Brought my husband in to ER for excruciating muscle spasms in his lower back that caused his entire body to lock up stiff, and just double over to the floor. As a athletic and healthy man, this was shocking, so I knew going to ER was best course of action. When we were given a ā€œcubicle with a curtainā€ in the ER, they said they had no beds, and gave him a chair. Then they disappeared. Meanwhile, heā€™s in writhing pain, and wound up laid across the chair with his neck bent in a awkward position and head resting on the plastic arm rest. No offer to help him be more comfortable, no offer of heating pad, blanket, water, nothing. A radiology person comes to take him for an X-ray. This is when it took a turn for the worst. We kept politely telling them that he couldnā€™t walk, couldnā€™t even lift himself from the chair. We asked for help to get him out of the chair, and they just kept standing there looking at him, saying, if you donā€™t want it thatā€™s fine. Meanwhile, thereā€™s a large male nurse standing there like a lump on a log, offering zero assistance. It was truly shocking! Iā€™m watching my husband struggle to get up, while 3 nurses stood there gawking like they could care less. I finally spoke up, but always calmly, and the nurse that talks to patients like there kindergarteners, snaps at me, saying Iā€™ve already said he canā€™t move, they get it. No, you obviously donā€™t. Heā€™s not a big guy. 5ā€™9 185 pounds. One could have offered him 1 arm on one side, and another on his other side. Itā€™s not that complicated. Or move out of the way and let me. I get the number to the supervisor, and call her. Sheā€™s very professional and kind. She even came down to talk to us live. After that, we were given a new nurse, and viola! Water, heating pads, medicine, blanket, and blood work! Look at that! Then, I hear the nurse talking to another patient about me! She actually called me a jerk. Why? Because I was advocating for my husband? You would do the same thing. If you have no compassion, if youā€™re not a nurturing person, you are in the WRONG profession. Very disappointing. I always support nurses, as my mom retired from being a nurse for 40 years. She was one of the good ones.

Waited 5 hours in a very crowded waiting room, felt sick but was getting ready to leave when a nurse called my name to come back. Sat in a chair in the hallway for another couple of hours when the Doctor came over told me all my tests were normal and to follow up with my primary care doctor. I was about to ask a question but he had already dismissed me and walked away. I was left in shock. This has never happened to me before. Needless to say, I feel like I have been receiving poor service with BJG doctors, including my PCP. I never had this problem with SSM doctors. Maybe Barnes is rated higher but SSM doctors has much better bedside matters.

In the early morning on 10/30/2022, I went to the Emergency Department because I kept having a 103+ fever. Got diagnosed as covid, with high blood pressure and heart rate (150ish). Was given a prescription for Paxlovid. Less than 24 hours later, I'm back in the ER and the Triage nurses recognize me. My throat is swelling, I'm gasping for air, can't swallow and my chest hurts. All signs of an allergic reaction to Paxlovid (well documented too). The ER doctor, an Asian gentleman told me that nothing's wrong and it's just covid, basically calling me a liar right to my face. I've been vaccinated, had Covid twice before, and anaphylaxis sure wasn't a symptom. Now I'm afraid to take anything for fear of being ignored again.

I took my son to emergency room 12/18/22 for numbness in legs and chest pain. The nurse didnā€™t offer to wheel him out upon completion although he was weak. I over heard staff offering this service to other patients. When I asked, she advised I could do it. She was very rude and walked away during conversation. Horrible customer service and experience. I will never return to this hospital.

