Selina St Kilda is so far the best Hostel I saw in Australia (and I’ve been in 4 AUS states) 1. The room are clean, tidy and with much more space than usual room in hostel 2. Kitchen fully equipped with space for cooking 3. The staff is wonderful , very welcoming. (Big thanks to Jorge for his wonderful work in the hostel , especially the street art tour he organized every Wednesday , you can’t miss it) 4. Many activities « ice-breaker » if you’re shy (collage , meditation , mandala , Mexican party , salsa dancing , yoga …) So yeah , this is definitely the place to be. Thanks Selina !

I came here to this place without much of an idea of what I'd been getting into. The atmosphere is relatively welcoming considering I was dropped off from the airport in a new country at a hostel. Without knowing what to expect, I found that I generally liked the interactions here with guests and staff. Part of my experience involved being hired on by the hostel, I won travel discounts for tours and some of the staff really went above and beyond in helping me organize travel. I stayed here for a few weeks, had a very unique experience of which I doubt I will ever forget. Keep up the hard work because it really does matter & thank you.

It’s a really nice hostel to stay at. It has a super friendly and kind staff that helps with your matters, a cafe where you can have breakfast with a very friendly assistant and the beds are very comfortable and they have curtains to provide your space and privacy. The only think that’s not that good is the kitchen which is very small for the amount of people and things like food disappear there. But overall is a very good hostel.

I had a great experience at Selina St Kilda. If you are looking for a location that is not as crowded as the city center, and close to the beach, this hostel is perfect. Beds are very confortable and I had a very good experience staying in a 6 bed dorm. There are different activities going on and the vibe is great, kind of a little family. On the other hand, kitchen is not very spacious but it does its job, bathrooms are missing, in my opinion, some essentials like hairdryer. Overall I had a great experience.

I’ve spent an absolutely fabulous 3 weeks at this hostel. Huge shoutout to Miguel, Rob, Miriam, AJ, Annie, Fraser and the rest of the staff! (all of them are very nice people and willing to help and answer questions) Location couldn’t be better, in the middle of laid-back St Kilda, and within 25 min of the city center. Woolworths supermarket and laundromat are within 4 mins walking, it never takes you too much time to get anywhere. I wouldn’t describe it as a party hostel as lots of the guests are very respectful of others and don’t make too much noise at night, so I had some good sleep there. Another huge plus is that the beds have curtains so you’ve got decent privacy. Even though many people mind their own business, it’s not hard to have a good time and make friends, just go down to the bar and join some of the many evening activities. Met some people who taught me much about Australia and had great stories to tell. The kitchen is great compared to other hostels, I’ve always had all the time and space I needed to cook and eat. The living room is large and you can hang out comfortably, chat and watch Netflix there. Long story short, it’s clean, tidy, social and calm. Would 100% recommend, till next time.

Overall a great hostel experience for a week! If you’re wanting to spend time in St Kilda then this is the perfect place to do so! Comfortable dorms with plenty of privacy, way more social than I imagined (met so many amazing people), tons of cool events, and super cool/friendly staff with one exception; The female Canadian receptionist should seriously consider a back facing role, as she scores -10 in terms of manners, politeness, and general communication skills (basically everything you would think someone needs to do a customer focused role). What I encountered was someone who misunderstands and miscommunicates, yet gets frustrated at others for her actions (or lack of). I thought she maybe just had a problem with me or I caught her at a bad time, but having heard similar complaints from 4 other guests, I guess that’s just her general demeanor. Which is really sad, because all the other staff were really amazing! But it was clear this particular lesson just didn’t ever want bothered, and would make snarky comments at any guest who dared to ask a question, which made me personally avoid approaching her for the duration of my stay after the first day - not exactly what you want from someone who is supposed to be there to help guests enjoy their stay! I recommend avoiding her as much as you can if you want to fully enjoy your time here.

