Close to public transport and parking outside.

Had not heard of the tours of the GMRC until I stumbled across a link online so booked onto a tour. Had Grant as our guide who took us through a few rooms of paintings, fossils and taxidermy and he had a great knowledge of the different items he was showing us. We were asked at the start if there was anything in particular we wanted to see but as we didn't know what was on offer we were happy to be shown anything. So if you do have a specific interest in something, you'll be able to request that room ☺️. All in all, it was a very interesting afternoon, something different and I will book back up again to look at some other rooms.

Very much a behind the scenes of other Glasgow Museums. Folks should book ahead detailing what they want to see. Great staff.

Shocking place, having spent over an hour driving to get there, to be told you have to pre book. basically the staff didn't care, Calling itself a Museum is a discrace.

I went there as a parent helper, and found myself asking questions ¦~]. Very interesting for the children, just wished it could of been a day trip rather than a morning. Staff were brilliant keeping the children in line and getting them involved.

If the tour schedule suits you, its is definitely worth the visit. Friendly staff, fantastic facility and great family events. Walk from the station is grim at best, but still very convenient if you can handle picking across the mud

The Museums Resource Centre is essentially a big warehouse for all the items in the Glasgow Museums collections which are not currently on display in one of Glasgow's museums. Visits are by arrangement, and if you can I recommend asking for a visit focussed on an area which particularly interests you. I have visited twice, once with a focus on the maritime collections. If you like ship models, you will need all your time to wander round the storeroom which houses these - there are just so many and the range is wide. Or maybe you like what as kids we referred to as the "Stuffies" the examples of the taxidermists' art - what ids at Kelvingrove is just a fraction of the collection - GMRC has a lot more stacked floor to ceiling. The Art collection is stored on huge pull out double sided frames, so you can see everything arts and all - and mind boggling it is. Don't pass up a chance to visit this. Please leave a like.

Excellent museum venue, allowing tours of various pods which house Glasgow's museum artefacts & paintings when they aren't in exhibition.

Fascinating place; not widely known. Excellent guide, knowledgeable and entertaining. Think more visits would be needed to do the place justice.

Just loved this "hidden gem". Place itself fascinating and our guide (Grant) was both knowledgeable and entertaining. Would recommend doing a little research before a visit, just to get a broad idea of what sort of exhibits are stored there, as - due to the volume of artifacts - it's simply not possible to see everything (probably not even in two or three visits). Thoroughly recommended.

A very under rated place which has lots of fun activities for children and adults. They also conduct experiments and research for the good of our natural environment.

Worth a visit, but for single pod , rooms e.g. art or models, taxidermy. General tour was a bit of a rush. Good guide..Billy

It turns out that Glasgow has it's own relic warehouse where they might even be hiding their own Ark of the Covenant! I would highly recommend visiting the Museums Resource Centre as I went for pre-booked hour session on a Wednesday afternoon but the amount of curious artefacts and catalogued items will not leave you disappointed. Actually, members of the tour group were disappointed as an hour felt far too short to explore but then again the GMRC houses over 1.1 million objects from around the world so doing it all in one afternoon might be a bit of a challenge! It's definitely interesting and our guide was also very accomodating. This hidden hub in Nitshill certainly has a lot to offer!

Great hidden gem, worth checking out if you can get in and get a tour

  • 5/5 james f. 1 year ago on Google
Over 1.4m artifacts held in storage for Glasgow museums. They do a bookable tour each Wednesday. Well worth a visit as only 2% of all artifacts make.into the main Glasgow museums.

Fascinating tour with top museum curator. Close up views of parts of the humongous collection. Varied group, many quite knowledgeable. And it's free.

It's like the end of the Indiana Jones movie in Area 51...a vast store of artifacts. Sadly all untouchable (we're too corrosive) or in locked cages but, with the aid of one of the knowledgeable guides, all very interesting. Too large to see all of it in an hour so we'll have to go back.

Need to contact the museum for a tour but thousands of objects to see that rarely get a public viewing. Knowledgeable staff and lots to see.

Customer service of reception staff, absolutely disgusting, having driven and hour to get the event my nearly 5 year old was turned away, by a rude man as he was not yet 5, we later rang a education manger who said it is fine for him to attend.
