I had a lovely experience at this restaurant, located in Glasgow. I was hungry and wanted to eat my Nigerian delicacy. It was quite easy to locate by Google map. The restaurant itself looks good and neat with enough eating tables for customers, I rocked and enjoyed the afro music playing in the background, it gave me a feeling of home. Their menu contains variety of African - Nigerian food s, drinks and snacks. I ordered the infamous palm wine which I have missed for over 5yrs. The cost of food was OK, quite affordable. Good customer service, but they need to employ more staff to make the service quicker, I had to wait for about 30 minutes to get my meal. Also, the chicken I ate didn't taste like a hard chicken from Africa. The vegetable soup I ate was very delicious, but a bit watery. The pounded yam was perfect!!. In conclusion, I didn't regret coming there, and hope to come back anytime I am in Glasgow.

Well, I was hungry and was served pounded yam with egusi soup though I ordered vegetable soup (spinach). The waiter returned like 7mins later to inform me no vegetable soup so I had to choose from egusi, okro or ogbono soup. There was/ were no meat(s) in the soup except for maggi/cube-sized meat like 5pieces. Barely conspicuous. I was shocked to say the least. In a Nigerian soup back home, the soup will be "contending" for space with the plenty meats in the plate. Finally, I had expected African music from the speakers but it was hip hop blazing all through. In all, the food was hot and my tummy filled. Q.E.D! Lol

Ordered nyama choma, pounded yam and egusi. I’m not sure if they went shopping for the ingredients at the point of receiving our order but after a 50min wait, we made enquiries. After a further 10mins we returned to ask if our food was really on the way because we had another appointment. After another 5mins, one of the members of management came with part of our order and a huge reprimand for us. He informed us that Hilton wouldn’t tolerate being hustled in such a manner 🤣😂. Hustled?! After an hour?! He further told us that they had a large order to take care of - my advice, hire more staff. This is not the first time that we have experienced an unduly long wait but this is the first time that we have waited 1hr+ and had to endure a mouthful rather than an apology on receipt of the meal. 😅 The food is nice but this place is probably only ideal if you have no other plans for the evening. We ended up eating half of the meal and took the remainder away with us because of time. There were two of us and the restaurant was not busy.

Been there a couple of times already. Great food and great costumer service. You have to go to the bar to place your order and make payment first. The food takes a while to arrive though, so if you're very hungry, you're better oof ordering a starter to keep you till the food arrives at your table. Unfortunately didn't give five stars because there were kids running around, shouting and generally obstructing the ambience both times I went. But I enjoyed the food and will definitely go back.

Just came from this place, it’s so horrible that I don’t even know where to start. A simple advice: AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS! First, the customer service is a foreign concept to them. Food took 1 hour to come. As if that was not enough, the food was just inedible. The most horrible food I’ve had in my life. We had katogo and the matooke was not well cooked nor fully peeled, and the lamb stew was just tomato purée mixed with lamb. The meat seemed old and dark. Don’t order the tilapia too, a grave mistake I regret now. I’ve got stomach issues after eating there. Plus, it was soo noisy, besides the horrible music. there was a kids birthday happening, them screaming, crying, blowing balloons, running everywhere. Everything from the moment I entered to the time I left was pure catastrophe. We asked for a refund 45 min after ordering and without getting food, but to no avail. All in all, it’s the most horrible experience I’ve had in a restaurant in general. And I wasn’t the only one having this problem. Just save your money and avoid this place. Also, white people got better treatment, got served before us even though they came after us, and they got table service while we were told to go order at the bar. What a disaster that place is. If it was up to me, it should be closed and open when they know how to run a restaurant at good standards. One star seems too generous. A zero would do.

Absolutely terrible service. After 40 minutes we were informed that our meal was waiting on the "hot plate" for the driver to pick it up. Promised 20 minutes max for it to arrive. 20 minutes later I got a call back saying that one of the dishes I ordered was not available and should choose another. He spoke incredibly quickly, and when asked to slow down he said "this is a busy restaurant, you are not the only one ordering food on a Saturday night" and repeatedly asked if I wanted to cancel, at which point I accepted the substitution. 2 hours after that, no food arrived. I called back, the guy confirmed my name and address, and after speaking some more gibberish, he said thank you and hung up. 3 hours, the food still hasn't arrived. According the man on the phone, I know nothing about running a business and shouldn't question the time it can take to prepare and deliver food - the 40 minutes stated on my delivery confirmation was just the minimum. Whoever it was in charge of the phones was extremely rude and very hostile. Such disgusting service with absolutely horrible staff. Getting my money back as soon as I can. DO NOT ORDER FOOD FROM THIS SITE. They are incapable of handling delivery or running their precious business.