Arrival: Upon arrival I was greeted by a new guy who was pretty new to the St Kilda gang. He seemed very lovely but it did take him a while to get me checked in. 15 minutes later I was still standing there waiting for him to tell me what was happening so perhaps better communication from him in the future would come across more friendly to new arrivals. Rooms: When checking into my room, the room was super spacious and the beds were definitely the best I've had yet, with lockers above the beds and space underneath too. The best bit is the curtains to allow for a bit more privacy when wanting to chill in your room. The walls are PAPER-THIN though so you can literally hear everything from the corridors/out the windows from downstairs. If you're on the bottom floor, you're pretty much stuffed cause I would class this as a party hostel and you're never gunna get much sleep. People: The people at this hostel seemed really friendly. I did bump into a lot of Dutch people though and in my opinion are not the friendliest. The hostel hosts events most nights - pretty much 100% of which involve drinking. So, if you're a non drinker it doesn't really cater for us. I was mostly looking forward to the day-time events but these were cancelled for no reason so that was pretty disappointing. St Kilda Team: The cleaners are really lovely and got a really good vibe from all of them - there was one particular guy from Columbia who was an angel! As for the Canadian receptionist, you should get another job... sorry but being front-of-house is not your skill - you are so unfriendly and made everyone feel so on-edge. The tall skinny guy on reception was also really sweet. Location: The location is right by the beach, only a 5-minute walk so really great location and also right by the tram station.

I love this place, the staff is so helpful and friendly, very multicultural. The cleanliness is really top notch, like an invisible 24hr team. The rooftop bar is just amazing. The receptionists had so many helpful tips. Really enjoyed my stay, will return and recommend it.

Absolutely lovely hostel. Incredibly nice staff, great coffee and lots of activities like yoga or trivia-nights. Spacious interior, a reasonably big kitchen with communal fridge storage. Very much a family-like community held together by all the great people who live and work here. The hostel is a bit more expensive than others but you really get something for that. Communal spaces like bathrooms and the kitchen appear to be cleaned multiple times a day. On Christmas eve the staff cooked a great Xmas dinner and organized a game of bad santa. From my experience the dorms are spacious and clean, the beds have curtains, lockers and drawers. I've extended three times so far and I think I'm going to stay a bit longer.

Great stay! The place is colorful, with a bar and coffee in the morning. Lots of different sitting areas, social spaces, or individual tables if you need your space. I found it very comfortable to work on my computer. The micro room was super comfy and cute. Big thanks to Maria, who was really understanding when I asked for a different room and was able to accommodate me! Also great yoga session on the roof top for free!

The rooms are nothing like the photos. Stayed in a private room with shared bathroom. The window was broken and couldn’t be opened and the photo showed a nice modern room however our room was very run down and damaged. The bathroom on our floor weren’t great, one didn’t lock as the lock had been ripped off and this was the only bathroom with a shower on our level. The other one was okay but slightly dirty and had a large window that didn’t have a privacy screen or curtain and looked into the building opposite. The hostel was very social and the social area was used quite a lot, the kitchen had good amenities and there was space for everyone. Sometimes you would be waiting a while for a hob but never for too long. The location was great was close to a tram still to access other areas of Melbourne and just a short walk to the beach. Having stayed in a number of Selina hostels I was quite dissatisfied with the standard of this one but for what we paid I guess it was okay.

