The food was amazing, the sunday roast was exactly what I had hoped for, super soft roast beef and a tasty starter of spiced calamari. The decor was unexpected and very chic, felt like a bootlegger den or prohibition bar. Good selection of whisky and decent service... but, they added a 10% service charge for two of us. I think any tip should be my decision not the businesses. The really frustrating thing was we had already given a similar cash tip to server and we ended up feeling like we paid it twice. Really frustrating as it left a poor taste in the mouth after such a nice experience. I'm not going to mark it down further but can't offer a 5 star due to this.

A NIGHT TO REMEMBER From being sat to our table to paying the bill everything about our night was perfect. We had the château Thursday deal and you got way more than your moneys worth. Excellent food and equally as good drinks! I will be returning soon 100%

Often overlooked due to its somewhat unusual Central Station location, it’s also underrated. There aren’t many great steak restaurants in Glasgow and Alston is certainly up there with the best. A somewhat quirky entrance leads you to a subterranean cellar venue with arches, marble and monochrome accents. Reminds me of a luxurious NY hotel or vintage gin bar. Arriving on a damp, dull and thoroughly dreich Sunday we took advantage of the fairly priced set menu (2 courses £25 / 3 courses £30) and were not disappointed. Portion size was ample and the beef was tender and rich. Vegetables all cooked perfectly and a decadent gravy pulling it all together and warming ones metaphorical cockles. Desserts were beautifully plated and rounded off a comfortable, competent meal. Having been before and had some fantastic steak (et vino) I can heartily recommend.

Ordered a set of Sunday roast, two courses for £20 and £24 for three course. Not bad actually tasty than expected. They were based inside of the central station, a convenient spot and easy to find. The vibe was chill, and staffs were professional and friendly. Recommended for a visit if you’re beef lover. Thou probably not the best place for vegan option.

Little hidden gem...that I can guarantee you will miss. It's entrance is well hidden within Glasgow Central Station....it's on the Gordon Street exit just to the right. You'll have walked past it 1000 times if you're a regular central station traveller & never even noticed it. Great steaks and great cocktails. Perfect place to start a Glasgow pub crawl.

Great find & obviously very popular - rang to book a table and had to opt for 9pm as they were fully booked. However it was worth the wait. The steaks are to die for - cooked to perfection! Location is below the station in the old arches, tastefully designed and very on trend for either drinks at the bar or for dining. Would definitely go again. Staff very friendly and helpful. Prices are mid range - £70 for two steaks and drinks.

Visited on a quiet weekday for lunch. It was a bit tricky to find the entrance as Google Maps pinned the restaurant on another side of Glasgow Central Station. The staff were very friendly, and the food was amazing! I loved my medium well D-rump, and the herby sauce recommended by the host was SUBLIME! The dark chocolate brownie dessert was equally brilliant. Balanced flavored and in a hearty portion. Thank you! I will definitely visit again.

Nothing fancy on the presentation but food is excellent. Staff very attentive to your needs without being on your back. Full of character inside, highly recommend.

The food was good, esp the Cote du Bouef and the cheese board. But the service was spotty. We started off with one wait staff member who was quite attentive but then that person disappeared along with any table service. I asked three times for a refill on water before getting service. The wait staff who came to take our money seemed nice but not sure where he was most of the evening. It seemed we fell through the cracks due to shift changes for the wait staff.

Our first time here, Sunday Roast was the best we have had anywhere. The staff were friendly and helpful. Only gripe was bottles of cider are small ones, would have been better if they were 500ml bottles

Recommended by my taxi driver and I must say he was spot on! Everything was amazing! The food, the service, the atmosphere. It was my first meal in Glasgow this trip, and I’m planning on making it my last one, too.

WONDER at my classic food shots! This was at least a bottle of red in, so forgive me. Cant fault it. Everything I ate was great. Scallops to start, venison for mains. The guys having steaks all made appreciative grunting noises. Although, we pre ordered and there was some slight confusion and delays around who was having what. (But this may not have been the establishments fault. I blame the wine personally). The underworld Alstons calls home is atmospheric but also captures noise. Busy does that. Nothing to be done. It was a full house Friday night and the staff were on form keeping us watered and fed, no faults there. I'll revisit for lunch sometime as I've heard good things.

After ordering we waited a while before our meal arrived and when it did it was a total disappointment. Two of had turkey which was almost cold, dry and had a teaspoonful of sauce the so called brie mash also cold just tasted like supermarket ready made mash, the other member of our party had steak and totally burnt chips! that should never have left the kitchen. We should have sent it all back but we had waited so long we just made the best of it After paying the £150 bill we thought we would just go through to the bar to finish off our day yet another mistake. The barmen seemed to think it was beneath them to clear the tables and at £24 for three drinks that is the least you would expect them to do. No one waiting to be served, dirty tables everywhere, including ours and the two of them just stood looking at there phones shocking service again. We would not recommend this place and we will never be back.