I ordered food via Uber eats at 16:30. Slots delivery was from 17:55-1800 long wait. However, I was still willing to wait as I was going for night shift and couldn't make dinner for the family. The food didn't arrive by the slot time. When I contacted them to ask what the issue was, they said the driver had 5 other orders to deliver. I shall just wait. The order came at 19:20, 4 hours later, which made me late for my work, and the little one has sandwiches for dinner as they go to bed at 19:00. I don't recommend ordering delivery. Even dining in takes forever to get your food on the table. The food delivered very cold. The chicken wings were white skin that looked uncooked. I was very disappointed.

Amazing place, really awesome atmosphere that genuinely reminds you of an African place. The owner and barman are amazing and super friendly, hands down one of the best restaurants in the whole city. If you're looking for a cool place to have some food and have a great time, look no further, can't recommend it enough. I ordered the Vegetarian special a couple of times and the roasted vegetables, simply amazing quality, and it feels like genuine good food.

If you're ordering food and it is a Friday or weekend, order it to arrive at least an hour earlier than you want to eat. They will definitely be late. However, the food is absolutely delicious so it's worth doing that. Luckily, I read all the reviews so I ordered my food around 4pm to be delivered for 5:15 meaning I had it for 6:30. I just want to include that in my review so no one has to leave angry comments about late food - the comments should just be people raving about how delicious everything is! Get the jerk chicken and the murio wa nyama.

Took 2 hours for my food to arrive. They had their own delivery driver so couldn’t track the order. The calabash special burger was in-fact nothing special and something you could find at the cheapest burger shop - like something straight from the freezer. The pounded yam and egusi soup also tasted awful, as did their sauces, Disappointed that I ordered with these guys. Wouldn’t recommend

This bar-restaurant really has to be on your list of places to try, if you're looking for something a little different. Authentic Kenyan food and beer. The special mixed grill is amazing. An added bonus is that it's open late, handy if your train is massively delayed (Central Station is just around the corner).

I tried the new 'design your box' from Calabash and it was GREAT! Great tasting food, (the choma was especially tender), great choices available and great value for money!! You can't go wrong with this! oh and delivery time was 30 mins... not bad at all! I didn't take a picture cos I was too much in a hurry to dig in... next time I will!

Having been back in Calabash recently for the first time since March,i really do like the changes made in the guys toilet. The mirrors are of good quality and the lighting is good also. 'The mirror man.' The mirror equality crusader....!

We got the choma box from the 'Design your Calabash African Meal' option. We ordered nyama choma, lamb samosa, fried rice, kachumbari & their special chilli sauce. The food was amazing. Everything fresh & tasty. Good value and delivery time. Will be ordering again soon.

Worst restaurant experience I ever had, I had to wait 45 minutes until the waiter came to take our order then a further hour and a half till the food came out. There was no organization and it was total chaos, the waiters looked overwhelmed and it wasn't overly busy. I saw 2 other tables complain about their service as well one said they were waiting for 2 hours to pay the bill, I couldn't hear what the other table was saying but it looked like they messed up the order or something. The food its self was okay but we had wasted the whole night waiting for our food. Anytime we tried to ask the waiter anything they would just say "1 minute, 1 minute" and never actually come over to ask us what we needed. I will never go back to this restaurant and strongly discourage anyone who is thinking of going.

If you are looking for authentic, well-delivered African delicacy, look no further. With a blend of East-African & Afro-Caribbean dishes, I was extremely delighted with the choice on offer. I got the Nyama-Choma which is a Kenyan speciality, accompanied with Jerk-Chicken & Fried rice. I truly was left licking my fingers, glad I took some home Will be going back again. 5/5

Went to Calabash as a friend was keen to try out some different cuisine. Food was delayed by 1.5-2 hrs, but we did get some free samosas. I had the lamb curry and it was awful! The lamb was hard and chewy, essentially it was old lamb. Stomach didn’t fair well after. The barman/waiter was really helpful but the remaining waiters were rude. The music playing in the “background” was so loud you couldn’t hear someone talk. Overall a terrible experience and nobody in the group will be going back. Poor service and terrible food and I would urge folks to avoid altogether.

First time in this restaurant, and it was a very negative experience! The wrong soup was given with pounded yam. The pounded yam itself was not well made. Egusi soup was ordered for takeaway, but spinach soup was given. The spinach soup was not well made. I will not recommend this restaurant. It is money wasted. Contact them through an email but no reply. If you want quality and delicious Nigerian food, stay away!