Cosy, cute, great location, unique and very clean. I was in a private room rather than the hostel part of Selina St Kilda, and found it to be perfect. When I arrived the staff informed me that my room had been upgraded to a deluxe free of charge! Such a lovely surprise. Didn't end up needing my tablet to watch Netflix as the room had a large smart TV. The bed and pillows were clean and comfy, plus the aircon was strong and quiet which helped on warmer days. Decent water pressure for showers, nice gentle products for hair/body wash. The staff are patient and kind, the atmosphere is very relaxed, despite the reputation of hostels in general I found guests to be courteous, respectful and friendly. Was nice to walk down to the lobby and see people enjoying the small café and bar section, as well as a common room for people to have movies nights and a decent kitchen for guests to cook freely (which is a lifesaver cash-wise as nobody wants to eat takeaway every day!). The room itself was clean, spacious, and the bathroom was spotless. There's an accessible rooftop which is a great spot to socialise or unwind. Free wifi with good speed and connection. It's super close to a lot of great food spots, right across the road from a Woolies and from the tramline (incl. Direct trams to the CBD) which made things super convenient. Short walk down to the Esplanade which is great fun on Sundays where you can browse the markets (10am-4/5pm). Also a short walk to Luna Park and the beach. Will definitely be staying here again next time I'm in Melbourne. P.s. the signature Selina cocktail is GOOD

Wouldn’t recommend. We stayed in a private room for two nights so I can’t speak to the dorm experience. Rooms were cramped, bathrooms dirty, aircon broken, complimentary drink tickets for the bar only applied to bottom shelf items. Mostly longer term residents which detracts from the typical hostel vibes. Saving grace is the location is convenient to rail and business district

  • 1/5 Morgan F. 3 months ago on Google New
Location was nice, although, the service was horrific. The receptionist was not willing to have a conversation at all irregardless of that being their job? At the bar there were multiple staff members who were sitting and no one spoke to me to serve me at all. After standing at the bar a solid 5 minutes - (myself being the only person in the bar other than their possie), one of the staff asked me what I wanted and I responded and was then belittled for asking for something that was not mainstream and asked multiple times if I knew what I were asking for. The shared bathrooms were horrific. There were wet towels all over the floor, wet face washers in the floor of the shower, the sink was blocked with something and full of water, the toilet was filthy, as well as an overflowing bin, no toilet paper and a smell that was ungodly. I would not recommend to stay here if you are looking to enjoy your time - and feel comfortable.

Location and service were all amazing! They offer many activities that are available for sign up as well. Kitchen is a bit small, but overall a really decent hostel.

This is my first hostel I have stayed in. I think it only goes downhill from here. Selina st Kilda is absolutely brilliant. I would 100% recommended. Marnie is the MVP!! Ronald, Fraser and Hugo pull a perfect pint!! 10/10 👍

Really lovely place. Great staff and always fun activities happening. One of the cleaners (who is also named Selina!) helped me to find long term accommodation after I moved out. Would definitely recommend this spot 🐨

The rooms are sick they have a little curtain on them which is cool I haven’t seen that before, beds are comfy, they provide breakfast at 2 times in the morning. The en-suite in the rooms are great and there are toilets located on each floor which are also at a good standard. Rooftop is brilliant for a chill and great socially as people hang out there a lot. Overall a great hostel.

Amazing hostel! I love staying at Selina. The staff is really friendly and welcoming especially Jo at reception helped me with many things and made my stay very enjoyable. Has a little bar as well with the best bartender Alon! 🥳🥳🥳

There are places with good facilities & bad service. There are places with bad facilities & good service. Then there are a few unicorns - good facilities & good service. Selina St. Kilda is that unicorn. Best Hostel in Australia, PERIOD. A big shout to Steve & and the team for the wonderful management of the hostel. Beds/ pods/ capsules are the most comfortable ones I have come across in Australian hostels. Clean, compact, and lively hostel. Special mention to Hugo, who makes the finest cocktails. "Selina Sunrise" is my personal favourite.

