Lovely cafe and had a huge cake. Definitely I'm going back again. But the coffee was not that great to be honest. The bag of taking away was not sturdy so it was ripped on the way to home so we lost a piece of raspberry cake. We'll go for the cake again lol 🥹

Local it self looks lovely and welcoming. Unfortunately I can’t say the same thing about the staff. After 20 min of waiting we had to call a waiter on our own. Coffee was average, nothing special. We won’t be back.

The soup was great but the portion sizes were shocking for the price and the cakes are underwhelming. The red velvet tasted of nothing and the pistachio croissant had far too much filing to me enjoyable. The waitress was cold and unhelpful.

Went in for a coffee, people were nice and service was good. I sat outside but inside looked pretty decent. I've not eaten here yet but will update when I do, the menu looked good for breakfast, decent selection of salads and focaccia sandwiches

Very disappointed with everything. The service was awful, the coffee was ?? Was it coffee?? And the brick they described as raspberry cake was revolting. I believe this used to be a highly rated popular establishment, though that was 2 years ago, before covid. Don’t know how or why it has deteriorated so much. I would not recommend this eatery and I certainly won’t be going back. (It got one star as the seat by the window was nice and warm and I could look out at the traffic.

Really disappointed - have been here for years and noticed service and quality declining. Today I was over charged - £14.75 for one pot of tea and a stuffed pepper. The pot was put into three takeaway cups and filled with water yet charged for 3 teas. The waitress asked the manager "should i charge for 3 teas even though it was one" ....it only really sunk in when we tasted the watered down tea and we feel annoyed and ripped off. I don't generally write negative reviews...but similar has happened here a few times now....so hopefully their service/attitude will change if people write honest reviews

Went in for coffee on Thursday night at 7.55pm and was refused to be served because they said it closed at 9pm. Why was that ?It doesn't take over an hour to drink a cup of coffee, and they already had customers in having coffee. I was also in a few weeks prior to this and the staff was quite rude as if they couldn't be bothered to serve so I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

The decor is very busy, OTT and seating very uncomfortable...the food clumsy and meh but there's nothing better in the area

Had way better coffee elsewhere. Porridge was tasty although drowning in honey and the topping of "fruit" was a few grapes which was an odd combination.

The scone was dry and crumbly and an extra butter ,( only 1 was served) was 50p. Shame, the scones are always dry and crumbly, I should learn or go elsewhere.

Big variety food and desert . Nice robust coffee . Cake didn't taste quite fresh or perhaps was my bad luck :)

Visited Kothel yesterday, very disappointed with customer service, after complaining that our scones were in fact dry and stale tasting. Told by manager that no one else had complained!!!! Won’t be back If you want to see what a decent scone tastes like try Wee Lochan just along the road Staff very pleasant, and you would certainly never be dismissed in the way we were.

Great coffees. Not a ton of indoor seating. Had to sit our party outside. Food was delicious. Staff was lovely.

I love the unique interiors of the kothel cafes, each seems so carefully put together to make a very attractive and artistic setting for the most delicious food. Dog friendly, which gets my approval every time. A comfortable and informal are outside ,protected from a busy road with planting. This is an intimate destination for breakfast ,lunch, casual drink and cake, I defy anyone not to go back for another taste from this wonderfully friendly eatery, after a first visit. It is a firm favourite of mine. A hidden gem of Glasgow.

1st time we have been there and it was lovely. Just so relaxing and the lentil soup was delicious, had a wee kick to it. We didn't have any of the cakes, but they also looked delicious, was full up after lunch.

Very nice cafe. Food is reasonably priced, delicious and presented well on the plate, as is the coffee.

Kothel is always busy when I go past and as I had time on my hands, so I went for a coffee and cake. Service was friendly. The coffee arrived and it was very good. The cake, not so good. It was a bit dry and past it's best. Perhaps understandable as they are stored uncovered all day.

Came for lunch with a friend. Inside the interiors are tastefully decorated with lots of rustic wood panelling in a mixture of hipster, country (as in and western) and trendy bar. The lighting is muted which actually complemented the dark wood panels. We ordered a vegetarian platter for two and it was really nice, a little like a cold platter of cooked Mediterranean vegetable hor d’oeuvres. I also got a vegan chocolate cake which was surprisingly nice because I don't normally like vegan cakes as the texture feels wrong. The latte I had tasted great and very smooth.

Having been to the one on great Western road and loved, we decided to give this a go. For a Friday afternoon it was very busy. Food was great, coffee, place

What a lovely café! Hands down one of the most beautifully decorated one I have visited in the UK. If you like a good vintage atmosphere, that's for you! We went there for coffee and had waffles with honey and fruits with coffees. If was very lovely, would recommend to tourists visiting Glasgow ?

A lovely little cafe. Service is great with friendly staff.

Looks trendy however it doesn't offer the most comfortable seating arrangements. I think it's going for the hipster vibe too much and not the practicalities for customers. I'd cover the cakes on the counter as it puts me off purchasing any because I think too much about people breathing, coughing, sneezing or accidentally spitting on them ?

Really atteactive place - nice coffee. The service is horrendous. 15 mins in queue to order a coffee - another 15 mins to arrive. Staff completely disorganised. Milling around - one minute taking an order then disappearing with a tray etc. To sum up - shambolic!!. Pity because it is a nice place.

Terrible if you have any allergies. They can't prevent contamination in the their kitchen. Even their soup and salads may contain contaminates from the rest of the menu.

  • 3/5 TangueroNoir 4 years ago on Google
This is a vibrant corner cafe in the west end of Glasgow with an idiosyncratic and very personal feel. I'd have given it four stars had the coffee and food been a little bit above average. The seating is varied - everything between high stools with narrow table tops and easy chairs so the space is interesting. It's usually very busy but, in spite of this, the staff are friendly and patient.

A lot of wheat based ingredients but enough choice for those who would rather not or don't consume wheat products.

I love Kothel so much! It has the perfect atmosphere and really good coffee. They have a vast range of cakes and dishes. The drinks are nice but I wish they still sold cherry cola. Overall Kothel is my favourite cafe and I would definitely recommend going there!
