Star, thank you for your incredible service tonight to celebrate my birthday. It was outstanding. My water was always filled, she was so sweet & the restaurant was VERY clean. I loved it inside. It was adorable. The food was outstanding! The Mac & cheese- yum. The sausage was so good. What a great 1st experience! Incredible.

Schweinhaxe is amazing! The biggest portion I've ever seen and authentic. Not dry and skin was crispy. Also has the potato pancakes, fried saurkraut and chicken with mushrooms. Beer selection for Oktoberfest was also great with Liter steins.

This may very well be my favorite restaurant in D.C, I always make sure to stop in when I'm in town! Cafe Berlin dishes incredibly hardy German food with big flavor. They also offer some great beer selections. The inside of the restaurant is very rustic and cozy, and in the summer, there is gorgeous patio seating out front.

Authentic German restaurant. Our server, Hana, was very friendly, attentive and provided detailed information to our questions. We really enjoyed the Kabeljau and Jägerschnitzel, which were delicious and made us want to travel back to Germany. We also liked the half-order of Wurstfeast, which came with my wife's favorite potato dumplings. The Apfelstrudel mit Vanilla Eis is highly recommended, with a delicious, strong cinnamon flavor.

Thursday night visit. Not busy. Attentive staff, Owners family came by to greet our 9 month old. Big lag between appetizer and main course (they admit to small kitchen) but all food items were very good or excellent when they arrived.

We were looking for a good chicken schnitzel in Washington DC and so glad you found (probably) the best one. We started with a refreshing salad (Spargelsalat... arugula, purple, green, and white asparagus, cherry tomato, parmesan; lemon, ramp-mustard vinaigrette) and then took the chicken schnitzel with white asparagus, new potatoes, hollandaise-and I couldn’t stop smiling . It was delicious. They also have veal and pork schnitzel but I prefer the chicken. For dessert we had the chocolate cake which was just ok (nothing special) and the asparagus ice cream, pretzel crust, strawberry, mint, Grand Mariner which was insanely good. Can’t wait to go back . I need more

Beautiful place and great food! I had chicken with spätzle and mushroom sauce. The spätzle was even better than the one I ate in Germany. Also, the waiter was very patient while my parents (who don't speak English) we're deciding what to order. I totally recommend this place.

As a German (born and raised for 18 years), now living in the US., I often have the desire to eat German food. I was really looking forward to eating at Cafe Berlin. Did it taste like authentic German food? No. But it sure felt reminiscent sitting outside, in a sort of Biergarten environment, with a half a liter of beer, Spaetzle, Kartoffelpuffer (Potato pancakes), and Gurkensalat. I was hoping they offered Radler, or Alster (depending on what part of Germany you're visiting), it is essentially a pilsner with sprite. Since they only offer regular beer, I also ordered a Sprite and just poured it in my beer and voila! A Radler! May be something to add to their menu (hint). 😋 The Gurkensalat (cucumber salad) was really good. It brought back memories of all the Gurkensalat I ate as a kid at my grandma's house on Sundays. The Kartofelpuffer with apple sauce (yes!!) and sour cream (what?? That is not a German thing!) was pretty good. It did not taste like the German version, but it was still tasty. The Kaesespaetzle were really good and pretty close to true Spaetzle! My sister-in-law had Melonensalat and to be honest I had no idea that was even a German thing, but she liked it. Overall, I enjoyed my meal and drink, and would recommend this to anyone who would like to try some good German cuisine.

Local gem run by lovely couple who have weathered the COVID storm w ease and grace. The experience has made them solid in every degree of fine dining experience. Amongst the many specialties are the daily specials and dessert delights. We enjoy this institution sporadically, each time wanting to come more often. I’m not generally a fan of heavier food, but this a place that does it well. The flavors are contained in just the right places, delicately plated, cooked precisely, served proudly. As I said, this place is a gem.

Not a bad place! It was my first experience with German cuisine so I do not have much to compare it to. I had the Sauerbraten. My date had the wiener schnitzel. The Sauerbranen had a delightfully rich red wine sauce and the German macaroni and cheese was some of the best I've had.

We are German and my mom wanted to eat here for her birthday in mid December. There was not enough indoor seating so we had to sit outside on a cold, dark night, with kids and eat. They had two outdoor heaters and a small fire pit (the kids enjoyed roasting their food over the flames) but it was COLD 🥶 outside and the chairs are metal with no cushions. This made for uncomfortable eating. The food wasn’t as good as any of us had remembered it to be, sadly. None of us felt like the food was worth the prices either. But the kids had fun. The bill came to $490 and we were charged - wage & health insurance fee $35, tax $63 (which is higher than DC food tax and I meant to call them to complain about this), and a $98 gratuity. Total bill was just under $700. We will NOT be going back there again. Next time my mom wants German food we’re going to Bavarian Inn (where the food will be good and we won’t be grossly overcharged with fees and higher tax than the state food tax already is).

Delicious, traditional German food. Great portions and quality service. The pretzels were incredible, as was the Apple Strudel - both were probably the best I've ever had. Loved that the sauerkraut was actually sour. Highly recommended!

