I would not recommend. The location is in a nice area and the building is quite nice, but it was not an enjoyable stay at all. Even the location has issues since it's on top of a hill/mountain and a little tough/inconvenient to walk up. Also, not that close to the city center as it's a 30 minute walk. The beds/mattresses were terrible. The mattresses were either very old or very cheap. They're spring mattresses and you felt every coil poke you as you moved. There was no support and I had difficulties sleeping. The staff told me that one or two mattresses may have not been changed, but the issue was experienced by all of my roommates. The beds were made of a wooden frame which easily shook when someone moved. There were no privacy curtains to the beds either. No power outlets anywhere. In the bedroom, there was only one outlet in the entire room and everyone had to charge their devices on one strip. The worse part is that there were 6 people to the room and only 4 plugs. Very inconvenient if you need to charge in your bed. The dining room also didn't have a single outlet. The internet barely worked. It progressively got worse every day of my stay. At first it booted you off every hour and made you log in again. The next day it was every 10-15 minutes. When I checked out, it was every 5 minutes. I told reception and they made a note for the IT guy instead of trying to reset the internet themselves. Even when it was working, far too many websites were blocked and the web filter was too restrictive. Even though the building had many nice common areas, the hostel didn't do any events for the residents. There were no happy hours, no cheap group dinners, or game/trivia nights to bring people together. This was one of the most anti-social hostels that I have stayed at. I wouldn't recommend this place at all. It's just very poorly managed and it feels like ownership is just trying to make easy money without putting any effort or reinvesting back into the facilities. I found it even stranger that they were renting out their larger dining room for external corporate events. It just showed their only goal was to make as much money and not for their residents satisfaction.

You certainly can’t tell that this is a hostel. Historic building with amazing woodwork and really comfortable, clean rooms. It also boasts the cleanest and most organized kitchen area we’ve ever seen in a hostel. They have four chef stoves with plenty of utensils and dishware and pots and pans. They also have a dining room that’s huge and spotless. We were there at the beginning of Covid, and anytime anybody sat at a table, the moment they got up somebody darted in to disinfect the table. I really can’t say enough good things about this experience. If you like hostels, you’ll love this one. We get private rooms and they are totally worth it if you were traveling with a partner. The staff is also incredibly accommodating. Would happily return.

Had a lovely stay at the gorgeous #GlasgowYouthHostel accommodation last weekend. Located in a fabulous Victorian townhouse overlooking the beautiful #KelvingrovePark this was an awesome experience! The place is at walking distance to the award-winning Kevingrove Art Gallery & Museum giving me, a student of art, ample opportunity to visit the museum at my leisure! Amazing choice for individual travellers, like me wanting to explore the city on a student’s budget. Special shout out to Kier and Graem at the reception, so warm n welcoming! Loved it so much, I’m coming back for sure! 💟🙌🏼☮️

This was a beautiful place to stay! The room and bathrooms were clean, the beds were comfortable, not to mention the view is wonderful. I can’t speak to the cleanliness of the kitchen; I only used it to fill my water a couple of times. The lockers were the largest I’ve encountered in a hostel, which was so nice. I was able to fit both my suitcase and my backpack inside, and there was still extra room. Now, I will say, this hostel is not very accessible for anyone with mobility issues. There are stairs everywhere, and I do mean everywhere. My room was on the top floor, and there were several flights of stairs to climb, and as far as I’m aware, no lift. The hostel is also situated at the top of a rather large hill, so if you’re treading on foot, be prepared for a climb. I also wish the showers had a bit more space for storing toiletries, there was only one hook for a single towel, and there were no shelves/stools in the shower to set items down. Besides this, I had an excellent time at this hostel and walked away with a couple of new friends as well. I didn’t spend much time in the common areas, as I was out and about, but they were spacious and comfortable-looking. There was lots to do nearby, including the botanical gardens and Kelvingrove Museum, and great restaurant options as well. I would stay again.

