An Unforgettable Encounter with Gentle Giants Visiting the Knysna Elephant Park on September 27th was nothing short of a magical experience. This mesmerizing adventure promptly made its way to the top of our recommended activities list and should be a bucket-list item for anyone visiting the area. Our encounter commenced with feeding the elephants a buffet of fruits and vegetables, a heartwarming experience that instantly connected us to these majestic creatures. The sparkle in their eyes as they reached for the food with their long, dexterous trunks added a sense of enchantment to our visit. The joy only heightened as we proceeded to walk alongside the elephants, capturing the moments in photographs that would allow us to relive this unique experience for years to come. The backdrop of the park, along with the calm, gentle demeanor of these giant yet gentle beings, provided a picturesque setting for photos, making each shot a treasured memory. Our guides were not only well-versed in the behavioral and physiological aspects of the elephants but also ensured a safe and respectful interaction between us and the gentle giants. Despite their enormous size, the African elephants were calm and graceful, and the knowledgeable guides kept us informed and comfortable, ensuring a safe environment throughout our visit. The professionalism and expertise of the guides added a layer of safety that allowed us to immerse fully in the awe-inspiring experience. They educated us on the significant conservation efforts of the park, which further enriched our visit. We wholeheartedly recommend the Knysna Elephant Park to anyone in search of an authentic and memorable wildlife interaction. The opportunity to feed, walk, and take photos with the elephants is something we believe everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime. The memories we created at the Knysna Elephant Park are priceless and will be cherished forever.

I loved my experience at Knysna Elephant Park. The information provided was excellent and there was a wonderful rich history behind the park. The hands on interactions with the elephants were incredible. Definitely buy the bucket of food to feed them as this is well worth the extra cost. They are such lovely, gentle creatures who deserve the very best.

In the Elephant Park you will be accompanied by a ranger. We were able to feed elephants and get very close to them. A total of 40 elephants and a herd of zebra currently live on the site. Unfortunately there are currently no elephant calves. In total you should plan around 1 1/2 hours for the visit.

I would like to give 10 points! An unforgettable experience for us. After we each bought a food bucket with pineapples, zucchini, carrots, etc. for around 2.50 euros, we were able to find out impressive information about the history of the Elephant Park in the reception room. After a short wait, an 8-minute film was shown to us in a small cinema room. We drove out to the elephants in a trailer pulled by a tractor. They immediately came running and after a friendly safety briefing, two of us were each able to feed the elephants. Everything gives a good impression of a very responsible and good treatment of these animals. A guide then led two pairs separately to the elephants eating. We were able to take great photos without the animals being harassed. Touching was not allowed and that seems right to us. But you got up close and personal with them and it was just really beautiful. The zebras could also be seen very closely. It was exciting, interesting and really not expensive for the experience. No time pressure, everything relaxed...

An unforgettable experience. Walking with the gentle giants is the perfect activity to get in touch with these marvelous creatures. The team of Knysna Elephant Park is doing a phenomenal job. We had a great time. Someday we will come back. And we will bring more time to stay a night at the lodge as well. Thanks again. We still have goosebumps.

Elephant Park is situated just outside of Pletternberg bay. The place is worth visiting as you get to experience feeding and walking with the Elephants. You pay R360 per person for a 45mins or an hour engagement with the Elephants. You also get to choose if you want to feed the Elephants with a small bucket of veggies and fruits which costs R45. Awesome experience as you get to feel their trunk while feeding them. You can pay via card or cash and no booking is required. The experience is absolutely amazing.👌 The guides are very nice and get to teach you about the Elephants as you walk with them. I must say the elephants are well groomed making it safe to engage with them. You should have seen how the Elephants ran towards their feeding station when the visitors transport approached. Obviously they know it comes with goodies🍊🍎🍏🍈

What a truly humbling experience. Reminding you how fierce yet fragile nature truly is. Feeding these majestic creatures is such a great feeling. Hearing of their individual life stories is fascinating. Their gentle behavior makes you wonder why anyone would endanger or put these incredible creature in harms way. Truly worth going to see. The guides are awesome and passionate and make you feel safe and give informative information. Walking free with the elephants is truly breath taking … an absolutely unforgettable experience which is highly recommend.

