I was stunned. The museum is beautiful outside and inside. Great collections (with Dali's Christ on the Cross on display) and lots to see and experience. It's completely free, so make sure to go! On Sunday there is an organ recital around noon, which was also cool to see and hear.

Amazing, Walked through quickly. Great place for kids and souvenir shoppers. Very eclectic. The organ player was entertaining a crowd as we entered. An eclectic grouping grouping of collectibles. The museum is free with a donation box at the entrance. There is a cafe on the main level and a restaurant on the lower level. Both were crowded when we visited.

Beautiful and interesting gallery with many different exhibitions. Entry is free but they do appreciate donations. Come at 1pm to see the organists play in the main gallery square, wonder sounds that resound through the hall. Plenty of paid parking right outside the gallery though take note that the parking machines only accept coins.

Nice place to spend some time wandering around. A large selection of Scottish and world history on display inside and amazing building. Souvenir shop and cafe on site.

A very good gallery and museum, with a wide range of exhibits and artworks, historical artefacts and Scottish history. Several classic Old Master paintings, surprising for a municipal gallery. Some temporary exhibitions also. Worth listening to the organ recital in the grand hall at 13:00 every day.

Great selection of art, history and culture. Museum has free entry and is a great location to learn more about the city and the history. Good selection of exhibits. Would make a great day out for kids. Allow at least 2 hours for the visit. One of the best museums in Glasgow.

It’s so impressive. We attended the Sunday organ recital. It’s incredible that the organ sound hits you right as you enter the main hall on the ground floor. Children play and dance to organ music. The art and all artefacts are beautiful and help to experience history in an engaging and fun way!

This is one of the must see museum in Glasgow. It is a massive museum with magnificent art pieces and sculptures. The history of war and our forefathers is education itself. I visited it during Christmas time and just outside this museum an ice skating rink was set up for winter and it was awesome.

I was really surprised by the variety of items on display. It really is the best of both worlds, an art gallery plus a museum. Items from Egypt to modern times. Look at the photos on google maps and their website to see the vast assortment of items in the museum plus fantastic selection of art work in the gallery. At 1pm there was an organ recital, which was unexpected but well worth sitting down and listening to. If your legs get tired, there are 2 cafes, one in the main entrance with great views of the organ, plus a larger cafe downstairs. The prices were very reasonable. There is also a souvenir shop on the lower floor and plenty of toilets. I went by bus as there is a bus stop right outside but there is also a car park at the rear.

One of the best art galleries and museums in the world. Stunning paintings and the Mackintosh display is breath taking. But everywhere you look there's gorgeous stuff. And don't miss the Dali. Its out of the world. Where else would you sea a Spitfire and a dinosaur.

I have been coming to this museum since I was a child, I still find the stuffed animals slightly discomforting as I did when I first saw them when I was very young. The exhibitions continue to change and evolve to make best use of the exhibits, there are always the sounds of young excited children asking questions. There's lots to see and do and if you are lucky you can listen to the beautiful pipe organ being played at lunchtime. The staff are always friendly and helpful. The building itself is in beautiful condition set in a beautiful park near the University. There is reasonably priced parking on site, a coffee shop and a cafe. Go and see for yourself you will always see something new and learn someting interesting, it is free just as all the Glasgow museums are.

Kids absolutely loved going round all the exhibitions, amazing animals and Egyptian ones were their favourite. Kids section was fun although my kids were slightly older than what it was aimed for. Cafe was nice but not many choices for the kids, we ended up with soup and sandwiches for us and just chips for them. Service from the staff was great. Great grounds outside for walking and a play park (could be refreshed).

Absolutely wonderful museum and art gallery. For me the most stunning part is the building itself. Outside is good but inside is spectacular. Very helpful and friendly guides. No charge to enter except for special exhibitions. Quite similar to the Natural History museum in London but with art. We spent a few hours here and could easily have doubled it. Will be going back for more, that’s for certain!

Gorgeous Victorian architecture. It was the venue of the international exhibition in 1888. Free organ performance inside. The collections inside are very interesting as well, such as some cute pieces and modern arts (which will not get you bored)

A good old fashioned Museum & Art-Gallery. Lots of stuffed animals, Egyptology, archiology, and paintings. Quite a few galleries currently closed but can easily spend a couple of hours on a rainy day here and still come back again. The Dali painting Christ of Saint John of the Cross is worth seeing regardless of your beliefs. There is of course the compulsory cafe & shop. There's a reasonable amount of parking at the back but public transport should be considered especially if it's likely to be busy.

