Had a peaceful hike on the Thaddeus Stevens trail. So beautiful. I literally only saw one piece of litter on the whole trail. I logged almost 7,000 steps on the "challenging" route that took is about 1 1/2hrs. The only sad part was no place to look out at the view at the top of the mountain.

The mountains in Michaux aren't the highest in the state, but the year-round green makes this forest unique. There are tons of trails with excellent views in a highland landscape that can't be found nearby.

A decent amount of gravel and dirt roads to explore on 4 wheels or 2. To many yellow gates, some opened some not. but worth the drive. Some good views when the leaves are down. Oh and rattle snakes too.

Awesome place to ride ATVs! The forest is beautiful, and the trails are well kept. (all thought rocky sometimes) Great time!

Michaux is huge but I couldn’t find a specific location to review for long pine. We typically enjoy this body of water and hiking area but very much during the week and not on weekends when it is very much mobbed. It is getting very popular so sometimes hard to find a nice spot along the banks that is far enough away that you don’t feel on top of someone, usually on the far side via a short hike in from a side road. Hiking in winter and early spring offers the most solace and feeling that you are “getting away”- some weekends we count as many as fifteen or more boats; we prefer days with one or two. Wide variety of wildlife to be found, multiple species of deer, bear, snake, porcupine. Please be careful, on one occasion someone didn’t put their fire out, my children came upon it just as the embers were catching some bushes on fire. Be smart so we can all enjoy this beautiful forest- trails clearly marked obviously well trafficked trail sideg

Plenty of campsites to camp 🏕. All size vehicles. You must register for your site (free) 7 days free. Register online or at Ranger office. It's beautiful. It also has vault toilets. Use Google maps to see everything you need to see.

Overall I had a good time tent camping. I didn't realize I needed a reservation, but the district office was very accommodating. Be sure to bring LOTS of bug spray in the summer. So many mosquitoes...

Beautiful and serene. Pure nature. Trails are clear enough for easy passage, but not groomed or paved. Some old ruins are made to be explored!

Kathy at the district office was great and very helpful. So was Ranger Ottinger. He recommended lots of beautiful places and trails. It is a place to do things. I was told it is the most busy forest in PA. So it is great for hiking, biking, ATV's and horseback riding. If you want to rest and connect with nature there are other forests and parks more suited for that. I suggest talking to the rangers or office before making a reservation. They will give you good advice.

The trails are very well tended to, with very few obstacles (roots, rocks, ect...) to deal with. There are also multiple streams to wade in -- one deep enough to swim in -- and a renovated pool. One of the better parks in the area.

Amazing!!! I wish I had pictures, but I lost my phone on a trail there and could not find it with even a paid app. I had to get a new phone, and everything but my pictures were in the cloud. 400+ hiking pics. I'll take more, and to see the ones I liked, please visit my spot on here as a guide.

Lots techy steep MTB trails for experienced and expert riders, best to shuttle or eMTB back up to top for multiple runs.

Range was Clean, there was .22 brass on the ground that I had to clean up when I got there. But over all well kept and very secluded. I recommend bringing a Stapler or something to prop up your targets at there are none there.

Beautiful view in the fall. Weather can change rapidly, so pack a rain jacket!
