Imposing and decorative fountain. Could do with a little clean up but is well framed in it’s surroundings and if you look at the detailing it’s quite a work of art. Not dissimilar to the best works seem abroad in places like Rome. Well worth a visit.

The Doulton Fountain is a large fountain that sits just outside the a the People’s Palace in Glasgow Green. The fountain is reputedly the largest terracotta fountain in the world and was produced by Doulton & Co for the Glasgow Exhibition of 1888. The general theme of the fountain is glory of the British Empire. Queen Victoria stands atop the centre of the fountain to symbolise her reigns over empire. Immediately below her is water carrying maids empty water onto the lower tiers. Below them is a sailor and one soldier from each of Scotland, England and Wales, the source of her glory. On the lowest tier are four groups of figures, to represent the four a major colonies of the empire. Being South Africa, Australia, Canada and India.

Magnificent highly decorative five-tier fountain, it was designed to commemorate the Queen's Golden Jubilee in 1887 and a gift by Sir Henry Doulton to Glasgow. This majestic-looking fountain stands at Glasgow Green in front of the equally ornate People's Palace which houses the city's social history collection. This iconic Beauty is a MUST see if your in Glasgow

Nice relaxing area found in transit to another place. There seems to be a museum there but it was already closed by the time we got there so the park is quiet then. Can't tell if during the day it'll be the buzz in the area.

Loved this place. the green was closed off for a viewing area for the football but that didn't stop us enjoying the area. The fountain was off but it was still beautiful to see. Really nice area in the hustle and bustle of Glasgow. Peaceful beautiful and friendly locals

The Dalton Fountain does look good? But the subject matter of it isn't so good. The dark side of our history? The empire 😏

I was quite shocked by the beauty of the fountain, which no plaque or text put into context. "Look at us westerners as we are civilised and make great art." All in praise of the British colonial empire, ignoring the fate of its countless victims.

It’s an amazing fountain by the artists John Broad, Herbert Ellis, Pearce himself, Frederick Pomeroy, and William Silver Frith, and the design of the fountain was completed by Arthur Edward. This highly decorative, with water falling from the side, five-tier fountain in French Renaissance style was designed to commemorate the Queen's Golden Jubilee in 1887.

This fountain is hardly ever running so it was extra special to see it with water on. Excellent disabled wheel chair user access. This is a must visit. Video attached to this review

This has always been such a lovely part of the East end. I haven't been to see it in a year and it's just heart breaking to see that Glasgow City Council have left it to rot, covered in algae/mould. Such a shame for auch a beautiful and old piece of history

My wife and just love going down to the people's palace on a nice sunny day to have a scone with clotted cream and strawberry jam, The fountain is a highlight each time we visit the Glasgow green, I took my grandchildren when they were very young and they loved seeing all the exhibits in the palace, This was how we taught them about the history of Glasgow. Take a trip soon and find out for yourselves. John and Margaret burns.

A glasgow icon, been visiting this fountain since 1958. Moved from its original position at Glasgow Green entrance arch to its current position outside the people's palace. It is a Victorian jewel. Best seen when the fountain is actually flowing. I am uncertain as to its current state of repair. There's little to cheer us in Glasgow these days. The fountain in full spate on the Green would help.

Quite an impressive fountain, especially when they turn it on. It has some good history to it, and is worth seeing, it's nice in the summer to take a seat and eat your lunch. But you don't go to the green just to see the fountain. It's part of a great number of things to see and experience in the green and it helps make a nice day out.
