This is the worst REI location I have been to. There is always a long line at check out, to the point I have put back items because it was not worth waiting in line. But my biggest compliant is the returns department. I tried to return an item that was supposed to be waterproof. A month into ownership it was starting to wear more quickly than expected but I figured it wasn't bad enough to return. 7 months after purchase I finally decided to return them as it was no longer waterproof and useless to me. REI declined the return saying it was too worn out. I rarely used this item and wanted to return it because it was wearing out much faster than expected and not worth the $200 I paid. Not accepting a return after 7 months devalues everything in the store. I wouldn't have paid $200 if I knew I could return it if it broke within the year return policy. If anything this is a manufacture defect since it is no longer waterproof and should be able to be returned at anytime. I am strongly reconsidering all REI purchases after this encounter. REI - if you read this please explain why a leaking waterproof item 7 months after new is non-returnable for REI members. Thank you.

I'm unsatisfied with the bike tune up service. We picked up our bike after ten days and it wasn't cleaned at all. I've had two prior tune ups and they always made it feel and look almost new. In the future I'll try local bike shops.

No idea who is running this company but every year the shopping is experience gets worse, and every year I spend less money. Not long ago you could walk into any store, find multiple options, and friendly helpful passionate people available to make you feel good about spending money. Not any more. Far less brand options, but worse is less made in USA stocked than ever before. Products you expect to be in stock frequently out of stock. Saddest of all is how stores no longer have the employees to help you. I was happy to pay more for the in-store shopping experience with experts who have used the gear and experts who have passion. The employees no longer care. I just expressed my concerns respectfully in the store and the clerk told me to tell someone else who cares. REI you are sad and pathetic now.

I have mixed feelings about this review. The bike servicing was good. I was told it would cost $80 for a bike up with another $15 for two inner tubes. If anything else was needed, I would be called. The next day around noon I was called and told my bike was ready for pickup but instead of the $95 I was expecting I was charged $163. The brake pads cost $42! Overall very disappointed as I think I was taken advantage of

Shoe department service was really abysmal. I explained in detail what I wanted, and store personnel had absolutely no information about the differences between shoe brands or models. It was like I was dealing with an employee who started yesterday with no training. Shoes are a specialty and I would think that a supposedly premium dealer, like REI, would have more knowledgeable people on staff.

Today is November 10. I was in the Boulder location today and they’re expecting me to wait in line for 45 minutes six customers ahead of me that wanted to get their skis and snowboards waxed who were having to also wait in line anybody could’ve just dropped off and been gone I just wanted to cable for my bike. The lady at the front told me she couldn’t help Losing a $5000 customer over a seven dollar cable doesn’t make much sense By the way, Crystal snowboard and ski shops right next door they’ll never make you wait

REI is the best outdoor store. You won't freeze to death if you buy your gear from them. The only reason I'm not giving it five stars is because I think they need a few more people on the floor answering questions. If you already know what you need the gear is all there.

I've been an REI customer for decades. It used to be an awesome outdoor gear center. Over the last 10 to 15 years, I've really noticed a drop-off in customer experience. The returns process, which used to be great, has become miserable. The "membership" is pretty low quality in terms of rewards, compared to most other credit card / shopping out there. I do believe that once REI established dominance in the sector (after running many local shops out of business), REI was then able to pivot towards profit maximization. I've been irritated with REI for may years, but my experience today finally prompted me to write this review. I went to buy few things, was mostly not able to find what I needed, and then I had a terrible check-out experience. Dylan was the checker, and he was vocally annoyed at several routine steps of the check-out process. He deserves blame, but I also suspect the management does as well. Being actively rude and condescending towards customers as they are completing a purchase is totally unacceptable.

The manager of the ski shop, Brett, and his team are top notch professionals. I had a warranty issue and they took care of me so that I could make my ski trip while the warranty issue was worked. I honestly think this was my best experience as a customer ever. I’ll be buying many more skis, boots, and bindings here for years to come. Thanks Brett!

Helpful and friendly staff. Great at helping you find what you need. REI store brand is usually a great deal for many different items from apparel to camping gear. Membership offers a 10% rebate at end of year based on total sales.