The feeling of a gentle, curious elephant trunk seeking out a treat from the palm of my hand was indescribable. These gentle creatures moved me. My husband and loved our experience with these beautiful, intelligent, character-filled animals. The guides were excellent and I can't recommend this experience more highly. What a treasure. The elephants are the celebrities but the staff and facilities are brilliant. We had an incredible morning, walking with the elephants and then feeding them and watching them munch on branches when the food we brought for them had run out. They are magestic and beautiful. The food at the restaurant was delicious. This was the highlight of our week off adventuring around the incredible garden route

Very welcoming and warm staff. We had great one hour elephant experience with our 2 years old. We could feed and walk with the elephants in a very natural way and interact on their conditions. At the end of the tour there is a nice playground and restaurant and gift shop. All great value for money. Perfect for kids, very clean and tidy.

One of the most fantastic experiences you can have. I would highly encourage staying over a night or two. You can see the elephants coming to eat their branches before bed time and can watch them sleep. They sometimes stay out till late, so patience will pay off when waiting for them to sleep. The food at the cafe is fantastic and fully worth it. The staff are so helpful and attentive to the guests and the guides are amazingly friendly, especially Ndumiso. There is also a variety of other attractions and animal conservations in the area, making for a rich mix of experiences for travellers and tourists.

It's difficult to put the visit into words because the more you think about it, the more unpleasant it becomes. My girlfriend and I decided on the “Meet our Herd Experience” and unfortunately also bought a food bucket with fruit and vegetables. The entrance area is very lovingly designed with the history of the facility. The tour starts with a nice 6 minute video. The guide then takes you to the feeding station in a vehicle. Once there, the elephants come alone or are led there by various guides. After the safety briefing, you can feed your bucket to the three elephants. Place the fruit and vegetables on the flat of your hand and hold your hand towards the elephant, which grabs the respective piece with its trunk. If you hadn't bought a bucket, you would probably have been watching there while you were there. Then we continued taking photos. “Photo, photo” was the motto. The guide was in no way concerned with imparting knowledge, experiences with the animals, everyday life there or anything else. It was just a matter of everyone taking a photo of themselves with the elephant. When Sally got restless, we said that she didn't like us and that we would go to the other elephant that we liked for the rest of the photos. The zebra herd was then called so that we could take photos of the zebras. That was the end of the tour and you were taken back to the entrance. In the end, many questions remain unanswered: Is it good that a few elephants are fed fruit and vegetables by visitors every half hour (15 times a day!)? In the wild there isn't that much fruit and the associated fructose. How do the elephants get peace when visitors are around their home virtually all day long and interact with them? How can this be in the interest of the elephants who are supposed to be protected there? The focus here is probably more on making money. The visit is only worth it for influencers and Instagrammers who really want to have oh-so-great memories for their story and profile. I wouldn't recommend anyone to visit there and I can't understand good reviews with common sense.

What an amazing experience! The staff is super friendly and helpful. Meeting the herd is an amazing experience where you are able to feed the elephants and once that is done they roam the field where the group splits up, pictures are taken and questions can be asked. Definitely an experience worth traveling to.

You get very close to the elephants and can feed them (bucket with food costs 50R). You can also take photos with them. I think that the elephants have it quite well here because they have a lot of space (cannot be compared with a zoo). In addition to elephants, there are also zebras, ducks and geese to admire. It was a nice result.

We went for coffee and cake which was very good. Especially the carrot cake. They have a cute curio shop. We unfortunately couldn't do the elephant feeding etc. due to the price of it. SA citizens could be given a different rate? Otherwise a lovely stop off.

Most amazing experience! It keeps you humble. Magnificent creatures. Loved this experience. The staff are very friendly. Enough parking. Clean bathrooms. They had a special, buy 2x buckets food and get a 3rd for free. You get a tractor ride to the elephants. You feed them and then you get a chance to walk and take photos with them. The group get split up in smaller groups with a guide. Time fly by so fast with these Magnificent creatures. Want to do it every time we go down to Knysna. Animals look great and are not fixed to chains. Love it here!

What an awesome experience! Absolutely loved it! Getting so close to these gentle giants, being able to feed them and walk with them was an experience beyond imagination. The guides were very diligent in their work, very knowledgeable, and were only too happy to answer the many questions we had. They also have a little curio shop where you can get some memorabilia, and a restaurant to👌🏼 All covid protocols in place 💪🏽

Having been on a couple of occasions prior, this visit outshone the others. We did the 3 km experience and what an unbelievable experience it was. We each had our own elephant to walk with alongside a guide ( mine was so knowledgeable and just locely to chat to). We enjoyed a delicious breakfast which was included and went back to feed the elephants. I will treasure this forever. Thank you!