Jan 21, 22. I understand the need for mask. Im okay with that.. what im not okay with is forcing me to wear YOUR mask. My mother has had a few things done here. And no one has had issues with my cloth mask before. I can not STAND the loops around the ears. That is why my 3 layer mask goes around my heaI? Mine is also a duck bill to make it easier on me. YOURS sit so tight over my nose that it hurts and so tight that when breathing it goes into my nose and mouth. Now the mask the mask is wet... so does it really help? Besides your mask is soo light and too loose compared to mine. Positive point... you have sit for large people.. at least in preop so thank you for that part In the main Waiting area.. not so much.. luckily there was still a bench seat

I had to take my mom to the emergency department last night, and I was so impressed with the care they had given my mom. From the time we walked in, until we left, every single person who took care of my mom, from techs to nurses, doctors, were exceptional. Damon, who my mom had see the most, was very attentive to her needs, and just a great caring person. It was the ā€œbestā€ experience that weā€™ve had in any hospital weā€™ve been to, in a very long time. Thank you for doing what you do. Itā€™s such a demanding and most the time stressful job, and I praise you all for what you do.

I would never recommend this hospital to anyone! My late husband was taken there by ambulance after a fall. He had stage lV cancer and was tremendous pain, at home he was taking oxycodone for his pain yet the hospital was only giving him tylenol. I had to actually get upset before anyone would listen to me. I ended up staying at the hospital with my husband for six days due to their lack of care. He couldn't move his arms or legs due to the fall, they said he wasn't eating. No kidding they would put his food in front of him and walk out, he couldn't feed himself. There were two nurses that were doing their job the rest of the staff needs to find a new career

Came in on a domestic situation, they were not understanding or comforting at all, they claim they donā€™t have social workers. After telling the doctor several times that my back was in excruciating pain and I needed an X-ray because of injury to back, he only ordered a vision test, and a CT scan for my head. None of them listened to me at all. Nurse didnā€™t even check on me.

I would not recommend this ER to anyone! Understaffed and condescending nurses. They let me sit in the waiting room in excruciating pain from a sprained hand with broken fingers. Didnā€™t give me anything for the pain for over three hours. Took six hours to get a splint. I sat in the hallway the whole time. When we asked various nurses about leaving, they were very patronizing and kept saying there was only one doctor. All I wanted was the damn splint so we could leave! We were hungry and I was in pain, and we had a child at home. They need to HIRE MORE DOCTORS AND/OR NURSE PRACTITIONERS!!!! Stay away from this ER. GO TO URGENT CARE!!!

My entire experience with this hospital was positive. I was directed where I needed to go by friendly and helpful people, my wait was very close to what I was told it would be and when it was my turn I was handled very expeditiously and professionally. I was never talked down to or made to feel that my circumstances were not important. Everyone was respectful, kind, and helpful. I would return to this hospital again with confidence. My surgeon was Dr. Ryan Fields. He was amazing. I cannot say enough good things about his demeanor and skills.

If I could give negative stars I would. Wasted 3 weeks of my life and I will be lucky to be back to somewhat normal in 3 months. Do not go here! Went in to er for a breathing treatment and 8 days later was released, thank god&within less than 12 hours of being discharged&even going back there bc I was super sick again-er said I was ok yet, knew I wasnā€™t and my fever had gone up, called Mercys dr exchange and was told there was no way my oxygen saturation could be 100 with what was going on. Took it with a home pulse o meter, I was at 85, had my neighbor try to make sure it wasnā€™t broken, she was at 99. Went to Mercy (where I usually go but thinking I was just originally having an asthma attack went here) and between lack of staffing, hours long wait for meds, and condescending drs dismissing my questions and concerns&lack of transparency for what was wrong- they screwed up,I could have died. I had asked if they were able to provide the right care since it seemed they were over their head and they insisted a transfer wasnā€™t necessary. I could go on and on. At a minimum the state needs to investigate the patient neglect and im confident that they will have tons of malpractice suits. After their er saying I was fine, within 2 hours, i was admitted to Mercy. They had to give me yet another transfusion in the er bc their icu was full. And what do you know, after I went to mercy- I couldnā€™t access my chart and my records changed. Mistakes happen but admit them&admit when you canā€™t provide the level of care for a patient. I was bleeding out after a procedure and told that was normal. Oh and they starve you. The video surveillance in rooms is an invasion of privacy other hospitals donā€™t participate in. They didnā€™t even draw labs properly. This is an urgent care not an er and should never keep critical patients! I was even told, despite there being no diagnostics suggesting this- it was likely I had a rare blood disorder&c died and cried thinking I was dying. I was admitted to Mercys ICU. They have no idea what theyā€™re doing, or how to properly perform simple lab work and damn near killed me!

