The hotel exploits young backpackers and makes them work several days and never pays them. Many victims. Cases have been opened with fair work. If you do not want to support the exploitation do not go to this hotel.

Really disappointed, Upon staying at the Menso - I checked into a room, first look that it was so nice! and then we found hair all in the bathroom, in the cutlery draw, & also a dirty sock and undies in the corner of the room, not to mention the mould all over the ceiling, spoiled milk in the cupboard 🤢 we complained and the receptionist made out like WE were being such an inconvenience to other guests and herself. anyway - she swapped us to a new room, SAME THING AGAIN except there was a dirty hospital band IN THE FRIDGE! i was so horrified. myself & my partner run a successful cleaning business, the states of these rooms were atrocious. Im not the one for writing reviews but I still haven’t received my $100 bond back after 1 month so i called and a lady named Susan answered, she kept saying that there was never $100 bond & kept repeating to check my bank account (i obviously had checked dates and everything prior to calling) she then proceeded to hang up without any real explanation. SAVE YOUR MONEY!

Made a booking and payed. Arrived at hotel an hour after earliest check in time to find it locked. Called management to be told they didn't take any bookings and to find another hotel. I'm pretty chill but the lady was straight up rude and I was clearly an inconvenience. Took 10 days to get a refund. Useless.

Good stay but didn’t get back my $100 security deposit. Enquired about it and they said 5-10 business days. It’s been 1.5 months…shocking.

Please do not stay art this hotel. I booked online at $450 per night for one night. When I arrived, I was horrified by the state & smell of the room. I immediately returned to reception & said I could not stay in that room. They had already charged my card before arrival $450 & then on arrival another $100. The receptionist was lovely & contacted the manager. A refund on my card was promised. I subsequently left the Menso & went to another hotel. On the next working day, I contacted the hotel to confirm the refund. The same receptionist was working & again confirmed the refund would be done that day. Late the same day, I called again to confirm the refund, only to be told that the manager (Susan Menso) had changed her mind & would not refund my card. Completely dishonest operators that are selling a very substandard product. I will dispute the transaction via my credit card & have canceled the card as they have the actual card details. PLEASE DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL.

Average overall - parking around the hotel is very limited and if parking on the street, be prepared for a walk. Check-in is therefore complicated as there is no visitor parking to stay while you are in the process of checking in. The shower in the room we stayed in was either freezing cold or boiling. Overall cleanliness was average as well.

If I could give a 0 I would. Appalled is an understatement. My girlfriends and I checked in and had a few friends over. First of all the whole room smelt of mold and holes in bath tiles. It came to 10 and we had not realized the time with music still playing. We got no warning when a resident of this hotel somehow had the master key and opened the door and started screaming. She was shoving us and punching us. She then proceeded to throw all of our belongings out the door and pushing people down the fire escape stairs and into the elevator. We had no time to clean or ensure we had all of our belongings. In saying that they took the bond and threatened to charge a $500 cleaning fee- which is not far seeing as we were shoved out with no time to clean. I understand the no noise after 10 agreement but the way this hotel resident managed herself was completely immature and disgusting. The fact residents even have master keys is disgusting and an invasion of privacy. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.

DO NOT STAY HERE! When we got to the room it stunk and the bathroom was mouldy and rotten. There were maggots on the floor and paintings fallen from walls. We spoke to the manager and asked for a refund and her attitude was so disrespectful and rude. She accused us of “bringing and planting the maggots”. She then belittled my fiancé and his work and questioned our integrity. She also belittled staff in front of us and blamed them for our experience. I was not planning of posting a bad review however after experiencing her lack of respect, I felt the need to warn others.

The reception was very rude, had no respect for privacy. My friends came over to stay for a few hours and I made it clear to reception that that was the case and they only knocked once before using the key to barge in, not giving me enough time to even get to the door. Payed $200 bond, never got it back. Made sure the hotel was spotless before checking out. Called numerous times asking about the bond, they kept blaming it on the bank. No wifi. See-through showers. Only good thing was the design of the hotel room, nothing else.

1 star only because no other option available. Despite being advertised on Wotif as service dog friendly, this hotel is anything but. The booking process was so traumatic that I ended up cancelling. They continuously referred to my dog as a pet, even after confirmation from my provider that we were legitimate. This company needs to become familiar with their obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 & stop discriminating against those who rely on assistance animals to manage their condition.

DO NOT STAY HERE!! OUR CAR WAS BROKEN INTO in the HOTELS “Secure Parking” A friend and I stayed for her birthday last weekend and it was the worst hotel experience ever. The parking that we paid $30 for because it was “secure parking” at the Menso got broken into. Our car along with another car both got broken into windows broken, and many belongings stolen whilst staying at the hotel. Hotel didn’t even contact us when they were made aware of the break ins, we went down to check out and found the car in that state. Hotel took no responsibility. If you read the previous reviews which we should have done, they outline many safety issues of this hotel. Our room was also not overly clean and had a bad smell. Please save your money and stress and do not stay here!!