Was staying here for quite a long time and enjoyed it so much! All the staff there became like a second family for me. The beds are unbelievably comfortable and the curtains are an amazing idea. The beach is close by and you’ll see the most stunning sunsets😍

I stayed for 3 of my most enjoyable days, great and happy staff all round. My room was fantastic, very clean, amazing shower, comfy bed and a real homely feel. Can't wait for when I come back. I could not recommend them anymore 😀

What a fantastic hostel! From the first moment waking into the door the staff were so friendly and accommodating! Steve (the manager) runs the property with professionalism and is surrounded by such amazing staff. Special mentions to Tim who runs a great event program for all guests! Such a fun hostel with so many activities! Mia is a fantastic bartender who makes an mean martini! Love you guys and thanks for making my stay so enjoyable! 10/10

+ good hostel with friendly staff + short walk to beach, supermarket over road & tram stops on door step + mostly quiet so easy to sleep + great value bar & cafe - micro room felt awkward & cluttered. also not cleaned properly on arrival - socks under bed & rubbish in corner. I found decorative pillows too big for the room size & it lacked hooks or hangers. - top floor shower room has broken door & window. not comforting especially for solo female travellers. - no visible bin on terrace so table gains litter.

I recently stayed at Selina St Kilda and the hostel was beautiful, the staff were super friendly and so helpful. The room was so clean and comfortable and the common areas were spacious and extremely inviting. The community spirit around the hostel is amazing, I felt so welcome and getting involved in the events they have on each day/night really helped me meet new people since I have just arrived in Australia. I would recommend this hostel to anyone travelling Australia, the location is brilliant only a short walk to the beach and the main high street! I will definitely only book Selina for when I next visit Melbourne!

Propably best hostel I ever stayed. My room was very clean, bathroom too. There was even sofa and heather in my room. Common areas also very nice and clean. Simon was a big help. Highly recommend!

I stayed in this hostel for 5 months and the chill atmosphere made it the perfect place to stay long term. The community on the rooftop felt like a family and made me love every day! Side note the beds are good with a curtain and 2 plugs.

Really old building that the hostel is in but it’s well kept, big dining room and multiple lounges with TVs and beanbags to chill out on. The rooftop was pretty cool. I wish there were bbqs up there all the time!! Really liked the room I was in, lots of great people. The bathroom facilities were always really clean which is great considering how many people are in the hostel.

Loved my stay here! The staff is awesome, always smiling and super helpful. The vibe in the hostel is friendly and is very easy to meet people. Free pancakes, bbq are great way to meet people and they are so yummy!! Definitely will be back

Small room and good vibes. Well looked after place. Such a nice hostel with cool people. GOT streaming was amazing and I met so many new friends. Moved to one room together and had the best time. Happy hour at the hostel made our stay extra zappy. Will be back soon

I’m a little bit older than most of the backpackers in this place but I still had a great time. I enjoyed the little lounge beside the bar, (and the bar!) for a little quiet time with a book or a beer. Comfy. My room was pleasant and cleaned regularly. Clean linen was available whenever I wanted. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Thanks.

I've stayed here already twice during my trip in Australia and both times had to extend a lot because I've enjoyed it so much! Not a party hostel, but very easy to make friends because of all the events. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. Beds are awesome, they're pretty new and have curtains. Kitchen is well equipped. 24h tv-room is amazing! We've had so many movie nights there. Also in a good spot - close to the beautiful St Kilda beach and next to the shops and tram. Awesome place!

  • 5/5 Jasmine A. 5 years ago on Google
Amazing Hostel with amazing staff ! The rooms are clean, the beds have curtains for privacy and power banks above them. The staff go above and beyond to help you with anything ranging from travel and tours to general reception. The free breakfast is great and the kitchen is always clean. The best part is having Luna the hostel dog roaming around everyday. Super Cute ! Thanks Nomads for a great stay!

  • 4/5 Ashley H. 5 years ago on Google
A nice hostel, it's very social, although not quite a party hostel it always has people drinking every night. The lack of air conditioning in the summer was a problem the rooms were unbearably hot most nights (going through a heatwave) but would be a good option for the winter. The beds are comfortable and having plugs and USB ports in your bed was a huge bonus. Location is very good but can be quite loud. Most of the staff are really decent and helpful. The kitchen is a bit small for the number of guests, the bathrooms are clean and plentyful.