Very good food. The pretzel appetizer was delish. The schnitzel was perfectly cooked and very good. Apple strudel...chefs kiss! Service is very good. Certainly will be back next time I'm in DC.

Incredibly delicious and authentic German cuisine. Definitely have drinks and/or dinner here anytime you’re in the area. Its the best German food you can find in DC and is a real gem.

We were very excited to try this place as I come from a German American family, and the food was excellent. The sauerkraut appetizer, bretzel, and sauerbraten were amazing. However, we were very disappointed with the service. I understand that many restaurants are understaffed right now, but no waitstaff came back to our table after our food arrived and we would have ordered more beer and dessert. We waited at least 20 minutes before someone noticed our empty plates and asked if we needed anything. I’m undecided if I would go back at this point.

As a neighborhood local and german beer fan I was excited to come here, but will not be returning.I came on a weekday for lunch, ordered a pretzel , a maibock and a chicken sandwich with a side soup. A server was training another and they both took my order. 20 minutes go by and I still don’t have anything on the table. I ask a server about the beer, and one is brought out. It’s the wrong beer. I ask to verify , and was told they ran out so they gave me a similar beer, one I would not have ordered. 20 more minutes go by and I have to flag the server down to ask about the pretzel appetizer. I sat for another 20-30 minutes , now having been there about an hour and fifteen minutes total before I have to this time get up and go inside to where the manager is sitting ironically eating a sandwich, to ask once where the sandwich was Id ordered an hour ago and that i’d have to take it to go at this point. A server then a minute later brings out the sandwich and soup on/in glassware. The icing on the cake was getting to see the $16 sandwich and excuse of a “soup” which you can see pics of. Failure from start to finish.

Really enjoyed the Wienerschnitzel at Cafe Berlin 🔥 It is a perfectly crispy, thin piece of veal that is breaded and fried. For my two sides, I got the potato dumpling and the German Mac & Cheese. In all honesty, I didn’t find the sides to be that good. To me, the potato dumpling seemed a bit rubbery and dry, although the Mac & Cheese was decent. However, the Wienerschnitzel itself is delicious. I am not German, but the food and ambiance seem very authentic, at least as far as I can tell. Definitely worth a visit!

I love German cuisine so when I heard about this place I had to go check it out! Their food is so hearty and flavorful, don’t get me started on the dessert 10/10 😍😍 Everything was very fresh and flavorful, I will say the food is very rich especially the braised beef, that was my favorite. ( Their hot chocolate is also really good but they only fill the glsss up halfway. Appetizers: Bretzel: Bavarian style Pretzels with a trio of mustard & Bree Cheese Spread Currywurst: Grilled Sausage in Curry Saice Entrees: Sauerbraten: Red wine marinated braised beef roast, potato dumplings & red cabbage Hühnerschnitzel: Chicken breast, pounded thin, breaded, pan fried, mushroom-bacon cream gravy, spätzle Dessert: Apfelstrudel mit Vanilla Eis: pink lady apples and raisins baked to order in cinnamon specked pastry; served with house-made vanilla ice cream Schokoladekuchen mit Vanilla Eis: warm chocolate cake, salted caramel, house made vanilla ice cream Drinks: Berlin ‘85 Champagne, Gin, herb infused simple syrup and a twist of lemon. Tcho Drinking Chocolate

Great service and ambiance. The food was decent but not worth the price... It is a good place for a one time date thing. But I don't want to go back. The red cabbage side was delicious and the Sauerbraten (red wine marinated beef) was tasty as well, but to us, they did not go well together at all. The Wiener Schnitzel (breaded veal) was not very good. We had to remove all the breaded to enjoy some of the meat with the vegetables. For the dessert, the slice of Apfelstrudel was tasty but not worth $19....

We did takeout and it was great. There were four of us that shared everything so we got to taste it all. Very good.

Having lived in Germany for a year, I had high expectations for the quaint spot. I’m very happy to report that they were met and even surpassed! The spaetzle bed the schnitzel rested on was so tasty and you could easily tell they were made in house. The main piece of the meal was so satisfyingly crispy, with enough crunch to be audible but enough meat to justify the cost and name. The half liter of Erdinger beer served to add even more authenticity to the delicious meal!

I've been to Germany several times and visit German restaurants around the states as I travel. Atmosphere was the most authentic to Germany I have seen. The outdoor patio was perfect for lunch and a beer and felt like I was back in Germany. The food was excellent as well. I did a sausage platter with spaetzle and sauerkraut and enjoyed everything on the plate. Beer selection is good and prices are very reasonable for being in a large city. I also did the Eiskaffee with Jagermeister for dessert which was also very good. I highly recommend a visit to Cafe Berlin if you are ever in DC. I know I will return on my next trip here!

Went here for my partner’s bday, the food was sooooo good here. Got the sauerkraut balls, pretzels, jagerschnitzel and apfelstrudel, all were delicious! The jagerschnitzel came with spatzle, I’m not usually the biggest fan of spatzle, but it had this mushroom gravy was divine and ate it all up! And the service was great as well, shout out to Astrea was taking care of our party of 7 on a Friday evening and had us laughing throughout the night. Opted for some Oktoberfest beer that did not disappoint. Will be back for another special occasion for sure.