Horrible, No customer service. Stayed two nights 24-25 Aug 2022. I arrived at 7.50 PM, there was no one at the reception. I called two provided after hour mobile numbers several times and there was no answer. After waiting outside for more than half an hour, I was lucky that another guest who was getting in helped me with providing the key locker code. building has one lift and it was out of service. Shower and toilet are to close and they are in open area without door or separator curtain. Taking shower makes the toilet area wet and unsafe. The management of this hotel has no idea what the hospitality is about.

Booked online via the website and received a confirmation email stating office hours were 6.30-8pm. Arrived at 7pm and called reception to check in as the front door was locked. Proceeded to be informed that they hadn't received the booking and too bad it's cancelled as there's noone available to provide an 'after hours' key. What atrocious service. Would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone.

Friendly staff, easy off-street parking (street is not busy, so easy to pull over and get checked in first). Room is large and clean. Kitchen is well-equipped. Overall very comfortable and convenient location for Brisbane Convention Centre, Southbank Train Station, and South Bank restaurants (also a few blocks from a Woolworths supermarket). I do not understand all the bad reviews for this hotel, I only read them after I booked and I was worried, but I can't see any issues myself.

They charged 400AUD per night. The fridge was full of stinking water. The bathroom is for disabled people while I am not disabled. The place is not close to being worth what they charge. The only good thing is its location.

1 star- Only so i could lodge this review. My partner stayed here in early December from Perth. He was told at check in he had to pay $100 deposit, which would be refunded on departure. We are still waiting on a refund. We have had no response from the hotel, phone number is disconnected and my emails have been ignored. I have Been down to the property 4 times in the last 2 weeks as I am now currently in Brisbane, and it looks like the place is abandoned. No sign of anyone, rooms are in darkness from the street at night. I have lodged a formal complaint with the Queensland government and am waiting on a response. I know its only $100, but how many people has this happened to??. Its the principal for me and the no response. Let's hope someone can give an answer.

BED BUGS - DO NOT STAY Doesn’t even deserve one star but it won’t allow me to leave none. I have been eaten alive by bed bugs during my one night stay and now have to go to the doctor for medical treatment given how bad they are. No wonder there is no one manning the desk for check out in the morning as they do not want to hear the feedback. I have sent an email sharing my experience and am yet to hear back. The hotel has tried to make itself appear modern but it is mutton dressed as lamb. All done very cheaply and clearly unclean and infested. You’ve been warned - stay here at your own risk.

Not good overall. I had to change the room because of terrible smell in it(room 306). Wifi is terribly slow and signal was bad. The gym... well the picture speaks for itself. They charged for loundry and it had to be paid with coins. They charged for coffee capsules. For a hotel this expensive i would expect these to be free of charge. Rooms are new and they look good and the location is great.

My studio room with balcony was immaculate. I appreciated the aircon and two ceiling fans in Brisbane's warm, humid climate. The dishwasher was a surprise bonus! Staff were friendly and helpful.

We booked the hotel. We arrived early. Checked in and got told rooms would not be ready till 2 which is OK. On arrival back at 3pm. Rooms were still not ready, the reception had to physically go and check the rooms and on return were told they were not ready or cleaned. Our room was changed and downgraded. On arrival to the room it was smelly, stained carpets and still rubbish from the housekeepers who looked like they had a quick wipe over of benchtops and replenished the toilet paper.... but left their rubbish behind. The lifts are very slow and at times would not operate correctly. On checkout we could not physically get to the carpark via the lifts as they would not go to the basement. We took the stairs only to find the Fire stair doors were key locked. Do not recommend for the price you pay per night.

No WiFi, no parking, Bar non operational rooms are tidy but overall not worth it. Will definitely book elsewhere next time. Before the owner says "you did not stay here" as they have done to many other posts. The booking wasn't in my name.

The reception ladies were always helpful. The room was spotless with everything in place. Appliances were integrated which added a nice touch. Bonus points for handwash dispenser next to sink. Not a fan of bar soap after using the loo. The kitchenette was well stocked with beautiful knives and chopping boards. Extremely impressed with the rooms and would highly recommend booking with them. Its a short walk around town as its hard to park your car in that area. I suggest ask them to reserve car space for the stay. I was sceptical reading the reviews but was pleasantly surprised looking the room. Thank you everyone to make our stay comfortable.

Nice clean location just a short walk from Southbank beach area. Would consider again if staying in the area. All necessities you need and close to public transport and southbank areas

Had a good experience although there's no actual gym I was able to use that little space on the 8th floor to do a body weight training session. The pool looked clean and looked after the bbq area was fine too, didn't get to use them due to the bad weather. A few minutes walk from shops and restaurants. Affordable too.

