Amazing views, fantastic fresh air and quite simple track. But my advice is, that not worth to walk from Mestia, because there is several kilometres uninteresting and dirty road, better is to go with car till bridge, than on foot.

Even though it sometimes doesn’t look like a glacier because of the sand, it is still a beautiful sight! When I arrived a small part of the glacier fell down, giving the awesome blue ice color to the bottom of the glacier. The hike itself to get here is nice as well, first a bit through the forest and then climbing some rocks. I’d definitely take a taxi to take you to the bridge, walking this part is definitely not the most fun to do and you’re not missing any of the views by taking the car. You can get a taxi nowadays for 70gel.

What I liked about this hike is that it’s double in 2,5-3,5 hours and is suitable for people who are not in shape and even have some orthopedic disabilities (like me). I took a driver to get me to the entrance and we set to meet after 4 hours (since I’m slow walker, take a lot of photos and also spent some time picking with the stunning view). The river along the way is impressive and powerful. There are dogs on the way that will gladly accompany you, so if you are a feeder like me, you can bring some snacks :)

Beautiful hike, amazing glacier But do not come too close, since there are rocks that fall all the time, so be careful

Easy hiking trail, starts with crossing a very old bridge across the river, the clip from the movie War Dogs would come to your mind while crossing it “Hey seriously, is this safe ?? 50/50” Lol. The route takes about 3 hours total, walking through a giant forest, along the river, with beautiful massive mountains all around, and ends with reaching the magnificent glacier. Just Wow !!

I do not suggest hiking from Mestia. I had a Kia Rio and was able to drive all the way to the end of the road (past the airport) to the trailhead at the bridge. The road is rough and rocky, but doable even in a small car. As for the hike, the path through the forest is very nice. Afterward the glacier is also very nice. Very easy hike. Just be sure to watch out for falling rocks if you go very close to the glacier.

Very easy hike, absolutely recommended! First you go through a nice forest, super beautiful, then you follow the stream that goes from the glacier. After that you do some stone jumping and then you are done. The glacier itself is just a huge piece of ice and stones, that melts right in front of your eyes. Also we saw a small baby bear on the other side of the stream!

Easy to hike and you can drive with 4x4 inside as well. Bring some beer or wine with you and just enjoy the view there.

A visit to the glacier is a perfect half day trip from Mestia. From Mestia town a 12-14 km drive gets you to the parking area. The road is a little bumpy in patches but doable in a sedan. There is an old rickety wooden bridge across the river that one needs to cross to begin the hike. The hike takes 3- 3.5 hours with plenty of stops for photos. The path is uphill in the start and after that its a walk through the forest, the stream keeps company on one side. Through the trees you get glimpses of the mountains and later you reach the boulder strewn valley. Watch your footing here as you walk/scramble on the boulders to reach the glacier. The glacier is the destination and its a wonderful sight. Do not go too close since small rocks and boulders keep rolling down the glacier in short intervals. There are no cafes after the initial ascent so carry water and snacks. The visit is well worth the effort.

A very manageable half day hike to the picturesque Chalaadi glacier. Starts off at a drawbridge, then through some forests before the rocky walk to a good view of the glacier. Suggest bringing sufficient drinks and some food along the way as there are some nice spots to relax. Be careful of rockfall at the end of the hike.

The glacier is a lot cleaner now than it was even a few months ago. Although it's dusty and sandy for the most part, you can even see turquoise clean ice in a little deepening. The hike to the glacier was quite easy, I only experienced some difficulties when going through a pile of stones. It's better to start the hike in the morning while there are still a few people.

Not a very difficult hike but very rewarding views at the end! Beware of falling rocks when you stand near the glacier. As the ice melts, rocks will tumble down the side and they may hit you.

This glacier is amazing!! You must visit it and the hike to go to it is also beautiful!! You will like it!! My suggestion is that if take taxi 90 gel ask the driver to wait for 3-4 hrs they usually stay for only 2 hrs which difficult to hike through the forest and reach glacier and cone back in 2 hrs!!

The hike to Chalaadi Glacier starts from an old bridge across the river, adding an element of intrigue to this adventure. The route, taking about 3-4 hours, leads you through beautiful forests, past babbling streams, and offers breathtaking views of mountains and cliffs. The glacier itself is imposing in size, but it also poses dangers. There is a constant risk of falling rocks, and the ice can melt. Therefore, it's crucial to exercise caution and refrain from attempting to climb onto the glacier. Safety always comes first. Remember to bring warm clothing as it can get chilly near the glacier. This mountain adventure will reveal the wonders of Georgian nature and leave you with unforgettable memories.

