This was one of the worst dining experiences I ever had in my life. I wish I can give zero stars for that experience. My family and I decided to go to Chit Chat for dinner. After we were seated and received our menus, we were rushed to place our orders. I get the same thing every time I go to Chit Chat, the steak fajita bowl, and I was told that this item is not available because the menu changes after 8:30 PM. And because I was in a rush, I decided to get the buffalo chicken wrap instead. When our food arrived, I noticed that my wrap had bacon in it, and I can’t eat bacon due to religious purposes, so I kindly asked my waitress if she can change it for me and apologized for not noticing that the buffalo chicken wrap has bacon in it. My waitress said that she will have to call the manager for this reason and that’s the “diner policy.” Jose (the manager) arrived at my table and immediately started to talk to me with attitude and how it was my fault for not noticing that the buffalo chicken wrap has bacon in the ingredients when ordering food from the menu. After I saw his reaction, I was super mad and I told him to not talk to me with disrespect, and to get me another wrap under my own cost instead. After what Jose did, my family and I were in complete shock and just wanted to leave the diner immediately. With that being said, my family and I used to be regular customers of Chit Chat, but now we will never put a step inside of this establishment. There are plenty of other restaurants that will treat us in a professional manner and with respect. DO BETTER CHIT CHAR DINER!

If Alice in wonderland had a diner it would exactly look like this. Family friendly..I am regular for weekend brekkie.. coffee and menu is excellent.. the dinner menu has a lot to choose from and the cocktails are very well made. They make excellent French toast and waffles 🧇. Lastly don’t miss the little art outside they have beautiful pieces .. highly recommend this place.. plenty of parking

Cool vibes … a step above regular ones. Their food was good. Overpriced milk shakes though. Calamari could have been a little tastier/ crispier - but the food is exactly what you would expect from a diner with a somewhat creative menu. Also had no wait time.

This was my very first time going to the Chit Chat Diner. The outside of it didn’t really look like a diner though. I was a bit hesitant of pulling in thinking I was at the wrong place. However, parked my car and went inside, wow, it was amazing. Because I went during the Christmas time, the Christmas decorations were just beautiful and something I wouldn’t see a typical New Jersey diner do. Sat down and got my food, I had to say, the pancakes were absolutely rocking it along with the bacon on the side. Pancakes were very well cooked, nothing burnt at all, bacon, crunchy and very tasty. The fruit on top made it even better as it went really well with the meal. Service was also spectacular. The staff were absolutely friendly with greeting you. Asking if your meal was good and if you needed anything else. If you had any questions they were hesitant and always gave you an answer for your question and a lot more. They have a constant smile in their face as well which definitely made it feel more welcoming. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very pleasant. Clean seats, clean tables, smell of the restaurant smelled really good with the smell of breakfast in a nice morning with a cup of coffee. Soft music playing that really made it feel more comfortable to be in. This place was definitely a 5 star diner that I’ve been to. Definitely the outside not looking like a diner, but the inside was just something I wouldn’t typically see. I’m definitely coming back here hungry for more.

Found ourselves at Chit Chat diner on a Sunday afternoon follow a nice hike at South Mountain Reservation. The line was a bit long when we arrived (thankfully the lines moved pretty quickly), and the first parking lot was packed. They have overflow parking at the old bowling alley nearby. Looks like they are building a nice enclosed patio space. It will be very nice to enjoy a meal there when it's complete because the views of new york city are gorgeous from there. We made it in time for the brunch special which comes with a complimentary mimosa. The service was up to par, food was typical, pancakes were sweet and they are served in very cute individual-sized bottles. The chocolate cake was not our fave, Don't recommend. Overall would go again.

The atmosphere is too cute! Their decor is right on point. I had the cappuccino I wasn't to happy with it, the presentation was very nice tho. My plate was the rib, scramble eggs tacos it was really tasty. I like that they have a box of questions I think it's a nice way to have a conversation for first time couples or just a fun brunch with friends. I would definitely visit this place again.

