Great spot to eat fish and chips, whilst watching the whales go by. Fish was good quality and reasonably priced.

My daughter and i drove from Reebok, to go to Ocean Basket located in Hartenbos. When we arrived there, they had loadshedding and informed us that we can only have something to eat, if we chose to have it grilled instead of the usual "fried" versions. We agreed. I believe the manager, took us to a table outside, with a stunning view of the ocean. After a little while a waiter came over to ask us what we would like to drink. He brought us our drinks and took our order. The staff were friendly and respectful. The meal was amazing, as Ocean Basket always does it. I would highly recommend anyone to give Ocean Basket Hartenbos a try...

Takeaways. Omg I have never seen such little amount of food. I mean this is 800 rand and calamari 3 ways of bits. No man OC never at anyone of your restaurants have I received such baby portions!

A fantastic experience. The view is amazing and there is a great atmosphere! The staff were very friendly and professional and the food was fresh, well prepared and delicious! We've visited this Ocean Basket every December for about 4 years now, and we've never been disappointed.

They keep leaving the lemon butter off the meals, we live quite far from the restaurant so it's not possible to drive back. The best I get is sorry and then they do it again. Lemon butter is part of the meal and leaves the food quite dry without it. Don't do take-away from here it costs a fortune and they don't really care.

On our night there was only 3 tables occupied when we were there. We were 6 adults of which 3 of us the food arrived cold and one of us the food was burned on the bottom. I wonder what would have happened if the place was more than half full! I recommend seafood platters, but ours were served cold and had to send it back to warm it up.😡😡😡

Stay away from this restaurant, food is substandard. Not value for money at all. Lemon butter sauce is made with something like yellow paint. No butter at all. Fish is overcooked. Snoek potions was part of the fish, that is normally thrown away as waist- just bones, skin and fins, and they let you pay this worthless junk. Bad, bad experience.....

Worst experience with service from the manager of this store. We are frequently visiting all the OB branches but this one the manager lady makes a toilet smell and look good. The manager is rude and addement not to supply us with food. Rudeness is her lifestyle. The waiters are friendly. I pitty them. Thank goodness for the head office that immediately sorted out the problem.

I love Ocean Basket, but not to impressed with this one. Just liked the view and waiter. We had to wait untill 10:30am and other people were also not impressed. We had an amazing waiter, he was kind, quick and friendly. We ordered the platter for two and the only good things to eat was the calamari and chips. Our shrimp was a bit toasted, hake was dry and the squid was rubbery. The complementary bread was dry and tasted stale and old.

Hmm, I'm a little on the fence about this review because if I have to rate their food 🤔, I can recall that it was satisfactory. The service, although different, I have to look at the positive things that stood out to me, and our waiter was very on top of his game. They were expecting loadshedding, so the waiters were running around trying to get candles lit because once loadshedding started, we were in utter darkness. (That I must say was a bit freaky, even outside walking to your car it was pitch black) but our waiter got all our orders in on time and that was impressive. Comments on the atmosphere, I've always felt that the Ocean Basket in Hartenbos has a very cold atmosphere. Meaning, I don't sense much of an atmosphere. You go, you sit,order, eat, and leave. It's just something that I've always noticed. But at least there's still a restaurant like Ocean Basket in the Mossel Bay/Hartenbos area.

Well I haven’t visited OB in a very long time and don’t think I will ever again! We were welcomed by a friendly waiter who took our drinks order quickly. The restaurant wasn’t that busy and drinks came quickly. She also brought complimentary “bread rolls” if you can call it that, that was noting but a tasteless ball of dough! Really not what I remembered it like! I ordered the “Hake”& calamari combo and the fish was NOT Hake but a horrible tasting fish! Really revolting 🤮 the calamari was okay though. I must say that I can’t believe how tasteless this food was and that I will definitely never step foot inside a Ocean basket ever again.

I orderd the Hake and Calamari combo. The Calamari was good, but the fish was very oily and tasteless. The waitress service was good. Will definitely not be dining here again.

We had an oyster plate, combo platter for one, and the mediterranean saucy prawns. Everything was cooked to perfection and they had nice options for drinks as well. Staff were beyond friendly and the restaurant is very clean with lots of space between tables allowing for a more "private" dining experience compared to other OB's. View was astonishing!

Three of us sat down for a cosy supper after a 13 hour drive, The staff were super friendly and helpful, service was prompt and great value for money.

We walked in for dinner on a busy evening during the holidays and there was a long waiting. The hostesses managed to get us a table in hardly ten minutes.I had the cala mari and rice and the husband had cuppacino with prawn and mussel combo.The guy who attended us was so good in his work,extremely efficient,helpful and kind. Unfortunately they had combined tips so we couldn't leave anything for him. The food arrived quickly and was still so delicious.. All the best guys..see you soon!