Saw Dr. Sockanathan and have been met with numerous problems. She ignored my throat problems as well as my prescription refills and now they are still trying to bill me for it while I have had to go see a specialist because of her ineptitude. Now because of the added fees of the messed up scripts I will be out even more money. Her office has taken over weeks to respond to messages through my chart online. I donā€™t know why you want to refuse to give me my life saving asthma medication. Stay away from her. To add their office manager Kerri P. is a horrible human who wanted to torture a patient by ignoring their messages and calls for help. She only changed her actions once she got in trouble. Truly a sick woman who feeds off the suffering of others.

I had a scheduled surgery this week and my experience was first class from start to finish. Everyone from the front desk when I arrived, to the admitting staff in the Procedure department (Oliver), to the surgery prep staff (nurse Lori was fantastic, the anesthesiologists, Bill my operating room nurse) and of course, Dr. Figenshau who performed the surgery. I had arrived with a case of nerves and went into surgery feeling confident that I was in capable, professional, caring hands. Once I was taken to my room, I had two wonderful nurses, Tracy and Marie. Everyone was so friendly, kind, compassionate, reassuring, caring and professional in their care of me. I cannot adequately express my heartfelt appreciation and thanks for their exceptional care and demeanor.

I went to get my back and knee checked out after a car accident. The registration lady didnā€™t greet me. I stood there and I watched her walk around doing other things and then she went and sat down and continued to ignore me. So I went over to her and said hello and she finally greeted me. My friend was with me so she sat down in the waiting area while I started registration. Once I was finished I sat with her and initially I didnā€™t notice the ice pack on the floor near us covered in blood which was disgusting. Once I finally got to a room I was disgusted again. There was dirt and small pieces of trash on the floor and a stain on the sheet of the hospital bed so I sat in the chair because I refused to sit on that bed with a stained sheet. Hospitals are supposed to be clean and sanitized and this one was not. I will never visit this hospital.

Absolutely disregarded my rights as a patient called patient relations multiple times with no response. The worst bedside manner I have experienced. As a 35 year healthcare worker I have never seen any patient treated the way they treated me. Iā€™ve called since October with no response at all. These people have no business being in healthcare.

I had a TERRIBLE experience in the emergency room here at Barnes West. From the time I came to the time I left. Triage nurse was very rude, & didnā€™t show any empathy or compassion. I waited in the emergency room for six hours before being seen which isnā€™t a problem, I know that wait times can be a bit crazy in every emergency room. When I finally made it back to be seen, I had to sit in the hallway behind a curtain because they stated they didnā€™t have any rooms available, no biggie . I was tended two by two different nurses & a physician. Five minutes after being swabbed for Covid 19 a nurse by the name of Sharon, whispered to the physician Evelyn asking if sheā€™d seen my positive Covid test. Evelyn then came to me stating that Covid test was positive which was very frightening seeing as though I have other underlying sickness that can be seriously triggered if I had the virus. Approximately ten minutes after hearing the news I heard two nurses Sharon & Hannah discussing the fact that they gave me a FALSE positive result. Hannahā€™s response once they confirmed that the results werenā€™t positive was ā€œoh well you already told her the results were positive so weā€™re going to roll with thatā€ followed by giggling. The charge nurse was very rude & one sided. She stated that she had spoke with her nurses regarding this matter & that it was a slight misunderstanding. I explained to the charge nurse Elise, that the misreading wasnā€™t a problem the problem was the reckless careless conversation that followed once they realized that they made a mistake. I will never in my life attend this emergency room again & I donā€™t recommend it to anyone. I hope this helps someone. If can avoid this place, PLEASE DO.

