LOCATION AND THE HOUSE: Very good location - 5min walk to the main attractions of the city (Castle, Historic private houses, Old Bazar, Restaurants). Very authentic house. Million-dollar panorama from the balcony. Very quiet during night-time, except Muslim call to prayer at 5AM (which is - in itself - an attraction to behold and does not last that long). PERSONNEL: Extremely impressed with the young man, who worked at the reception (Irvin). A student, who speaks/writes multiple languages fluently and is a local guide. He has written - by hand - detailed suggestions (with instructions) about the places to visit, foods to try and much more (3 pages by hand). Knowledgeable in about any subject we asked. Breakfast was served by a middle-aged woman who did not speak English, but was otherwise very pleasant and professional. No trouble ordering the foods we wanted and no problem in getting an iron to iron the clothes. OTHER: Tasty breakfast (not extraordinary, but really good). A place to park right next to the entrance. NICE DETAIL: A few days after check-out we were driving to Tirana from the seashore and decided to stop by Gjirokaster to have lunch. Did not have a place to park. Asked the personnel if we could park at the hotel and they kindly agreed, free of charge.

Lovely hotel, with traditional decoration and traditional breakfast made right in front of you ! Great staff and comfortable rooms, bathroom was modern and clean. The location is perfect: five minutes away from the centre and calm neighbourhood. Would definitely come back !

On our 2-Week trip in Albania, this was our favourite hotel. Beautiful rooms, looking like they were recently renovated but with nice touch of traditional furniture. Stunning views. We got a warm welcome from the very attentive and helpful staff.

A beautiful place to stay close enough to the old town but yet far enough to be able to enjoy the calm. The view is incredible and the staff attentive and friendly. Tasty breakfast too! You can buy drinks on site and enjoy it from the Terrasse or the garden. I recommend this place without hesitation.

Traditional hotel built like a big family house with modern guest rooms. Every floor living room is decorated with traditional carpets, chests and other knick knacks. The rooms have carved ceilings. The breakfast is a big and plentiful.

A little paradise in the old town! The hotel is located at a quiet street without any noise from the nightlife, still in the centre though. Ervin or Evangelos (in Greek) is a lovely host, he showed us all available rooms to choose from, he made a list only for us according to what we wanted, and has a friendly and very sweet way of taking care of us. You must stay for breakfast in the morning, you’ll feel like a king&queen! The rooms were clean and romantic, the bathroom big and modern. The overall architecture is very original, with wood and rocks as a main element. I highly recommend it.

The Hotel Kalemi is located at one of the highest spots in Gjirokastra and offers one astonishing view from the balcony. The host was very kind and spoke English very well. Our room on the second floor offered enough space for two people and one of the biggest bathroom we've seen so far in Albanian hotels as well as a nice view at the castle and the mountains. The extensive breakfast can be enjoyed ether inside, at the garden or the balcony. We went for the latter and had which was an amazing experience. Since the town is, due to the steep cobblestone streets, nothing for inexperienced drivers, we were happy to park our car in one of the free parking spots right in front of the hotel. We would definitely recommend this place for tourists of all kind due to the close distance to the castle and the charming old town.

They saved us. They are VERY well located, close to the center, they accept card, the breakfast was amazing, Arber is very kind and the family gave us a very good experience! I highly recommend it!

Outstanding hotel with outstanding service. Book early and ask for room 6 with (again) outstanding views. Excellent breakfast and if you're lucky you'll have breakfast on the balcony overlooking those (outstanding) views. The Kalemi is close to all the attractions. May be a little hard to find at first but just Google a map. It's the best hotel and best value in Gjrokastra. Can't wait to stay there again (and again).
