Never felt unsafe day or night. Staff are brilliant, one of the cleanest hostels I’ve stayed in. Good facilities, always something on in town, or plenty of chill spots in the hostel if you’d rather stay in. Would probably go back. Thanks for the best 1st week in aus!

Horrible sleeping Situation, the "beds" are 3storry bunkbeds, made from scrapmetal, the topbunk has no real ladder, it's dangerous to get up/down. If you have to take the bottombunk you sleep on the ground, that's right on the ground. There is no space between the bed and the floor. Toilets and Showercabins are made from cheap wood without a finish, water gets into them and makes them bend so they don't close anymore. A girl got locked inside because of that. The Kitchen has only 1 stove for the whole Hostel! You have to wait forever to cook your food!! If you try and tell the staff/owner something about the flaws, first thing they do is ask you If you want to leave? Ofcourse without a refund. The hostel looks pretty on the pictures but is "ugly from the inside"

I made a reservation with them and the day of the check in I went to their reception and they told me there was a mistake on the system and canceled my staying forcing me to leave. They didn’t even apologize. Not only I arrived to Melbourne without knowing where to stay next, but it’s been two weeks and they didn’t give me the refund. Tried contacting them by mail, phone and instagram and I have no response. It’s a shame people still choose this place where they have no idea of costumer service. I highly recommend looking for another place, there are plenty of good options, and this is by far the worst. I’m not judging only by this terrible mistake, but I inspected the facilities and everything is so dirty, old and bad lighting. I have no other option than calling a lawyer.

Stayed here during opening week and couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. The location was perfect, right next to the F1 track and close to all bars and restaurants in the area. Rooms and all facilities were really clean, and the staff couldn't have treated us better. Definitely recommend.

Not clean, I had a used condom on my bed when I arrived!!! The rooms are tiny and some beds are on the floor! Not recommended at all!!

Accommodations are good, kitchen is great with coffee bar, clean, 24 hours reception. It was good to come back after 3 months and nice that Ellissa receptionist recognized me 😊 Great place. Don't worry ask them they are so helpful

This is one of the strangest hostels I've stayed at. It has the potential to be an unbelievable stay but i get the impression the money has been spent in the wrong areas. THE GOOD: The common areas are fantastic. There are lots of good places to sit and socialise with lots of air conditioning keeping it at a good temperature. Pool table and xbox one Good location just off Fitzroy Street. Bathrooms are excellent and kept very clean. THE BAD: kitchen - this could be put in either section, the the equipment and table are great for food preparation but there is one oven with 4 hobs for use for everyone in the hostel! This is less than I have at home and cooking can be an issue. Bedrooms - triple bunks that are in average condition at best with pretty thin mattresses and no plug sockets available for most people. It did have aircon but placednin a stupid location firing at only one person so was turned off before 10pm. Luggage - they charge 10 dollars per person to store your luggage after checkout which I think is very harsh. Overall I was a bit confused, the place looks great but all it needed was a bit more money spent on the bedroom and kitchens to be an excellent hostel.

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hostel for a few weeks before finding our own place. Tim was extremely welcoming and very helpful. We loved our stay here, definitely a top hostel! The beds were comfy, everything was well equipped and clean. Would 100% recommend to stay!!

Very good hostel, we stayed here for three nights and it was perfect. All is clean and you will find everything you need at Bayside. Welcoming, available and caring staff ! I recommend 100% !

Every step of the way was problematic. No debit machine so I had to walk a couple blocks to go get cash, my key didn't work properly, the mattresses were just thin foam, they came into the room at 11 at night to vacuum then again at 9 in the morning to rip the room apart. They increased the rate by 5 dollars even though they were closing the hostel between 10 - 4 and everyone had to vacate. I'm sure all of my clothes have bed bugs now and I witnessed the manager having an argument with a girl where she told her to "shut the **** up". Worst hostel experience I have ever had to be honest.

Great little hostel for the F1 weekend, couldn’t have been closer to the park. Stayed in the opening week after the new owners took over and they couldn’t do enough to help with everything! Would definitely recommend the place to anyone looking for a place to stay in Melbourne without breaking the bank!!