Food good, the place feels good but the service can and was super slow, our server severed two other tables after we came in before we had to remind him we had not had our order taken... Role the dice you take your chances here. Not coming back..... Besides the poor service, food was good so at least the chefs were on point. Only critique was the dipping sauce was way too thick..... 4 star is being kind....

What a awe full evening! We arrived at 20:50 ask the reception if the kitchen is still open and she confirmed and said they close at 22:00 ... We got seated and served by Marchelle (waiter). We order our drinks and starters. After a few minutes the waiter ask us to please our order for main course and told us they want to close early. We place our main course order and ask Marchelle politely to serve our starter first. Our food come ALL AT ONCE ...starter and main course I said to Marchelle we ask you not to serve all on one time.. He became very arrogant and told us they want to close .. Doors still open in front of house .. restaurant packed! So he rushed us off,. We had to ask for standard condements,. He didn't came back for another drink order! We Call the manager and he didn't even try to rectify .. After a while the waiter came back to clear the table .. didnt even ask if we would like to order anything else Clearly the waiter just want us out! Meanwhile the kitchen was still fully operational and busy preparing food. We are locals and we support this business through out the year but with this bad attitude and poor service I will never recommend anyone to Ocean Basket Hartenbos!

Great views, slow service. It was rather busy, but one should not compromise on customer service. The food was fresh and delicious

Very disappointing. Loadshedding was on during our visit and we were told they cannot serve chips or grilled food. All fine loadshedding ends at 20h00, we then order a seafood platter with chips but they are not prepared to switch on the fryers to make the chips as they close at 21h00. Mr Owner, we all have businesses and suffer because of Eskom, but make a plan man, its not as if you are selling cheap food from a street corner.

We've been coming to Hartenbos OB for years at the time of the Buff. Service and food has always been great. Yesterday was a big disappointment tp our party 5. Kingklip was mushy and unappetizing. Seemed like it had been frozen for a very long time. 135g sole was mainly bone...a tiny sliver of fish. Waitress was good and apologized. Fish and chips was good.Overall offering was not impressive.

The Lady at the counter/door was not very accommodating, very abrupt.. however the service of my waiters we outstanding.

This is possible The OB in South Africa with the most fantastic ocean views! I'm almost certain that it is possible to throw a stone right into the ocean, if seated outside. Food is great. Actually beter than many other OBs I have visited. Friendly staff, great service - even with a waiting list the length of a tillslip! Thank you for serving with a smile.

Order fish chips and rice with a mint leave soft drink. The fish was so full of oil and tasteless, the rice was under cooked and dry and the chips over cooked. Then the mint dring had bad leaves in please see pictures. Will never visit or recommend Ocean basket ever again.

Food was tasty but cold. We were a large group and all three the platters was cold. Waiter forgot part of the order as they do not write down and try to remember. I will be hesitant before coming back to OB Hartenbos

Absolutely shocking experience. We arrived at OB and we were the only customers in the restaurant. When asking the manager if they could extend the table at seafront view he was hesitant and barely could assist. Our drinks order took forever and we decided to leave before ordering food wondering if we will ever be served food. Never seeing us again.

Very disappointed that I ate here two days ago, had panko prawn cakes to start, famous fish & chips and a baklava cheesecake for desert with a large banana milkshake for drink. I said to the lovely new waitress that I have never eaten a cheesecake with a soggy base like this, and it was clear that nobody was prepared to do anything about it. It was not nice. Starter and main course was good. Funny that when I asked if there was Wi Fi available, the answer was yes, but it’s only for the managers. I didn’t have the heart to mention that customers pay for the staffs wages, and that includes managers. That indicates that there’s no customer service and they only care for themselves is how that translates. Worse still, I have awful diarrhoea and tummy pains since eating there two days ago and I’m hoping that the medication I purchased cures it. A great location, and I for one don’t feel that my custom was welcome or appreciated so I have plenty of other options available that are far more customer focused and I have not experienced a really bad tummy from eating anywhere else. I won’t be rushing back shall I say.

No organisational methods. Waiters bring the wrong food to the tables. Dishes are not taken away waiters walk right past your table. Mangerial staff only check up on selective tables. Poor service. Perhaps its because it was so late in the day. But, to receive such poor service on our first visit to it. Totally unacceptable. First impressions last a life time.

We arrived and were seated. We were ignored for 20 minutes. After calling the manager. Alvin the waiter arrived. He took our order. We then had to call the manger after another 20 minutes to find out where out bread was. This continued all night. No tip that's that.

Best PLATTER FOR ONE I have ever had from the Ocean Basket group. Your head office can be proud! Customer service was excellent and management on point.
