Worst public hospital at all! I do not recommended to anyone. My partner just got there having a panic attack and the reception have no compassion and empathy with him. He reinforced how bad he was and she did not care about! Just asked to pay more than $800 dollars to see a doctor. We are international students!!!! She said the wait time could be 2 hours! Really? $800 dollars to be seated during 2 hours in a place you do not feel safe? And with PANIC ATTACKS!? Apparently the patient goes in a emergency because is really serious! We left with no assistance! our country is not like that, no way!

My grandson was admitted to hospital with breathing difficulties and although the staff were attentive to begin with I felt that the bed was needed and so they were trying to push him out … he required oxygen support that night…. What would have happened if he had gone home. … our hospitals do not seem to have enough time, beds and on the ball staff to really provide the health care that is desperately needed. This is Australia and we are a rich country … surely we can do better!

Ramped for hours overnight. No pain management. No meal provided. No proper investigation. No follow up appointment. No care or compassion. Sent back to my GP to manage something that the Hospital should be well equipped to deal with. I question why we are still required pay taxes. This government has left our health system in shambles. Unless you are literally flat lining dont bother trying to get any help from this place. What an absolute joke.

I have had a very pleasant experience with Umesh Chand, who was professional and my blood test experience he did provide was the best and easiest in my whole life. Felt very happy and satisfied after my visit as I was nervous before my appointment. 4* stars in review, because of the car park, which I didn't use and the reason was the tariff of $17.50 for 3+ hours for parking (I've spent 3,5 hours in the hospital). Would be great to make it much cheaper as it's create a difficulty to park the car and actually find a car parking spot on the streets.

The parking rates should be criminal. So much for free covid testing when you can get ripped off with exorbitant parking fees. I literally went in, walked towards the testing site which was full of people, some wearing masks and some weren't. I asked for a mask and was told to get in line where I could get one but there was nobody there. Outside, just an uninformed security guard. Nothing else. I didn't feel safe getting the test done and I also didn't want to wait in line and be even more exposed. I tried to explain this to the rude person in the parking assistance number so I could get my parking fee waived and she said they never waive fees. I was only there 13 minutes only because I couldn't find my car from the nerves and went home without a test because of the risks and the costs. I'll definitely file a complaint about this because it's absolutely ridiculous and discouraging for people to get tested. Especially those of us with low income.

Nurses and doctors absolutely wonderful. They put up with extreme conditions but still do there jobs with a smile. Your taken great care of and the team just work so well together. Nurses need to be paid more and I truly mean this. Not only do they work extremely hard but have to deal with some very terrible situations. Thank you to everyone there, my stay was the most comfortable I have been in a hospital in so long.

I had a very good experience, The Blonde Female Surgeon was very good and professional, I was admitted overnight for a proper check for bowel condition. The Nursing staff in the ward were very friendly and made my experience good. In the ward you get a Computer next to bed to watch TV and order your meals. Very Hi Tech Hospital

Went to outpatient appointment. As I arrived 30 minutes early, I was waiting at the area which was shown in my letter. After 1 hour passed the appointment time, receptionist told me I was sent to wrong area. There was no apology and told me to go to the area I was supposed to be sent. I had to wait another 2 hours at new area as they had to reschedule my appointment. There were about 50 people in this small waiting area, where some are not wearing masks. I will never trust the information on the letter from this hospital.

We have our first kid in here two weeks ago. I want to thank all midwives and doctors and every one who help me go through labour. They are reliable and trustable. Make me feel safe and confortable in all the time. Jackie, Narelle , Jo, Courtney, Charlie, Jen…….and more that I can’t remember. Thank you so so much.

I would not have my antenatal care here again should I have another baby. I am that anxious of the birth now as a result. From my very first phone call at 33 weeks after moving interstate it has been a nightmare. They couldn’t tell me how the care works up here, they offered no choice of care, they’ve double booked appointments, missed appointments and kept me out of the loop on many things. I’ve lost complete control of my pregnancy up here and at 39+4 weeks I could not be anymore anxious. I will definitely seek out other options if I had another baby. I am appalled at the level of care provided to vulnerable pregnant women, I should I say the lack of care provided!