Good place to stay,,,apart from that I actually had the private room,,,on the ground floor,,,finding it a bit noisy,,,,with the common entertainment room just outside my room door. Room is ok,,,but the walls were half plaster,,with a fair few black marks,,,,half brick,,,being on the window side. Got given earplugs anyway,,,which does help,,,but the tv is no go in the room,,,as there,s no antenna connected,,,no particular wall outlet port...which is real strange,,,and no air-conditioning,,,,but at least a wall fan,,,which did reasonably well with cooling in summer. The room I thought to expect was a lot better shape in the pics,,,but unfortunately not the case... As I had booked a private room some 3 months in advance,,,I thought I would get a nicer private room on one of the upper levels,,,as I had seen in the pics at the time I had made the booking,,,but got an old private room on ground floor instead,,,which looks like it,s only half completed..

Stayed here through the opening week for the Grand Prix. Staff were friendly and helpful, the facilities were clean and it was in such a great location! Short walk to the beach and bars in St Kilda and Prahran. Would highly recommend staying here.

A great place to stay at, the only real issue was that their prices go up when a special event occurs in Melbourne, then back down when it is finished. Like most backpackers, here in Melbourne. It is good that it seems to go up for everybody no matter how long they have stayed for, but I would hope they find a way to reward people who have been there for a while. Perhaps wise to pay for a longer stay on an app when a place is at its cheapest, as booking apps will just use the rate when you first stay there. It does get pricey in supposedly the cheapest room when you stay there during a Melbourne event though, too pricey some would argue as their space is shared by a lot in a smallish dorm room. I hope their greed does not stop tourists from staying in Melbourne!

Very expensive night for terrible service and quality. Private room cost so much for Saturday night, our welcome greeted us with no receptionist, when the receptionist was found he rudely threw the room card straight at me without offering any information as to where the room is, check out times, WiFi .. all the basics. No towels offered to these rooms, the room still had rubbish from previous guests on the floor including chocolate bars and water bottles, all in all, a pretty depressing stay and waste of money, really only choose this if it’s a last resort, for backpackers with dorms, it might be a easier feeling but those days are past me.

The good things about this hostel nice common area with Xbox and pool table ! The beds could be comfier and the showers could do with a mop for guest to use after their shower. Ellie the receptionist really does a good job!

Great hostel nearby all the good spots. St Kilda is the best bit of Melbourne and the CBB is not far with tram. The hostel has a social vibe, I met great people here. Also friendly stuff and all clean.

I stayed at Bayside house over the weekend and found it very clean and welcoming. The shared spaces were inviting and all ammenities were great. Tim the manager was friendly and very accommodating. He went the extra mile to make sure my stay was relaxing and enjoyable. I will definitely be back.

I have stayed at this hostel for over 10 days and it has been very chill, comfortable and clean place for a hostel. I would recommend staying here if you are visiting Melbourne or wanting to use this place for temporary accomodation. This place is worth the stay and price…especially in st kilda. The manager was very helpful with my early check in and off hour calls.

My stay at Bayside was very pleasant, the private rooms are great, comfortable and clean all you could want! Location is spot on! Common areas great for socialising and watching movies.

Worst night ever. I literally can't sleep, people made party all night, room smell so bad. Actually if I go out of my room I heard music and people scream, if I stay inside, I heard the road and some racing with a bad smell. If I come in a hostel is to first have a rest. People not care of other for sure.

Stayed here for 3 nights as I had a tournament in St Kilda. The facilities were amazing...clean and comfy room and bed, free wifi, clean shared bathroom space. Definitely will be staying there again in the future! Thanks Tim!

I called this house and a guy said that a week staying in this hostel coast around 200$ . After crossing complete Melbourne with my stuff I arrived on the hostel . On the reception was the price 280$ / week ( what is for me around 300$ ) After staying 3 weeks I needed to book 3 days more . For this 3 days there charged me actually 175$ what is more than the double per night . Feel me not honestly handelt .