The Wifi was very unreliable and slow, often unusable. My measly 1-bar 4G was even better. There're rooftop BBQ, gym, and pool. Calling whatever that was a "gym" is an interesting word choice. The pool seems well-maintained and clean. Didn't use other amenities like laundry, BBQ, bar,... so can't comment on them.

Close to City beach and restaurants. 5 min walk to South Bank Station. Rooms facing the street can be a bid noisy. Clean rooms and affordable. My room had city views and balcony. There is a pool and Gym included.

Pretty average place to stay probably below average in terms of appearance. They charge extra for parking and then ran out parking 😅. Also no towels in the room.

Service here is pretty much non existent, we had a problem with a smell in our bathroom and it was not fixed well. To be honest, I’m highly disappointed with this place. It was lacking basic amenities, there wasn’t shampoo in our room or even a bottle opener for that matter. I work in a hotel and frankly I can see how a good hotel is run, this ain’t it. Will not be back

Room overall was neat and tidy albeit very basic. Robes were extra and there is no guarantee of parking, which also an additional cost. Location for the price was pretty good though it was only ever a place to sleep.

  • 1/5 Macy D. 3 years ago on Google
This hotel was very poor for what i was expecting, there was additional costs upon arrival for parking, possible damages and a room with a balcony. Also the room was very small compared to photos, it’s employees were rude, the facilities were small and unusable, and it was next to a child day care centre so you could hear screaming babies throughout a weekday. I would recommend to spend the extra money on a different hotel such as the Emporium which appeared to be more worth the money.

  • 1/5 Samuel L. 3 years ago on Google
Paid $30 for parking to find there are 3 other cars all trying to find a park and there are 0 available parks except for one family who decides they can block a park until there family arrives. These were not residents of the hotel instead guests of the restaurant. When I told reception they told me to quickly park at the available park on the street however they had only just charged me $30 for indoor parking. The family’s car ended up being too big so they created there own park in the carpark which is apparently ok and we were refunded our $30. There was also a stain on the toilet, the bathroom doors are see through, and I did not receive the same apartment as advertised, I got a significantly smaller balcony and it was extremely expensive for over $300 for one night. Would not recommend.

We booked for a 3 night stay for 2 adults 3 children. Only stayed one night. The room hadn't been cleaned, rubbish under couch and hidden behind bin. Only two beds no extra bed for third child. Shower didnt drain so flooded through to toilet. The receptionist was nice and luckily had full refund for the two nights not stayed.

Arrived early and got the spa bath room 30" earlier which was a great start. The room just got " cleaned" , toilet seat dirty, bath with hair, fingers marks on mirrors... Reception changed us to a studio ( no bath ) straight away. But again disappointed, the vaccuming must of been an option, one bathrobe for two people, when running the water noisy pipe noise at the same time, had to request coffee pods " included in room "... Noisy top neighbours until 1am...well cheap enough for one room and one night only . The pool was good on top floor. The rooms have potential but housekeeping must définititevy improve for a better rating .

  • 5/5 Alena K. 2 years ago on Google
Not sure how the star rating service works for accommodation but can tell you that this feels like it is well deserving of more than 3 stars. Suzy is very personable and friendly and has done a fantastic job with Menso at Southbank. The quality of fixtures and fittings in the rooms are 5 star, with all the extras you want and need like a pool, BBQ and Suzy's Bar. Location being in the heart of Southbank is perfect for those wanting to stay in the area. Would highly recommend to anyone looking in the area.

As everyone else is saying, avoid this hotel. Room was nice but only half cleaned since last occupant, toilet dirty, used towel hanging up, bins full, bed looked sleeping in. As it was out of reception hours there was no one to let know about it and try for a clean room.

  • 2/5 Pete S. 2 years ago on Google
The rooms were clean but the TV didn't work. The location is great so if you are just after a great location and a reasonable nights' sleep with minimal service then this is your place

I don’t usually write reviews but wanted to save someone’s future money! Very poor value for money, staff didn’t clean our room across the 5 days of our stay (even when requested), pictures oversell space, additional costs for everything you require on site (parking, washing machines, dishwashing liquid).

  • 1/5 a s. 2 years ago on Google
They didn’t clean up my room for 5 days! It says they clean on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, I request them to clean but didn’t happened. Receptionist is often away. Room is very dark and not pretty. Never stay here anymore.

  • 5/5 Louise C. 2 years ago on Google
Stayed for 1 night during a business trip. Great location, with only a short walk to South Bank. The room had everything we needed and was prefect for our quick stay. My only suggestion would be to add some USB points to 1 or 2 power points so that we could have charged our phones. We will stay there again!

  • 5/5 Francis M. 1 year ago on Google
Very good rooms, limited reception but the apartments are all well maintained with good advice and amenities. The only thing that I couldn’t find was a kitchen table but maybe if I stayed more than 2 nights I might have found that :-)