Excellent menu, lots of variety like any jersey diner, but the preparation is a step up from what you might expect. Definitely worth a visit. Manager checked in with us at the end of the meal even though every table was taken. They have their act together.

I give the place 3 stars because of how beautiful it is and the service. The food, we had dinner, was blah. Nothing extraordinary and looked unappetizing. I order a chicken gyro, it was pretty much a Greek salad wrapped in pitta bread. The fries, are less than your average, looked and tasted like mc Donald’s. My sister had a Greek wrap, again nothing crazy. The burger looked so so bad it was presented so poorly. The calamari didn’t have any crumbs around it, it was the only part of my dining experience that was surprisingly good. Other than that, it was blahhhh!

A friend and I were driving East bound on I280. It was early and we wanted to have breakfast so I found Chit Chat diner from my mobile device and we jumped off the Interstate; arrived there in one minute. Once there we saw the building, which looks like a castle; and it probably is but I not a castle expert. Inside it the coolest dinner you'll ever find in this area! Food and service are on point and the know how to make a chocolate eeg-cream! If you like diners and food in general go visit, you won't be disappointed.

This place has an Alice in wonderland decor inside the restaurant and a Harry Potter castle vive on the outside with the New York skyline in the background. The food was good but we didn’t find an item that was special. My mother in law said her veggie burger is the best she ever tasted. I recommend everybody comes to try this place at least once to see the decor and have a good time.

Chit Chat Diner is definitely a worthwhile place to stop for any meal. Their menu is huge and everything on it is worth a try! I particularly like their burgers and also their sweet plantains. The service is fast and very nice. The outside is so fun with all the statues around and the inside is even more whimsical! When you walk in, you feel like you've stepped into Alice in Wonderland. On each table, there are also a bunch of cards with fun conversation topics. The windows have a beautiful view of NYC that is particularly spectacular when its all lit up at night. Parking is very easy and its right next to the I-280, so its convenient if you just need to stop and grab a quick bite. Their late hours are also very nice if you need to eat out at a more inconvenient time.

Met up with some friends for a late dinner. The place was busy but we were seated quickly and served fairly promptly. First, the ambiance and decor are spectacular. There’s even a great view of the skyline from the parking lot and some of the booths. However, the food left something to be desired. To be fair I ordered the meatloaf, which can be a wild card, and everyone else seemed to like their meals. The quality just didn’t seem there relative to how great everything else about the place was. Will give it another shot and order more traditional diner food. Overall, would recommend 3.8/5

We visited the chit chat diner for my mother’s birthday. This was my first time ever dinning at this location and it won’t be my last. Everything was perfect. We got to choose where we wanted to sit and what was most accessible for my 95 year old grandmother who is now handicapped. Our server was very informative on what we should get to drink (alcoholic and non alcoholic) and also what were the most favored on the menu. Drinks were perfect as described and strong (which we liked) I got the salmon and it was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. My brother got the New York Strip as was very satisfied and the birthday girl (mom) order the crab cakes and raved about them until we got back home. They were melt in your mouth kind of good good (we shared our plates). We got dessert and the whole restaurant team sang Happy Birthday. We had a very happy Birthday girl. Mission accomplished. I am very much looking forward to dinning there again. Very happy customers!

Came to visit family in NJ and my brother took me here and it was a nice place to come for breakfast and glad we picked this place. I was hungry after the flight and service was pretty fast, the eggs were done just as I like them “moist” not dry. Wish they served “home fries” but unfortunately they only have hash browns and I’m not a fan of it, in general. Regardless everything else made up for it. The coffee was good and refilled as often as you needed. The sausage also tasted delicious. Service was good, and friendly we were even talking to the guys that clean up the tables. They kept asking if we needed anything else, water, more coffee! Napkins, Very attentive. I was curious about their other dishes, maybe in future! 😎

Everyone raves about the decor of Chit Chat and it's for good reason but listen the good is so good! I got breakfast as I do at most Diners but my friends got real dinners and all of us were left satisfied and full! The drinks were also really good we had to send it back the first time because it was a little too sweet but they got it right after we asked.

