Great place. Some hints for your visit. 1. Prepay ticket and arrive 10 minutes prior to time on ticket. 2. Buy tickets before 1pm or 1300 so you can view the 1pm cannon firing. Make sure to find a spot to view the firingat least by 1245. Most. Good spots will be taken by then 3.There are several museums/areas on the castle grounds. A few of them are the Prison, National war museum and Royal Scots Dragoon. I found them to be nice and worth the time to spend exploring. 4. Bathrooms are available and first one as you enter on the left hand side. 5. The Scottish jewels was the longest wait of all places. 6. The have audio tours you can purchase to the right of the entrance if that is something you are interested in. 7. I would give myself at least 2 hours for museums and touring the castle. 8. Highly recommended

Loved this castle!! You are free to roam in the order you want and to see inside buildings as you desire. Not 100% accessible, but you could spend hours there! We liked going earlier cause it was less crowded. You can stay as long as you want, so later in the day the crowds just grow. Lots of military museum spaces. Enthusiasts will love it! No pics allowed when viewing the Crown Jewels, nor in one other memorial building for deceased servicemen. Everything else is fine for pics. Great picture ops everywhere! Incredible view! We went in April and the wind made it quite cold so dress warm!

Nicest castle ever. Edinburgh Castle is an iconic marvel perched majestically atop Castle Rock, offering a captivating journey through Scotland's rich history. The panoramic views of the city from the castle are unparalleled, showcasing the enchanting blend of ancient and modern Edinburgh. The castle's formidable architecture, with its centuries-old stone walls and towers, immerses visitors in a bygone era. Exploring the Crown Jewels and the Stone of Destiny within the castle's walls is like stepping into the heart of Scottish royalty. The guided tours, brimming with fascinating anecdotes, bring the castle's stories to life, from its medieval origins to its role in pivotal historical events. The Great Hall and the atmospheric St. Margaret's Chapel provide glimpses into the castle's diverse past. The esplanade hosts military displays, adding a dynamic touch to the visit. Edinburgh Castle is not merely a tourist attraction; it's a living testament to Scotland's resilience and cultural richness. The well-maintained grounds, including the National War Museum, enhance the experience. While entrance fees are applicable, the wealth of history and awe-inspiring architecture make it a worthwhile investment for anyone seeking a profound connection with Scotland's heritage.

A very nice experience! I liked it a lot. I think the price is reasonable , you get your money worth walking around for a few hours. There is a lot of history in this place, you can learn with the guides or you can read from the posters with so much information, you can learn a lot of Scottish culture. There is a lot of military history here, if you like history don't miss this place and also the views from the city. What a beautiful castle

Really enjoyable visit. We booked the guided tour, which was about 30 minutes long, and got some insight on the history of Edinburgh and the castle. Although most of it has been rebuilt, it is still impressive. What we enjoyed the most were the exhibits — the road to the Crown Jewels room was super cool and had plenty of information displayed in a very didactic manner. Would recommend

🇬🇧Title: Unveiling Edinburgh Castle: A Historic Gem Edinburgh Castle, perched majestically atop its hill, commands the cityscape and serves as an essential destination for any visitor to Edinburgh. Inside its ancient walls lies a treasure trove of Scottish history, offering a captivating journey through the annals of time. With a particular focus on the era of Mary, Queen of Scots, and the symbolism surrounding the Stone of Destiny, the castle provides a poignant insight into Scotland's storied past. From royal intrigues to pivotal moments in the nation's history, each corner reveals a new chapter waiting to be explored. To truly enhance your experience, I highly recommend engaging the services of a knowledgeable tour guide. Their expertise adds depth and context to the narratives woven within the castle walls, transforming your visit into a truly immersive and fulfilling experience. In conclusion, Edinburgh Castle stands as a towering symbol of Scotland's heritage and a must-visit attraction for all. With its rich history and breathtaking views, it promises an unforgettable journey through time for every visitor.

Phenomenal castle with truly spectacular views. Most castle areas are accessible and there are many interesting artifacts and items of historical significance. It will take you a good 2-3 hrs to finish exploring the castle. A must visit is the national Scottish war museum.

