What
possessed
me
to
pass
on
the
wealth
of
budget
hotels
in
Glasgow
and
plump
for
this
place?
Well,
Friday
and
Saturday
in
Glasgow
can
be
party
time
and
I
thought
I'd
try
and
find
something
quieter.
The
reviews
of
City
Center
(sic)
Rooms
made
it
sound
OK
and
the
price
was
comparable
with
the
average
budget
hotel.
Unfortunately,
nothing
else
was.
What
a
horrible
dump.
I
have
no
idea
where
the
other
reviewers
stayed
but
it
was
a
different
place
from
the
one
I
found,
as
I
think
that
my
photographs
clearly
show.
Approached
through
an
insanitary
communal
corridor,
with
damaged
electrical
fittings
hanging
from
the
ceiling
and
strewn
with
refuse
bags,
passing
other
anonymous
doors
with
broken
and
boarded-up
panels,
the
apprehension
rises.
The
main
door
to
the
accommodation
is
painted
black
and
is
ill-fitted
to
the
frame.
The
owner
-
a
pleasant
woman
herself
-
met
me,
gave
me
the
keys
and
showed
me
to
the
room,
inviting
me
to
leave
a
review
when
I
returned
home.
Here
goes...
The
room
is
a
dump.
Mushroom-coloured
walls
with
sagging
paper
and
a
big
hole
to
the
world
outside
(shown
in
one
of
my
photographs)
momentarily
distract
from
the
plug-in
"pest
repeller"
but
as
I
settled
in,
the
stains
on
the
walls,
the
cruddy
carpet
-
I
kept
my
boots
on
at
all
times
I
was
on
the
carpet
-
the
wobbly
furniture,
the
dust
and
the
general
disrepair
gradually
began
to
overwhelm.
The
bed
itself
was
rock
hard
and
lumpy
but
forget
a
decent
night's
sleep,
for
the
room
is
directly
above
the
busiest
night-life
section
of
Sauchiehall
Street.
This
would
not
be
a
problem
if
there
were
proper
double-glazing
but,
of
course,
there
isn't...
There
is
pitiful,
cheap
secondary
glazing
and
a
curtain
which
will
only
cover
half
the
window.
Light
streams
in
from
the
streetlights
below.
This
would
be
impossible
in
summer.
It
is
about
0
degrees
outside
at
night.
Does
the
heating
come
on?
No.
It
is
freezing
cold.
Add
to
that
a
shower
which
won't
stay
in
the
one
place,
a
toilet
which
doesn't
flush
properly
and
a
host
of
nagging
signs
and
'house
rules'
and
you
have
one
miserable
experience.
This
is
an
absolute
rip-off.
Avoid.
You
have
been
warned.
