Hillhead Bookclub is a nice pub with tasty cocktails but don't expect the menu to be very cheap. The place is very warm and cozy. They have arcade games, table tennis etc. which makes it a good place to come with friends, if you are looking for a bit more than drinking/eating. They do have bit of a problem with table service. They take quite long to go around tables and take orders but I give that to lack of staff and restrictions. Apart from that very nice place and nice cocktails, will visit again.

Clearly and without a doubt 5🌟s 🤩🙌 stunning location indoors and super good food and service. It has all you need and also the beer 🍺 I had was amazing. Fruity and just a bit bitter - for me the perfect mix after a long day on the motorcycle. The cauliflower was brilliant 😍👍 sweet and spicy and just the right amount- thanks for giving us a great time folks 🥳

This is a lovely place for food and drink, done up with shabby and quirky styling, despite being owned by G1 Group. There’s a large outdoor seating area and inside there are lots of nooks and places to sit. The menu has a great selection, especially for vegans and vegetarians. The drinks selection is decent - some of the larger cocktails come in gramophones, as an Instagram-worthy gimmick. The atmosphere inside is great - a good noise level but booths mean you can still have a decent conversation. The service was really good - timely, friendly and attentive. The only negative is that we had tried to call to book and had left 2 voicemails but with no response. We’re lucky there was a booth available for us on the night. I know things are busy but if you don’t respond to messages then you’ll be missing out on custom!

I had the non-alcoholic mojito here and it was great! Cost about £5 or so (plus service charge) It's a place with lots of books and a very interesting interior. But very noisy ......

Its a lovely wee place. Even the smoking area looks pretty and cosy. So much to do as well, arcade games, board games, books, ping pong, etc. Really friendly staff too

Awesome atmosphere, lots of stalls which we bought items from for a fair price. Very happy, will come again. They were also very friendly to Chessie (my golden retriever).

Absolutely loved this bar, we were planning on doing a bar crawl, this was our 2nd stop and turned into our last stop, stayed the whole night because we didn't want to leave. Great staff, and the vibe was just so friendly and fun. Amazing night.

Brilliant decor, had to ask what the building was before. You would never have guessed it was a cinema. You could happily buy a book from Waterstones across the road and lose yourself in a novel and a pint here .

Great bar/restaurant, really friendly staff who were attentive and the service was excellent. Very reasonably priced food and drink. I also took a pic of the Vectrex I noticed, a peace of home gaming history for those of you who know 😁 Highly recommended!

The crispy tofu curry was delicious. Sadly there just wasn‘t enough sauce for the rice, so most of the rice basically tasted like nothing. I mentioned it to the waiter after paying and he said I should just ask for more sauce next time, so that was nice - in general I still would‘ve liked it better if there was enough sauce to begin with. I would really recommend the dish though, just keep that in mind. The portions were a little small as well. According to my friend, the veggie burger was ok, but the patty didn’t taste like much. Anyway, the staff was super friendly and I think it‘s worth a try!

We were visiting Glasgow for two nights. We found this bar the first night, we started off outside sampling the cocktail menu and later moved inside. Loved the vibe of the place. Relaxed. Loved the big glitter ball. The cocktail menu was fab, a lot of tasty drinks made by lovely bar staff

The food is absolutely excellent, very fresh and tasty. The cocktails are also lovely and very reasonable. There's always a really nice atmosphere and the staff are lovely.

Taco Tuesday is class, that and there’s someone who plays Alvvays songs over the speaker which is worth 5 stars on its own.

It's a really cool bar close to the University of Glasgow where you can simply enjoy a glass of cocktail or a beer. You can play pingpong or listen to a DJ mix up some music.

We had a lovely night at the Hillhead Book Club. The atmosphere was lovely. Impressive vegetarian menu. Service was actually great and they were so patient because our companion arrived a little late. We were approached quickly and our drinks were at the table in good time. Food arrived soon after. We had the Veg fish and chips, Marrow bone mac & cheese and the small plate fishcake with poached egg. I would say only that the food needed a bit more seasoning but overall we had a lovely night. Enjoyed it! We will definitely come back and recommend it. The pina-coladas were delicious by the way!

Popped in for lunch after a walk with the dog. The place was packed but I still felt really looked after by Anna and Ethan. I got the cajun fish brioche sandwich with scotch bonnet jam which was delicious and pleasantly tingly. Outstanding service, tasty food and a bustling atmosphere - you won't regret stopping by!

