Beautiful park designated as a Dark Sky Park from the International Dark-Sky Association. Our Canon camera did not do justice in capturing the beauty of the Milky Way. Hike in only campsites that are also on the water. Our site was surrounded by wild raspberries!!! Beach and dark sky viewing area accessible to everyone.

Newport State Park is a really dark sky, we didn’t have the opportunity to see the stars because was all cloudy at night with all the head-lights off that was dark… We camp on Site 3 and I truly liked that location, my objective was to take some pictures of the Milkyway but wasn’t possible at that time, the Site have nice rocks by the beach special for a foreground by the Lake, we hope to go back and try again! The sites are for camping with very little commodities, to get to the Site 3 took a walk of one mile from the main parking lot (No. 3) and my family was with me so it took a lot of things to take to the site, family were rookies with the walking and camping by the days we enjoyed the warblers of the place. Here are some pictures of the Site 3. There is a pit toilet (warning they don’t maintain it on regular basis), not potable water on sites at least on number 3 & 4. Place is very quiet! (Not likely with 4 kid’s with you 😛 ) Not shower room in the whole park!

Newport State Park in Wisconsin is situated in Door County’s Peninsula along spectacular on Lake Michigan shoreline, Newport State Park is one of Wisconsin's "Dark Sky" park. Located just 10 miles northeast of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin on the breathtaking Lake Michigan shoreline, the park provides visitors with the opportunity to spend time with nature in the seclusion of a pristine wilderness setting. Thanks to its strict “no-artificial light” policy, the park is one of the top stargazing spots in the country, and has even been certified by the International Dark-Sky Association as “Dark Sky Park,” which is an honor bestowed upon very few parks across the United States.

Gorgeous park! The hike-in campsites are nice and the trails to get to them are well maintained. Most of the campsites are right on the lake, so you get great views of the sky! It is a dark sky park, and when the clouds clear you can see so many stars, including the Milky Way.

Spent the day at Newport State Park Beach...and it did not disappoint! There were no crowds and a large and sandy beach area. The tree line and surrounding area were beautiful and relaxing to be out in and enjoy. This place felt like we had found a hidden gem. There were only a few rocks as you first walk into the water and then smooth sand after that. The water stays shallow for a good distance. It was a very dog friendly beach. They have a separate bathroom and changing area nearby. There are plenty of hiking trails around and picnic tables available. You do have to pay to get into the park ($11 for the day), but there is a nice parking lot (#3) with plenty of spaces and an easy walk to get to the beach.

Great park to visit! We've been to peninsula state park multiple times but we're pleasantly surprised how great this park is too! Great, ez trail hikes for the whole family (10 & 12).

Beautiful, quiet park with some amazing forests, gorgeous views of the water and more stars than I've ever seen in my life.

Such a beautiful park. Love the campsites!! We stayed at site 15. One of us paddled in and the other hiked in.

Awesome park! It was so quiet it was almost scary! I got there a little too late so I didn’t have the opportunity to explore like I wanted to but, I’m excited to visit this park again.

👍👍 Absolutely love this spot. It was a great hike for myself and six year old. There are bathrooms at the start of the trail by parking lot number three. There’s also a small sandy beach available there. The day we were there there was also someone giving an educational tour about trees. There are so m...

👍👍 This is a hidden gem! The beach is great and it’s generally pretty quiet. I feel I am able to get away and hike a beach up here. The shoreline goes for some time. I’m not sure if there is good hiking in the woods like you have in Newport State park but you have a beach walk worth taking and better t...