I went with my Aunt to grab a quick bite to eat. I was thinking burger 👑🍔 king but... she's a retired Newark NJ teacher...and a fly seasoned grown Church leading Spiritual advisor; she only eating good vegan food. I eat it all. The food was great and the service was good as well.

The Chit Chat diner has great food and a variety of pasteries. The latte and the fried chicken and waffles were amazing. The menu is large and has several options from breakfast, brunch and lunch. The diner’s decor is different and unique, which gives it a nice touch. Its a must stop! It’s located next to a park as well.

The food and service was excellent despite it being a busy Saturday night! The only reason why I would give this place 4 stars instead of 5 is because the chicken fajitas were missing the sour cream and salsa they were supposed to come with. It took a while but we finally got the sour cream but never saw the salsa. All in all a great experience, would definitely come back.

I went to the Chit Chat Diner on Eagle Rock and really enjoyed the food and ambience. I chose the outdoor dining and they served the food in heavy duty plastic containers with lids that could also be used for takeout. They had disposable paper menus and the table and chairs were wiped down everytime someone left and a new customer arrived. The food portions were very generous and the purified water was served cold and refreshing. The waitress was also very pleasant and the food was served promptly. It was a very delightful experience and I highly recommend them.🌷🙂🌷

This place is charming and full of character. It's what makes it memorable. The menu is impressive in terms of selection, but at the end of the day it's just diner food - great diner food though! I've come here a few times, but most recent I had the "bro-nana cocoa-nuts" pancakes and they were pretty good! They had a bit too much of a nutty/grainy consistency, but I guess that's what I signed up for. I had a bit of my friends' french toast and it tasted amazing. Definitely getting that for breakfast next time.

Food was okay it was good but they forgot to give us sides, and forgot to put some things in my sandwich that I asked for. The service is so slow, it took more than 30 minutes for our food and one of the guys days 20 minutes isnt that long but we had been sitting for over 30 minutes waiting. The server was a bit rude and didnt look like he wanted to be there. The smoothies tasted watery but the alcoholic beverages and shakes were good. The place looks beautiful and for that I will give 3 stars. I definitely expected more.

Chit Chat was great! I absolutely loved the scenery, the views and the cool theme giving “Alice in Wonderland” vibes. Theres so much to look at, the service is great and the drinks are a little pricey, but worth it! I ordered eggs Benedict and there were egg shells under my poached egg, but the server was on it, they replaced my meal within 5 minutes. I understand these things happen and I was not upset as it was handled properly and in timely fashion. Also not to mention the food was yummy! I will definitely be back here again!!

Overall great ambience. Service was good. Our server was Brittany. Only ordered appetizers (7) which were delicious. Had a Picotini drink made with rum but tasted like a fruit juice so was disappointed. Spoke with manager to change the drink to something else which wasn't an option, however the manager Mike offered to have it remade and it was MUCH better the second time around. Someone else had a blue lady drink which looked pretty but not very tasty. Lemon drops were good but missing a sugar/salt rim which would have made it even better. 6 people, bill was @$260 tax/gratuity included.

WOW!! Just…WOW!! I am visiting N.J. from Texas with my mom, and googled brunch. This gem popped up, and I am beyond grateful that it did. It is very much “Mad Hatter” or “Alice in Wonderland” themed! We were greeted by Gus!! Gus is HILARIOUS. He walked us to our to our table, made us laugh, and really set the mood for a GREAT experience!! Toni from Jamaica was our server, and he was spot on. The service was lightning-fast. He recommended drinks, food, and dessert, great job, Toni! The food…AMAZING!! This place 5 stars, hands down!! The food, the staff, the view, SPECTACULAR!!! 🤩🤩🤩

Crazy good food! Place has an Alice In Wonderland vibe, great view of the city outside. But the food is the real draw. Delicious breakfast, best hash browns I've ever had and an extensive, creative menu. Highly recommended, worth the wait on the lines that often grow outside the building.