Good day out, spent a good two hours here. Would recommend buying a ticket in advance but I got in about 45 min before my time slot was due. Only queuing I had to do was for the crown jewels, rest of the castle was busy, but not packed. Would come again

I had a wonderful time visiting Edinburgh Castle, one of the most iconic landmarks in Scotland. The castle is a great historical fort that showcases the rich and turbulent history of the country. The views from the castle are amazing, especially on a clear day. You can see the whole city and beyond, and admire the stunning architecture and scenery. The memorial for the Scottish soldiers who died in the wars is also very impressive and moving. It is a tribute to their bravery and sacrifice. The only thing I would recommend is to buy your tickets online in advance, as it is cheaper and faster than buying them at the gate.

Beautiful castle inside and out, loads to see including the Crown jewels. Friendly staff and plenty of restrooms around. Canon firing at 1pm most days. Able to print a map before you go. Can book onto tours at the castle itself which looked good but we did not do this. Lots of steep inclines so wear comfy footwear!

Fantastic views and steeped in medieval history. We saw the Scottish Crown Jewels which were spectacular to see up close. The art work throughout the Crown jewel exhibition was beautiful telling the story of the Scottish Crown throughout the ages. There was one part where the paintings of each of the characters depicted slowly came out of the wall as you walked along with the final 2 or 3 being stand along sculptures; it was superb! The views were simply breathtaking at each of the different levels! Well worth a visit!

Definitely buy the tickets in advance! I would say the audio guide is nice but for sure not necessary since everything is well explained in the panels. It’s very nice and gives you a very good understanding of the history of Scotland, especially about moments of war and wwii. It will take You easily 4 hours to see everything. At 13 there’s the canon ball moment, best time to be at!

I arrived on a Sunday morning with a 930 entry. They were a lot of people in line, but everything went quickly. While there were a lot of people in the castle, it did not seem crowded. If you love history, castles, architecture, or views from a top, this is a must see. You could spend all day inside the castle if you want to do view everything. There are several museums inside as well.

Lovely experience visiting the castle, got to see a Burns song recital, the cannon firing at 1pm and would highly recommend visiting in the morning on the weekend and precooking tickets, by the time we left after 1pm on a Saturday it was very busy! Seeing the honours and war memorial was fantastic as well as all the other parts of the castle. Recommend getting a map or audio tour to help you navigate it and having 3-4 hours dedicated to exploring.

Amazing place. It has lots of open areas and you visit the “rooms”, cathedral and others. It is like a little old town with lots of history. Very different to other traditional castles in the UK. I absolutely loved it. The view is stunning. It is worth a visit and even better if clear sky.

I had a fantastic day exploring the castle I got there just before the one o'clock gun my God what a bang that goes with. The scenery from up here is absolutely amazing and you can see for miles and miles all around the castle. The castle is heaped in so much history from Mons Meg to st Margaret's chapel to even visiting the national war museum. I would highly recommend visiting here if your in the area

Scotland is distinctive and a bit mysterious. The best way to experience the soul of the country is to visit Edinburgh Castle. In excellent condition, neat and cleverly well looked after, completely worth the money and time. Narrow streets and courtyards with an ancient spirit and only itself understand and preserve the memory of the antiquity of centuries. The excellent views

Steeped in history and providing stunning views over Edinburgh and the surrounding areas. Lots to also see within the castle grounds which make the cost of the ticket worthwhile. There are tea rooms, a gift shop and a whisky shop. Well staffed. We were surprised that the walk up to the Castle was not too steep. Good for adults and kids alike. You have to buy your tickets in advance for a 30 minute entrance slot. The audio guides are an additional cost but worth getting. Give yourself at least 2 hours to go around. Well worth a visit.

I absolutely loved it. The view is stunning. It is worth a visit and even better if clear sky. We also visited the Royal military tattoo that was on. Great show! A must if you ask me! I loved every second of this place, due to our flight we booked the last ticket of the day and we didn't get to see everything we wanted to see so I suggest booking an earlier ticket of the day, I know at 1 o'clock they fire guns which would be cool to see. Also there was a lot of people being turned away because they sell out of tickets so be sure to book them in advance. The Scotland crown jewels were impressive and the war memorials were moving.

At least need half day! way too many to see...history, culture, war, concentration camp, how people at that time spent time there. Complicatedly protected castle has few layer of the ground level. If you continue a tour journey...the top of the ground has amazing view - with very tiny, very simple chapel "St Margaret's Chapel". - The most oldest surviving building in Scotland... How simple yet holy the place was! It was very, very spiritual.