My expectations (as a patient) is basic empathy and human decency. Yes we get it they work under pressure but i spoke to them during a quiet hour with a request so simple and all this hospital has to say is in defense of their rude staff. No one is asking for royal treatment and given the reviews a lot of people don’t interact with polite staff. The hospital doesn’t even have the decency to simply say sorry? What a joke being sick in the Gold Coast

We took our extremely sick 4 year old son into the children's ED department 3 months ago with a severe UTI, they gave us antibiotics and sent us on our way. 10 days later my son got extremely sick again and was taken back to the hospital where we were informed that someone should have called us to tell us he had been given the wrong antibiotics (all contact information they had was correct) no one had even tried contacting us. they gave us a new script for antibiotic and sent us home. 4 hours later we were back in the hospital, we refused to leave and demanded further tests which showed he now had a kidney infection and was starting to turn septic. My son now has another UTI 3 months later due to a medical condition and we took him to the hospital on Friday night again. The doctor prescribed antibiotics again and asked up to call back in 48hours to make sure they were correct. I have now called back, been put on hold twice for 35mins, been refused results, was spoken to so rudely and told i would have to make another appointment with our GP instead. I am mortified that this is how they treat sick children and feel sick having to wait for results.

Finest humans being i have had the chance to meet. I spend two months there, so i should know. Superb team of problems solver, aka the doctors and specialists. Special mention to the nurses, caring, always going above and beyond the duty of care. They all made this experience a lesser burden. My gratitude and affection to all

How is it good for ANY human to have to wait for more than 3 days on the surgery they need after being admitted to ED in the first place?! Is that because the patient doesn't have private health? What about the effects of the strong pain killers, not eating properly because "you could go to theatre any time" and the patients mental syate? Lab rats are probably treated with more respect and empathy.

Absolutely ridiculous. I waited 6-7 hours or even more to get seen by a doctor. Absolutely outrageous and their service is horrible. Plus the hygiene is disgusting. I came here hoping for some medical treatment only to get shaded and told I had to wait for more people as if that helps having being sick and not being taken seriously. Treatment was only 5 mins short and I got refused the treatment I’ve asked for several times. And they say there’s no treatment or anything 🙂I’m annoyed that I have to wait 6-7 hours til night time just to see a doctor I will not be coming here again I came here needing help.

I cannot fault Gold Coast hospital or its doctors and nurses, even down to the cleaning folk. All very professional but at the same time caring. My husband had first class care in both Cardiology and Oncology. Sadly the end result was not what I wanted but it was not for want of professionalism and care, thank you all in those wards, you were marvellous.

My husband had a heart attack and was flown from Lismore hospital to Gold Coast university hospital, not one member of Gold Coast university hospital bothered to ring me and inform me that he was going in to have surgery and after the surgery I tried to ring and find out if he was ok and was told that they could not give me any information over the phone, I live in Grafton and could not be at the hospital when he had the surgery, well I didn't get told he was going in for surgery in the first place, so I definitely could not be there, then not to be able to get any information I was livid, I had no idea if he was dead or alive, I'm absolutely discusted in that hospital, still have not been able to speak to my husband and the surgery was yesterday. Lucky my daughter was on the Gold Coast and went into the hospital today, at least now I have some idea of what's happening.

Not the greatest care received. Attended gcuh suffering from a miscarriage. Ed sent me through to the early pregnancy assessment unit where they said they had no time to see me/perform a ultrasound due to out pt appointments. I asked to lie down and they said they had no where for me to lie down. Accepting this I then went and lied down at the cafeteria. Finally after 4 later they finally saw me and sent me home with a script of codeine.

Great Hospital. Obviously I try to stay out of hospital as much as possible, but when I do go there, it's always a positive experience. The staff are lovely and I never have to wait too long. The only improvement that could be made would be if there were more nutritious meals being served.