I love elephants and this was one of the best experiences of my life...feeding and walking with the elephants. We also stayed overnight in their accommodation and fortunate enough to pick the Harry room which had both a balcony overlooking the park and an internal window into the elephants sleeping quarters. I was so excited and didn't sleep most of the night watching the elephants. Thank you to the staff at Knysna Elephant Park and Nandi for letting me walk with her.

Currently 5 elephants, but half-hourly mass tourism. It's nice to see elephants and give them a small bucket of food, but you'll have to get through well. The costs should be seen as a donation to the institution rather than as an adequate return. All in all a nice experience.

Absolutely wonderful experience. All staff extremely friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. Gertrude was so welcoming on the front desk. Accommodation is so beautiful. Sleeping amongst the elephants was a fabulous experience. Rooms big and spotless clean. Tea and coffee making facilities in room. Cot available (travelled with our 11 month old). Microwave available in communal area. On site cafe closes at 17:00. You can pre order dinner or drive out to restaurants a very short drive away e.g. Plettenberg Bay 15 min drive. We did the feeding elephant tour which was included with our booking and then paid for the extra walking with elephants tour. Both incredible. Breakfast was included with our booking which included one drink and choice of about 4 different breakfast orders (omelette, cooked, fruit / yogurt / toast). Excellent value experience.

Excellent experience!! We (family of 4) stayed in one of their suites for a couple of nights. We fed the elephants, walked with the elephants and boy what an experience! Kids, big and small couldn’t get enough of the interaction time!! The elephants sleep indoors and we could observe them sleeping. I cannot recommend this sanctuary enough that is professional and friendly!! My daughter wanted to take sally home!!!

A bucket list experience! We were a little nervous, as you hear horror stories about some organisations not caring for the animals the way that they should. That wasn’t the case here. At the beginning you are shown a short video about the history of the sanctuary and some of the incredible work that they do. Then you are taken out with a bucket of fruit and veggies to meet the elephants. It was amazing to be up close with these beautiful animals. Everything was on their terms, which is exactly as it should be. Highly recommend.

The park was very well organized & the staff were not only well presented but also well informed. Berry was super awesome. Such an awesome experience! The tour was so worth it and I think elephants are my new favourite animals. Thanks Kevin for being such an amazing tour guide. You answered all our questions and you taught us so much and the Knysna Elephant Park should be greatful to have you. The Cafe is also really nice... the food and drinks were delicious and reasonably priced. The staff at the Cafe were also friendly and helpful. It was a great experience to experience African giants from close proximity. If you are lucky, you might find a male elephant. That's cherry on the cake. With Female elephant, you can just stand close to them and feed them. With Male elephants, you can get more physically interactive. You need a sunny day, and staff is very friendly.. it is expensive, but once in life time, it's worth it.

We visited Knysna Elephant Park during our honeymoon. We went for the more budget tickets where you feed the elephants and then take some pictures standing next to them. It was a lovely experience. You can buy a bucket of snacks for the elephants for R50 which is definitely worth it. They eat the snacks out of your hand which is very cool. It’s nice to see these animals up close and personal so if you are in the area and have some money to spend, it’s a nice way to see some wildlife, especially if you never have before.

Highly recommend a visit to the Elephant Park if you're in Knysna. The guides are knowledgeable, the elephants are clearly well cared for, and there is ample opportunity to get really close to these incredible animals under supervision, and to feed them by hand. There are also plenty of zebras! (I'd also recommend a visit to the restaurant on site - we had great service and lovely, extremely reasonably-priced food). A great way to spend a morning or an afternoon.

Stayed for one night in the lodge. This was in Harry’s room with views into the elephant house from the bedroom and across the park from the private balcony. Absolutely amazing. Arrived around 15.30 and caught the final meet / feed the elephant session of the day. Up early the next day for a 8am walk with the elephants. The sizeable room was very clean and comfortable and the breakfast choice was perfect. This is an amazing experience and the whole team work hard to make everyone feel welcome. Would recommend this place for a visit or even better a stay.

