The McLennan Arch is on the edge of the Saltmarket entrance to Glasgow Green which is a public park, opposite to the Glasgow High Court. Originally built in the late 1700’s as part of a building on Ingram Street in the city centre, which was then moved to Greendyke Street, before being moved to where it stands now in Glasgow Green.

Iconic arch in a public park without toilets. Bizzare lack of civilization.

A lovely arch at the West-most entrance to Glasgow Green. Historically this arch has been relocated several times during its lifetime, finally finding its final position here (it used to be part of the facade to a club in the Merchant City back in the day). It's an impressive piece of architecture that defines the area and is juxtaposed nicely by the nearby cherry blossoms in early spring.

The McLennan Arch in Glasgow, Scotland is a historic landmark that has stood the test of time for over 150 years. It is a unique structure that has become an iconic symbol of the city's rich history and cultural heritage. Built in 1854, the McLennan Arch was originally a grand entrance to the University of Glasgow, which was located nearby. It was designed by Scottish architect, Charles Wilson, and named after the McLennan family, who were prominent benefactors of the university. The arch is made of sandstone and features a neo-classical design with Greek columns and intricate carvings. It stands 80 feet tall and is 70 feet wide, with a central archway that is large enough to allow for the passage of carriages and other vehicles.

It's very near to Strathclyde students and Glasgow green is like a must visit place for once a week for me now. Best time to visit will be either evening or for morning walk.

Towering at the western entrance to Glasgow Green in front of the High Court is the McLennan Arch, Glasgow's version of the Arc De Triomphe. Great way to enter the Green.

A beautiful spot, the gateway to an unusually verdant expanse of public park by the river. The arch itself is photogenic and leads on to other stylish architecture

It's beautiful fountain. For me, it is worth taking a picture with it. And it is not very far from Kelvinggrove Art Gallery.

The arch is on the edge of the Glasgow Green, a wide urban park quite good for a stroll or to jog

  • 5/5 Alan W. 5 years ago on Google
Presented as Glasgows version of the Arc de Triomphe, it's a little smaller but quite impressive nevertheless. I don't believe Mclennan had much to do with it either only paying for it to be moved. It's also had several homes, it's been moved 3 or 4 times and didn't arrive on Glasgow Green until the 1990s

    Stark and undecorated