Great spot! I was here about 8 years ago, and was excited to bring my now husband. It didn’t disappoint- Prince quote on the door, giant pink disco ball, Arrested Development playing on a projector, comfortable booths, fantastic drinks, and, of course, the vibes and space are fantastic. While we were there, what seemed like an entire bus or two of young adults (18-21 ish) all wearing tennis/golf clothes or other fun costumes (so many visors!) came, took over for about an hour, then left. We were really amused and unfamiliar with their activity (a Scottish friend was happy to fill us in later!) but they were all friendly and having a blast. And the place is so big that it wasn’t an issue whatsoever. The only things that were weird were the bathroom stall was COMPLETELY dark- I had to turn on my phone flashlight or I wouldn’t have seen my hand in front of my face!! And when we asked for two shots of Maker’s, they came together in a rocks glass. Neither were issues, just funny anecdotes. Would send anyone visiting Glasgow here for sure!

Had the soup and sandwich deal (before 5pm) which was delicious and good value for money. Also have a great drinks menu, lovely cocktails and nice atmosphere.

Food was pretty bland and boring. Menu looks good but really disappointed with the actual dishes. Order a lemonade twice and it came just like sparkling water. Would be better if they said they ran out of it. Food arrived outside and no cutleries and we had to chase someone up to bring us some while our food was getting cold.

We went back to the Hillhead Bookclub today as we had previously had a nice meal there. It was the wrong choice. We had to stand for quite a while before anyone acknowledged our presence and showed us to a table. The ordering was by QR codes but we had great difficulty logging on. At least 10 minutes went by before we even saw a waiter to take our order verbally. Every table near us had the same experience. We waited 45 minutes for our food and when it arrived mine was cold. The couple at the next table asked about their food on at least 2 occasions and despite being told it was "just coming" it never appeared and they had to leave. The problem seemed to be a shortage of staff but they kept showing customers to tables when they must have known their resources were too stretched to cope with them. We had been looking forward to our lunch but we won't be back.

Tried to sit outside for a drink but we were told three different things by three different members of staff! The lady hosting had an awful attitude too. Its a shame as it looked a great place to have a drink in the sun. We've visited around a dozen other bars in the area and not had any issues around COVID-19

Helpful and friendly waitresses, ordered the veggie haggis based on the recommendation, but they’d run out so I ended up with the vegan doner kebab, which was delicious

Great atmosphere and good food - a mix of vegan/veggie and omni food. We had Saturday brunch and enjoyed the tunes the DJ was playing. Interesting decor with lots of recycled stuff.

We didn’t order any food so can’t advice on that. I had a jezebelle’s daiquiri and was very tasty. The place was quite empty on a Sunday evening, but the building is nice. They have ping pong tables and some comfortable couches. They allowed dogs inside which is good if you are a dog owner, but maybe a bit unpleasant if you are not.

Dog friendly. Class joint, love the interior of this place, very relaxed, always seems a cool clientele up for a chat. Friendly staff and reasonably priced drinks, food looks awesome too. Our go to place when out around Byres Road.

Came here for some late evening drinks with some friends. The interior is quite quirky with the bar set over 2 levels. The lower level has a hipster layout as befits the bohemian west end of Glasgow. The upper level has lots of booth style seating and tables for eating or just drinking. The upper level is also relatively open with views of the lower levels from the atrium. We only came for drinks. There a reasonable selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Cocktails were tasty but pricey, the red wine was considered okay.

Absolutely loved this place! The food is fantastic, the best donor kabab I have ever had was their vegan version of the dish. There is a large selection of wines, beers, spirits and cocktails. They are priced competitively for the area. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They seem to pride themselves on their music, which is quite justified.

  • 4/5 William C. 4 years ago on Google
Beer selection was good and the arcade games are a cool touch. Really great place to go with a group of friends. The cocktail menu also looks interesting. This place does a boozy brunch on the weekends.

Books, games, drinks, and music. All of your favorites all in one place! Themed like a primary school library. Playing early 2000 throwback songs

Had a table booked for 1.45. Went in, ordered drinks and asked for a fish and chips and a burger. Was told that they serving lunch menu from 2pm (was 1.50 when we wanted to order food ). I notice that people sitting downstairs were having fish and chips and a burger. When I asked a waitress why they could order and we couldn't she answered that it must have been some misunderstanding between staff and kitchen. Ended up having vegetarian breakfast which was nice but was missing beans ( we realised after we left ). After that I ordered sticky toffee pudding and what arrived to the table was the worst dessert I have ever had ( I'm the least fussiest person in the world ) carmel sauce crystallised. Could not eat that. I have asked staff to remove it from my bill which they did. I like that place and will come back but not for food. Sorry..

We came here because they have a lot of interesting and creative vegetarian and vegan food options. We ordered the seitan schnitzel and weren't disappointed; good portion size, creative corn ribs and flavours but the schnitzel itself was a bit dry and tough to cut through. Also, had a great dessert. Friendly and attentive staff, not to mention the amazing location and setting/decor!