Perfect hostel if you are looking for a place to travel and meet new backpackers in Melbourne. Clean rooms, heaps of entertainment (TVs, pool tables, Netflix) and great vibes. The weekends are a highlight and the managers (Liam and Ellie) are always running game nights (pool tournaments) making it heaps of fun. Allowed to bring and drink your own alcohol in house too! Highly highly recommend.

Big kitchen , small laundry, lots of communal spaces ( pool tables, TVs couches big table area and reception at ground level. upstairs private rooms bathrooms and a few communal areas.. We arrived early hours of the morning and was still able to check in and get a bed which was perfect after a long journey, the couple that run the hostel are lovely and very happy to help with any questions, the hostel is very clean and very sociable we’ve had a lovely time, there is free cereal and coffee which is handy when on a budget! They are always hoovering and cleaning the hostel. The location is perfect only a 15 minute walk down to st kilda beach as well as only a short tram ride into the centre of Melbourne! They have created such a lovely atmosphere here, would definitely recommend staying here!

Absolutely loved bayside stayed there quite a lot when I was in Melbourne for 5 months most social hostel I’ve been too met so many amazing people there, the staff, Tim and ash are awesome thanks for all the memories!

The Hostel its okey, but the problem its that everything is so dirty. No toilet paper, always dirty bathrooms and in my case i reserved a room for 9 other beds and they put me in one with 12 saying that the others are just for emergency, that the beds are not occupied (that was not true)

Stayed at this hostel for 3 months and ended up making friends for life who I am now travelling with including many others who still stay there. It's a very chill hostel and easy going. Plenty of showers and toilets, I have never been sat waiting on someone to finish up. The staff are lovely, very friendly, and able to have a laugh. Had the best time in Bayside. Stayed there for almost 3 months and met so many great people. Tim and Ash were always so helpful whenever we needed anything. Have to also mention how amazing Ellie was behind the front desk, so friendly and helpful. Couldn't recommend this place enough.

My boyfriend and I chose to stay here so we were close to the beach and Melbourne CBD and it was the best decision. Hostel is in an amazing location just opposite st kilda junction tram stop so you can hop straight onto the tram into CBD, or you can walk to the beach and into st kilda town. Staff are very friendly and helpful, giving us recommendations on things to do whilst we’re here and can have a good laugh with them. They’re cleaning the place everyday, common area was our favourite part as there’s a pool table, couple tv’s, loads of places to sit and chill out. Plenty of showers and toilets we never had to wait for it, kitchen has plenty of space too. Has washing facilities and free breakfast which is always a nice touch. We made some great friends here and we’re sad to leave, would 100% stay here again, we really enjoyed it.

Great hostel with modern style and a nice location. Kitchen is fully equiped with everything you need to cook and bake your own meals which will save you a ton of money in Melbourne. Beds are not the most comfy but reasonable for hostel life. Bathrooms are very clean and theres always an open shower or toilet which is very nice to never wait.

Well... If you want to completely at home away from home in the best location in Melbourne, I would highly recommend Melbourne Hostel! Alizee has been beyond exceptional! Especially with her coffee! Feels good to be home!

No soap or towels in the toilets. No kitchen towels in the kitchen. Mattress is less than 5 cm thick. The sheets I was given were heavily stained and staff refused to change them at first. No space for people's stuff in the rooms. No lockers in the room, only in the kitchen. No plugs by most of the beds. No curtains. No hooks or anything to hang your stuff. The facilities are generally clean and most of the staff is friendly.

I stayed for 3 night and on the second night I noticed a few bites on my back but I thought it must have been mosquito bites. On the third night I couldn't sleep with the itching and literally could see bed bugs on my pillow. The next morning I woke with my back,arms and legs were completely covered in bedbug bites. The place is disgusting!! Avoid at all costs!

Worst hostel ever! The owner is very rude and not respectful! The rooms are def not comfortable. Stayed in a 9 bedroom with 3 layers bunk bets. You feel every single move. Bathrooms are dirty and the stuff is very rude as well. Not recommend to stay at all!!