A true treat as we went to the Chit Chat Diner in West Orange NJ on a Saturday afternoon before Christmas. Located on top of a hill overlooking the New York City & Newark skylines in what appears to be an older restored building. Very popular location where you might have to wait a bit though they do have some available waiting seating. Our group of 7 was pleasantly served by Javier, a phenomenal waiter who committed all our orders to memory without any snafu’s. I ordered the Raspberry & Brie stuffed French toast that came with 2 eggs, sausage & Taylor ham (all pictured below). And as a brunch my meal included a Bloody Mary cocktail! (Other drink choices available). Our group had a patty melt, Hawaiian Salad, buffalo chicken sandwich among other things. Everyone enjoyed their food. Restaurant was clean & nicely decorated and everyone was very friendly. Plenty of parking available and is handicapped accessible. Definitely worth experiencing!

Chitchat Diner in West Orange offers a wide variety of food options to cater to different tastes. The menu is diverse, and there's something for everyone. The food is not only plentiful but also quite tasty, making it a satisfying dining experience. The diner's decor is impressive, creating a pleasant ambiance for patrons. Additionally, it boasts a beautiful view, which adds to the overall dining atmosphere. One notable advantage is that Chitchat Diner is reasonably priced, offering good value for the quality and quantity of food you receive. However, it's worth noting that I visited twice, and on both occasions, the service wasn't top-tier. While the food and setting are great, there might be room for improvement in the service department.

This was my first time eating at the Chit Chat Diner and the interior was like nothing I have ever seen before. Everywhere you looked was a beautiful detail in the design. The diner is also in a great location, and you can see an amazing view of the city from the back. When we arrived, we were seated right away and given out menus to look through. There was such a wide selection of food to choose from, but I ended up going with a classic cheeseburger and french fries. Our waiter was very sweet, when I asked for no coleslaw he brought me two extra pickles on a plate instead. They also had these adorable "chit chat" cards on each table with little conversation starters. If you are nearby, I would definitely recommend stopping in for a bite!

5 stars! I don't really like diners but I'm starting to warm up to them! This one was nice!!! I walked inside and it was bright and warming! I even took a video of the bathroom! It was so clean. Very busy on a Monday at 1:30pm but I understand why! Food was delicious. Drinks were good and the dessert was awesome! Manager responded quickly when my guest was given a drink with blueberries (we didn't know they would garnish it and she's allergic). We just switched drinks to prevent inconvenience. I took a picture of receipt because I knew I would forget what we ordered. For 2 people, we spent about $100. Expensive but it's ok once in awhile.

AMAZING place! You won't know where to look first-- from the cute statues outside, to the tasteful decorations inside, the seats, chandeliers, wall hangings, and all the colors and patterns-- it is this ADHDer's dream eating place 😁😂 it is seriously so cool! And that is just the decor! I've been there with my family twice now- and the servers are the SWEETEST! Amazing service! I always tip them about 25+% because they're truly outstanding, always attentive. The food...omg. the food 😭❤ go there for brunch, order the pancake tacos- and you can thank me later:) we shared an app platter too last time which was delicious! As was their chocolate cake 🤤 They even have little "chat" cards on the tables to ask fun questions! All in all, this place gets 100 out of 5 stars! Might be on a little higher price range for some as compared to other diner fare-- but is worth EVERY PENNY and is for good reason! Portions are huge, service is excellent, quality of food is top notch. Go, go, go! Adding this as well: just 2 minutes away is the most beautiful look out of the NY skyline and 9/11 memorial! Definitely need to check out:) I believe it is called Eagle Rock!

Worth the visit! Very solid confirm food - a long list of varied breakfast options, the scrambles and the stuffed French toast were delicious. Fun interior vibe reminds you of Alice in Wonderland and a NYC skyline view.

This is a very unique diner with Gothic, Charles Addams vibes. Supposedly channelling Lewis Carroll and Alice in Wonderland (I don't see that), the service was impeccable, food excellent, and interiors interesting, if not bizarre. It seems that they put out Design Toscano's catalogue as the exterior is every piece of sculpture they ever made, arrayed in a bizarre homage. There is a story there, but I am not sure I want to know what it is. The views of NYC in the distance are to die for.