A must for anyone visiting this fantastic city. We got here a little early but as it was quiet, the staff allowed us to go in and spend even longer walking through the history, viewing the military artifacts and absorbing the views of Edinburgh from the gun battery. I can't fault our visit (despite the rain)

11th century fortress sitting high on Castle Rock in Edinburgh, Scotland. Amazing castle inside and out. I visited during covid so some of the attractions were closed but still managed to see most of its surroundings and rooms but queuing is involved. NPC parking is about 15 minute walk away from the Castle but can be quite expensive so I’d arrive early to find the best spot.

(Translated by Google) The historic "Edinburgh" castle, which is one of the most haunted sites in Scotland, dating back to the twelfth century, is now considered a museum and a tourist attraction, due to the myths and tales that occurred inside the walls of this castle. There is a group of stories about ghosts that inhabit this castle, the most famous of which is quoted from the "independent" website, that people with plague were kept in the basements and the lower rooms of the castle, so they were a quarantine for the victims of this disease so that they did not infect those around them and did not hear the sounds of their groans and their screams. And when they died, they buried them inside the castle, and their troubled souls did not find peace, and began wandering around the palace in the form of ghosts. In 2001 Dr. Richard Wiseman, a doctor of psychology at the University of Hertfordshire, ordered 240 people to volunteer and spend 14 days to confirm this myth. Indeed, they witnessed terrifying events, and some of them lost awareness of the intensity of terror, and when the doctor asked them what happened with them, the phenomena were summarized in seeing shadows without seeing The owners, and someone mentioned that something grabbed his arm and left traces of burning in his place (Original)

Love Edinburgh and you get amazing views from the castle. Be warned that it's a steep hill to the gates but taxi are allowed to drop off. Your journey round the castle is well signposted and there are great photos to be had. Unfortunately I'm not very good at taking them.

I wish I had read more about Edinburgh Castle before visiting. The castle its self is fantastic to look at but Edinburgh Castle is all about Scottish military history. Not what I was expecting. That's on me though for not reading more about it before visiting. As a family of 6 ages of 13 to 45 we spent around an hour and a half hour. If we had been more interested in the amazing displays of military history and information boards we would have spent hours and hours reading everything. I can't deny they have put a lot of effort into making the displays but just wasn't for us.

On New Year’s Day morning, I came here with my wife. Many people returned to this square as soon as possible, and this year, a stand was set up in the square, and I prayed in my heart that the Military Tattoo would return. Visitors to Edinburgh Castle after the lockdown will be able to meet the very modest and very nice lady in this photo. Please find her in her place. Also, everyone in Edinburgh is very kind. Hope keep safe and healthy!

As I approached this spectacular structure, I was awestruck by its construction, to think men with ropes and wooden scaffolding erected this building long before hydraulic cranes and forklifts, it's a testament to engineering skills long since gone. The stone masonry though aged by weather and time, still shows the level of skill local artisans possessed. View the Castle not as it is, but as it was, the Concord of its day, picture the throngs of craftsmen labouring away with simple hand tools and you will marvel in the achievement. This is a piece of history that tells a story we today could never replicate. A building dedicated to a time when people built things to last, a time long gone. Enjoy.

Great castle to visit. Loved the crown jewels and the St.Margaret's Chapel being oldest building from 1100s. The memorials for the Great War and the subsequent wars were interesting. Toilets available everywhere. One of the best souvenier shops by the entrance with descent price as well. Wonderful views to Edinburgh. A must see in Edinburgh.

At the moment covid and renovation work has impacted on the castles visiting experience, with scaffold up longer queues and some sections closed so be aware before visiting. Had to book online and it was £15.50 for an adult ticket but you can take as long as you want to wander around looking at Mons Meg ( a huge gun) St Margaret's Chapel, several museums and exhibitions with large collections of historic items and a stunning Scottish National War memorial. It has stunning views of the city from the ramparts and a couple of pricey shops to buy those touristy knick knacks you never really needed. Some areas such as the war memorial do not allow photographs so please be respectful.

Incredible castle, the best in Scotland in my opinion. All the museums inside are fantastic with very organized history and displays. It can seem very busy, which it is, but there is plenty of space to spread out. And the views from the top are unbeatable, giving you a 360 degree look at all of Edinburgh. Don’t miss out on this one!

