PLEASE DO NOT support this club. I came up to Glasgow as an early birthday treat to see my friend. When we were in the queue and tried to enter the club, an extremely arrogant and rude bouncer randomly selected myself and my friend and told us we were not allowed in for being ‘too drunk’. Considering my friend had not even been drinking and I had only had a couple earlier in the night, this was completely unwarranted. I saw quite a few other people in the same situation and no one could understand why they were being talked down to when they had already pre paid their tickets and were not in an ‘unfit state’. I have seen similar reviews about this and I really think management should speak to their bouncer and fire him. It’s clearly a capacity issue within the club, but we had all already bought our tickets. I’ve been left really frustrated by this experience and I do not recommend this club to anyone who wants to have a good night with their friends.

Unbelievably disappointed. Entry was over 11 quid and pre booked ticket only, go buy two drinks, dance with my girlfriend for less than an hour. A bouncer comes into the the dance floor and tells me I have to leave and takes me outside, completely unwarranted. Girlfriend also had to leave after paying 11 quid. Would not recommend.

Unbelievably immature young ginger haired Scotch lad of a bouncer. Myself & My Work Colleague (a man of colour) just arrived to Glasgow on a flight from Ireland, checked into hotel and went straight to this club to vibe to the DJ that was playing last night. Young lad "bouncer/doorman" who thinks he is a tough man asked did we know what was happening in the place tonight..we did indeed...as we know & respect the DJ that was playing....the young ginger lad mistakenly informed us that we were too drunk and to call back in half an hour...unfortunately we didnt have the pleasure of a drink having arrived straight from work...healthcare workers.....Needless to say I informed him we wouldnt be back and he agreed with me that he was a racist while appearing to have had enjoyment out of his actions. From a fellow Irish to a Scot...I am beyond disgusted. An apology would be beneficial, however, not expected. That young lad would bring shame to Scotland never mind to a nightclub & his work colleagues, bless his wee cotten socks.

UPDATE MAR 2022: Gave Sub Club another go, went to GERD JANSON night on 19th February, given all this fuss about the guy. I’m still at a complete loss regarding the music policy, honestly. Place heaving again, I really do think the crowd here will go bananas at absolutely any overhyped bland rubbish, banging the ceiling and chanting to the pattern of the dull, ordinary music. And the whole thing is pushed at you like it’s the best of electronic music, which actually irritates me because this is not anything of the sort. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Sub Club on Saturday was completely overcrowded. Bouncers really arrogant at door, one of them was rude to my friend and was staring later on in night, looking for opportunities to throw people out I think. Place full of the usual types too, is the Sub Club not meant to be cool etc, full of bams. The music was awful, I really don’t get its reputation for that at all, have thought it grossly overrated musically every time I’ve been. Don’t get this commitment to these two jokers dj’ing on a Saturday in Sub Club, the wee old guy can’t mix and the other geezer in the baseball cap isn’t much better. Thought it was meant to be innovative and all that but don’t seem to have had a new idea in the 30 years we keep hearing it’s been around. And I still think that Sub Club crowdfunding stinks.

Paid for a ticket and was randomly selected to leave by a member of staff. Was told we seemed too drunk despite the fact we had only a few drinks between us and as we were being told to leave was the first time this staff member had even glanced at us. They blamed it all on one person in the group who was “too drunk” but was also the only one of us who was let back in. Very clearly had gone over capacity and were just kicking out the first people they saw.

Music was terrible, same song played for over an hour “if you can call that a song” had 2 double jack daniels & didn’t even get a dunt must be watered down to almost no alchohol, myself & my girlfriend spent nearly £40 on entry & drinks then left after 70mins as wasn’t very good at all unfortunately, wasted night, definitely won’t be back.

Visited last night to see Ewan DJ who was brilliant, I was disgusted over hearing staff taking about, if we can throw some more people out of the club we can get some more people in that didn't have tickets, who are paying more on the door.

Despite being thrown out because a guy next to me asked for K and I obliged and then the security caught me, which I don’t think is a big deal, I’ll still rate the place 4 stars, for its music and overall vibe.

Great spot for great, techno /house music, Bouncers friendly, expensive to get in, caught the staff not mixing my drink, serving me just coke, no rum.

dangerous. They allow people to drink in glasses. Someone threw a glass straight at my head and i had to go to the ER for it. Club management did nothing

Was in last Friday (9/9) had a great night, the wee bams ahead of me in the queue getting a knock back was a personal highlight of the night

Best club in the UK. Subculture is without doubt the best house night you will ever experience. Drinks are great, sound system is immense and staff are all good.

Staff are ridiculous. they spent 15mins arguing with some guys in the queue then had the cheek to charge us entry. we had free entry before half 11 and the tickets stated be in the venue before then. I was and the staff chose to argue with 3 guys for 15mins instead of letting us in. absolute joke of a place. when told we have been in the venue for 15mins the reply we got was you should have came earlier. absolute zero customer service skills.

  • 5/5 Jason S. 5 years ago on Google
Yes the bouncers are a bit over inquisitive but it means a distinct lack of bams. Tunes are always brilliant.

(Translated by Google) A friendly bouncer until he read on our ID that we were French. He then immediately refused us saying we had drunk too much. Same observation as for the Garage. But apparently, we are not the first to whom this happens. A fuir

I wanted to go to the subclub for years and finally after going I wasn't disappointed. Had a great night, i get why the bouncers ask you what's on to keep the riff raff out. One of the bar men was a bit of a bell end but overall it was grand.

