We took the Gibraltar Cable Car to reach the top of the Rock — and it was absolutely worth it! The ride itself is short (about 6 minutes) but offers amazing views over the city, the port, and the Strait of Gibraltar. The cabins are modern and comfortable, and the service was well-organized. At the top station, there are viewing platforms with breathtaking 360° views — we even saw Africa in the distance! Buying tickets online in advance helped avoid queues. The return trip was smooth and fast. Highly recommend the cable car if you want a quick, scenic, and fun way to reach the top without a long uphill walk.
Dear reader, We've been there today (20th of June, Friday) and I have to say that the cable car it's a total rip-off. We've purchased the up and return ticket and Nature reserve pass which in total was 49£/p.p. 1st they have the option to charge you in euros which is 61€/p.p. I recommend you to opt for paying in £ with your card, the exchange rate is better than what they gave you. 2nd and most important thing - if you are buying a nature reserve pass and you wish to see more than just the sky walk don't buy the return ticket with the cable car because it's a long way to go up again and the walk down the hill is chill(max 1h walk back to the base with sight seeing), a bit steep here and there but not too steep. We are very DISAPPOINTED because the lady who sold us the tickets didn't let us know about this. When we reached the base we went for a refund on our return cable car tickets and the staff, including the manager didn't want to refund us for the return tickets and told us that it's our fault that we didn't thought about this. It was quite a circus to be honest and I wouldn't have expected to be greeted with such an offensive attitude. In the end I took off as I saw there is no chance of getting our money back and the manager called us from our way out, took all of our 4 tickets and gave us the refund for 2 tickets. I recommend walking up the hill if it isn't too hot outside or take a taxi tour. P.S.: there were only a few monkeys in case you expect too see lots of them. For me it was ok as that was not my reason for being there. Take care! A.
Not much to say about the actual cable car, it is what it is but the experience could be improved. We visited in February so jot a busy time and there was still a fairly long queue with about a half hour wait. The prices are a bit confusing, we wanted to get the car to the top and walk down (it's a long walk) but when I asked for a single I was told you can only buy a return for £19. What they didn't say is that if you want to walk down you have to buy a ticket for the nature reserve which costs £25. They did sell a combined ticket for just over £41 which had they told us we would have bought this and saved a couple of ££. The cafe at the top is fairly basic but the views are absolutely fantastic so well worth the visit.
Really good, had a car to myself going up , went about 4pm. Monkeys roaming around the building as well as along the top of the mountain. Booked ticket with a dolphin trip. It had been too windy on original day, so I went a couple.of day later with my ticket provided.
Long wait, even with prepaid tickets you have to wait in the same lane with no advantages. The waiting area extends in front of the toilets and the area is completely without air conditioning. The have two installed air conditioning systems that’s not in use. For 49 £ per person the facilities should have an upgrade. Shameful how some companies just charges higher and higher prices to tourist and gives the bare minimum in return.
Decent ride on the cable car. Booking early wasn’t so necessary. The line with prepaid tickets was long. The purchase tickets line was shorter. Total was $49 via the cable car with round trip including preserve. It was only $19 for up. Interesting that they didn’t check on the way down 😉but they did check on the preserve. It was worth the trip also it is the only thing really to do in Gibraltar. It was fun to do. They have cabs that will drive you for $60 each. Not sure which option is the best. It avoids a 1 hour line wait but not the 2 hours they claim.
Pathetic experience. No parking spots for tourists. There is car park with typical UK massive clamp signs. The parking spots are for residents. Comon. It’s a tourist spot. Make parking for the cars. The transport is crap so who is one suppose to travel here? We ended parking 2km away and them walked with 2 kids on a sunny hot day. Queue was long. Very few people can adjust in the cable car. Took us over 1 hour to get to the cable car. So don’t get deceived by 6min journey they claim. So many parking tickets signs all over. Very narrow roads around. Not visiting again. The cave was amazing hence 2 stars
We took the cable car up at about 3:15 and walked for 4 hours before walking down on foot. We wait 30 minutes for cable car so wasn’t bad. The building doesn’t look well maintained and it was very hot. So removed a star Cable car up and down is worth it for the experience and to get the to top and spend as much time as you want but make sure to go back before it closes. I would recommend going earlier in the day to make most of the time you spend on the rock If you want to visit places like the at Michael’s cove be prepared to do a lot of walking. I would only pay for those taxis if you only want to go to the places they offer and want to do minimal walking like with kids or people who struggle to walk. Their tours are like 1.5 hours but are £50 while a cable car return and access of the nature pass is £49. So depends on your situation. I would say I managed to walk like a good 50% of the rock in 3.5 hours. However on a cruise day the taxi people might be better