Waited a year for a level 2 referral to be responded to (supposed to be <90 days). Finally got a phone consult. Now that doctor has referred me to another department within the same hospital and I'm back on another level 2 referral waiting list. This is for a Colorectal follow up, after surgery GCH performed on me for cancer in 2014. So it's not like they don't know what I'm there for.

We had arrived to ER and had a horrible experience! I had been severly vomiting, my throat was burning, weak, shaking, bleeding noses for hours prioro to arriving, my friend also ill and the doctor talked us down like were fine and shouldnt be seen, when I asked to be seen he was like 'yeahh I guess' - disregarding how I felt because my heart rate was normal - not asking what was wrong, I had never felt that way before and wanted help. A man then fainted in the middle of the floor and the reception and a passing doctor just watched and did nothing while another patient ran to his attention yelling for help - they starred and slowly attended to the man a few minutes later. 3 hours later my friend had been finally seen for a check, and I proceeded not too as the doctor made me feel like I wasn't worth seeing - Im not going to go to the emergency room for no reason?! Terrible experience was very disgusted with the service.

ABSOLUTELY FAULTLESS EXPERIENCE AT THIS WONDERFUL HOSPITAL. Had to rush my 15 month old daughter to emergency yesterday with breathing difficulties (due to viral infection - not covid). Hospital took a completely common sense approach to covid risk (asking us history, accepting our assertion that we had recently had it and now had negative RATs) so we were ushered straight into paediatric emergency. They were so quick and switched on I didn’t even need to sit down in the waiting room. They checked my daughter in immediately, put us straight on the ward and she was on ventolin within 10 minutes of arriving (which continued for a Long time). We ended up having to stay overnight. Every single doctor and nurse was kind, personable and expert. I was offered tea, coffee, sandwiches etc. When my daughter was sick on me they offered me a gown. The hospital was spotless and well equipped. . Couldn’t be more grateful for the way they treated my daughter!

Care is fine, but what is the point of a meal ordering system once admitted. Given completely different food from what I ordered every meal and no drinks even though I pick drinks on the option menu, plus stuck on covid ward so can’t leave room. Admitted one other time and same problem.

My sister (a health professional herself) has presented to GCUH Emergency Department Mental Health on two occasions when life was bad for her and a real struggle to cope. She was treated like a dog that didn’t matter by the ED nurses without a shred of compassion or kindness given. Nurses are caring they say. Utterly appalling treatment. Mental health needs to be fixed.

They should be put under investigation. It would be best to seek approval before allowing 5 students watch a cesarean. There should be consent given from the mother and not at the hospitals discretion whether she wants to be used as practise. I gave verbal and written consent for a tubal ligation (it is what is on my discharge papers too) during my caesarean I could hear the obstetrician giving points as if he was teaching a class. There were 4- 5 students by my feet it turns out. He then handed the tools to a student. I protested and said I do not consent to being used as practise. The midwife assured me it was the obstetrician not the student. After my child was delivered and I was stitched up the student came around and said "Oh yea, we cut them out" I replied "My tubes?" and she said "Yes, we removed them" I was shocked, I still mourn it to this day and on my discharge papers it says "tubal ligation" which is what I had discussed in previous consults. She visited me afterward to see how I was doing. She said knitting in school prepared her to stitching up my wound and it is horrible. It is jaggered, crooked and goes from hip to hip. This is just the tip of the iceberg or horrors I experienced here.

Used to be great in beginning. Gone downhill. Doctors don't listen anymore, nurses too busy in wards, no one wants take any accountability when something wrong. Weekend and night shift doctors I felt were hopeless and refuse make any decisions or take any accountability for anything when I raised serious concerns and issues. And even then doctors just ignored or fobbed me off. Felt I wasn't being listened too at all. . In hindsight I should have called the Ryans Rule hotline and I will next time. I actually got even worse in hospital due to bad decisions they made. I felt no one wanted to take accountability for anything anymore here. The old Gold coast hospital in Nerang st I got much better care than this one. Just disappointing now and worst experience in 20yrs at the GCU hospital.

