Usually a busy place. Looks lovely. Drank in it a couple times - average town prices, loads of options tho. Last time I ate years ago had the fish which was overdone but after a couple years thought I'd give it another shot.....why did I bother. Got the sun roast Yorkie wrap. Staff said no roast potatoes (don't know if they ran out or just don't do them but they are in the picture in the menu) got this tiny plate, small amount of chips and peas. No gravy and when asked for it, she looked confused about mewanting gravy (it's a sun roast!) So 5 mins wait on gravy - didn't even get an apology, just here's your gravy. Food has gotten abit cold. Small portion. Abit bland. Paid like Β£25 for 2 and 2 pint cokes. Def cheaper options for a roast about. Edit - and when asked how was my food at the end - my reply was 'meh, it was ok' and the girl replied 'ohh that's great'. Good to see that's what yous aim for. Reply - I thank you for your offer and while I don't mind having a drink here. I have to decline. As I stated, that's twice I've ate here with a decent amount of time between and both times and the food has been terrible. Free food or not, it's not really worth it.

This place was absolutely buzzing the first time we went in. There was some event going on upstairs, and the people were really giving it loads noise wise. The prices were fine and the atmosphere was great as well. Some people were eating, and they seemed to be enjoying the food. Service was quick and efficient, they also had loads of football on the different screens. This place is a must for a starting point if you're having a drink in Glasgow. We loved it so much we went back a couple of times, well done.

Cocktails are lovely here. The Cocktail trees are perfect for sharing. Great lively place to go in Glasgow.

Popped in for a bite to eat and a few drinks. Atmosphere was good. It was busy and there are not many seats. Anyway, food was good, drinks reasonably priced. Staff friendly and all round nice experience. Worth a visit, get there before 5, not many tables

We were out for a night with family from Wales. We came to the merchant for dinner and drinks because we have been several times and had lovely food and drinks, great value for money. Tonight we all ordered burger and chips with a drink for 8.49 each from the menus on the table. At the bar we were told the menus were out of date and instead of being charged 17.00 per couple the new price was 25.00 per couple. Very disappointed as surely if you advertise food and drinks at a certain price you should honour that price. We raved about how great your food and prices were to our relatives and were let down.

Great place. Very central in town being between Glasgow central station & queen street station for meeting/catching up with family & friends during the day for food & drinks, especially after a day of shopping, kids allowed too. Good food & atmosphere, friendly staff. Children can be taken in during the day. Fab place to start off as well for night life before heading off to the club's around town.

Located in the bustling centre of Glasgow city centre, sporting some great building architecture & that brings with it an awesome atmosphere. Great for a sporting event & for a good old drink session...even Boris Johnson would organise a Christmas do here even if there was a national lockdown.

Had fish in chips in here and it was delicious. The staff are excellent, friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was very pleasant and of mixed age groups. The prices are also very reasonable. I will definitely return.

I asked for a new coke as mine was watery and flat. The bar staff agreed it was watery and flat and said thats how it comes and refused an exchange or refund

Nice chilled bar. Wide selection of age groups. Staff very friendly and helpful with suggestion of where to go afterwards. Decent selection of beers that were much cheaper than most city centre places. Didn’t try the food

Food is generally ok we went on 20th may andand saw a 2 for 1 desserts poster. We approached staff regarding this and they stated it was a old offer and we couldnt get ut. Surely if something is advertised it should be given put us off going bk

Horrendous waiting staff and food was shocking. Went recently with my wife and four year old son, weather was dreadful so decided to pop in as past experiences hadn't been too bad. Walked in and only table available was cluttered with half empty glasses, ordered for my wife and I as our son wasn't hungry and sat down. Woman who brought over the cutlery and condiments asked me "is he with you?" pointing at my son, when I said yes she told me that I would need to order him a meal as it was the law and she "didn't make the rules". I ordered my son a meal and sat down, again the same woman came over with my son's cutlery and informed us that we wouldn't be able to have anymore alcoholic drinks (despite only having one each) as it was the law and she "didn't make the rules". When the food arrived it was stone cold and I returned my mixed grill, when it came back it looked like exactly the same plate of food and it was stone cold again. We ate what we could, as quickly as we could while having dirty looks aimed our way by the same waitress then left. Horrendous, shocking and terrible experience, will never be back.