This hostel was great value for money. My friends and I stayed here for the time we were in Melbourne and we al had an absolute ball. The staff were friendly, beds were comfortable, location was great close to trams and supermarket was just across the road for us to purchase any supplies we needed or were missing. The little bar that they have was a great inclusion as it meant we could all get to know others in the hostel and share a bevy or two or three. Would definitely recommend! 5 stars!!

A beautiful hostel in a beautiful location. This hostel is one of the best I’ve stayed in, in the last 3 and half years travelling Australia. Rooms are spacious, and all facilities are very clean! Staff are all very welcoming and helpful! You can tell everyone cares about working here! It’s a peaceful but social hostel and would defo stay again.

Got a 6 bedroom with 6 of my friends. Clean and comfortable. Good common rooms, snacks and coffee and a bar available! Absolutely amazing showers- super hot water and excellent water pressure!! Only loss of a star was no air condition in the room when it was hottttt as heck outside but we opened the window and tolerated it. Lovely employees. Walked to the beach. Would stay again.

  • 5/5 Connie 1 year ago on Google
Lovely clean hostel with very comfy beds (2 pillows!). The women’s shower facilities were fantastic and had a powerful shower. The hostel was not very social so the various social events are a great addition. I really enjoyed my tour of the night markets with Jorge!

  • 4/5 Heather M. 1 year ago on Google
Selina is in a good location and the rooms are clean with a privacy curtain for each of the beds. The kitchen has good facilities however the common room has limited seats and people were often sleeping on the couches leaving no space to sit and eat. If you are a solo traveller it is not the most sociable hostel so I would keep that in mind. We did go to the summer markets with Jorge Quintero from the Hostel which was a great experience and I’d recommend it to fellow travellers.

  • 5/5 Michael 1 year ago on Google
Wonderful place to stay: CLEAN, beds were spacious, comfortable and private. Dining room is somewhat small and bathrooms were clean and on every floor. Bar is wonderful and staff were great. NOTE: This is worth spending the end A$10-20 compared the bad ones in the area - you know if you know.

It was quite nice hostel! Room and bed is comfy, blanket and pillows are clean, and front desk members were really nice and friendly! Also hot water came out well in the shower. But the kitchen was little crowded, and shower booth and toilet was bit cold but okay! Nice experience!

  • 5/5 Joanna T. 1 year ago on Google
This hostel is amazing. Super clean, beds + pillows are comfy (yes, they give you TWO pillows!), the vibe is so right - everyone is so friendly so its easy to meet other backpackers and new friends! They have a cute rooftop and lots of events - like meditation and mandalas with Carolina, Gallery visits and city walks with Jorge, Salsa on Fridays... super fun stuff with friendly, knowledgeable staff. I came alone but left with heaps of new friends. I couldn't be happier with my stay at Selina! xx

Popped in to explore this charming hostel and was informed there was live music on the rooftop. Ascended the well worn majestic staircase to find a charming sunny rooftop bar area featuring an amiable and talented Irish folk singer and a warm-hearted friendly bar tender. Hope these Sunday concerts become a regular thing. Picked up a delicious falafel on the way out. I would def recommend this establishment to travelers and locals alike. Great location. Great green paint job.