The service was impeccable and the inside was really nice and clean. The food was yummy. It seemed a little pricey but it was such a cute vibe. They even have these little cards on the table to ask each other questions. Still it is just a diner and I don’t think I would go back here simply because of the price. If I’m paying that much for food I’d rather go somewhere that would offer a more elevated experience though this place is really nice.

We love Chit Chat! I've been many times and the service has always been exceptional, as is the food. My daughter and I had dinner earlier and the food was great and the whole team was super attentive. As soon as we finished our appetizers, the dishes were cleared from the table, water was constantly refilled, and both the server and the manager were checking in with us and the other tables to say hi and make sure everything was good. I can't wait for the new addition to be completed so we can eat outside! I'll be back again and again as I have been for years.

This is a beautiful place with fantastic service. Kid friendly too! The atmosphere is BEAUTIFUL! Very Alice in Wonderland vibes. It’s on top of a mountain so pretty much no matter where you sit, you get a view of the landscape down below and/or The City. The food is always good. Errors (not often at all) are always corrected right away. The servers are super nice. Definitely recommend!

Loved everything about this place from the decor, service, atmosphere and the food! Unfortunately I was on a liquid diet so I was limited to what I could eat. When COVID19 started everyone was scared to eat out.Since March 2019 I did not visit any restaurant or diner because of the anxiety of the virus (by the way I'm a Covid19 survival) Recently I decided to take my family on a treat and "Chit Chat" was it for me. They observed the CDC guidelines and customers service was swift. The food was affordable and delicious...waffle waffle waffle and chicken. Enough parking space too

Honestly I am not satisfied at all with this diner. The food was super dry, the customer service wasn't good and it definitely was not worth the price. Weirdly enough the chit chat diner in hackensack is very good but the chefs at west orange really suck. Would not recommend at all

An absolutely amazing experience, all the way from when we were seated, to check out. From the food, to service. The food was amazing, and my hypothetical French soup(my server, Andrew would understand) was so delicious! I 10000% recommend dining here, I it is a great atmosphere filled with amazing food and people. Shout out to my sever Andrew for the top notch service! I will definitely be back

Love this place. The decoration is really lovely. I’ve never been to a dinner like in the movies until I found this place. It’s big spacious and I just love the vibes and the theme. I went for brunch and it was sooo yummy!!! My hubby got simple eggs bacon and hash browns and he loved that he asked for crispy bacon and he actually got that. Many times when he asks for it they don’t give us that. Coffee was excellent! We also ordered a cake but by this time I was so full I only tried a piece and it was very moist. A little on the sweet side for my personal preference but everything else was just perfect. Service was great, fast and very kind people. In overall I regret not finding this place sooner :( but so happy I did!!

I love this diner. It makes a perfect spot to meet some friends for brunch or to have a quick dinner. We live down the hill, so my family used to come here quite often before the pandemic (now we order!). The food is always delicious, the service is terrific, and the place is always spotless (even the bathrooms!!). Definitely recommend it.

Great service until I'm about to pay, at around 9.59pm Sunday night I kindly ask is theirs a Veterans discount while showing my VA ID and the clean cut South American young man looks me up and down and says only when in uniform.

Had a ladies night and decided to check this place out after the movies. The atmosphere was very nice. We went at night time and the restaurant has a beautiful skyline behind it. Service was great. But unfortunately our food was not good 😿. We had wings for an appetizer (yummy the sauce was supposed to be spicy and mango flavored) but the entrees were not up to standard; taste wise. I ordered the meat loaf, the appearance was the worse. It had a slice of burnt cheese on top (the color and appearance was extremely unpleasant, it looked dry) It came with a side of gravy but I didn’t know about it because it was served with my friends platter. Another friend of mine had wings, not only lacking in flavor but extremely dry. Nonetheless we let the server and manager know and they were accommodating. And brought out a few new options that taste much better!! Would I go back..ehhh probably not for dinner ever again (food significantly lacked flavor and presentation) but im willing to try breakfast, so I think I will give them at least one more try: the interior decor was lovely as well! If your in Essex county try them for breakfast and see if you have a better experience Love, NJ Native