Book tickets in advance as you're not guaranteed entry if you just turn up. The website is easy to use, there are many time slots to choose from and you get a long window to arrive within. This place is truly spectacular and there is so much to see on site that you could spend much longer here than you'll plan for. St Margarets Chapel is small but the stained glass is beautiful. The Crown Jewels are well worth the queue and were the highlight for me until I entered the Scottish National War Memorial building. Absolutely amazing! The Regimental museums and National War museum are glorious, so much information and memorabilia. Be sure to be on time for the one o'clock gun! The Great Hall is fabulous, the ceiling alone! The replicas of Mary Queen of Scots embroideries are exquisite so don't miss those. You'll really appreciate the amount of work that's went into them. There are plenty of toilets around and cafes to stop for coffee and a snack. We spent a good 3 hours here and probably still missed things

A truly spectacular piece of Scottish history that you must see when in Edinburgh. The vistas are spectacular. Prepare to burn calories as you climb up and into this amazing historical sight. The 1pm gun is great to see. It’s been fired every day since 1861 except on Sundays, Good Friday and Christmas Day. The Crown Jewels are stunning… as is the war memorial chapel nearby but photography is not allowed. Spectacular photo ops abound everywhere else though! Wear comfortable footwear and bring a little patience and the experience will be very memorable!

Amazing amazing experience visiting this castle. We pre-booked our tickets online and went straight to the entrance. Audio guides are worth it as they provide a ton of information about the history of the castle. And also include tidbits about various museum artifacts. There are several small museums scattered around the castle. Our favorites were the Argyle tower and Prisons of War. At 1PM sharp, they fire a canon that has historically been fired everyday at the same time. In the past, ships used this signal to adjust their maritime clocks. It's cool to watch, but make sure to find a good vantage point 20 min before. Crowds gather quick. There are a few cafes and toilets also scattered around the castle. One was a whisky store and we were able to get a free tasting. This was nice. Finally we saw the crown jewels of Scotland. There is a queue to view them, but it moves fast. The landscape and picturesque views of the city skyline from the castle make it 100% worth it! We easily spent over 3 hours exploring the castle.

Edinburgh Castle was a really good thing to kill a few hours in Edinburgh! It was around £15 for an adult ticket. I didnt go see the 1 o clock gun but I bet it would be very busy. There are circles painted on the floor so everyone would be socially distant. There were a few exhibitions closed like the Jewels but there is still plenty to see like Mons Megg which is a massive cannon! The view from up top is amazing and you can see why they built a castle here!! I would definitely go again next time I'm in Edinburgh. Also the staff are very friendly and welcoming!!

This is a very good destination to be in Edinburgh. You can book the tickets online and take printout in the entrance. Otherwise you will end up in queue for a longer duration to purchase the tickets at the location. The castle is mind blowing and very good experience, I seriously recommend the place Enjoy your visit... Thanks

Do not miss seeing this place...keep in mind it is an active military installation

A touch of sentimentality in a place that only murmurs death. I Love Edinburgh Castle one of the best. It has great views all around. Much like other castles it is onto of a very large hill to make sure they can see anyone attacking (back in the day), so be prepared for a big hike. One of the greatest features is the memorial Chapel where photographs are not allowed, it is beautiful. Although disappointed on our recent visit this is due to COVID measures that are set out and not of any fault of the castle. Due to COVID measures a lot of the castle is closed compared to normal. Several hand sanitising stations set up and you will be asked to clean your hands before entering. They actually ask unlike other places. Due to one way measures if you take a buggy down to the dungeons you need to take it back out the large set of stairs. Note; If you park in an NCP car park make sure to validate your parking ticket at the castle. 5 hours for £10 will save you a lot.

Another Scottish beauty is the Edinburgh Castle. Sitting on top of Castle Rock, it overlooks the capital of Scotland. Unsurprising, considering the majority of medieval castles had strategic locations; the key was being able to see the enemy and remain difficult to reach. A dramatic history didn’t spare Edinburgh Castle due to the tensions between England and Scotland. During the First and Second Wars of Scottish Independence, the ownership of the castle changed between the Scottish and the English several times. To this day, Edinburgh Castle remains a top attraction for anyone visiting the city and tourists can take part in various guided tours and events. And if that’s not your cup of tea, why not simply enjoy the stunning views?

The most iconic castle in the centre of edinburg city located above a Rock, and the castle itself is centuries old. It is situated at the top of the hill so we can see the view of the entire city from above The castle. There is even the military museums , royal palace and crown . At 1 pm gun is fired and can be seen if visited at that time. Some of the places are not allowed to visit as it is occupied by military. Book the tickets in advance and has some concession for students and old age.