Beautiful hostel right next to the park, but a bit far from the city centre except if you take the bus (7 min walk to the nearest bus stop). Beautiful common areas, but it is more of a familial hostel. The kitchen and dining area is pretty big so everyone fits. It is pretty quiet and does not have the typical hostel atmosphere. I stayed twice and one of the person working recognized me, which was nice. I would recommend for quiet travellers!

I have slept a lot in different hostels during my travels but this one is incredible! The hostel is really nice and very well located. The room was clean and very big! The guy at the reception during the night shift ( 22/09 - 23/09) was really really welcoming! He is happy to help you and give you tips about the city! I really recommend this place! :)

I came to Glasgow as a student without accommodation and the hostel was able to host me until I found my own place. Staff was incredible! Friendly and always trying to help. Very nice atmosphere in the building and easy to make friends with other guests. The self catering kitchen was great and there is a good system in place to store your own food and label it.

Staff - friendly and welcoming Room - comfortable bunk beds, with clean beddings Location - easy to reach most of the tourists places from here. Cleanliness - the basic hygiene that we a customer wants regarding the washrooms, corridors, kitchen, lobby area was spot on. Ample of board games to play. The stay was worth to boast about to friends and colleagues. Already mouth publicity has been done to my friends who are planning to visit Glasgow. 💪🏻😉 Thank you, to all the members of staff for such a wonderful experience. Keep up the good work .. Taking backing with me good memories and a few friends whom I met in the rooms.

My daughter and I spent the night. Our welcome couldn’t have been more friendly despite being half an hour early and the member of staff due to go off. He took the time to register us and share some local knowledge. We loved the location. It gave us quick access into town and the west end as well as only 20 mins walk to the OVO hydro to see Noah Kahan. Team in the morning were equally welcoming on reception and took time to engage. What an asset they all are. Great location. Very clean. We’ll definitely be back and spread the word that it’s a great friendly destination. Thanks all 👏

Didn't spend much time in the hostel, was just a place to stay before an early flight. Is only about 20 minutes away from the airport. Nice neighbourhood with some restaurant options nearby. Stayed in a private room. The room was clean; shower area is a bit small so keep that in mind.

Sorry to say this was the worst hostelling experience I’ve ever had. The building is enormous and run very impractically. Despite there being very few people there in the off season they still put everyone on the very top floor and there’s no lift… Though it’s called the “Youth Hostel” I only met/saw 3 other young travellers during my stay, the other guests were all elderly. Definitely doesn’t cater to backpackers! At one point I felt quite uncomfortable, bordering on unsafe, in my dorm room. To the staff’s credit they gave me a key to another room. The staff were friendly - that was the only redeeming feature. That being said, Glasgow is a great city to visit and there aren’t any good hostel options unfortunately. IF with a group in your own room this hostel might work for you.

the heater in our room didn't work water in the shower was extremely low pressure the room was acceptable, but not super clean. we ordered a double bed but got two single beds that would slide away from each other, the single bids were smaller single size, not satisfying. there is a bit of a walk to catch public transportatoin. otherwise, the building is great, I loved the staircase and decoration. Staff is really nice and helpful.

Nice hostel in a victorian house. Rooms are okay. Good atmosphere, big kitchen and enough fridges to use. Kids loved the table-tennis.

Good location, safe community. But the water pressure in the toilet and bathroom is quite low, making cleaning difficult 🥲. Besides, the quilt may not have been properly cleaned, causing our skin to appear allergic to itchiness😔.

This was a welcome oasis! Right on the edge of college town, huge great park out the back door, great museum, without the hassle of being Right downtown. Staff were friendly and helpful, cabs to city centre are cheap. Showers are shoe box sized but that's the only complaint. Great place, I recommend!

A safe and friendly place to stay. Staff were all very helpful. They gave you a free, fresh towel when you arrive. There was plenty of common areas to chill in. It was clean and the showers were warm. Only two negative aspects were that it was a little pricey, and quite a walk from the city centre.

Great hostel in the middle of the city. Not sure how they managed to get this beautiful building, dead-centre and in the fanciest neighborhood I’ve seen in a long time (there was a Rolls-Royce parked in front of the door), but it definitely gives you the feeling of being a wealthy traveler on his/her way to some kind of secret society meeting. The interior is less inclined to render this feeling (could use some work here and there), but nevertheless a comfortable experience.