I visited this gallery today, we had to book our tickets online... the tickets were free, and you can give a donation once inside. All social distancing and track and trace in place, all staff wearing masks. The gallery was very open space, plenty of room to look around, not to crowded. The gallery was very clean and tidy, and plenty of staff around to help, staff were very friendly. A lot of new things to see, and plenty of the old favourites about... was a very enjoyable time... ticket lets you spend 2 hours in there. Would I revisit, yes 100%, would i recommend, again yes 100%

Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum opened in 1901 and quickly became one of the most popular attractions in Scotland. Within its distinctly Spanish Baroque building, there are 22 galleries housing one of the finest art collections in Europe. Highlights of the museum’s permanent collection include Salvador Dalí’s Christ of St John of the Cross, alongside works by Vincent van Gogh and Rembrandt.

Amazing free museum! Quite an interesting diversity that will content everybody! Loved the paintings sections and the Dali painting which is - for me - the highlight of the collection! But a lot of other pieces of art from sculptures to videos or objects; the Egyptian section really seemed to attract a lot of people! Went to it twice cause it’s huge and it’s highly advised to go during the week where the place was a lot quieter!

A great way to spend a rainy afternoon - it has a good range of exhibits including a "Mackintosh" selection and history of Glasgow. Its family friendly and entry is free. The building itself is beautiful and the inside reminiscent of "Night at the Museum". We didn't have time to try the cafe but the toilets were nice & clean.

Small but varied art gallery. A really eclectic mix of things. The daily organ playing, the broad range of art and exhibits make this a really enjoyable place to visit. There are so many little things to see, but unlike some museums, it’s not overpowering. A special mention should go to the cafe with stunning biscuits and short bread. The staff were very polite.

Be sure to leave a donation in one of the boxes near each entry point!.... Try to be around for the short organ recital usually around 1 pm.

Marvellous museum and art gallery with plenty to see, enough for a two to three hour visit. The grand hall and organ is an impressive way to enter the building and there are plenty of navigational maps to help guide visitors. The art gallery collection has some internationally important paintings and there's an interesting room about the history of Glasgow.

I really enjoyed my time at the museum. The museum is huge and there are many exhibitions to see. There are not only paintings, but also photographs, antiques, specimens of animals and plants, science and much more. While admiring the paintings, I discovered that many of the artists were from the local area of Glasgow. They showed the beauty of the city of Glasgow from ancient times to the present day in a different way. I had a great time and felt like I got to know the city a little better.

This is a must visit if you’re in Glasgow for a short time. Beautiful museum. When I visited, there was a person performing on the organ and a lot of people were there to listen so I suggest checking their website for details. My favourite exhibition was the photography exhibition by Eric Watt who captured Glasgow between the 50s-90s. Very touching documentary/street photography at its best. If you’re here don’t miss it!

The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is a free museum that I loved going to growing up and I like that the different sections of the museum make it feel more like multiple individual museums in the main building. The building itself is very beautiful and it's historic, and it's a great place to visit no matter what season it is, I personally liked going there in the winter and seeing the frost on the windows and that was so nice to see especially since the indoors is always at a comfortable temperature. One of my favourite places in Kelvingrove Museum is seeing the taxidermy, especially of the animals that are now extinct as it offers an up-close experience of the animals and helps to gain a fuller understanding of what the world used to look like before and compare that to now and looking at the features of the animals and understand how they survived back then.

Free entry to revisit the past. The gallery starts with Scottish arts and then takes you through past histories carefully collected from around the world. It has an animal section which might interest kids. If you happen to be there around 1pm, do not miss the piano performance by the hall. Amazing experience!

Really enjoyed this museum and it is free! Lots of different things to look at, from dinasours and animals to Egyptian mummies and war history. The organ player was great, he actually played the barbie theme tune and Elvis fools rush in along with a few other hits. Good for kids above the age of 4. They have a good sized cafe that also sells wine and beer. There are a couple of gift shops with reasonably priced gifts.