Truly beautiful to say the least, nice place to go on a little date however there wasn't a lot of information about the castle, no guides and you had to pay extra to have a walk though and actual knowledge shared (audio headphone). Little silly that you have to pay extra to know about the castle when your already paying £15 to get in.... Merch is very cute though really like the quality and the view was amazing

Beautiful castle, loved the experience. Would recommend getting a guide, I had the lovely John from Little Fish, other tour guides are available. Wear all the layers!! It is absolutely freezing! Great place to visit if you're visiting Edinburgh as you get to see a lot during the walk to the castle. You'll encounter one of the largest souvenir shops just outside the castle. You'll also come across the Scotch Whiskey Experience as well as couple other experiences in the surrounding area. The view from outside the castle overlooking the city is beautiful on a nice sunny day. Overall great place to visit!

A very interesting place to visit with all the history and information on the Scottish monachy. The crown is worth a look. Stayed for the one o'clock gun which is really quite loud! Made a lot of people there jump even though they knew it was going to happen. Views over Edinburgh and the Forth are pretty impressive too.

Mixed review really. Visited in December 2021 and after paying same admission price as would have done during summer was disappointed to fine that not everything was open. Enjoyed walking around the castle though. Would have only given 3 stars but for one of the staff working there in the war museum who was brilliant when answering all my 11 year old daughter's questions and was very enthusiastic in telling her different facts.

We visited here by taking Scotland explorer pass . Which includes 4 to 6 attraction you can visit these attractions by the pass easily and don’t need to buy tickets. The tickets are easily available on phone, they scan the QR code and let you in. Take the audio guide from the counter and enjoy…!

Beautiful site, truly a jewel of Scotland. (Tourist review) my wife and I were traveling from the US, and ended up with Edinburgh as our itinerary for a Wednesday. I had heard about long lines and some unavailability, so I purchased the Scottish Historical society Explorer pass, and a reservation for 1:00 to view the castle. We arrived in time and were able to walk right in, showing the explorer pass. Very smooth! It was a bit rainy off and on, but there were plenty of buildings to step inside of and every shop had umbrellas for sale. The castle exhibits were a bit more modern than we expected, focusing mostly on 1600’s onwards but we loved the Scottish war museum and the individual regiment museums. A good variety of artifacts and information. We enjoyed the great hall and the views from the cannon battery’s immensely. I didn’t see too much content specifically for kids, but it was filled with such beautiful views of architecture and cool artifacts I think people of all ages could appreciate the castle! It took us 4 hours to see everything, stopping for lunch and taking photos, but not waiting in lines

This visit was to see The Military Tattoo, and it was fabulous. It was a lovely evening and with the castle in the background was just awesome. Its a must to visit. In the past we've gone round the castle and it's magical. When you're in the town and look up at it standing majestic on the hill. Wow 👌

  • 4/5 Chace G. 10 months ago on Google
Excellent venue for the annual Royal Military Tattoo as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. I’ve attended the Tattoo twice now, several years apart, and it has yet to disappoint as a spectacle of military bands and marching prowess. The coordination involved is incredible, especially at the culmination of the show with the massed pipes and drums. The castle itself sits ominously over the city centre, being visible for miles around and at several points around city. Several nice walks are available around the grounds and up to the front gates, affording plenty of opportunities for photographers.

I can't say personally that I was overwhelmed by this place. Staff were super helpful and there's definitely a lot of interesting things to see but like with any tourist attraction it is very busy. Definitely book tickets in advance as they sell out super quickly. I wouldn't recommend this as somewhere for little ones as there's a lot of walking up hill and uneven surface and not a lot for them to do. Fantastic views over Edinburgh, and I'm sure an enjoyable day out for others.

  • 5/5 Shankar R. 9 months ago on Google
Historic castle that offers panoramic views of Edinburgh and the countryside. The castle also has a lot of beautiful buildings many of which house extensive historic displays. The historic displays are focused entirely on military and warfare related themes which can get tedious after a while. Summer crowds make it somewhat difficult to navigate some of the tighter spaces in the castle so try to avoid busy times if you can. Advance booking is highly recommended - you may in for a disappointment otherwise during the busy summer season.

  • 5/5 Jake R. 9 months ago on Google
Fun place to check out if you’re from out of town! It’s set up as much more of a museum than castle ruins/remains. Buy tickets on Historic Scotland website a few days in advance.