Food was tasty and good portion. The only downside is that when I called, it requested if I could pre-order as we were on our way but the gentleman declined. This could have saved us some time.

A homely small restaurant/bar located at central glasgow which serves West African cuisine.A bit cramped and expensive but the food is nice though very spicy and service is good. Its difficult to locate unless you have been there before as its located in the basement of the building use Google map!

We ordered the sharing platter for 4 and the goat curry and peanut soup, plus some samosas and plantain to start, between 5 this was the perfect amount. Everything was well cooked and tasted absolutely incredible, especially the peanut soup which we were all fighting over. The staff were very warm and attentive, and overall we all had a great experience and left feeling very contented. I'd highly recommend coming here for anyone with taste buds, I've never tried anything like it in Glasgow :)

After waiting 2-4hrs, the food never arrived. ☹️ Understand that places can be busy. But after being hung up on, being told different stories, and saying 'the driver is coming, he's left' it was a bit of a disappointing end. Sorting out to get money back. A shame since I've good reviews about this place. Edit: Food finally arrived after waiting all night. Portion size? Very disappointing. Taste wise? Lack of. Didn't feel comfortable finishing it as everything seemed off.

I and my children loved each of the meals. We had a buffet sort of takeaway and I can honestly say - it was as if we were dinning in a Kenyan Coastal Restaurant! The food was bursting with flavors!!! Well done chef - 6✨✨from us!!! I would highly recommend!

After a long day of exploring Glasgow, I needed an African touch and The Calabash African Bar and Restaurant was recommended. Had mama's special and it was not that bad. Had African Fanta as well. It was noisy from music and other guests though. But good location in the city centre.

The food here is AMAZING! I always get the nyama choma (sizzling lamb) and the chikina awaze tibis (lamb with the delicious spongy injera). Bala is the best! We live in Edinburgh but he remembers us (and what we eat) every time!

High expectations going in here. Very authentic feeling on the inside, but can get quite hot as there are no windows. We had to wait aaaggeess for our food after ordering which wasn't fun. The food tasted okay, I wouldn't say amazing. We had the goat curry and lamb stew which were unimpressive. The jollof rice tasted quite nice though I'd recommend that. Chicken liver for starters was also good, as were the cassava chips. Not sure if I'd go back here in all honesty, but perhaps worth a try if you're feeling authentic African food.

My very first visit to glasgow was almost ruined by a very rude customer rep(looks indian) was screaming at the top of his voice at me for not been able to quickly decide on my order not like there were other customers at the moment. I had to leave immediately as there was no way i could enjoy a meal in such an hostile environment.

  • 1/5 Pokuaa B. 3 years ago on Google
I will never visit this place again. Never!!! Me and my family waited over an hour for our order. As we were waiting, i asked the manager when our food would be served. He rudely replied' others had been waiting'. the food was bland. I ordered chicken liver and it was overcooked and mashed. the jollof rice had no taste, served without the chicken and when i asked I was given chopped chicken in a very oily sauce. A very unprofessional service. At the end, I was overcharged and had to question this. Please avoid, avoid, avoid!!!

My expectations for the entire ambiance were higher however the table was pleasantly set upon arrival :-). The waiter was overwhelmed and the quality of service was jeopardized at its peak hours. The nyama choma and ugali was delicious. Should I desire to go again, I will make sure there is no football match going on!!! The restaurant turned into a football stadium.

By far the best African bar in Glasgow. They served the best cuisines from across Africa although a chunk of the meals served are from East Africa and southern Africa. They also have the best authentic African beers with real African taste such as Guinness and Star... My favourite meal was always Injera! Music is awesome and as I soccer fan, It will be the beat place to watch the major leagues on TV while you enjoy you drink and meal.

Not just a taste of Africa, this is a time machine back to childhood, the nsema is perfect and leaves no need for cutlery, taste, aroma, variety... Best restaurant/takeaway in Glasgow. Tried for the first time a week ago, reordred twice since, and am only waiting till the leftovers are gone before my next try, soo much variety. James.

NyammmmACHommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmA!!! :-) I have ONLY been 5 times and have ordered the same dish every time as it is simply Dee-Lishious!!! You can ask the chef to make it "soft" and tender if you prefer it that way, like I do. It comes with a lovely and super fresh little side salad with optional scotch bonnet chillis in a homemade salsa. VERY generous portions. Value for money. Oh and Hot Hot HOT Bar Man - A 100% Scotch Bonnet himself!!! Thank you Calabash :-)
