The family that owns the restaurant is very friendly. The food is delicious and is served for very reasonable prices. Also the ambiance and location of the restaurant is very nice. I can only give compliments. I recommend to visit this place for a bite when you’re in the area of Gjirokastër.

What a beautiful courtyard to stop off for a coffee and enjoy the ambience! The freddo Expresso is devine and the laid back lounge music is just perfect 👌 There are cute tortoises here too, we spotted three 🐢

We waited for nearly half an hour for our fresh Orange juice and another about 20 min to be told the main dish we ordered was out. Then we were recommended two alternatives so chose one of those. Within a min the other staff came and told us the alternative was also run out. There were no new customers came after we chose the alternative dish they recommended so apparently they don't communicate among them. The food we got eventually was not that special worth waiting for over an hour. Therefore only three stars in total. I think I am very kind.

Decent food, can't tell it apart from Greek cuisine honestly. Prices a bit high, but average for the old town. Lamb was very tender and moist.

One of the best restaurants we had during our Albania roundtrip. We ate traditional moussaka (better then in greece) and Quifi (albanian rice balls). Nice terasse, cheap prices, great location. Totally recommended!

Let me start with this. I have contacted the restaurant one day prior to our visit to make the reservation and staff sounded very polite an assured me they would reserve that best avaliable table to have a romantic dinner. When we came the next day to have our diner there was no table reserved for us but luckily we came 10 min before time we were supposed to and at least got a table otherwise we would have to wait since the restaurant got full. The staff was slow and on time a bit arrogant. After 40min wait we managed to order our food and drinks and then waited for it for an FULL HOUR. To top it off ALL OF THE FOOD except Moussaka (which was burnt warm and also tasteless) was COLD and tasteless. We have been traveling Albania for 18 days and ate at numerous restaurants and they were really good all of them but Taverna Kuka was a sole black spot on Albanian food experience. I recommend doing a hard pass on this restaurant. You can also see the picture of the food we ordered and it looks as it tastes.

We didn’t know what to expect when we read the reviews: well we had a great experience there. The Albanian specialities were delicious. Try the lamb casserole and moussaka both tasty and their local wine was amazing! I wouldn’t recommend the desserts but we enjoyed very much the mains.

Everything was delicious, reasonably priced for a touristy place. $24 for two with wine and a huge portion of lamb

Nice variety of dishes. The food was good. The staff was very kind and the view was beautiful. They also have cute Greek tortoises with their own houses in the front garden.

A place with a beautiful view, where you will find delicious traditional dishes at good prices. Fast service and friendly waiters. I recommend this place.

Cozy place to eat at. Looks nice and has great food. Veal fillet was superb and carbonara tasted really good, even with all the cream in it (not the real carbonara recipe). All in all tasty and hit the spot after a day of sightseeing and hot weather. 100% recommend. Also try the stuffed peppers, they are also delicious.

This is the only restaurant we came twice during our 3 nights here. Because I found something really tasty for me ( real vegetables not salads). It’s Beans ( cooked beans and potatoes) and wild cabbage ( actually like wild spinach, it’s greens) , and BBQ chicken wings( won’t be wrong) I ordered same things for myself twice:). Good environment and location and friendly staffs. If you have a Chinese stomach you can come to Oder the one I ordered rather than other food.

Went to this place after seeing the ratings but was highly disappointed. The chicken dish was too salty and overcooked to a point where it was rubbery and couldn’t be swallowed. The bruschetta was decent. The place however looks nice with a cozy interior.

Great view over the mountains. You can try various traditional dishes. Sometimes you have to wait some time for food because place is full of customers.

Located in an old town, Taverna Kuka offers excellent food in a charming setting with character (and very cute kittens). I highly recommend the meatballs (Qofte).

The worst place we visited in Albania, unfortunately. We had a mousaka and rice balls, the mousaka was alright, even though nothing special, the problem was I found some kind of LARVA on the plate with my riceballs. When I told the waiter, there was no reaction, no apology. I would expect a free dessert as an apology or something of the sort. Here, it seemed like it's a normal thing that happens all the time. And it was one of the more expensive restaurants we ate in. All in all, very bad experience.

Not recommended. Dinner was ok, but small portions, not very tasty, and we got not exactly what we ordered. The wine caused headaches although we did not drink much.

This was the worst service I have received in Albania. I normally do not write reviews if I’m not happy however I have been so amazed by the great service in Albania to receive this type of service was a shock. The waiter was to busy chatting up a couple of young women to bother even remembering my desert. When I stood up to leave and told him I wanted to go after paying and waiting for my desert to take away his response was you can go whenever you want. Then he remembered by desert. Surely this kind of service cannot be good for business I will definitely not be back and if anyone asks where to eat I can happily tell them where not to

One salad was swimming in olive oil and the other one in honey. Also the chicken with mushroom cream feels like a pasta sauce but then with no pasta or fries. Staff is slow and did not have us change back. Do not recommend!

Tasty food, nice ambiance. A bit more training for the staff would make this place perfect. And having to get up and pay at a bar was something new to me and absolutely unnecessary.

Kuka is a lovely place in Gjirokaster with really good food!! We first arrived at 6 and they told us we had to wait till 7 for the kitchen to open. Luckily we just got some drinks there and waited for an hour. This wasn't a problem at all because it is really nicely located with a lovely view. The food was the best we had in Albania so far and I would recommend it to everyone!

I can not thank Taverna Kuka enough for providing an exceptional atmosphere and delectable food for our wedding celebration all the way from Canada. They kept our glasses filled at all times and our plates bountiful. Every waiter acted with the utmost professionalism and treated our family so well. Thank you so much and we can't wait to visit you next year and many to come!

Very nice moment in this beautiful taverna with honest good affordable food and on the top out of the touristic streets ...

Decent views, enjoyed the white wine, best to get a bottle or carafe, and wild cabbage was amazing. Entree’s were reheated and cold on bottom, staff said it had been refrigerated and were annoyed to have do it again. Service was disinterested.

Don't consider the negative reviews. This place has the best food in Gjirokaster, and it's clearly a popular spot with local young people. Wait staff has a bit less English than some other spots, but very friendly and accommodating. They went out and got us a bottle of wine they didn't have in stock and charged us only the menu price. Highly recommend.