My 20 month old daughter sat in the waiting area with my wife for 6 hours tonight with a dislocated elbow. Yes, she was seen & x-rayed quickly, but when asking for an update, were simply told “the people who need to look at the x-ray are really busy”. Once the x-rays were finally examined, and the dislocation was confirmed, it took mere seconds for it to be popped back in. Disgraceful and shameful to make a toddler, who was clearly in pain and discomfort, go so long before being attended to.

I had a specialist appointment on 30th November 2020 level 1 area 2 at 4pm but arrived earlier . Watching a young man a cleaner work was so impressive I feel the need to acknowledge him as very thorough , and constant . He also helped an elderly man to the bathroom and then back to work . This young man is a credit to the hospital but also to himself . With Covid-19 all are working hard but let's not forget the cleaners they should be recognised too .

As this was my first Cataract surgery I was a bit nervious but the Staff were wonderful they couldn't do enough for you, and as for the Surgeon he and his team were a God sent, I did not feel a thing from start to finish, I would personally like to thank the Surgeon and his staff and I hope I get the same team when I have the Cataract removed and a lens replaced in my right eye. Many thanks to Helen who contacted me the day after my surgery, just checking to see how I was feeling, a wonderful thought and very much appreciated. Thank you all so much,...Les

This place is a joke. I'm sitting here with my wife who has been diagnosed with a problem from our GP. We were instructed to go to the ER if there were any problems... we did and here we are 6 hours into it and still in the waiting room... if this is what Universal Care looks like the Aussie can keep it. Waiting lists, no room, and the Gold Coast is practically Corvid free but we cannot be seen in an orderly and expeditious fashion? 40+ people and counting have gone I before her. We'll drive to Brisbane next time, even if my head were half severed from my body. Pitiful

Stuff are kind and nice, they were on time. Met happy nurse and office staff. A few things that bothered me. Hospital did not look very clean. Women's restroom had toilet paper all over floor. Carpet needed a good clean. and windows needed good clean. Partner said carpet smelt bad. Food service was great. But food not so good.

The register at the emergency department was caring and listened to me when I said I was difficult to get blood from and cannula. A lot of other different hospitals staff think they can do it instead of just getting the ultrasound out, and ALWAYS say oh yeah you are difficult... im sick and tired of not being listened to but gold coast staff believed me and got the ultrasound out for my bloods. They were all really nice and kind best experience I have had.

The Sub Acute section of the hospital are fantastic. My daughter had been to Robina twice in an ambulance due to severe headache, not able to stand up, not eating or drinking, vomiting and sweating and each time she was sent home. 3rd ambulance visit within 4 days and we end up at GCU where they think she has a spinal fluid leak. The staff are thorough and said she is not going home until we find out why she has been like this for 6 days now. Thank you they are all very polite and caring.

That hospital is run by students and it really shows. The doctors are extremely unprofessional, and dismiss any pain that I'm clearly in! If the case doesn't stroke their ego, it's not worth their time. The Gynos there are so dismissive of serious issues when they know that my friend has a history of Endometriosis. And as for me, I got made to feel like it was my fault for not doing tests, when they NEVER sent the forms. And not to mention the doctor who I see for my Ulcerative Colitis frequently talks down to me and constantly makes me feel like I've done something wrong. Definitely going to transfer to Robina where there's actual professionals who are on top of things.

The extremely tall lady in emergency was so condescending and rude about another patient in my earshot. I lost all confidence in anyone able to take care of my family member who took a fall and hit their head from that point . Not to mention it was all ok for this tall nurse to eat in front of all of us, mock the other patient previously mentioned and roll her eyes about the patient. Tried to talk to the head nurse and she literally WALKED AWAY from me, mid conversation.

That lady that spoke to me today 10:30am about my appointment being cancelled (again) was rude, not compassionate or very abrupt. It was already bad that i put at the back end if the list again. A little bit of compassion will go a long way especially to us who needed help.