Lovely hostel in a very grand building. Staff were really helpful and the tea and coffee in reception was a life-saver. The pay & display parking wasn't ideal but considering the location, which is on a peaceful road overlooking a park and very central in Glasgow, it's a pretty minor concern. I hope to have the opportunity to visit again.

Location was great, nice quiet neighbourhood. Lovely building and the park is right across the street - great for morning walks. The room was clean and the staff was so nice and helpful. The breakfast was average but good for a quick meal. The bed was very hard but that’s the only negative.

Good thing is that you will get en-suite toilet/bathroom. They usually give room on 3rd floor and if you have heavy luggage than it might be trouble for you. Overall neat and clean place.

Very good hostel, clean rooms with comfortable beds and had a brilliant view from my room over Kelvingrove park. Would definitely recommend it!

Great location, great room, great facilities. Everything is now reopened after COVID including the guest kitchen. On a hillside above Kelvingrove Park in a converted period mansion. My third (or fourth?) stay here, I'll be back again sometime.

Fantastic service, rooms were what you'd expect from a hostel. Nice games room and communal areas. Would recommend

A big 3-storey hostel without elevator. Do not opt for dorms if u hv heavy luggage, or else u will hv to climb up to 3rd floor. Kitchen is at the basement. Pretty long way to go & make yrself a cup of tea for those occupying 3rd floor. Like seriously, the hostel management should think about putting elevator. Its an important necessity for guests. Anyway, the hostel is located at a safe neighborhood so on street parking is not an issue. Its quiet as well.

It's a hostel so you get what you expect tbh but the walls are super thin and the door didn't lock in room 215, as two girls that was scary when we could hear big groups of men coming in at 3am. Very overpriced for what you get, you even have to take your own sheets down at check out. I'd say £10 less per person would be acceptable

Located right at the top of the hill, it will be a slightly difficult climb for some, but you will be rewarded with a nice view of the city. The only complaint is that there isint bedside plugs, but the kitchen is great and the lounge is superb

You might not get travel vibes in this hostel as the majority of people who stay there are just looking for a long term accommodation, be it students or workers. Location wise it's a bit far from the city centre, and the closest convenience store is about a 10 minute walk. Lockers aren't electric; so I assume you have to bring your own padlock.

Still my go-to place for cheap accommodation in Glasgow after several years. Basic but comfortable, with friendly staff and great local amenities. Just a quick subway ride from the city centre.

I love staying in this hostel as it's in such a great location and it's a stunning building. Ideal for city and west end. Getting a bit pricey though when compared to alternatives.

I was recommended by another traveler in Inverness to stay at this hostel in Glasgow. Normally I avoid hostels because you lose privacy, sleep, often have to deal with dirty premises, and with people who don’t clean up after themselves. But, decided to stay here for one night and what a treat!! Absolutely welcoming staff, clean premises, private bathrooms, and amazing coffee! Not to forget the park it overlooks and the building itself. Although I stayed just for a night, it felt like the place attracts a much more mature crowd than regular hostels. No late night noises or loud music or people coming back drunk. I’m sure this is because of the staff’s presence on the premises through the late hours. All they need is a curtain for the bunks and it’ll be the most cosy place ever. If only all hostels were like this 🥺

Nice staff, good facilities, but I was given a room at the very back end which was scary & creepy especially if you have claustrophobia or mild anxiety & the place was too quiet. Not crazy about the location as it's far from the city centre.

Brilliant stay at Glasgow Youth Hostel. Staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was comfortable and the location was excellent.

Perfect to use as a base while going round Glasgow. Don't think this is a hotel, there's no TVs or kettles in the room - it's a hostel! If you get the bus out from the city centre, make sure you get the 4/4a like the hostel suggests. I walked up from a bus stop on Sauchiehall Street after getting the 77 and could've done with CPR at the top of the hill! I'll certainly be back to this hostel in the future!