It's perfect! It's a must to visit in Glasgow. The organ recital at 1pm (3pm on Sunday) is amazing. I really enjoyed with the Art Noveau section and Mackintosh in the ground floor. Even there is a Dali's painting on the first floor. And the spitfire in the west court is totally unexpected. I hope to come back because and discover more parts of this interesting museum.

One of my favourite museums in the world, I visit every time I find myself in Glasgow! If you are lucky, you might stumble upon a recital on their massive pipe organ - it was an excellent experience when I did, a lovely surprise. Also a must see is the gorgeous painting "Christ of Saint John of the Cross", by Salvador Dali. Unfortunately it was away on a loan the last time I visited - hopefully I'll see it on my next trip there!

This museum is amazing knowledge sources. We can learn from ancient Egypt until the modern design and the interaction of human and nature. It is an inclusive museum for anybody, any age, without any barriers. Learning on how human interacted and expressed their thoughts, ideas for their interests, existences, and signatures made us live. Must visit!

Lovely museum and has a large interactive area for kids. Loved the gift shop. Was a Linda McCartney photo exhibit while we were there, fascinating. There is a restaurant on first floor and snacks on second. The building outside should be admired also.

  • 5/5 Clark G. 4 years ago on Google
Definitely a must for anyone visiting Glasgow. The building is split into halves, with a natural history side and an art and expression side. There's lots to learn about Scottish culture, Flora and fauna and history. The gift shop downstairs is also really good for souvenirs with a focus on more artistic items and less of the usual cheesy tartan nonsense. There's a cloakroom downstairs too that for £1 per person will allow you to store suitcases and bags.

  • 5/5 Louise C. 4 years ago on Google
Well worth a visit - or even 2. We arrived at 10am and enjoyed some of the exhibits and the wonderful organ recital. Sadly we didn't have enough time to see all of the museum- so we'll be back to see the rest when we're next in Glasgow.

One of my favourite places to go I appreciated the the artwork more than the natural history, wish there was more Scottish artwork, it is very good. The vegetarian cafe on the ground floor is good and slightly pricey main course and drink for under a tenner the haggis burger was OK, had better burgers, not enough thought went into it I preffered the coleslaw, chips and ketchup, the apple juice tasted nice perhaps the fact that I paid a bit more made it taste nicer but who knows let me know if you agree. Staff were very kind. I also saw a few fruit flies that may be due to me sitting in the glass area.

I am from New York and visit London a great deal and am constantly at the Met, the Museum of Natural History, the British Museum, etc. Whenever I go to a new location the first thing I do is head to its big museum. The Kelvingrove is as good as any I've been to. I can't think of anything I've seen elsewhere that isn't represented here in some fashion. Sri Lankan masks, Chinese figurines, Viking gold, birds and animals both modern and ancient, paintings, Egyptian mummies, a statue of Elvis, it's all here. They've even got an actual Spitfire hanging from the ceiling! This is the only place in Scotland I went to twice on back-to-back days. The building itself is interesting and you will certainly find many, many things to spend your time gawking at.

A totally wonderful and worthwhile attraction. World class. Stunning architecture is the first thing that hits you as you approach and enter. Once inside, you are met with two directions to choose from. You can choose to do a first class natural history museum or a wonderful art museum with a V&A type area as well. Just a great spot.

Even if you don't have the time or want go into the museum, stop by to see the architecture. Just a gorgeous building. You can see the university from the front which is amazing. Great to stop by if you are headed to Ashton Ln. Inside is a wonderful experience as well.

Super museum, one of the best I have been to. The taxidermy was a little "of the past" and we found it a bit odd. As A whole, a super collection and realy worth a day. Super helpful staff, posh cafe with table service, but no croissants! Good coffee mind! A great mix of painting and mixed historical items. 10/10 if a bit creepy.

Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum was first opened in 1901 and has been enjoyed and inspired by millions of visitors ever since, apart from a three-year closure for major refurbishment and restoration between 2003/06. The 'refurb' cost circa £28m and amongst its many terrific enhancements included a new restaurant. Happily there's much to look at and learn from, for all the family, within the museum & art gallery precincts.

