The Spit has to be one of the most beautiful and empty beaches on the Gold Coast if you don't drive all the way up and go and walk to the beach through one of the trails you will come out and find yourself completely alone. I have spent so many wonderful afternoons just relaxing and watching the sky, considering how close it is to everything there is not much light pollution at all. In November I always go and look at the 7 sisters. I have seen the most beautiful gold meteorite come streaking across the night sky, it's a beautiful spot to sit and watch the moon come up over the ocean. Even though the beach is quite empty I don't feel scared when I am alone there and my boyfriend and I have often accidentally fell asleep on the beach and left the next morning. I wouldn't recommend swimming there unless you are a good swimmer and know how to identify a rip and to always be aware of your surroundings. It's also a nice place to go and sit in your car and watch the water as a distraction from life. I really love it and hope there are no plans to develop it to the point that it is filled with light pollution. I have included some of the many photos taken over the last few years.

This has become a really pretty spot to sit and watch the boats go past. The grounds are well looked after and in more recent years they have added seats and shaded spots all the way along the seaway. It’s a lovely spot to watch the sun go down or to sit and enjoy your fish and chips.

Definitely one of the most iconic places to visit on the Gold Coast. I recommend that visit this place in the morning and watch the sunrise over the ocean, which is a stunning view. The other time would be just before dusk, the sunset is not as impressive as the sunrise. But still, a beautiful spot for a walk down the spit or along the beach, and if you are lucky enough you may see a seal or other wildlife. So keep your eyes peeled. There is plenty of parking here. Enjoy. 😊😇🥰

Amazing views and the walkway is well maintained. Easy walk to the end of the Spit - highly recommend if you're visiting the area during sunset. We even saw some dolphins!

Great view and nice shaded break area along the way (it’s not that long a walk). You do get buffeted by sand when the wind is strong and blowing in the right direction, but not a complaint, just nature being nature.

The Spit is my favourite spot on the Gold Coast. We took maternity photos here. The scenery is absolutely beautiful from the light house to Main Beach. I take my son here for a beach walk every now and then.

Lots of nearby parking and toilets were quite clean (for public toilets). Very windy the day we went, but worth it given how spectacular the sunset was. Sunrise would look great too

the site is being transformed with new infrastructure (roads water and parking) so it may have changed from your last visit. obligatory showers and changing with loo's. a cafe and of course dolphins with a beach with good surf. the only downside was boats speeding into the bay disturbing the coastline.

Make a day of it. Take the kids, hubby and dogs. Cats might be a problem? All recreation wheeled items like skareboards, bicycles, scooters, rollerskares are welcomed. Remember to bring doggy bags. Paths are shared, so keep left. Plenty seating areas, and lots to do. Coffee, breakfast and even luncheons are on order. Plenty parking and amenaties. Scuba diving school and fishing are very popular in this area. No spear fishing. Big open park play area. Entrance to dog beach. Great beach for everyone. Dogs love it. Small to big and old. What a treat. It's a good morning out, a must go. We will return with more friends.

Great spot to go for a walk. Beach nearby which was good for swimming or surfing (as seen some surfers there the day I went). Great views of the ocean and surrounding areas. Cafe nearby as well as public toilets. Plenty of parking around. Definitely a worthwhile place to visit.

We took our scooter for a great bike ride. We really enjoyed the view and relaxation. It is an excellent place for the community to go for fishing, dog walking and bodyboard opposite the split.

It’s a beautiful place to relax, snorkeling, picnic, do walkings, chilling, see the turtles 🐢 come up of the water to take a breath, blue sea 🌊, beautiful sea animals, the breezes, the dogs 🐕 playing around so actively, and so many water activities you could do here.. you could take a good picture here as well.. you will never get over the beauty of the nature here.. it’s like a art when you stand on top of the rock at the end of spit rock there! I loved it.. you will love it too..

Spectacular views and a great place to walk around. Plenty of room to have a picnic or even go for a swim . Lots of people out and about particularly on the weekends . We boated from Sovereign Island and going through the channel was a lot of fun.