Jenn was fabulous! We talked on the phone and set up a meeting. My purchase was a bit complicated, but she arranged everything, including talking to a manager and getting my package ready for when I got there. She did a good review of the item for me and discussed options. A great employee and kind person. Thanks!

REI branded products are much lower quality than competitors. Only comes with one year warranty which they often refuse to honor. Does have somewhat okay selection of other brands though.

I've enjoyed shopping in the Boulder REI store many a time over the years. I always seem to find what I need, or stuff that I don't really need, but want to buy regardless. I haven't needed expert help, so I can't really speak to that aspect of the shopping experience. I would say that I was a bit surprised that the bike section didn't have a larger selection of bike relate stuff. This is Boulder, Colorado after all, one the the cycling Meccas of the U.S. I also was a bit surprised that the climbing department didn't have a bit more equipment selection on hand.....as rock climbing is the other thing that Boulder is known for.

Came into the store on Saturday night interested in buying my first pair of skis. Warren was extremely helpful and taught me about picking the right skis. Warren was extremely knowledgeable and made the experience amazing. Thank you so much, Warren, for helping me find my perfect Nordic skis!!!

Just got the most adorable Keen water shoes for my granddaughter! I also found some quick dry pants with the help of a truly wonderful sales associate at REI. She was totally knowledgeable and incredibly awesome! REI is never short staffed. They always have the nicest people working there. Then when I went to check out, the friendliest and funniest cashier I have ever experienced made paying fun! This store is da BOMB!

Dropped off my board to get tuned almost 3 weeks ago (only tune on Wednesdays right now). I even called ahead to see if it was ready to pick up, which they informed me it was. I show up and the rental staff handed my board NOT TUNED. Two staff members both thought it had been completed! I’m glad I immediately checked it over at the counter and said it had not been touched. The edges were dull as they were when I brought it in, no base grind, and no wax. I will say, the rental guy was nice about the situation. I am concerned why two employees both thought it was complete and did not think to look it over or check anything. I am frustrated that I drove over and I had to tell the staff that this is not a tuned board. Not sure if they need a sticker put on the completed boards/skis to help mark them. But they completely missed tuning my board in that timeframe.

Excellent, helpful customer service. :) I came in to purchase a backpack and sunglasses this evening but had some problems with my credit card (the bank thought my purchase was fraud) that made the transaction take a long time. Tristan was my cashier and was helpful in providing me some advice with choosing a day pack and then was extremely patient and helpful while I was having the card problems and even eventually helped me solve it!

Shoe selection is okay. Where they fail is in customer service, speed and available staffing. I went to this place at 12pm Wednesday and Thursday and on Wednesday it took 20mins to receive help and even then was only able to see one shoe and on Thursday 0 help because the person was busy w planning the shoes to someone who wanted 3 pair and also had another customer waiting and then me. My request.was not taken because he had to go to the back. No problem. This is where I think m it’s beneficial for the staff to call on support knowing there are others around the store not helping anyone. Really wanted to buy something here but was unfortunately unable to. I do not recommend this location if you are pressed for time.

Always a great experience. Seems like a small thing, but they fixed my sons tire on a strider bike (pain to change yourself even was for them) for the cost of a tube. Being a member works out on that one and the other bike stores don't even carry the tubes.

REI is convenient for some outdoor gear. The Boulder location has a pretty decent selection of things, although many staple/popular items are often out of stock due to the extensive foot traffic. For most gear, smaller cottage industries produce better things, but for an in-person experience that probably has something that'll work, stop on by.

I felt like I needed to leave a review because everyone was so helpful and kind at this REI location! I asked one person if they could help me find a sun hoodie and I think I had at least 5 employees finding my size in different places in the store. They were all great, definitely a good experience!

Compelled to write a review because Sage, who works in climbing, was so incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. Sage was informative and kind and excited about us finding rock climbing as a new hobby and guiding us through getting our own gear. They were neither deterred/annoyed by our lack on knowledge nor belittling, which can be common. They also pulled probably 15 different pairs of shoes and was very thorough. Thanks, Sage!
