I've been to many Gyu Kaku locations and this is my favorite one! The interiors are cute and has service is great! (Although they did forget one of our orders) The appetizers are so much better than other locations for some reason. Would definitely recommend this place!

The service, the decor, the quality all remind me what I had back in Japan. HOWEVER, there were still some dishes may make you frown. The fried chicken was not juicy as what I expected, the coating was more than actual meat. The sushi... If you don't know how to make one, just don't pretended that you know how to... the rice just fell apart even I picked it up with my hands.... But back to BBQ itself, it's amazing. And the udon, you will be surprise how good that is!

We ordered the BBQ- chef's set. I was dining with an actual chef so my only job was official taste tester. Hahaha. The service was swift and warm. We had time to enjoy all the meats. Each having a subtle difference in taste. We had 2 salads, one mixed and the other spicy cucumbers. The fried rice was mixed with great care at the table (by our server). We were offered sauces but to be honest, the meat was seasoned to perfection. Additional sauces were not necessary. The dessert was smores... a fun way to add childhood memories to an otherwise adult meal. We will be back. Only adjustment would be offering hot green tea rather than iced. Wonderful experience. Thank you!

We got the meat lovers set ($70 for two - but it fed the three of us). High quality meat and a good variety of appetizers. Excellent service. The waiter checked on us regularly and made sure we were having a good time. Would definitely come again!

The sirloin and yaki-shabu sweet soy tare beef were tasty, the takoyaki was good too! The music here is like a 2010 pop playlist and itโ€™s a bit expensive for my budget but I really like the experience of cooking my own food, itโ€™s a nice place to go out for a date

I went for the lunch because their lunch menu is way cheaper and it comes with two meat options, miso soup, salad, and a large bowl of rice for $13.99. I was satisfied with the amount I was given. The meat quality was good. Iโ€™m Korean, so I was basing my experience at Gyu-Kaku with kbbq. Itโ€™s very similar, but I felt like there wasnโ€™t anything special or different with the meats. Kbbq is marinated in a sweat way, so itโ€™s unique, but Jbbq seemed plain. You do get 3 sauces to dip the meat. I enjoyed my meal and I think itโ€™s worth checking out, especially for their lunch menu!

The lava cake was crazy good and it had such a perfect ice cream ball. The cheese corn is also very good, it was very unique and flavorful. Very buttery as well. I would definitely recommend getting those and coming here. Yummy

The food is amazing no matter what type of meat you like. Everything is seasoned and sautรฉed to perfection. The food isn't over priced if you do all you can eat instead of buying each portion individually. Drinks aren't over priced and the service is always kind and helpful. This is one of the best Japanese BBQ places in Chicagoland.

First time having JBBQ and I'm very satisfied. If you are in a party of 6, the Shogun combo that they sell for 6 people is definitely a very good deal so I recommend you get that. The cocomo(?) cocktail was also veryyy good. My friends and I loved it so I highly suggest you get that!

I loved my meal here. Its fun to grill your own meat! I had the filet mignon and garlic chicken noodles and one beer and the total was only $21. That's crazy good for a restaurant like this in downtown Chicago. In fact when I sent pics to a friend he guessed the cost was double... Also I don't know if it was on purpose but the staff gave me my beer ($3.50) for free. Thank you!! ๐Ÿ˜Š

I think the atmosphere is really cute and clean but the food is so TASTELESS. Tell me why your restaurant has over 1k reviews and your food tastes so bland that itโ€™s actually crazy. After a few pieces of your chicken and steak and it made me want to throw everything I ate (and i did by the WAY) I just want to know why it taste like lime with chicken. Overall the atmosphere and staff are nice, but they just really need to work on their food.. (NEVER COMING BACK)

I was passing by and decided to try Gyy-Kaku Japanese BBQ. I had not made a reservation, but they were able to accommodate me. Thank you ๐Ÿ˜Š. I had fried calamari, fried pork dumplings, grilled some beef and pork belly myself with white rice and Napa Kimchi ๐Ÿคค. Yummy! I won't forget the hot sake ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿผ Until next time ๐Ÿ’ž

Typically order take out so I canโ€™t really speak on the service, atmosphere, etcโ€ฆ the food is usually good and sometimes the wait is shortโ€ฆ but this time I ordered take out and their was a hair in my food. I discovered this AFTER I had already ate some. I was so disgusted, because now Iโ€™m paranoid that I ate hair so I threw it up. The experience has traumatized me enough not to go back.