I went to the merchant with friends before attending a gig and had a fabulous experience. Absolutely fantastic atmosphere with a great food and drinks menu. Another plus for me was the multiple TVs laid out around the place which made it great for watching the football. Would definitely recommend.

Great pub for a couple drinks, to watch some sports, and enjoy the atmosphere. Attentive, cheerful staff. Good quality food for the prices. Great location in the center of Glasgow. They'll typically have a couple different football games on if theyre are multiple on at once

Went for drinks after dinner on a Saturday night. Good atmosphere although music got turned up to a ridiculous level at one point. The bar also had no Morgan's and ran out of Kraken. We were using the app to order drinks but that then stopped working.

Spoons vibes & fantastic prices for students. Great layout, very spacious. Lots of screens we didn't look at. Slightly annoying strobe lights. Lovely overall.

Seats are very comfortable. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The breakfasts are the best in the area. Potato scones, black pudding, toast, beans, mushrooms, two eggs, for Β£6.91. After 12ish it goes upto an all day breakfast at Β£8.50. Coffee mocha is Β£2.99, but can tell the difference in quality. Worth it. Good for entertainment aswell. They have like 10 tvs with all different sports. Can't fault this place for enjoying your break from work.

Big bar. Lots of tables. Sports on quite a few TVs. Good selection of lagers etc. Not so many ales. Service was quick even though it was very busy.

Food is pretty good and reasonable prices. Festive Vegan burger was really good. Highly recommend the cookie apple pie. It is a bit too noise, even for a pub. Services could improve a bit, as it takes a bit to get food and last time attendant insisted something was not in the menu, even thought it was.

Hadn't been here before, but found it a really nice place to meet up with friends and have a blether. Didn't have any food, but the dishes I saw coming out looked very appetising.

Went here a few nights ago with my children. Before getting a table, we asked about their family policy and they indicated that they were fine with children as long as food was ordered. After ordering food and staying a short period, we were rudely approached by a staff member indicating that we needed to order mains for the children to be permitted, and then we were scolded for not reading the sign upon entering. We left shortly after that terse interaction and reviewed the sign again, it said nothing about needing to order mains. Disappointed that after a fairly nice time here a staff member decided to ruin the experience by being abrupt, and not understanding their own rules.

This pub had a good atmosphere and the service was fairly good. The glasses were small like the ones you get in hotel bathrooms but the thing that really let it down was the fact that our party was seated at a reserved table which was uncomfortably cold due to the air conditioning.

Decent veggie options & generous portion sizes, super affordable prices for being in the city centre. Drinks were also definitely value for money & had impressive selection of spirits on the bar. Friendly service & sound staff, Grant & Gvidas were great. Look forward to visiting again when back in Glasgow :)

Cosy bar nestled nicely in between a few busy streets in central Glasgow. The draft selection is fab, massive fan of Hazy Jane in there! We arrived as a large group, where our table was waiting. All meals arrived at the same time, hot and tasty. Our server Grant was faultless! He was polite, attentive and hilarious. Thank you team Merchant πŸ₯³

Good selection of beer especially the Drygate options. Food was good and service was quick and friendly. Noise level at lunchtime was fine

Went in to grab a bite to eat. We were unsure if we seat ourselves or wait so we went to the bar to ask. The bartender looked at and made eye contact with my wife, then immediately turned around and walked away. A simple 'please wait', wave asking for a minute, any gesture of acknowledgement really. What looked and felt like a blatant dismal only ensured that we go elsewhere. Because this could have been an accident I'll give 2 stars instead of 1, but in the service industry optics matter and to us this did not look good.

Gotta be in my top 5 for pubs I've ever been too. A nice cozy atmosphere, fantastic facilities, brilliant food and value priced drinks. It was cozy yet spacious with its high ceiling. Food was tasty, drinks were satisfying and the service was brilliant. I'd gladly visit again and again.

  • 5/5 Un_ W. 4 years ago on Google
Busy busy pub, food is good and around usual pub prices in the area. If you see an empty table, then grab it, as it won't stay empty long in there. Only gave 4 stars due to the busy ness of the pub, and the lack of a seat or empty table. In hindisght though I will change that to 5*, if it wasnt a good pub there would be plenty of seats available.

Its very similar to most Wetherspoon type of pubs although i personally thought it was slightly better than most. Good city centre location. Clean and smart decor although for a relatively busy Saturday afternoon they could have done with more staff serving behind both bars. 10 minutes to queue when you are just popping in for a quick drink might put some people off.
