I have been staying at the Lantern Inn since the mid 1980’s. This was our first stay with the current owners, Nick and Laura. The Lantern Inn has always been clean, affordable, and staffed by friendly folks you look forward to seeing again. The current owners have done a fantastic job continuing that tradition, and you can see that they have been pouring their hearts and souls into updating and improving the property. The property and rooms have been freshly renovated, are extremely clean, are now much more aesthetically pleasing (updated), and the beds are great. The owners are incredibly friendly, accessible, and attentive to your comfort during your stay. This was my family’s first stay with our young kids, and they especially enjoyed the clean pool and paying frequent visits to the friendliest little pup you will ever meet, Tripp. My kids fell in love with the charm of the place the way I did almost 40 years ago, and we look forward to staying at the Lantern Inn each chance we get in the future.

What a great place to stay! I absolutely recommend this super charming inn. We came for 3 nights and the pool was a huge hit with the kids. If you’re looking for something cozy with a great vibe, this is the place. Definitely not the big chain kind of place. Here guests meet and chat outside on benches, by the pool or the fire pit/ picnic tables. Room was clean, beds were comfortable and we had all the amenities we needed. Groceries and adult beverages available right across the street and it’s a quick walk to restaurants and shops. Thanks for making this a great trip!

Such a nice, locally owned motel which is more like a mini resort! Great location with it being across the street from the grocery store and walking distance to downtown Main Street. A nice pool and picnic table area as well. Owners are very friendly and accommodating! Rooms are super clean! We will definitely stay again!

This was a great family run place with owners that went above and beyond with their services and hospitality to accommodate our large biker group. Rooms were clean, comfortable and well appointed with a great pool and outside facilities to relax in after a hard day of riding. Groceries and liquor store right across the street. If you're traveling the black hills on a bike (or anything with wheels) would definitely recommend staying here!

Perfect place to stay while in the Black Hills. Family owned and operated by Nick and Laura who have worked hard refurbishing all the rooms. The rooms are very comfortable and very clean. Heated pool. We liked it so much we came back for another stay.

We spent 4 nights at the Lantern Inn in July 2023, and we could not have been happier. The rooms and grounds were wonderfully maintained, the owners are extremely responsive and friendly, and the location is perfect. It's especially great for families with children; the longer we stayed, the more "at home" we felt. We will absolutely be staying here every time we visit the Black Hills.

A great family run motel. Newly updated bathrooms and redecorated bedrooms. The owners/staff were very friendly and helpful. It's quiet, and just off the main drag. It's conveniently located to Mt. Rushmore and other attractions. There's a great little pool, toys provided for the kids!

The night before and the night of our wedding my Bride and I stayed at the Lantern Inn for a quiet get away. Prior to our arrival the owner's Nick and Laura found out it was our wedding. When we arrived to our room, we found a pristine room, bottle of wine, flowers, and a congratulations card. The night before our wedding Nick was so kind and generous. He brought out a fire pit, set up a bunch of chairs, and started a fire for my soon-to-be wife, and our entire family. He truly made the night special. The location is in the center of the black hills. You can't ask for a better location, or a more beautiful place to stay. The rooms were quiet, clean, newly updated, and secure. I've honestly never had a better experience, and I can't thank Nick and Laura enough for making this such a wonderful memory for us.

Great motel. Very clean and spacious room. We stayed one night in one room then liked it so much we asked to stay another. We did have to change rooms but we were fine with that. Nice location and town with lots to do in the area.

The staff were very accommodating and very friendly. The room was impeccably clean and very comfortable. Good water pressure in the shower. A little expensive but given the location it was fairly reasonable. Nice that there was a grocery right across the street. Will stay here again!
