibility for staff is as good as management. This shop deserves a 1 not a 4 as I rate them a year ago. The standard is on downside.

On the 10th of April,Checkers Meander, turned what would have been a really bad experience,into a memorable day. I bought a Microwave oven,and thought it was a great price,as it was the only one of that make,on the shelf,and only one price which I had verified by an employee,but when I came to pay,it was considerably more. When I queried the price,several people on the managerial side,spoke to me,and never showed any animosity towards me,and eventually it was decided I should pay, the lower price,my day was now a memorable one,thank you to all those involved,well done Checkers. Friendly staff and clean place BUT they don't always have the items you are looking for. This has happened literally every time I've done shopping there. The other day there were 8 items I needed that they did not have stock of. And you are are not allowed to leave with the small trollies. So when you leave the store the security rushes after you and asks you to give them trolley, leaving you to carry all your bags if there are not a big trolleys nearby. AND they have soooooo many paypoints that are always closed. The the q's can get long during peak time

According to Google, you close at 7pm. Can someone explain to me why the doors are locked at 17:40?

The shop is beautiful, but the service... Terrible! Was looking for storage bins, but its seems no one knows about these items. At the till every one is slow and not very friendly!!! Little boy behind me was so heartbroken because there was nou more little plants. I can understand that, but the way he was treated, was plain rude!!!! I do like your products, but will think twice going there again!!!!

Modern grocery store in clean mall. Ample parking. Was one of a very few shops open on new year's day.

Poor service and not following the Covid-19 safety rules. 1. I took multiple marked down items, all with prices on them. But when scanning it at the till, NOT ONE of the marked down items (8+ items) scanned correctly. 2. The cashier asked 6 people to call the manager. No manager. I eventually go to the manager office myself, there is no manager. Eventually after forever a manager shows up. Unprofessional with her name tag upside down and when I pointed this out to her, she just ignored me (Natasha). 3. No sanitation after my cards were handled. On a previous visit to the store, I asked 4 employees where the ice was, and not one of them could tell me. 2 searched with me with no success and only the 5th person could point me to the empty fridge.

Nigel from AVI packing department always very friendly & helpful in fetching Twinnings Earl Grey tea from the store room, and thats not his product to pack. Assisted me 3 times in the last few months.

This place is NOT DISABILITY FRIENDLY! My wife is disabled and was overjoyed to find a new small trolley to use for shopping. What a wonderful innovation! HOWEVER.. someone in Head office has decided to not allow these mid sized trolleys to leave the store. The security guard stopped my wife and packed all her groceries into a huge trolley which is allowed into the car park. My wife then had to struggle with one hand to get the monster trolley to her car. Not helpful at all! The question also arises .. why give a mid size trolley which will produce too many bags to carry by hand in the first place? It will have to be put in a large trolley by everyone anyway!! HEAD OFFICE RULES NEVER WORK NOW DO THEY?!!

Went into checkers today to get lunch for my fam which is my Muslim sister visiting me on holiday . I bought a bbq chicken panini at the deli and after driving all the way home and hungry only to discover that it is in fact a bacon and brie panini. This is a huge disappointment and unacceptable as she cannot eat pork but also I cannot drive all the way back for a R20 sandwich . I phoned to talk to the manager and hung on 3 times till my airtime got finished. At the 4th attempt I was told that there is no manager available at the moment and they took my details. Not only for religious reasons but for allergies as well mistakes like these cannot be accepted or should not be accepted when it comes to food. Highly disgusted!!!

I had a bad experience at Checkers hyper on 12 July 2019, my wife and I went for a few items in total about 20 small items including cheese, butter, bread, chips, 2 x 1 lit cooldrinks, a packet of pork sausages and milk when we got to the express tills near the money market a young male cashier was sitting reading the specials pamphlet, as we approached him he told me that it was more than 10 items so he can't help us, we are both nearly 70 years of age. We went to another cashier and after that to the money market and whilst we were standing there he serviced another customer with also clearly more than 10 items, I think I'm finished with Checkers hyper!

Good store, everything you need can be found. The only problem is they will only have 3 pay points open on a busy day and maybe if you are lucky 2 at the express lines on both ends

I love this checkers hyper. I've never been a huge fan of checkers but since moving here to western cape I can honestly say I'm so impressed. Its clean well stocked and staff are very friendly. So helpful as well. Everything is well organized and goods are well placed. I shop here at least 2x a week. And I love the new Chef in a box meals. They so good. And so well priced.

This Checkers is neat, tidyand well organised. Despite the long Christmas queues the staff worked hard and effecient to ensure customers were moving quickly though the tills. The manager must be aknowledged for keeping all tills open to the convenience.

Check your checkers, just down the street. . This is my favorite everyday shopping needs and budget supplies under one roof. Always have exactly what I need. From hygiene to computer needs, all groceries and fresh produce. You make it they got it. They have upgraded a lot of this store recently creating more ways to help fill my needs.
