My husband and I visited Little Africa after accidentally discovering it on Maps. We saw that it had a high rating and thought we'd do two things – experience great food while trying a new cuisine for the first time. Needless to say, the food was a revelation. We had the Vegetarian Combination for Two (which serves a bit of all the veg dishes, not just a few choice ones), and we loved it. With its just-right portions and mind-blowing taste, it really took us on a journey. We'll definitely go back for more!

The food here was ok. The dishes themselves tasted great and the bread was really soft and took in all the sauce! Unfortunately, the plate just felt a bit underwhelming. We ordered two dishes, and it felt a bit empty for the price.

Came here for my son’s birthday. We were first customers. The menu ain’t extensive. Just an A4 page. We took the combinations and some individual dishes. First time here and first time taking African- Ethiopian The food was good. Very filling and delicious.

First above all, food is amazing! (We ordered Goat and Aletcha with recommended beer) The service is great too. Especially, we were served by a man, he regularly checks customers and kindly recommends food or drinks if you need help. It was first time to try Ethiopia cuisine so asked how to eat. He smiled and showed us how to eat 🤣 His smile is so lovely! Highly recommend!

Amazing little hidden gem. Best Ethiopian/Eritrean restaurant I've even been, portions are very generous, prices are fair and the owner is such a cool guy. Highly recommend it! Will come back for more.

It's our first time trying Ethiopian food and OMG the flavours just blew our tastebuds. We had the combination of the day so that we could try as many different items in the menu. You get 3 meat items and 3 vegetarian items. We had fish, goat and chicken for the mean items. I love the fish and chicken most. I don't normally eat goat but I tried and I didn't mind it. Overall it was an amazing experience. The portions may look small but there was definitely more than enough to eat. Would highly recommend the combination of the day if it's your first time trying this cuisine.

we ordered the combination platter for 2, and I was apprehensive about the lamb dish as typically don't take lamb due to the gamey smell, but their lamb was INCREDIBLE. everything was delicious, but it was a pretty long wait - we had to wait about 40 min from ordering to receiving our food but we didn't say anything as we sympathised with how there was only the one guy serving the entire place on a packed Friday!

Food was magical and filling with fantastic flavours. We ordered the combination of the day for 1 person and the lamb dish.

Curries were all so flavourful! We shared a combination between two people and it was very filling. Our top three were the fish, chicken and flava beans. If you had to pick just one dish I would highly recommend the fish one - the seasoning was perfect paired with the injera and the fish was so soft to eat!

We got the combination for 2 people, 57$, great price for the quantity, and (seems) authentic taste, for someone who never tried Ethiopian food. This is a must try, everything was super tasty especially the fish and the chicken, reminds a bit of Indian curry!

A tasty meal in a cosy setting with great service and a mellow vibe. Very good value for money and interesting new flavours. Make sure you try the goat!

Delicious and affordable Ethiopian and Eritrean food. The owner of the place was really nice and helpful with explaining the dishes. The injera is really good and is a nice contrast with the other dishes. My personal favorites were the ful and the fish curry. Would definitely recommend.

My first time trying Ethiopian food, definitely an experience. The guy who served us (maybe the owner) was very kind and welcoming and guided us through the menu. We ordered the platter, where it comes with injera and some curries to eat with. For me the fish curry was my favorite. Would recommend! Oh, and try their beers as well.

We ordered a Vegetarian Combination for 1x person and 1x order each of Dhoro Zhigini (Chicken) and Lamb Zhigini. Vegetarian dishes are very good and actually better than the Meat dishes. I found that the Lamb Zhigini was dry but the Dhoro Zhigini is really good. Their COFFEE IS ONE OF THE BEST I HAVE TRIED. If I could have another I would, but unfortunately it won’t make me sleep for the next 10hrs 😅 Waiting time for food is really quick, but because we arrived at 5:30PM and were the first customers there. Staff were amazing and accommodating. The place itself is clean. Really well supplied of sanitizers and soaps. Toilet is probably the cleanest toilet I’ve been in restaurants here in Melbourne - No jokes.