Had a bad experience with Doctors and nurses in this hospital in 2016,when they failed to diagnose my symptons properly. I told them I could not breathe properly whilst laying on my back, when I tried to sit up I was forced down onto the bed by 2Doctors and several nurses. I had blood clots in both lungs and pneumonia. ( pulmonary embolisms) They had nearly killed me. They did not follow Ryan's rule. Listen to what your patient is telling them. I spent the next 12 days in ICU on 85% bottle oxygen because of their actions.

We had the most horrible hospital experience in this Gold Coast University Hospital Emergency department! They simply keep an emergency unwell patient waiting for hours and hours in the middle of the night, the only thing emergency is they ask us to pay 1300AUS before anything. The registration lady could not be more lack of empathy and seriously aggressive! she even asked to my unwell auntie to die!!!What kind of person like this could work for a hospital where supposed to save people?! You simply can not solve any problems here but get treated like a rubbish! The hospital staff asks the patient to die?! Do not come to this hospital EVER!

I want to thank all the midwives and doctors that were involved in the birth of my beautiful girl, I felt completely supported, held and informed at every moment. The birth suite is AMAZING I felt like I was in my own private hotel! I was welcomed with the lovely ladies bringing me hearty meals after labour which was so lovely. To every beautiful midwife involved, you help empower women like myself to feel safe to be vulnerable and to surrender into this ceremony of life, I can't thankyou all enough and how deeply grateful I am to have spent my most rawest moments with all of you. From my heart with so much love, thankyou ❤️❤️❤️

The reception, some staff and a student who saw me instead of busy doctor were so kind I just paid $570 for only getting a letter.. I was expecting they will give some treatment or medicines.. Maybe I misunderstood the system of the hospital in Australia.. If you have some trouble on your skin, just visit your GP Don't go the emergency department otherwise you will pay money a lot and wait for a long time to get see a doctor But I respect all workers in the hospital

A recent emergency dash to the GCUH led to urgent surgery The treatment and care I received was simply incredible and as an old RN I was both grateful and awed. Within 8 hours after presenting at the Emergency Dept I’d had bloods, X-rays ultrasound and cat scan and been diagnosed and admitted 20 Hours later - a Saturday- I had my surgery 3 days later home It didn’t cost me one cent We are indeed the lucky country and I’d like to thank my fellow tax payers as well as the staff- cleaners, catering staff, nurses and doctors

ROBBERY. After a 2 hour wait in the waiting room I got to see the doctor, who told me to come back in 3 weeks after I had a MRI scan. I was inside for 2 minutes. That conversation could have happened over the phone. That's also 2 hours exposed to the pandemic, in a very busy hospital, elevator and waiting room. That will be $15.50 in parking money please. (Tried negotiating but that didn't help any, of course)

One of the best hospital's in Australia, perhaps better than many private hospitals specially the maternity department. Facilities are at par. Care and support by all the midwives and doctors are above and beyond.

Uni hospital has the specialists she needs for her tumour and cancer treatment. Lismore had no idea what they were doing with her. Despite having her past records of stomach removal etc. Great hospital and great Drs and specialists.. Thank God she is here now..But looks like she could be in for a while. At least she is in great hands.

Probably the best hospital I've visited. Meals were good and delivered as per times, staff were attentive, rooms were spotless. The only real issue is the lack of "Coke" as vending machines only have that No Sugar rubbish. We all know the chemicals in that stuff is worse for us than the sugar.

Long wait times…. And I mean longgggg… over 2 hours to be even seen by any one. Nurse try’s to contact doctor and doctor is apparently “too busy right now” surely is enough doctors to allocate to these areas. Very appalled with service Update - doctor said was fine to go home, been over another hour and a half and still not one sign of discharge papers

Modern, clean hospital with caring, empathetic, knowledgeable staff. I have given birth here, received treatment for a pregnancy related medical condition, had an inpatient hospital stay with both of my children, and also attend the children's outpatient clinic on a regular basis. I've seen the inside of ED, maternity, inpatient/outpatient areas, as well as Critical Care for one of my children... I can't fault any element of service or care received at any point at GCUH. Staff are underappreciated heroes with genuine passion for their work. Thank you for caring for us!