This hostel was fantastic! The staff were really friendly and great vibe around the whole place. Even a coffee shop down front. Julian was a fantastic bartender and even put decorations out the night we were there. Free drink on arrival was amazing and was so close to public transport. They had activities every night and tours if that’s what you’re after. Would stay again.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Selina St Kilda, and I can confidently say that it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment I stepped into the hostel until the day I checked out, the combination of exceptional service, lively events, delightful staff, and comfortable rooms made my stay truly remarkable. First and foremost, I must commend the receptionist (Judith) for her outstanding service. Her warm smile and welcoming attitude created an inviting atmosphere from the very beginning. Judith's efficiency in check-in procedures and her willingness to assist with any inquiries truly stood out. She went above and beyond to ensure each guest felt valued and at home. Her knowledge of the local area, including the best places to go out, was invaluable in making the most of my time in Melbourne. One of the highlights of my stay at Selina was the daily events organized for the guests. The hostel's commitment to creating a lively and engaging environment was truly commendable. Every day, there was something exciting happening, from wine tasting to live music performances (and DJ), cooking classes, and sports. These events not only provided an excellent opportunity to meet fellow travelers but also allowed me to immerse myself in the local culture and forge lasting memories. Now let's talk about Julian, the charismatic barman at Selina. Julian's infectious energy and cheerful disposition made every visit to the bar an absolute delight. He effortlessly created a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere where guests from all walks of life could relax and enjoy their evenings. Engaging conversations and laughter were the order of the day whenever Julian was behind the bar. When it comes to the rooms, Selina excelled in providing a comfortable and cozy environment. The room temperature control was spot on, ensuring that guests could sleep soundly even on the coldest Melbourne nights (yes! Australia can be freezing!). The clean and well-maintained accommodations offered a sanctuary to unwind after a day of exploring the city. The comfortable beds added that extra touch of comfort that made the stay truly exceptional. Selina is more than just a place to rest your head; it's a vibrant hub where travelers come together to create unforgettable memories. With the exceptional service at the front desk, the daily organized events that bring guests closer, the infectious good mood set by Julian at the bar, and the comfortable rooms ensuring a restful sleep, this hostel exceeded my expectations in every way. If you're looking for a unique, engaging, and downright fantastic hostel experience in St Kilda, I wholeheartedly recommend Selina. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

I stayed in Selina for two nights the last November when I first moved to Australia, the hostel is pretty good nothing to say about. I booked for the entire month but I’ve been really like and I found a room to rent after 2 days in Melbourne (and we know how difficult it is to find one) so I moved out after 2 nights and asked if I could have a refund of my booking and they said NO, which I can understand it’s the policy and everything but since I payed for the entire month and I stayed just 2 nights I was expecting at least a refund of the 3 weeks that I didn’t stayed In.

I’ve had a great stay at Selina St Kilda and highly recommend!! Amazing customer service from Maria and AJ who went above and beyond during my stay. Massive appreciation to them both. The hostel itself is super stylish, has great amenities and was spotlessly clean throughout my 9 night stay.

We stayed at Selina St Kilda for 10 days. Before arrival we upgraded our room from a dorm to private room. Both Maria and AJ were brilliant in helping us through this process making it very easy for us so huge shout out to them. The location, the hostel and the staff were brilliant. I have stayed in many Selina hostels around Australia and would highly recommend them as a hostel group. However, the staff and service at St Kilda were beyond exemplary. 10/10

The best hostel I’ve stayed in! The beds are comfy and you get a curtain for privacy and usb charger in the wall, the dorms are nice and spacious also. The whole place is so clean it’s impressive. The staff are lovely, warm and friendly. There’s so many areas to chill or hang out with other people. The hostel put on event nightly such as trivia, musical bingo which are fun and a great way to meet people. The hostel is social without being a mad party hostel making it very liveable. Selina sets the standard for hostels so high and it’s the only one I want to stay in from now on. Thanks team!

Love the Selina hostels, especially the St Kilda one! Hugo was super helpful with checking in, and the staff in general are just so friendly. Really sociable hostel but plenty of space to feel like you’ve got away.

Selina St Kilda is the best hostel I’ve stayed in yet. Rachael Bush absolutely made my time here! She was super friendly and a friend for life. Met so many amazing people who I’ve gone on to travel with. 10/10 for everything. Will 100% be staying here when I go back

This place is fantastic, staff couldn’t be friendlier, the vibes are great and super close to the beach. Rachael the housekeeper helped me find my belongings after I left them in the lounge. She really is a lovely person and very representative of the standard the hostel holds. Marnie the night shift helped me when I lost my key and couldn’t get back into my room. Fraser the bartender was also fab. The staff here couldn’t be any better really. Selina the housekeeper was extra special