My girlfriend had a great plastic surgery experience on her nose with Dr. Chi. Part of that experience was due to his nurse Jenny, who assisted during the surgery. Laurel said she was so caring and supportive throughout the procedure and afterward.

When you come in complaining of chest pains and elevated chest pains, most facilities will tend to you right away, so no issues there. However I've been here over 12 hours now waiting to be transferred to another hospital that has a bed because there's no real cardio help her even though the website for this facility states otherwise. I only came here because my PCP is in the BJC network.

My son came into the emergency room with chest pains and vomiting. Said symptoms were the same as 4 months earlier when he had a heart attack and 2 stints done at SLU. All they could do was blood test because they are not equipped for cardiac testing. I asked for him to be moved to Mercy, just a few miles away, and they said they wanted to keep him in the BJC system. MO Bap is also a couple of miles away which would have been fine. They said they were looking for a room and finally 30 hours later he was taken to Big Barnes by ambulance where he was told he was stable and because it was a Friday night they couldn't do any testing on the week end. He has insurance but why should he be expected to pay for all this time and ambulance and spend the week end for a test to be done on Monday? I can't believe an emergency room at Barnes West Co is not equipted to handle a heart attack. You should tell people, don't bother coming here if you are having chest pains, save yourself time and money and go somewhere else. Very disappointed in Barnes. It looks like a state of the art hospital but don't be fooled, it only treats certain conditions, you have to figure out which ones for yourself.

I called to make a doctor's appointment. After I was asked a lot of questions, I'm finally transferred to the actual location, which is who I thought I was already talking to. After trying to set the appointment the person asks for my insurance info. After providing it she quickly tells me "we don't take that insurance, so we can't make the appointment." This struck me as odd, especially for a major medical center for 2 reasons. First, I'm pretty sure I could've paid out of pocket for this, but wasn't given that option. Second, if the appointment was dependent on whether they take my insurance or not, that should be one of the first questions asked by the first person I talked to. The extended phone call was a waste of time, and now I've given personal medical information to a facility I'm not a patient at.

The worst ER that I have ever been. Trust all the one stars in this hospital review is very accurate. The incompetence of the two nurses I met at a time that I needed care on 10/16. The registration process for someone coming in with Chest pain, heart rate in the 140ish and clearly in distress. They were very condescending and dismissive of the reason I was there at 12:30 am. The worst experience ever. I could not get out of their fast enough to get to MOBAP as that was our initial destination. But we stopped here since it was closer and I was getting more uncomfortable with my heart racing and all symptoms of a stroke. Thank God that was not the case when I made it to MOBAP. I told these nurses I have a history of PEā€™s as well as the registration person that looked like he should retire sooner than later. Horrible customer service and no urgency in seeing someone distressed. None of them showed any empathy nor concern. I also told them I took metoprolol before coming there and they were very passive. Then had the nerve to attempt to wheel me to the waiting room. Which there was three people sitting in there. THE WORSE PLACE EVER!! If you value your life carry on to MOBAP or Mercy. These kids playing nurses are a disgrace.

Went to the ER yesterday for dehydration and malnutrition. Extremely dizzy, weak and unable to walk. IV and labs were started in triage but despite being in a wheelchair WITH a IV bag holder I was not given any IV fluids I desperately needed while waiting over four plus hours with no near end in site to be seen. I signed myself out to go to an iv therapy place but this was avoidable. I donā€™t recommend going here

The ER is NOT an ER. They do not have cardiology, pulmonology neurosurgery so unless u have an orthopedic, plastic surgery or abdominal injury DO NOT go here. Also, the misspelling of my husband's name was about the quality of his care. 25 yrs as a ICU RN and 10 of those as a clinical admin this 7 he'd ER is NOT the place to go. A staff member said this isnt an ER we habe to transfer most evetything. The ER dr refused to see my husband which the PA Collaborative practice act allows a patient to ask to see the collaborating physician if asked. The PA was a HOT mess and I would bet he's NEW as he gave me a feeling that he didn't know what he was doing. I hope he knows his PA practice act in MO because I will be making a complaint against his license. Richard Allen Hazlett PA. The RNs were fantastic especially Sadie and Jennifer. The medical care sucked. Do not go here unless it's a beauty emergency. Go to MO Bap u would need to be transferred if necessary anyway.