Beautiful place! I have recently arrived here, and I was overwhelmed by its historic and romantic museums. As inquisitive as I am, I stepped into the museum in a windy morning of a summer day and left it when the night was falling. I was absolutely mesmerized by the works of art in the museum. There are different rooms which depict the architecture and lifestyle. There are enormous colourful canvas, amazing sculptures, exquiste paintings and wall arts.

It was a bit hard to access since they built a giant ice skating rink in front of the entrance, and we couldn't take photos of the entrance. The interior was beautiful and there were some very interesting displays. It does feel a little random since the museum jumps from paintings to historical artefacts to animals but it's still a fun experience.

We spent hours roaming the galleries. There's so much to see and in different areas of interest. A great day out and a feast for the eyes. I was particularly interested in seeing the works of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and the Glasgow style. Although it was only one gallery, it did not disappoint. A great array of art and artifacts. The only thing I wished if for the frescoes to be hung lower so I could get a better look at the details. That would be great if you could do that for my next visit to Glasgow, thanks! Hehe 😜 The building itself is stunning with beautiful details. Even the door handles were a work of art in themselves. The shop was well stocked with an array of goodies.

Very interesting! I spent hours inside this museum, which has several sections, with themes focused on archeology, history, the contemporary world, art. During the visit I enjoyed an hour of listening to the organ played to the public. The Kelvingrove organ is one of the most famous in the world. For free.

  • 4/5 ZoltanoMoltano 1 year ago on Google
Smaller then the usual museums of similar kind but greatly condensed to give everyone a good time. Also with its compact size you’ll won’t tire out and can check the whole place in a hour or 2. From stuffed animals to history in pictures and art stuff like paintings old items etc… , many things to check and enjoy. Occasionally guest exhibitions and organ music makes it unique in a sense.

  • 5/5 N P. 10 months ago on Google
Free entry, fantastic art gallery and museum. Could have spent days! Volunteer staff are fantastic - I recommend dropping your bags off to enjoy the gallery and museum more. Many famous works to see - and I was lucky enough to be in the museum when the organ was played! If I have to make one comment, perhaps an alternative lighting method for Christ of St John of the Cross. Spotlights are too bright!

I think this is one of the most beautiful buildings you spot as a tourist in town, it pulls you in and make you yearn to see more of the city, well atlist it did for me. And if you're an art lover, you'll be stepping I to heaven. There's places to sit, it's en-route of the site seeing bus as a bus stop is just I front of it. A walking distance to the University of Glasgow which is beautiful as well!

  • 5/5 Aditya A. 10 months ago on Google
Absolutely loved this place. Scottish history is showcased on multiple floors, including paintings, weapons, pottery, armour, wildlife. Overall, a 3-4 hour activity, and is located in close proximity to the University of Glasgow which is another place to visit. The museum visit is absolutely free.

  • 5/5 Mardee S. 11 months ago on Google
I cannot praise this museum highly enough. When I first walked in, I had no idea what to expect. And then my jaw dropped open and it pretty much stayed open through the first half hour. It is a wonderful place. And probably has the most eclectic and creative collection of any museum I’ve been in. Bring your kids, too. They will love this place as much as you do. It really is amazing. And the best thing is, it’s free! But I would highly suggest making a donation so that this place can stay around.

If you are interested in learning more about Scotland and Glasgow this is a good starting point. It’s a proud nation and has had a rich history to prove that. It may not be comparable to the museums in terms of size, you found in London, the exhibits are no less significant.

Came here to basically escape the rain in Glasgow for a few hours and so glad we did. Such a brilliant gallery and museum. To my surprise, there was a Spitfire hanging from the roof and for me they didn't need anything else. A fun way to spend an morning, afternoon or full day. Oh, and if you're wondering where the painting of Bonnie Prince Charlie that's displayed on all the Shortbread tins is from.... Look no further.

  • 5/5 Katerina S. 4 months ago on Google
What I loved about the gallery (and museum) was that each hall had a concept that needed to be grasped, and the paintings didn’t follow a chronological order, nor were the artworks split into classics and contemporary art. I loved how every exhibition feels as a natural flow the further you go around the gallery. It was amazing to see such an emphasis on understanding art, looking closer at the details and what the artist has to offer. Kudos to the gallery curators. Highly recommend! And thank you Robert for showing us your favorite Dali painting and the hidden gems within it. :)
