Matadero is a really great place to visit. Very attractive buildings. Nice cinema. Good exhibits..theatre etc. Nice terrace bar though the code to order drinks did not work and they should go back to the old way with someone taking orders. Otherwise a lovely place. Visited the Klimt exhibition.

The history behind this place is fascinating, and the idea of transforming this place into an art center is brilliant. ""Matadero" a real "slighhouse" many years ago is now a beautiful place dedicated to show Artwork in all its forms. This place is pretty big and it has different sections/rooms around it where all the expositions take place, and a lot of them are completely FREE and the ones charging anything, are really affordable. I should mention that the entrance to Matadero is also free. Highly recommended to register online at mataderomadrid.org and reserve your spot so you don't wait in line outside in the heat or cold. The website is in english and spanish. "El Jardin de las Delicias"/ The Garden of Earthly Delights artwork is AMAZING. The Surrealist Links, Cool 3D world is just spectacular, see some pics down below. The best part of this experience is that it was totally Free. Matadero also has good restaurants and a botanical garden. Bikes are available to rent. As a reference Matadero is located within Rio Madrid Park (Parque Rio Madrid) closer to Plaza Rio 2 Shopping Center. This place is a Must! A lot of history and art behind the Matadero walls, enjoy!

A beautiful experience, even just for a stroll. We hadn’t booked tickets to any films or plays, but we visited the library and drunk Tinto de verano at Matadero, and that was one of the best things we did in our trip. Very worthy, no one should leave Madrid without visiting!

Great art expo for all enthusiasts. Amazing video of his Klimpt's work on a 30min loop. The 3D google/show at the end was a lovely final touch to a wonderful experience. The only downside, hence the 4/5 stars is access to public parking, the closest was nearly a km away!

All the exhibitions at the Matadero are always very nice. It’s always an immersion in a new culture with fresh new artists. Matader is one of the stop in Madrid that you always have to check because there’s plenty of exhibition, concerts, movies or shows at the same time and always something happens there.

Free to enter and great place to walk around to explore the cultural centre. We were lucky to come here when they were displaying work from the from architecture graduation show. The area is big and had other art displays too.

very nice place to visit for arts and media, it also has cafes, a cantina and eventually a market happens there. the architecture is awesome, features restored old buildings and rock walls in contrast with new tech and contemporary art.

I had the best exhibition experience in Madrid at Matadero with Apichatpong Weerasethakul exhibition. And it was all for free. If you are even slightly interested in his films do not miss it. And even if you are not interested at all do not miss it. It is poetic and fascinating.

Super fun place to go for a drink or for a snack. The expositions are great and most the time free. They have IPA on draft, happy about that. A wonderful place to stop in after a walk by the river to bask in the oddity of such a large open industrial space so close to the city. Highly recommend and if you have kids it's a great place to take them and let them run around.

Just discovered this place and it’s amazing. The cineteca offers a really beautiful cinema room with iconic movies, including debates and movie cycles. Would 100% recommend and come back.

one of the best places in Madrid to chill and enjoy the time as it passes by. I'm in awe of how well the buildings and structures were maintained and how well they tried to keep them all in tact after all these years. the structures within and around this area are perfect for photoshoot and the likes. also, a stroll around it is very ideal on a nice weather.

A must visit in Madrid! This former abattoir turned cultural meeting space never disappoints. It is also a great location with amazing lighting for Photoshoots!

YES! A great day out for all the family. Plenty to do in a funky urban setting. From free exhibitions, cinema, dining and just chilling out, to hiring bikes for cycling along the river.

Nice place to spend with kids, family, and friends. Sometimes, there are special events like concerts, expos or cinema (during summer). During winter in December, an ice skating rink is installed. But there are always activities during the year.

Closed on Mondays. Awesome space, old abbatoir converted into modern art museum. Love the expansive space!

Was recommended by a friend to visit this place and arrived around 1pm on a Thursday. However, upon arrival, discovered that there was nothing taking place until 4 and 5pm and since I was leaving for the airport soon I couldn’t stay. Seems like a nice cultural place to explore short films, fashion, and other artistic forms of expression. Make sure to check their schedule before making the trip here!

Love the Matadero in Legazpi! I live near and visit frequently. The cinema is great and offers low priced films in their original language. La Catina restaurant is wonderful with lots of seating indoors and outdoors. The other restaurant located inside Matadero is also wonderful and has a lot of seating as well and is very kind friendly.

Absolutely stunning exhibition on Klimt. Fantastic experience and thoroughly enjoyed the full immersive 3D experience. Highly recommended.

  • 5/5 Jasper V. 1 year ago on Google
Awesome place if you like art installations, expo's and general interesting cultural stuffs. It has many halls you can roam for a small price or for free even. The information center can help you get around and discuss current ongoing stuffs + find a flyer to help you find your most interesting stuff. The buildings are also very interesting by itself, being an old slaughter house. Also has a cantina where you can find beers and a nice little patio.