I cannot speak highly enough of the staff. They did an amazing job in diagnosing. The surgeons were that mix of grey haired experience and younger understudies. The nurses though were outstanding. I mean, they are the heroes in my book. We should all be thankful for the healthcare we have in this country. For those that complain, yes sometimes that is needed in life and death but, if you treat others nicely, they will treat you nice in return.

Attended there (at children's A&E) today afternoon (9 Feb) with a sick kid, "Jordan". Suspected appendicitis. The doctors and nurses were wonderful - very patient, kind, understanding and professional, despite the kid being very unhelpful to his own cause. Please pass onto them how wonderful they really are. I recently had my first child here and the midwives and doctors I had were absolutely amazing. My first midwife Lauren was so caring and made me feel relaxed when I was first starting labour! She helped couch me through and included my partner as well. The last midwife I had while in labour, Amber was incredible she really helped me voice my opinions & options and didn’t try to force me to change my birth plan. Also the doctor Caitlin who delivered my baby girl hands down the best doctor! Those 3 ladies made my labour experience exceptional. If I could redo it all again I’d choose them over and over! After all that going up to the birthing suit I had beautiful midwives helping with my recovery and Bub but Sandy was so amazing she helped me try breastfeed and gave me so much helpful advise. Helped me with bottles when I couldn’t breastfeed anymore. 10/10 would have her again for my next birth as well Over all those 4 ladies made my birth so much more meaningful then I could ever imagine. I truly hope for my next birth I can have them all again!!!!

Giving five star because 5 out of 6 nurses were absolutely lovely that my wife had. Sadly one nurse Ann wasn't the nicest she had extremely poor bed manner and she was unable to answer basic questions regarding the surgery process. She also didn't fill out the forms correctly which delayed the surgery. My wife was in tears when Ann told her that no nurse would call me ( her wife ) to let me know that she was out of surgery she told her “you will have to wait to get back up here to tell her” thankfully the nurse that was assisting the surgery said that she would call me for her. Ann also made comments about how much pain my wife was in and made my wife feel like she was being a burden for asking for more pain killers even though it had been enough time.. Like hello, she just went into surgery of course she would be in pain.. I think someone needs to talk to this Nurse and have someone follow her around and observe for themselves how she talks to patients and their families. it was so disappointing to see because in contrast the other 5 nurses were amazing and you could tell they actually love their job. Because it reflected in their care/attitude. To: Ell, July, Kaylee, Elise and Mea I really appreciate how well you took care of my wife while she was in hospital. You all are amazing.

Went to there for a sever allergic reaction and didn’t have battery to call my mum to buy me an epipen or to get an Uber home and the nurse said that not having a charger is a ‘first world problem’ what a joke. After 3 weeks with fever and coughing I when to the hospital, the doctor with no more than 23 years old, after X ray and blood test, send me home saying I was clear and just need treatment with rest. I didn’t believed, the day after I when to GP and was diagnosed with chest infection and bronchitis, doctor said this symptoms can not be seen on x ray and prescribed be a proper treatment with antibiotics. 2 weeks prior this, my coworker when to hospital with abdominal pain, he was also cleared from the doctors and sent home, he died on his sleep later diagnosed with pancreatic. There’s is definitely something wrong on their procedures and protocols witch is fail, and leading to peoples death.

