Could be a great space full of vibrant things but sadly it's not able to be.

Nothing of interest or value. B&M, Pound Stretcher, Super Drug and a lot of empty or soon to be empty units taken over by local craft initiatives. As far as retail arcades go it's poor with very little in the way of social space or interesting small businesses.

It's not as good as it used to be. A lot of the shops have gone, apparently it's supposed to be getting a complete make over let's hope it's true

Always good to know what shops have in order to get the best deals . Shawlands is handy and has a good variety of shops to choose from . Not always as busy as town .

Got what you need. Free parking for up to 2 hrs. Good, though very limited, selection of shops. Rather tired looking, could do with a refurb.

Historically this was a strange brutalist building that was interesting if not pretty. Then for many years it was unsuccessful with several places vacant. It's nice to see today it fully occupied. It has local shops, small supermarkets, charity shops, a very reasonably priced Witherspoon, and very nice to see some community groups have a space here too. I hope after the future renovation it retains the mix.

Shawlands what a dump used to love going here for a couple of hours now its a struggle to get past beggars and then plough through the rubbish to the bus stop only to wait about an hour for the bus 57 to be precise not a nice place to be

Some shops that are good to shop at but needs a lot of improvement and way more variety than already is maybe my rating is quite high. Not a bad place but i am sure the potential of Shawlands arcade is better than what it currently is.

Lots of great second hand shops. The arcade very dated (good news about new shopping centre) shops there assorted and a good bargain can be purchased. Lots of nice coffee shops and pubs to chose for an afternoon meal . A nice place to spend a day browsing.

We normally go to the weatherspoon across the road in the arcade. But thought we would try here for a change, We wanted to sit near the front but not at the front near people smoking outside so we found the seats and tables behind a partition wall, We went to sit and the man from behind the bar shouted to find another table as they weren't clean, So we found a table at the back, We order our meals and drinks everything was fine my sons like the food, me and my mum were a bit disappointed in out 2 courses for £6.99 ( 5 bits of scampi.) Also the wait for our dessert was a bit long i had to go ask for it as my son whonhas additional needs was getting a bits restless.

A winderful example of late 60's to mid 70's British architecture from what has been espoused as the progressive School of Brutalism. The access from the east is indirect via a long substantial Central European/Cold War style walkway made up primarily of concerte paving stones - a rudimentary pre-formed surface water drain was installed to the front elevated walkway, unfit for purposed and badly neglected from day one. Approaching from the west is an original rather daunting flight of stairs (carefully neglected) consisting of a substantial square section extruded aluminium slatted handrail and a matching flight of steel reinforced pre-formed steps - nice! Front elevation is reminiscent of the Hugo Frederick Zukov designed Peoples Hall in Karkeiv which recently attracted the attention of an artillery battalion of the Russian Federation, it echoed many popular Soviet era designs, having a wide V shaped slopping roof line to the front elevation - examples of which can be found in the book "Exploring Post War Soviet and Central European Architecture" (section III shape, style and form) by Anton Gregorovitc, out of print since 1983. Wheelchair friendlyaccess is via a Z shaped paved approach of matching design and materials which terminates at the top of the steel reinforced concrete stairs outlined above. Central access is via another sloped paved concrete walkway running west to east, it's terminus being noticably offset to the right of the central plaza/concourse area. The buildings centre is roofed similar to the design of the Detroit Municiple transit hub circa 1977, high and wide steel trusses having framed glazed roof lights running south to north forming an impressive but largely un-purposed plaza zone. Various established retail outlets and a somewhat eclectic range of local crafts/leisure pursuits are well represented - everything from a stain glass workshop, a health gym, a fitness studio, two charity shops, 3 food retailers a huge and impressively stocked hardware store, fashion and beauty supplier, two banks, a pharmacist and a very popular public house. The rear of the site contains two car parks one an open dual deck fesign and the other a multi story covered parking - to the north east are very well maintained social housing units, and three larger retail units all currently occupied - one of which is a well run childrens kindergarten and soft play centre. Sadly in 1 years time - after many years of careful neglect and a lack of any substantial maintainence/improvement - this well loved landmark building will be lost when the site is to be 'improved" by demolition and redevelopment. Local residents have voiced their growimg disquiet at a percieved lack of meaningful dialogue and consultation with the parties and agents involved regarding proposef substantial variances to the initial proposal.
