Provand's Lordship is a historic house museum and said to be the oldest house in Glasgow and of medieval origin. There's some pre-printed notes describing the house and it's history, though you'll have to get it yourself as the staff don't mention it. The ground and first have been through a restoration, so contains furnishing to reflect the assumed state. The ground floor has an interesting short documentary about the house and the first has been set up with what the room might have looked like in the days of Canon Cuthbert Simson, 500 years ago. Both the furnishing and restoration are good quality. The second floor is mostly an exhibition of Scottish art related to Glasgow. The gardens are also very nice and set up like one of the uses of gardens centuries ago, as a place to go herbs with medicinal properties. Don't miss the Tontine Heads in the gardens!

Fun place with neat history. I like all the plaques and the video orientation, etc. I do feel like the upstairs space could be used better, and I was disappointed that the gardens were closed. But overall I really enjoyed it. It’s free, but there is a £3 suggested donation.

Nice stop. Good town history-- the only place to explain the town motto.

It is known as the oldest house in Glasgow. You have to be careful because it is not easy to get in there. Ones inside, there's a woman that gives you freedom to walk along the house, it would be better if she explained a bit but well, you were free. Please, remember to access to the garden, is great and beautiful

Provand's Lordship is reputed to be the oldest house in Glasgow, dating from when this was the centre of Glasgow, it's related to the Cathedral next door and would have housed representatives of the church. Mary Queen of Scots and Bonnie prince Charlie are said to have stayed here. The house consists of 3 floors with usually 4 rooms on each floor, the ceilings are low and the door ways lower adding to the olde world feeling. There is a small peaceful garden out back. A must visit place in Glasgow

A must visit place. I was exploring the tourist attraction and initially didn't notice this building. Stepping into the room will give you feel of traveling back to history. The architecture and the wood work is worth giving attention.

If you're interested in old buildings or history, this is a must in Glasgow. Don't be shy to ask for a guide, they'll happily tell you about the building. Also, it's free 😊

Oldest house in Glasgow. We used to pass it every day for years thinking it was something for the tourists but it's not. Tells you a lot about Glasgow and the people who helped shape it. Not just the house and its furniture but the garden at the back. Even though it's at a busy intersection it is very peaceful inside. Best to go late in the day as it's normally quieter.

It's a fine experience to visit this museum. One will be wondering how a house build during the medieval era still standing strong. For the structure build during the 1400's it's quite remarkable restoration work that has been carried out. Worth a visit. The highlight is the kids area on top floor .

It was touching reading the history of the struggle to preserve this historically very important home. They have done a great job recreating the living conditions from over 500 years ago, and I recommend a visit to help support the preservation of the house. The garden is a bonus, with the healing herbs and info signs. (We had a short time here on a cruise ship for the day (docked in Greenock) - we did it on our own and fit in the Necropolis, Glasgow Cathedral, St Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art, Provand's Lordship, the HOHO bus, lunch at George Square and Rick Steves "Glasgow Walk" from his book.)

(Translated by Google) this is the name of the oldest house in Glasgow, dating back to 1471, which used to be a parsonage and can now be visited as a museum for free. It is located in St. Mungo and should definitely be visited because it shows how better posed people lived in the Middle Ages. The thick walls of rubble stone keep the interior cool in summer when we were here, but in winter it is heated only by open fireplaces that provide warmth. Did Mary Stuart live here in 1566? We do not know exactly, but the house is nicely decorated with furniture in the style of that time. Well worth seeing - but today you live more comfortable!

A totally fascinating place. More than almost anywhere else I've been, Provand's Lordship really gives you a sense of what it would have been like to have been living here, hundreds of years ago. So atmospheric, and not 'sanitised' - those floors are uneven and the stairs are slightly scary, which is great: I hate when everything is cleaned up and pretty. Highly recommended.

(Translated by Google) The oldest house of Glasgow dating back to 1471 is definitely worth a visit. An attempt was made to recreate individual rooms and many old pieces of furniture from the last centuries are on display. You have to let the age work on you. Es una casa-museo agradable de visitar. Tiene un pequeño jardín con plantas medicinales. Acceso gratuito.