The parking near the fishing area, CLOSES at 8PM!! There is a $60 dollar release fee so I am just warning people who just wants a nice stroll late at night. The place has such dim lighting you can't even see the signs warning the closure time, you spend more of your time focusing on the road so you don't hit anything. I feel sorry for those including me that they grabbed money from because of this remarkable tactic of dim lighting, plain signs with no change of font size for closed times and have the release fee warning + security contact number for those parked in trying to get out and not faced towards people going into the parking area. I wouldn't be making this bad review just for this because Australia does have strange closing times. I am reviewing this area due to the fact that my mum called the security number to get a lady who had disgusting customer service. My mum accidentally said the card number wrong because the environment was dark and it was not her card but mine, the lady then proceeded to say "Stop mucking around, your 20 minutes wait to get out is going to turn to a 2 hour wait". You don't say that to paying customers at all, I know its late and you're probably tired, but if you are " Just trying to do your job" with that attitude, I suggest to replace her with someone with consideration and patience.

I haven’t been out here since they sealed the path out to the lighthouse and it’s been done really beautifully. You can now walk out there barefoot without having that “stood on a piece of Lego” feeling every 10 steps. Completely sealed and you can still access the giant boulders to sit on. Around the lighthouse is a metal balustrade, probably for safety, however for those who still like to risk it, it’s east to climb over. I didn’t notice any signage discouraging this. The bay is still beautiful, with the odd surfer here and there. One of my favourite Gold Coast destinations.

What a marvelous place! Sunrise, sunset, dog beach, lighthouse, jetty, pier, lawns, ocean for both sailing and surfing, diving, fishing, jogging, cycling, cafe, picnic, amusement park, almost everything! What else can you expect? The only problem is poor transportation.

One of the most breathtaking places to visit on the Gold Coast, whether you’re a visitor or a local. This spot provides the opportunity of what GC has to offer, a dog and family friendly beach, city skyline on the other side, decent waves for surfers or soak up the sun and rich minerals on the sands. There’s a cafe onsite to nibble, grab a bite, or stop by at the Peters fish & chips shop on the way to get here. Plenty of options to do. Sit, relax and chill, listen to the sound of the waves, smell and fill your lungs with clean oxygen. Such a zen feeling this place brings.

I was on the Gold Coast doing a dog/house-sit. We took Champ to The Spit, where there is a designated off-leash dog beach. Champ had so much fun!! Everyone was very respectful. Champ is nervous around other dogs, and pet owners were very understanding. Champ stayed on his 5 metre lead but still had so much fun. Highly recommend!!

Beautiful place with a clam environment, truly as surfer’s paradise, swimming is not allowed in that area, and there was no bus till the area so we need to take car, or walk.

Loverly dog beach between the breakwater and sand pier, nice walk out to the little lighthouse in calm weather, just a stroll ,exercise or to gaze out to sea or may e stars at night,or a great view south you can see for miles, if your a photographer take your camera

  • 5/5 Jade W. 2 years ago on Google
Is such a beautiful spot ! Esp the walk to the end pier via walkway (wide enough for scooters and bikes etc). Has part shaded seating areas along the rock wall / pier. Guaranteed to see turtles, sealife and the odd dolphins, especially on a clear calm day (check tides). Also has steps you can walk right down the rock wall and swim or snorkel (highly recommend, thpugh again, check water visibility/ wind etc). Kiosk is located at end of pier / walkway for hot food, seafood and general drinks / ice cream etc with a deck to sit at if you wish. Amenities are close by. Right along side the Pier / rock wall / seaway entrance, is a great off the leash beach which is quite popular esp on morning and evenings. So many spots nooks and picnic areas, you will struggle to make a choice. Only thing we dislike, is the absolute lack of bbq's (nil to our knowledge) and not sure why this is (revenue made from the kiosk ? / keep campers away ? Etc 🤷‍♂️). If you have not been... Make it a thing and go ! Oh, special mention : Look for windy days, and go to the end of the seaway pier / rock wall, where there is 360 views , with a surprise drenching from the waves crashing into the rocks ! KIDS LOVED IT.. (and so did we.. from a distance 😉). Free Parking everywhere !

if you're wheel chair bound or walk with a stick, beware the potholes! Upkeep isn't a word known by the folks in charge of this place (at least not to keep it accessible to all). A lovely stroll to take with friends. Depending on the sea state, you may or may not be showered frequently with sea-spray, so be vigilant with your camera equipment!