Just like to leave a 5 star review for the staff, for the maternal and fetal medicine team, the midwife's and the MHITH team and doctors. I had my baby at the GCUH in January 2023, during my pregnancy is was classed as high risk. Dr karl from Maternal and fetal medicine was always very professional but also showed alot of empathy and care, for my particular situation, also like to give compliments to Harleena the sonographer and Dr Ellen, who both did my scans throughout my pregnancy, they were very professional but also very informative and would answer any of my questions. I was admitted for a indefinite stay in the maternity ward, I was there for 3 weeks and the care I received was outstanding, the midwives, Colleen, Chloe, Amy, Amber just to name a few were always very attentive and always up for a chat even though they were very busy, as usual due to staff shortages, but never made me feel that they didn't have the time for me even though I was there indefinitely, and always listened to my concerns and made me feel at ease. Once i was discharged at 27 weeks gestation, I had the lovely MHITH team take care of me at home, Oksana, Casey just to name a couple, made the rest of my pregnancy as stress free as possible with this service that the hospital provided, they came weekly to check on my health, plus my unborn baby and for this I'll forever be grateful, as being high risk is stressful enough and they made it that bit easier for me. The day of birth, I had a csection, from the inpatient check in, to the surgery and recovery, there was nothing I could fault. Once my daughter was delivered and I was taken to the ward, all midwives were very supportive. Also a shout out to Kim the receptionist on the maternity ward level 3, she has a personality that is very engaging, she got to know my husband and I, and was always up for a chat. My daughter ended up in special care nursery for a week and the care she received from the nurses, especially Alida, her nature and hard work and care definitely didnt go unnoticed, definitely a great asset to the special care nursery, in those tough times you want someone with a caring nature to be around, looking after your little ones. Thank to all the Doctors and Nurses at GCUH for the care provided at a joyous time but also at the time of hardship due to complications in my pregnancy. Keep up the great work you all do.

This amazing hospital kept my dad alive and helped him rehabilitate post a stroke. All wards from level 5 neurology to the rehab team are exceptional. The Gold Coast is incredibly lucky to have such a great hospital and medical facilities. To all the doctors, nurses, wardsmen and all staff, thank you! Is it perfect? No how can something so complex be perfect. But it is world class and the people here deserve not only to be paid well, but a ton of respect. I will forever be grateful for this amazing hospital.

I would like to compliment the nursing staff and especially thank Dr Park for the ablation procedure that I recently had for my AF. He treated with respect and listened to me when I expressed concern about the placement of a pacemaker, which I thought would not solve my problem. I am now happily recovering at home. My only concern is that I was not given sufficient information about recovery time from the surgery. To my surprise Im finding that I frequently feel extremely tired and need to lie down. I remember being told that I could resume normal activities after the weekend ( ie 5 days after my surgery) However I’m finding that is not the case. A bit more information would have been useful. been useful.

This hospital is an absolute joke. I presented to Emergency last Friday with severe upper abdominal pain, nausea and unable to eat anything. With no ultrasound or investigation other than blood tests and having a feel around my abdomen, I was told by the doctor that I had acute gastritis, was prescribed a PPI and strong painkillers, and sent home, although was told to return on Monday if my symptoms hadn't improved. Also should note that I was told that I would be getting sent for an ultrasound before 8pm, and when the doctor came back just after 8 and asked me whether I had been taken for an ultrasound and I hadn't, he then went and referred back to an ultrasound I had taken 3 months ago when I passed a kidney stone and told me that nothing could be seen on that ultrasound, so he could use it as a reference to determine my current state/condition. OH, and seeing as he thought it was acute gastritis, I had to prompt him to inform me whether there were any foods I should be avoiding... You'd think seeing as gastritis is inflammation of the stomach lining that that would be one of the first things you'd tell your patients, right? Sure enough, after not being able to eat for a further 3 days without experiencing intense pain, I went back to hospital on Monday afternoon, hoping that I would be further investigated or given a better treatment plan, or both. The doctor that saw me looked nothing but confused when I explained what had been happening... Even though I was just relaying what another doctor at the same hospital had told me just three days prior. After asking me the same questions two or three times (asked me if I was on any contraception or if there's any chance I could be pregnant three times) the breaking point for me was when he asked me, "So... The pain is unrelated to you eating?" ...... I LITERALLY WALKED IN AND THE FIRST THING I SAID WAS, "I CAN'T EAT, IT HURTS TO EAT, IT ALSO HURTS WHEN I DON'T EAT, I'VE BEEN LIVING OFF BROTH AND WATER FOR 4 DAYS." Honestly, if you told me this guy had never studied medicine and was impersonating a doctor, I wouldn't have doubted you for a second. To add insult to injury, before he sent me away (again, with no real treatment plan and no further investigation, aside from advising me to get an antacid and go see my GP), I told him that I was going to need another script for strong painkillers - seeing as until I actually see a real doctor who cares enough to actually investigate this condition and give me an appropriate way to treat it, I knew I was still going to be experiencing debilitating pain. The look he gave me made me feel as though he thought I was faking the whole thing and had come back just for the painkillers. The whole experience was absolutely infuriating. Don't waste your time presenting at this hospital. I went to Robina Hospital when I passed a kidney stone three months ago, and even though I literally waited 10 hours, curled up on the floor, and ended up passing the stone in the waiting room before I was taken in, I still received better care than I've received at GCU.