An easy - although long - hike out of Ushguli, you’ll follow a beautiful valley and cold, clear river until you reach the glacier. The mountain views are spectacular and the peace is joyful - especially if, like me, you only end up seeing a few other hikers or horse riders along the way. A perfect way to hike away the day - take your own water and food.

(Translated by Google) Touch the glacier - priceless. Very easy trail from the road to the glacier, every reasonably efficient man will come without a problem. The glacier makes a big impression, especially the water flowing out from under it, transforming into a rapid river. Definitely worth seeing. (Original) Dotknąć lodowiec - bezcenne. (Translated by Google) Attractive and easily accessible place for tourists staying in Mestii.Byłem there twice and I would give five stars if I had not slept this year under the Schara Glacier and was not under the Adishi Glacier, which is in my opinion the number one. The Chalaadi Glacier is dangerous and it is necessary to exercise extreme caution when approaching it. In that year a falling rock, one week before my visit, killed a young Turk, this year the Dutchman. Lodowiec Chalaadi jest niebezpieczny i należy zachować ogromną ostrożność,zbliżając się do niego.W tamtym roku spadający głaz,na tydzień przed moją wizytą zabił młodego Turka,w tym roku Holendra.

Easy hike. You don’t need a guide for this. Lots of people, on the trail and at the glacier, best to start the hike early to avoid crowds. Watch for rockfall at the glacier face; lots of idiot tourists taking photos at the river mouth while rocks are falling around them. You can scramble further back (stay off the glacier though) to see some of the more impressive glaciers in the background mountains.

Very nice walk, not suitable for children younger than 5. There is a part of the way with huge stones and it isn't very easy. Additionally, we choose the wrong way and went up right in the beginning, it took us more than an hour to understand that we took the completely wrong path.... note that the right way is relatively flat, along the river between the mountains

Great 2 hour hike, Make sure you have a good shoes to walk on rocks. Don't get close to the ice, there are rocks falling down.

  • 5/5 Tomasz K. 1 year ago on Google
Very impressive glacier. Recently it is getting smaller so that the front is going up the hill. Because of that stones are falling at the glacier edge. Quite dangerous. Partially covered by dust but underneath perfectly transparent. To get there one have to climb about 1.5h. It is not easy because of stones. Definitely worth to see.

Great easy to moderate hike through forests initially, then you follow the river upstream to where you eventually see the source of the river, the glacier. I would advise not to get too close as it has been known to injure people when rocks fall.

  • 4/5 Ron S. 9 months ago on Google
Nice views. Easy to lose the trail - when in doubt stay close to the river. Longer than it seems. Maybe because the glacier melted away and is farther

(Translated by Google) Amazingly beautiful place. You can get to the glacier from Mestia on foot (if you like to walk). The journey back and forth will take almost the whole day, 16 mind one way. First we go along the road, then through the forest along the river, and now there is a glacier. Rising high can be somewhat dangerous, since the ice under your feet sometimes crunches and there is a risk of falling somewhere, into some kind of cavity. The views are breathtaking. If you are in Mestia, be sure to go to the glacier.

(Translated by Google) I tried to get to the Chalaadi glacier in March 2020, but it did not work, then there was a lot of snow and it was impossible to reach the glacier. Then I maximally reached the place where the road ended and there was no cellular communication. This time she was determined. The car remained near the power plant under construction. Further upcoming tracking. The main part of the road must be walked. Further down the stones. It should be noted that at this place it seems possible to touch the glacier, the ice. Interesting sensations, this is super!

(Translated by Google) The road is simple and pleasant for walking. It takes 2-2.30 hours to get out of the glacier. The size of the glacier changes according to the season. We went to the bottom of the mountain to reach the glacier. We came from the mestia to the beginning of the walking path with our car. If you have the opportunity to do so, there is no point in walking through the construction sites for 2 hours in dust and smoke. We took a taxi from the Mestia Tourist Info. We easily found another couple who wanted to go there. A return ride costs 80 gel per car, with us having like 2.5 hours to get there and back from the bridge. It is not recommended to walk or bike from Mestia due to the ongoing construction work. Thus 4 stars. Track to the base is fairly easy, with some rock climbing at the end. I don't recommend swimming in the pool - when we where there, some guys disturbed the stones on top of the glacier and they started to fall down and barely missed them. The glacier itself is well worth the walk.

Wonderful place with stunning views, however a bit of track maintenance would be really beneficial. Track is sometimes non-obvious and hard to follow in a rock debris areas created by recent avalanches. Probably the bridge in the very beginning of the track is gonna be a real challenge for people with the fear of heights.