Getting there was no problem. The reception was extremely friendly and funny. The lady at the reception was playing a game with me, so she told me there was no room left. For the amusement of her and my wife. The two of them blinked at each other. The explanations like where what were clearly understandable. The room is a feast for the eyes. So beautiful. The bed very comfortable. The bathroom you want at home but usually doesn't have. Ha ha. The room we had had a window facing the elephants' night camp. So you could see them coming in and only then did you have to go to the room right next door, like a balcony. From here you had a great view of the nocturnal and rather funny behavior of the gray animals. At four in the afternoon we set off on a vehicle towards the elephants. We were allowed to feed them a variety of fruits from a bucket. A good experience. The guide gained a good reputation with everything you need to know. Unfortunately or fortunately, they haven't had to rescue any new ones for a long time After feeding, we walked back to the house with the grays. Time to think about dinner. Eating in the hotel or in Plett (everything on your own account anyway). Since we didn't have much time to order food, we decided on Plett. Just as well. The breakfast: again, great service. The food was superb, everything you could want for a good breakfast. This is where we continued our journey. We hope you go there and enjoy it as much as we did. Greetings Marco and Karin

I have been here twice before and really enjoyed it. However, this time the Zimbabwean guides are running a scam to elicit more money out of guests. They approach "families " and offer them special "favours"... like getting closer to the elephants for photos, touching the elephants tongue, or getting to meet Sally. It is a well orchestrated scam, and the "supervisor" has to be "distracted" so that your family could experience a special favour. THIS MUST BE STOPPED.

This experience was worth the money. You definitely want to purchase a few buckets of food to feed the elephants. Enjoy the experience and the animals because the staff takes pictures for you (which are great quality ) that you can purchase for a nominal fee after. The guides are very well spoken and knowledgeable. The animals are respected and loved. If you want a once in a lifetime experience to touch and see an elephant up close, look no further!

I was hoping to visit Addo which was really far so was delighted to find KEP by chance when I was forced to abandon my other plans. The accommodation is simple but beautifully decorated and the staff really helpful - from reception, to housekeeping to the team that handle the elephants. I would really recommend paying for the lodge stay where you get an unlimited number of elephant tours if you have the time. Because I drove pretty far and only arrived in the evening, I chose to extend my stay by a second night and made the most of my time with the team in the field. Thank you to Happiness and to Ndyebo for sharing his passion with these gentle giants. Would love to see the Research Center get some sort of education effort going on for underpriveleged youth to meet the elephants and their keepers!

It was the most amazing moment of my life, they are so majestic. They make you feel so small because of their size and strength. If you have not been there before you have to go they are just beautiful 😍🤗

This is one of two elephant parks in and around Plettenberg and the more affordable one. It's in Knysna about 15mins from Plettenberg. Once in the park you will start by feeding the elephants buckets of vegetables, which they love. They amble over with little prompting because they know it's feeding time. You'll then proceed to walk with the elephants following them along a stream as they show general disinterest in you once they've got their snacks. The park also has zebras, that will mostly watch from afar as they graze. Should you be in the mood for a climate change and human settlement talk, the game wardens are more than happy to oblige (just be prepared for an exhaustive talk depending on your questions). The wardens are friendly enthusiastic and the elephants genial. The elephants are rehabilitated and eventually realeased into the wild as a family so if you do form an attachment you might not find them there.....a decade later. This is also a fun place for families, tour groups who want to get up close to elephants. However, note the weather before you go. If it is raining, you will have to track your fancy shoes through marshy land to walk with the elephants and it can get pretty cold so I'd say choose a sunny day to visit.

What a great experiance. Handlers well knowledge and the animals seems healthy and well cared for. Compared to the boat trip we did in Knysna, this was a cheap, informative experiance

You must come here! This is a non-profit spot helping elephants recover and thrive. The experience was beyond. Highly highly recommend. Different pricing for SA residents, SA citizens and other tourists, which is fantastic because experience like this usually are too expensive for locals. This gives everyone a chance to be educated and experience elephant at an affordable way. Well done.

What a great experience . You get to learn about the history of the park and its role in elephant conservation. You get to buy an elephant treats bucket and hand feed these majestic beasts . It's surprising how softly and careful they take the fruits and treats from your hand . Now I truly believe that they have such control over their trunks that they can pick up a coin from the floor .The walking experience was great and the guides are knowledgeable friendly and professional . An overall amazing experience at a reasonal price

An excellent outing for the whole family. Guide (Barry) was excellent in providing information about the elephants. South Africans should take the opportunity to visit this site. Would love to go again.

👍👍 Very good Farmers market. There are a large number of stalls. They sell fruits, vegetables, plants, flowers, meat, jams, sauces, milk, cheese and other milk's products, natural cosmetics, a lot of cooked local food stalls, and others. There are a lot of sitting tables where you can sit, relax, and e...