I’ve stayed in hostels for the last 10 months and this is the first time I’m compelled to write a negative review-in other words it was that bad! When I clicked ‘book now’ on their website WITHOUT selecting a date it automatically charged me for that night. Immediately upon receiving the confirmation email I phoned the front desk to notify them that my booking was intended for the following night (therefore they DID NOT have to send anyone away). The front desk was unwilling to help so I spoke directly to the owner upon arrival. The owner assured me that I would NOT be charged for two nights and left. Later that evening my card was charged. When I explained the situation to the extremely rude lady at front desk I was told ‘’that’s just the way it is” and that apparently the owner had given her the go ahead to charge me DESPITE our conversation. She claimed that the owner “misunderstood” what I told her even though I went thru the incident with her STEP BY STEP. In other words, the owner lied to me and/or if she was ‘confused’ was too cowardly to approach me to discuss further. This hostel has dodgy business practices. I’m would not recommend this hostel to anyone!

We stayed in a 9 person room which was horrible, tiny with 3 triple bunks crammed in. There was about 1m floor space which between 9 strangers is not enough. Also there was no ventilation in the room (window didn’t open) and it was BOILING but the hostel owner said it wasn’t hot enough to turn the air con on! Eventually we were given a fan but it was so unpleasant, hot and stuffy. I also got bitten really badly, convinced there were bed bugs here too. The kitchen was dirty and none of the kettles worked.

Nice clean hostel with three tier bunks in the dorm room. Lots of cosy little places to chill, free breakfast. Kitchen and fairly clean bathrooms. Just a bit weird that the staff will come hoover your dorm or want to talk to you after 10pm...

This place is terrible, they will quote you one price then double charge your card without your permission for whatever price they see fit. Please if you have stayed at this place, check your bank statements. I was paying a quoted amount for my partner and found extra charges of $18+ on my statement. They didn't ring for me for permission to charge my card for these transactions nor did they inform me of any price change. They seem to think that my partner signing the terms and conditions without me seeing them is enough, which is completely against the law. They also think they have the authority to steal from your account when needed so don"t bother ringing as they are very unprofessional swearing and carrying on when you tell them about it.

(Original) 中国人别来这地方，他们不断的删除评论。或者就找借口说你不住在这地方。我在这住了两周。这地方招前台只招英国佬和法国老，所以这两波人通宵开派对吵的人睡不着你也没法投诉，因为职员大部分都是他们人，老板管都不管，放心吧工作也基本不会给中国人。凡是你还得听英国佬动不动骂你婊子，但凡你还口就会被他们一群人一起说。价钱也虚高，给中国人收的钱比白人多。他们经常在背后说人坏话，说中国人蠢。英国男的还偷拍中国女生洗澡。也有霸王条款，容易被宰，比如地上随便让人给你扔一个屎，说是你拉的，然后收你一百刀，没见过比这更吸血鬼的地方。法国人前台说英语也辣鸡，只要他们听不懂你说话就说你英语不行。整个st Kilda的这些hostel都差不多这个样子，这里尤其严重，中国人赶紧去中国城附近找找hostel

The worst hostel i have been so far, we got there with my boyfriend who booked 2 beds in a 6 bed dorm, when we got there the recepcionist said that we had one bed in a 6 bed dorm and one in a 8 bed dorm, after a while of talking and showing her the booking she managed to put us in the same room but i assume that is not always the case, te room had a terrible smell, the mattresses were 10cm thick and hard as a rock, none of the 5 days we stayed had hot water to shower, we saw the same receptionist doing “hosekeeping” which consisted of her changing the pillow and the cover (not sure if they washed them) but not the fitted sheet, so i am sure they don’t wash the sheet. The kitchen only had 3 pots for the whole place and insufficient amount of everything. The floor of the toilets is always flooded. We were on the first floor and we could hear the party going on every night so not a pleasant sleep. You can definitely find a better place for the price

Wouldn't recommend for female travellers. Don't get a mixed dorm here if female. Staff where friendly and location was nice. Room was really smelly and not cleaned properly. Dirty bed sheets with crusty stuff on it.
