When visiting cathedral and necropolis, take a look in this museum as it is located nearby with free entrance. It is providing interesting information on all major religions across the globe. How they are united how they are different all accompanied with typical religious objects. Also small garden offers a touch of harmony.

One of my favorite experiences of Scotland. The museum is well maintained and pretty informative! The weeping angels made me chuckle!

As the name of the museum suggests, the museum is very much focused on religious life and art. I half expected the focus to be on Christian art, but there example of art from all the world's major religions and well as less well known ones, including those from antiquity. There's also a good sized cafe at the selling food and drinks at very reasonable prices by museum standards. The museum is absolutely worth visiting.

I stumbled upon this museum after leaving the Glasgow Cathedral and what a wonderful surprise it was. You enter after walking by a Zen garden. It is much larger than it appears and is staffed by a lovely group of individuals. Admission is free, represents a wide selection of religions and has some good children’s activities. The view from the top floor is spectacular and a wonderful place to take a photo or two.

Simply loved it, it's small but full of really interesting facts and religions history. I personally learned a few things about religions that I had no idea. It's not focused on one religion but the 6 main ones are exposed, also some facts about minor religions and believes from all over the world. Loved it! 😍

Great look into the Glasgow's police history. You have to know that it's there to find it. There is a lift and disabled access but it's a bit of a squeeze but the staff were were very willing to help and very knowledge.

Near Glasgow Cathedral and the Necropolis, this lovely little museum is set on three floors. It includes history and artefacts of the main religions and is very interesting. It includes a shop, cafe and a beautiful, small Zen garden. One would need a deeper regard for religion than I to really appreciate it. Certainly, though, if in the area it's worth a visit. Note: Just across the street is the 'oldest house in Glasgow' (see pic).

Sobering, but so important. Beside the sole surviving Catholic Church (now Protestant), we have a very-needed reminder of the joys of loving our neighbors, and the gut-rending evils that follow any other approach.

I would go for a 3.5 but no option. It is something you can check out in a few minutes and the toilet is a great addition considering the cathedral near by or necropolis have none. So add it to those visits combine :) maybe if you are religious it will be a better visit for you.

I have an interest in Japanese gardens and in particular Zen gardens. While the basic form of the garden is there. The whole purpose of Zen is the dutiful daily attention to the smallest of details in maintaining the original designers ideas. This Zen garden is disgrace to the thought of mindfulness care and attention. There are weeds everywhere and the grass is weed ridden. There was rubbish and debris lying about. This was a major disappointment for me having travelled through from Perth. I could also see many Asian visitors who must also have also thought OMG ?

Fascinating museum of all faiths and religions around the world, now and through history. The museum is bright, modern and very engaging. Great for adults and children equally. Highly recommended for people of any faith or indeed none. There is a lovely cafe here too that is convenient for anyone visiting the Cathedral, the Necropolis or the Provand's Lordship museum just across the road.

Small but great museum about religions and spirituality. It's particularly well presented, with many objects/clothes/texts/pieces of art used to describe or pinpoint some aspects of the spiritual life of various groups of humans around the planet. The museum is free, very close to the cathedral, and also hosts a typically Scottish Zen garden (imagine a zen garden with weeds gently sprouting from the stones :-) and a nice café.

Five stars for the enthusiasm and dedication of the volunteers, ex-policemen, who make this a great small museum. Free entry. If you are in the area, drop in for a short visit. If you are more interested, the text with the items brings great depth in detail. Entrance a bit difficult to find though, so posted a picture. Recommend the museum to put a big sign at entrance.

I didn't want to go here at first, but I am glad that I did. It was an awesome experience and the history of the Glasgow police is really interesting. Situated right in middle of Merchant City , the small museum showcasing the world's first police force . The claim that London Metro police is the oldest is false since The Glasgow Police Act 1800 was passed much earlier than the Royal assent to the Metropolitan Police Act 1829 was given( many thanks to wiki). The museum is open twice a week and has the history of Glasgow police described in its exhibits. The highlight is a room filled with police badges and uniforms from all around the world. Most friendly staff to greet and explain about the museum.

I have always been interested in the different religions so I found this little museum engaging. They did a great job with the displays and artifacts to illustrate how different belief systems regulate ceremonies for birth, marriage, death and other lifetime rituals. It is well worth a visit if you are curious about rites of passage! (We had a short time here on a cruise ship for the day (docked in Greenock) - we did it on our own and fit in the Necropolis, Glasgow Cathedral, St Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art, Provand's Lordship, the HOHO bus, lunch at George Square and Rick Steves "Glasgow Walk" from his book.)

The St Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art is a museum of religion in Glasgow, Scotland. It has been described as the only public museum in the world devoted solely to this subject, although other notable museums of this kind are the State Museum of the History of Religion in St. Petersburg and the Catharijneconvent in Utrecht. The museum is located in Cathedral Square, on the lands of Glasgow Cathedral off High Street. It was constructed in 1989 on the site of a medieval castle-complex, the former residence of the bishops of Glasgow, parts of which can be seen inside the Cathedral and at the People's Palace, Glasgow. The museum building emulates the Scottish Baronial architectural style used for the former bishop's castle. The museum opened in 1993. Nearby are the Provand's Lordship (Glasgow's oldest house), the Glasgow Royal Infirmary, and Glasgow Necropolis.