Food was amazing. Couple of the dishes were quite spicy but very tasty. Very flavoursome. Traditionally you eat with your hands which gets messy but they do supply cutlery. Only had a couple of staff so service could be a little slow but wasn't too bad and food still come out quite quickly. Venue is on the smaller side so preferably book beforehand but amazingly decorated.

I wish I could give more stars, came here with my boyfriend to try out, and it was the best food I had in a restaurant in a long time! We had the combination of the day, we cleaned the plate, literally, the chicken and the beef, so tender and delicious!! The lentils, the beans, everything, it was so good I cannot describe, I can just say Glorious! Even the gin and tonic was really good. (We didn't ask the name of the waiter on Sunday 11th, but he was so nice and had patience, and we appreciate that!) We are planning on going more often as it became one of our favourite places. Highly recommended!

AMAZING Eritrean cuisine! I highly recommend one of the combination plates so you can try a few dishes. The injera (sourdough savory pancake) is fabulous. Atmosphere is upscale but relaxed. Great service. This place is the real deal!

Absolutely loved dining here. We ordered the vegetarian tasting plate for 2. Everything was delicious, generous portion sizes, and the service was phenomenal. Definitely recommend to all!

Really nice food! We ordered the combination of the day and it’s enough for two people. The date cake is also so good!

I really wanted to like this place but it disappointed me in too many ways. The host was genial and efficient and gave us a good table but in an African restaurant I would expect some cool, African music vibing in the background to set the right ambience not 50's rock and roll messing with my head. The food was palatable but nothing outstanding and I don't like eating with my hands...no dramas...cutlery provided. I am vegan, so I really wanted this place to surprise me but the surprise came not from the food and its premium pricing but from the extortionate mark up on corkage and wines. The Rose we had costs $12 in the bottle shop...we were charged $39!! Sorry guys, you've lost us and I'll warn everyone I know. What I'm seeing is some lazy, sloppy presentation with avarice, capitalizing on the naive trust of people wanting a unique "Eritrean" experience. You really need to lift your game...there are so many better Vegan places to eat.

Dinner Little Africa Restaurant serving Ethiopian cuisine. I got the combination which provides 3 dishes each from the veg and non-veg menu chosen by the chef, along with injera, a fermented thin pancake like bread. A big tray is presented and once the lid is lifted one is wowed by the array of dishes on top of the injera: Fish Fava beans Lamb Lentils Chicken Vegetable Salad Hand sanitiser and serviettes at the table, clean your hands, pour yourself some water, and then get stuck in as there is no cutlery, use the injera to scoop up the food and enjoy. Enjoy I did, the meal is absolutely fantastic and blew me away with the delicious use of spices to create flavour without being intense. That slightly sour injera is soft and spongy and also helps to mute the flavour of the other dishes in a good way. It's just a lovely combination. The lamb is spicy but not immediately apparent, it builds. I love the fava beans. The chicken is immersed in a butter sauce which presents this rich buttery ooziness. Totally satisfied.

Very friendly staff. Awesome food. Ordered dorho zighini chicken was well cooked and delicious flavours. Ethopian coffee was bit bitter but some unique taste. The ambience makes you feel their culture as there are some antiques on the walls. Felt heart warming. The toilets are clean and some ancient painting in there too which felt nice. The staff was so nice as we ordered one extra dish and then we were full so cancelled it but the staff allowed us to cancel it. So nice gesture. The portion is satisfactory enough to make you full. Would definitely visit again and try other dishes.

Easily my favourite place to eat in Melbourne. The food is always superb and tea with kammam is delightful. The service is great and the food comes out so quickly. Would recommend to anyone.

Had the mixed platter for one and was delighted by delicious mix of meat and vegetable stews served on top of the fluffy, spongy injera. We especially enjoyed the lentil stew, broad bean stew, and chicken. A wonderful little spot for filling our bellies with African food.

Food was exquisite! The service is great and the place is very clean. Prices are good for the amount of food. Overall the whole experience is fantastic. It is in the favourites list, can't wait to go back again!

Went on a whim and the food was delicious, never had Ethiopian before. My spice tolerance is pretty low and it was definitely a fair bit out of my comfort zone but was a good level and I managed. Super flavourful! We got the combination of the day for two, a lovely variety of meat and vegetarian. Server was friendly and the interior decoration was great. Thanks!