Well decorated underground restaurant. One of the best desserts I have ever had in Glasgow. It was made by real fruit drizzled with crunchy nuts cereal, strange mix but tasted amazing!

Had a lovely lunch here on a Thursday in December with my work friend. We both picked from the lunch menu and both had the roast chicken with mash and haggis bon bon. It takes about 20 mins as is cooked fresh but totally worth it - so tasty. Chicken breat comes on the bone. Serve is also great, attentive but not overbearing. It was quietish at lunch with a couple of larger Christmas party tables but atmosphere was still nice.

This place is absolutely fantastic. They have amazing food and the ambience is next level! I highly recommend this place for the steaks, but don't discount the sides. The mushrooms were divine.

This delightful restaurant set just inside of Glasgow Central station. Step down for steps into a simple but elegant decor. Beautifully cooked steaks and tastiest vanilla sauce and poached pear. Pricey but worth it. Excellent Service.

My husband took me out for a meal here on 04/06/2022. As it was evening meal it was pretty busy and a little noisy especially due to the low arched ceilings. We were shown to a table and introduced to Hannah our server (lovely girl). We were given options of water and settled for tap water. Hannah gave us plenty of time to look at the menus we both chose steak as it's what they are known for. We shared a bottle of Italian Pinot Grigio and very nice it was too.My husband ordered the 250g ribeye (medium) with fries and garlic/herb butter and I opted for the 260g fillet ( medium rare) with salad and also garlic/herb butter. We chose not to have starters as I was hoping for a dessert. We waited around 15 mins for the meals to be served but I enjoy people watching and looking at the decor in the restaurant. The photos show the simplicity of the meal but I loved the quality of the meat. The beef is aged and you can tell as its so tender. The salad was also simple but nice. My husband's fries were twice cooked I think, so crispy outside and soft in the middle. Afterwards I just couldn't face a dessert, not even a sharing one so we had a liquer/Irish coffee to end the meal. It's been a long time since we visited but enjoyed it again and hope to return in the future.

Well the roast beef Sunday lunch was fine. £25 for 2 courses I felt was a bit steep . The dessert was completely disappointing. Carnachan...tiny bit of oatmeal/ granola and swamped in cream. Not nice. We left them

Bit disappointed to not give it a 5, I would have if it weren’t for the fact I went in specifically for a Sunday roast, but was not able to order one. I came in on time to be able to order one, but they stop taking orders for them at a certain point. I sat at the table for more than 30 minutes waiting for a server to notice me, and during that 30 minutes, the eligible time for ordering a Sunday roast had passed. I had never had one before and wanted to try one, but it wasn’t meant to be I suppose. I resigned myself to a steak and mash instead (I know, poor me), which was still good. Hopefully the servers start to be a little more proactive in attentiveness to patrons. I did also like the setting, vaulted ceilings, etc. Very nice. I would like to come back and give it another chance, hopefully I can make it in time for that roast.

Great restaurant for steak, really good value with the pre theatre set menu. The bar is also nice, they specialise in gins but they do some amazing cocktails. Had the best Amaretto sour!

I have been a number of times to Alston and can recommend the bar and the grill. Food is good and there is a large selection of gin, whisky's and bourbon's. They do an afternoon menu which is a set price and very enjoyable. If you haven't been look out for the entrance in Glasgow central it is easy to miss

Inside Central Station entrance. Down to a very gloomy vaulted cellar for steak & chips. We had booked, service was fine. Good meat & veg, but prices are fairly high. Recommended for a special steak.

  • 5/5 John R. 4 years ago on Google
Great steaks cooked spot on. Good range of cocktails and they mix a mean Vodka Martini. Lunch menu decent value for money. Wine list has some reasonably priced wines and a good range of choice. Service friendly and polite. Quite atmospheric descending underneath Central Station.

Really excellent 👍 I had only had drinks in here previously bit at last got a chance to try their steaks and wasn't disappointed. Myself and my wife each had a 300g Sirloin both cooked differently but both cooked to perfection. We had a cracking bottle of Malbec to go with it then followed it all up with 2 delicious desserts. The staff were very friendly and helpful and all in all it was a fantastic night. Their cocktails are also made to perfection. Highly recommended

What a great place! I must have passed the door of Alston Bar and Beef a hundred times without knowing there was a restaurant there! Just been for Sunday Roast lunch and it was delicious, roast beef followed by chocolate brownie. We had a cocktail in the bar before eating and decided just to eat in the bar because there was such a great atmosphere there. All the staff were great, many thanks.

Meal was really nice and the staff were lovely, but we got the table next to the fire exit, which was disappointing (guess we drew the short straw). Staff coming in and out all the time as the storeroom must be behind the fire exit. Cheesecake dessert was incredibility good and the duck was amazing. Highly recommend eating here, but lost a star as the table location was a bit gutting.

Can't remember when we last enjoyed chateaubriand as much as this. So good we insisted on wee doggy bag for the bit we were too full to eat. Consequently, will now have to buy a dog as too delicious to share with neighbours' dogs who would normally benefit from these take aways.