  • 5/5 Natalia C. 9 months ago on Google
Cool castle. The views of it from around the city are something like out of a fantasy movie and views from the castle onto the city and the area are vast and beautiful. Inside the castle you'll find plenty of attractions such as the one o'clock gun, which is fired off ever day except Sunday - that attraction gets busy. There are dungeons and chapels, the crown jewels are a sight to see. You can walk around the castle walls, take pictures with canons and have a look inside the armory (they also have a trebuchet in one of the buildings). There are plenty of gifts shops, cafes and a whisky experience. Worth the climb to the top of the hill to explore the castle and truly take in the history.

  • 5/5 Brittany D. 9 months ago on Google
So much history here. The staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Take your time and make sure to see everything. My group walked around for about 4 hours. Wear comfortable shoes. Buy tickets in advance as they do sell out.

Stunning views an insightful audio guide. Beautiful castle grounds highly recommend to anyone visiting. Be sure to book ahead as it's fully booked today and seems like it is everyday. My parents were on a British isles cruise few months ago and came the day of hoping to visit but were turned away due to being booked to capacity.

  • 5/5 SheSings 8 months ago on Google
This is an absolutely beautiful castle! It has so much history behind it so I suggest getting a tour guide or getting one of the headphone ones. There was no wait getting in and the crowds were manageable. The castle will give you a beautiful view of Edinburgh so if you are wanting some rich history and great views, this is definitely the spot!

  • 5/5 Michael L. 8 months ago on Google
One of the best castles I've ever visited. It's like a labyrinth with hidden secrets around every corner. It's easy to spend several hours here in order to see everything on offer. Halls, museums, an excellent guided tour, dungeons, prison cell reconstructions, the list goes on. I would strongly advise booking up in advance as it was sold out when I visited and there were long queues with hundreds of visitors.

  • 5/5 Pravda P. 8 months ago on Google
It was a great experience! Regardless of the rain we walked all over the grounds listening to our guide telling stories. After the tour we looked at all the buildings again, cannons, chapel, even little graveyard for dogs. Overall happy we visited it.

A sight to behold, it was my first time here and I enjoyed learning the history of this castle while visiting. I loved that they had audio guides which were very helpful while getting around. The cafe had great food selection, it was so crowded there for lunch, I had to wait a long while before I could get food and a table.

  • 5/5 Sean R. 5 months ago on Google
Amazing castle. Another of history and could take photos everywhere except the crown jewels. Definitely worth a visit and a lot of great shops and restaurants within walking distance. Almost every thing was with on a godd 10 15 minute walk from our hotel.

  • 5/5 Jeremy K. 5 months ago on Google
Buy your tickets in advance online and skip the line. Visit is worth the price (~£20). Realistically, it's multiple museums in one. Some of the exhibits were very high quality but a couple need updating. Great views of the city and awesome photo opportunities.

  • 5/5 Lonny W. 5 months ago on Google
I recommend spending at least a day here to see all that there is to see with the different museums and the beautiful history. It is really amazing! If you happen to be lucky like me and come here on the King's Birthday you can see the 21 gun salute at noon. Otherwise every day except Sunday and Good Friday they fire the cannon at 1:00. Museums reflect the different wars and branches of the military. There is also an audio tour that explains 26 different points around the castle that I highly recommend. If you don't have that or a tour guide you miss on some very significant information. Most of the tour is going from building to building and seeing the castle from outside. So go prepared for the weather. It was raining most of the day but I had an umbrella and a warm coat and had a delightful time.

  • 5/5 Lee C. 5 months ago on Google
We had the guided tour, and it was well worth it. Price includes full entry to the castle after your tour. Sean was very knowledgeable and informative, very friendly, and at times funny. We got here early to witness the 1 o'clock canon fire. But we didn't know about the 21 gun salute for Kings' birthday.

...awesome experience when going with the family. This trip was based on my 5 Yr old learning about castle at school, so we drove up to Scotland for the weekend. History, location and weather (even though very wet) add to the atmosphere of the day. Worth a visit.

Informative and interesting visit. Enjoyed the canon going off at 1pm to mark the time as described by the tour guide. Great museums, crown jewels and many other things to see. We enjoyed a half hour guided tour- would recommend this. Spent longer at the castle visit than anticipated as so much to see. We visited in January so we battled against strong wind and rain thanks to storms-but it didn't spoil our visit.

  • 5/5 Adam J. 1 month ago on Google • 2 reviews New
A Great experience and plenty to see, you could easily spend a full day here if you want to see everything. Plenty to learn if that’s your thing. The castle does get busy but plenty of areas to visit if certain areas are busy. The architecture is stunning. Very clean and helpful staff along the way. We had tickets booked in advance so no waiting to enter the castle grounds.