Today, I had my colonoscopy here at BJC West. The male receptionist was fantastic with a terrific personality. He directed us where to go and was engaging with all incoming patients and visitors alike. When we got to the LL, Procedure area, we quickly got in and my prep for procedure started. Everyone I encountered was kind and professional, while still taking care of their patients. I also want to mention that my husband and I both see Dr Elizabeth Huebner, and we find her bedside manner to be compassionate and professional, and we love having her take care of us. I know I am missing some nurses and techs, but the ones I remember are Cara, Kelly, Karen and LaTasha. I wish I could remember all the names, but anesthesia does mess with me. They were so professional, so kind and really loved their jobs. I could tell, as I work in a doctor's office, and I know how it goes. Oh, and Dr Cohen is the man who convinced me to take better care of myself. Stern, but in a loving way, he convinced me to see a cardiologist and have a sleep study. Thanks to you all, and thank you for the excellent care you provide, not just today, but all the time. I will be back in 5 years. Thank you again.

Go to ANY other hospital not owned by BJC or Washington University. This place is an absolute abomination to healthcare, the level of stupidity and incompetence knows no bounds. They commit Medicaid fraud and charge absorbent amounts when they don't actually do anything. Its seriously a complete joke and they are stealing no telling what in tax payer money. My partner has been told by his Barnes doctors to go to the ER 4 different times and they send him home without any care or treatment. They have zero record of any of this between them, it's extremely disorganized. This place needs to be shut down and investigated before they cause further abuse and neglect to their patients. Not sure if they are using outdated, fake, paid for, or exaggerated ratings that make them appear better than others in the area, our experience has been quite the opposite. I am having them investigated and doing everything in my power to deter people from going to anything related to this hospital, I will not rest until they either are held accountable or shut down. If anyone else has had issues I'd love to connect and we can bring them down together!

Had a procedure with anesthetic there. The recovery staff rushed me out of the recovery room. She kept waking me and telling me to get dressed. Obviously I am still sedated as I could barely sit up. They rushed me by wheelchair to my ride waiting at the door, I couldn't stand without holding the car and almost fell over. I had to tell my ride to pull over so I could fully come out of sedation as the movement was making me sick. Very dangerous to release someone still under anesthetic.

They are nice enough but the lady i seen today was not helpful and doesnt know how to speak to patients with mental disabilities. Last time i was at the e.r. all the nurses did was laugh at me because they thought i was making up the pain i was in. They even went as far as to laugh at a person in the room next to me who had a serious accident.

My son recently had surgery at the new Barnes Jewish West Hospital & stayed for 3 days & 2 nights. I must say the entire experience was surprisingly pleasant. Everyone from the staff, nurses, doctors, and physical therapists where incredibly professional top notch & lovely! The hospital is pristine & state of the art. The rooms are huge & even have IPads for the patientā€™s to order meals, watch TV or movies & access MyChart. If you have to select a hospital in the St. Louis area, I highly recommend!

Yesterday I had an MRI of my Liver done at the Radiology Department. I was very nervous about getting my MRI done because I am very claustrophobic. I tried a couple of weeks ago to do the closed MRI and was not able to so this was my last shot. I took an anxiety medication before I went but was still having issues being able to complete the open MRI. Roni was the tech that helped me and she was amazing. She was very attentive, understanding, and went above and beyond to make sure that I was comfortable and gave me the courage to get through it. If it wasn't for her I would not have been able to finish the test. Thank you again, Roni!!!
