This place is excellent. Well looked after with good informative signage. Keep up the good work Scotland this is a superb example of Roman architecture. We spent a good three quarters of an hour ambling around imagining what it was like and how it all worked, the furnace, the underfloor heating for the sauna, the pool, the drainage and the latrines. What a great example, all in one place. There’s a nice little bench seat under the tree in the top corner of the site. I would highly recommend a visit. Don’t forget to visit the church over the road to view the information about the Roman Fort site. There is also the Antonine Wall base in the cemetery which is 5min away in the car.

When you think this built about 1800 years ago a Roman Bath House and you can see the foundations Structure of the building if your into Roman history its good to to see. The bathhouse is surrounded by luxury flats think this how they discovered it. when doing to building of flats. its worth a visit. would make better tourist attarction if they had couple roman guards on patrol in Summer.

The Antonine wall which ran from Bowling on the Clyde to Grangemouth on the Forth and was a defensive feature effectively splitting Scotland in two was very close to this important historic site. The Romans were well known for their bathhouses and many examples exist in every corner of their empire but this one's in leafy Bearsden and is so readily accessible to anyone.

Nice little bit of Roman history in the middle of Bearsden I didn't know anything about until recently. We arrived at the car park just 1 minutes walk away from the Roman Bath House site. We paid £1 for an hours parking as we knew it wouldn't take to long to go and visit the Roman site. The site itself is well maintained with a nice little bench perched on an elevated grassy incline which is good for a wee seat if its a nice day to take in the scenery. If you are like me and love all things Roman then this is a treat! There is also the base layer of the Antonine wall which is inside a cemetery just 5 mins drive from the Roman Bath House which is worth a visit.

It is surprising what remains after thousand of years. The bathhouse layout is still clearly visible. The whole complex is really surprisingly small and being placed amongst housing blocks slightly out of place.

This ancient ruins of the Antonine Wall is mostly just the stone foundation and lower sections of the wall and bathhouse of one of the forts that once guarded the wall. It’s one of the better remnants of the Roman period in Scotland around the vicinity of Glasgow. The interpretation goes a long way into imagining the site as it was. t's not the most extensive site there is, but plus one for the archaeology and interpretation. I was in Bearsden anyway and I thought I’d take a look.

I visited here, only takes 20minutes to go round it all but worth it to see some roman history in Scotland. Gives you an incite to where the Antoine Wall was. Also visited the Hunterian museum for its Antoine Wall Exibit

Most Antonine Wall sites consist of a few stones or a mound of earth so it's nice to visit one where the remains of quite a large building can be seen. It's across the road from the fort it served, nothing to see there, but you can visit a church garden at the location and read some history boards about it. This site is just what's left of the building: no admission charge, staff, toilets, cafe or gift shop.

An unusual location for a bit of Roman archeology. A lot of imagination is required to see how the bath house would have looked like, as it is a ruin. If you are visiting Glasgow by car and are interested in Roman history in Scotland, definitely worth a visit.

Small but nicely preserved. The layout of the bathhouse practical and modern. Seemed out of place sandwiched by high flats on a busy road.

An okay place to visit. A bit difficult as it is almost private being surrounded by flats and have to enter through the flats. No dogs allowed.

It’s an interesting area of historical relevance, showing where the Romans stayed in Scotland, but it’s not actually very much to see. I think it is right to keep it as it is part of our history, and it’s great to be able to walk to it and see that history, but I would not say it is worth making any kind of special journey to see.

Great piece of history, and to see the pictures made up of how it would have looked back when the Romans where in Bearsden are outstanding, it was as if Julius Caesar and Mark Anthony were there in the bath with me, definitely a very spiritual place and well worth a visit.

  • 4/5 Paul W. 5 years ago on Google
Not a whole lot to see, but these are Scotland's best preserved Roman ruins, so it's as good as it gets this far north. The setting, in the middle of a modern housing estate is a bit unusual!