Awesome vibes, great club. A true gem. Their door policy is the best. "Why are you here?" Perfect question. I always tell my friends about this place and the bouncer and the rumour about how the only fight ever to break out in the place was met by the dancers being so offended they took it upon themselves to throw the perpetrators themselves out the doors and into traffic. Staff hadn't needed to a thing. Who knows if it's true. Legend. Wish I lived in Glasgow for vibes like this.

Entry fee £25 quid way over priced, smells in there. Bartender got our order wrong then refused to swap it , the music system is spot on but we'll worth staying away people.

Got quizzed intensively on the door but being a powerful sith getting in was never in question, a nice crowd, mostly blokes having a bop. I'll definitely go again next time I'm up from London... I saw a person who appeared to have an orange for a head across the other side of the club, but they left before I managed to catch up with them!

Got to the front door the bad teeth (some of them are missing ) security staff said "show id" as I showed Id the bouncer then said (without looking at said id) "I'm not letting you in as I reckon you're probs trouble" . And he ruin my new year eve. Even I paid on online and had a ticket. Guy just told me he checks in camera and told me I did trouble before. It’s totally lie. That guy looks like crack head , probably that night he smoke a lot of crack that’s why he told me i reckon you . I won’t go back... stay away from this dirty place is not worth

Used to be my favourite club but after a disgraceful experience from management and their stance regarding customer safety and harm reduction, I won't be returning ever again. On a cold winter night last year I was in the club with a few friends, went up to the bar to get a round in and was approached by a member of staff who asked me to come with them so I bemusedly followed asking what was up until I was walked to the door and told I needed to sober up before I would be let back in. Was pretty surprising to say the least seeing as I wasn't really that drunk, intoxicated sure, but not causing any issues; I happily to admit that I've been in much worse states in the past. Anyway that wasn't really the issue I had, I appreciate the need to remove people from the club if they're causing issue, however after trying to speak with the bouncers I was told I needed to 'go for a walk' and come back in a while. Now I don't need to tell you how terrible that is to advise someone who potentially could be in a bad state to go off BY THEMSELVES in what was no doubt below freezing at 2am. Talk about harm reduction, you'd hope that nightclub management would be far more careful from previous tragedies such as in the Arches. Absolutely disgraceful for a club like subbie to have such a stance, can't imagine what would happen if they told someone who was in a really bad state to go off by themselves into freezing cold Glasgow with little more than a t-shirt (I wasn't allowed to get my jacket from the cloakroom). Such a shame for once was a legendary club

Great club. Amazing DJ's with great music and awesome sound quality. Friendly bar staff. No problems with the other guests either here - just good vibes. Not the cheapest bar though. Security keep the people who aren't there for the music out.

    nice club

  • 1/5 John H. 3 years ago on Google
Took donations from over 3000 of their customers to save the Subby when in actual fact they have a director in their company who has a £500m net worth and could of easily funded it all himself. But they chose to mess around their lifelong fans, customers and take their cash. Reputation ruined. Used to be the best club in Glasgow.

It's a good place, but it's very dangerous outside. Yesterday was my first day in Glasgow, and we've been attacked by 5 people. 1 girl 4 boys. So we had to leave the place.

(Translated by Google) I have traveled a lot and have been to very good techno clubs all over the world and I have to say the sub club is one of the top addresses! Every time a very good line up, a more than outstanding system, cool design and more than friendly counter staff and bouncers. I highly recommend every techno lover to visit this club when visiting Scotland!

It is without a doubt THE BEST club in Glasgow. I've been coming here since student days of lore 22 years ago... And will continue to fir years to come. Why?... because it is not your designer shirt and shiny shoe kinda place or designer trainer for that matter either, but if that floats your boat then you will - shock horror- still be Iet in. Because its not about how you dress, it's about whether you appreciate the MUSIC. And the guys on the door tend to have a good nose for this and haven't lost it over the last few decades. You will find all ages here, as the sound system is phenomenal, the best in Glasgow - nay - the UK. In fact I'll have you know it is a well noted and respected club on the European clubbing scene. I can't I'm afraid describe the music as I'm not on 'fleek' with music genres so apologies if I'm way off the mark - but it's along the lines of house/garage/trance/dance/rave/drum and bass. You will no doubt still find clips or even full sessions on Soundcloud or the subclub website somewhere to give you a clearer idea. If you're into the commercial top 40 chart, 100000to the power of10bpm music, dancing round handbags (or KO ing people with your handbag) in 20inch heels - then stay away - you won't like it and neither will the people who's toes you've just impaled. Even if you are a member of the above gang and still appreciate deep soul and heart thudding bass (occasionally funky - depends on the nights DJ) music then you're still welcome! As long as your not off your t**s as you won't get in and you promise not to heel impale or knock people out with your handbag ? P. S yes, the clientele and music has difffered slightly over the years because times move on... But I stand by the above statement as no other place has ever matched it... ?

This is absolutely one of the best venues in the country! DJs Harri and Domenick use to play over there weekly, Black Madonna, Peggy Gou, Palms trax and George Fitzgerald use to have gigs over there along the year. But here comes an ADVISE: keep in mind the name of the host DJ and buy your tickets as early bird, not only to get a lower price, but also because the security may impeach your entry if you don't consider you have the profile of the someone who comes to these sort of night life. Have a great time :)