First time eating Japanese BBQ. Had the 3 meat selection lunch special which came with miso soup, a salad (it has peppers on it, so next time will ask to remove those), and white rice which I upgraded to a delicious (and generous portion of) garlic fried rice. I picked two different steaks and a pork to cook and enjoy at the table. They all tasted great even without the sauce options you can add at the table which include sweet soy, ponzu, and spicy. I liked the first two sauces, not a fan of anything "spicy" anyway. I wish I lived in Chicago so I could enjoy this restaurant more! (Was just in town to see the awesome band The Warning at the Bottom Lounge on the back side of the same block.) If I return to Chicago, would definitely repeat visit! Ask for Barbara, she took good care of this patron.

Great dish options. Fun concept. Don't skip the appetizers. Hit or miss on the portion sizes. Worth checking out.

Omg, the most delicious thing I've had in my mouth in awhile ๐Ÿ˜‹ lol. I love the set up and atmosphere. I thought us cooking at the table would throw me off but it was a lovely experience and the meat was delicious. Will definitely be going back.

This was second time at this restaurant, the first time at this location in the West Loop. We were a party of ten and they accommodated us promptly at our reservation time. The food is very good and our server was great. The menu is full of interesting choices. Itโ€™s fun to sit back and watch your family cook their food on the table-top grills. They even have sโ€™mores for dessert. Nice place to celebrate an event.

This was my first time going to this style of restaurant. The food was good except for the wontons.

New favorite restaurant!! The service was great, our server was so kind and polite. (He even gave me a free dessert because it was my birthday! I got green tea icecream soooo tasty) The entire lunch was delicious and the timing in which everything was brought out was perfect. So many meats to choose from and every one I tried was mouth watering and made you want more and more. No disappointment at all, definitely reccomend and definitely will be coming back.

I really enjoyed this place, its a new experience and really fun to get to grill your own food. The meat quality is good and the service was amazing they are very helpful and explained everything in details. Their lava cake was 10/10, loved it! Overall its a fun experience but if i was hungry it wouldn't be my first choice.

Lunch special for two is amazing! It provided plenty of appetizers, meat and even dessert to end the bbq! Service was very good. Server did not give us the lunch special menu and had to ask for it. If you go for lunch definitely ask for the lunch menu!

Went here for friendโ€™s birthday lunch. Everything was good. We even got the happy hour special. Four people. Bill was under $200 including tips. Still one of the best Japanese BBQ I been to. Only thing not so good is finding parking sometimes.

Iโ€™ve been here multiple times and it never disappoints. The food is great and so are the drinks. I usually get their lunch special which includes miso soup, a salad, rice, and two meats. The serving sizes are good and I always have leftovers.

Overall good dining experience. Appetisers came out quickly and the meats came out right after. Since they have a 2 hour time limit, itโ€™s nice that they were quick to serve. The minus star is for two reasons: 1. Like many businesses they seemed to be short staffed. So getting seated was a bit disorganised. 2. The meat slices are not consistent in thickness or size. So some pieces looked like โ€œscrapโ€ but still tasted good.

A very delicious and tasty experience. They are super friendly and will explain everything from how the menu works and it's courses to questions of the meat and foods you may not have tried yet. They check often to make sure you are happy with everything. Good prices for a great meal and experience. Great location great staff all around HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! ๐ŸคŒ ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿณ๐Ÿ˜˜

Really cool interior and the whole idea of cooking your own food at the restaurant on a grill. Huge assortments of meats, veggies, rice, and more to choose from. However, the meat isn't marinated at all and no sushi roll options at a Japanese Restaurant? c'mon man

Good place to eat Asian BBQ at a grill. I say Asian because it is a nice mix of different well known food. I will be back. Come hungry because there is a ton to choose from.

Service was top tier to say the least! I plan on coming back a few more times after this amazing experience! The meat lovers plate was perfect for two people, even with a little extras to take home as well. Drinks are delicious and the presentation of everything was phenomenal! I also love how fast and efficient it is to cook those delicious meats, and the marinade was so mouth watering! :)