Delivered our baby girl on the 09/09/23. I’ve seen Kirsten through MGP however midwife Charlotte C answered my early morning call to say I’m in labour. She was very supportive and listened to any concerns, answered our questions. We went into the hospital around 6am to be sent home as I wasn’t too far along but by 7:30am we made the call to go back. Charlotte met us at the hospital and she continued to provide great support through the whole journey, even when our baby girl was taken to NICU later in the day, she made the effort to call and text to check in over the weekend. The NICU and SCN staff were all amazing while our baby spent her first week in there. I was supported through breast feeding and kept up to date on all care provided. A few names I recall Georgia, Maria, Natalia, Ginny, Sebastian. Nothing was ever too much or too hard and I greatly appreciated their support! Baby girl and I are doing great and are thankful for all the care provided.

Whilst on holiday from Melbourne, my relative has had to access urgent care at GCUH. We’ve had contact with ED staff and the medical assessment unit. Everyone from the cleaner and admin clerk to the gorgeous nurses and Consultant Doctors have been absolutely lovely and diligent in the comprehensive care they’ve provided. My relative and I both have worked for many years in a large public hospital in Melbourne and I can honestly say the care has been of a higher standard at GCUH. We are very appreciative for everything that has been done for my relative and the high standard at which care is delivered. It also appears to be a lovely work environment to work in, with staff communication not only being exemplary and professional towards patients and their family but between each other. Thank you so very much, you’ve ensured that a stressful and unpleasant time in our family has been easier to navigate.

I've never written a 1-star review, but I've also never had such a bad hospital experience. My father, who had cataract surgery the day before, was having an extremely bad reaction to his medication. I called 13 Health, not wanting to waste anyone's time, and after describing the issue to a nurse, was advised to visit the ED immediately. I attended the emergency department at 8:30pm with my 80 year old father to speak to a doctor about changing his eye medication. I waited 4 hours in the ED waiting room without seeing anyone. Eventually after going to the triage nurse at 10:30pm (2 hours of waiting) and midnight (3.5 hours of waiting), my father (who needed is normal meds at home) could no longer wait to see a doctor and left. He is now refusing to take his eye medication for post-op care and due to his severe reaction to those meds, I don't blame him. I had contacted the GCUH eye clinic over 24 hours previously to going to the ED, by phone, and I was told the operating doctor would return my call. He didn't. No post-op care. No emergency care. Leaving an 80 year old patient with multiple health issues to fend for himself is shameful example of our failing health system.

I was in the Cardio B ward last week under Dr Agahari. Ive known him for about 4 yrs now. I would like to publicly thank him for his extreme kindness, compassion, professionalism, understanding & patience. I've had 4 spinal surg & 2 hip over past 8 yrs. My extreme physical pain at the moment, plus my personal grief, has been pushing my BP to very high levels. I also get bigeminy of the heart. I had very good care in the B ward. The nurses were compassionate at my personal grief. I've been very depressed. I have a lot of complex trauma. I would particularly like to thank the nurse unit manager. Thank u for your patience, understanding & being so thoughtful re my distress. All of you are very much appreciated. I have lost all my family in various tragedies. This coupled with so much surgery trauma is difficult. It was lovely to know that people cared & understood what I have been through. Xx

The emergency staff and most of the nurses were fantastic. Once you reach the maximum subsidy they get from the commonwealth government regardless of how sick you are. You are moved to the ends of the hospital with no care or caring. I was told my private health insurance made no difference here and I should be in a private hospital. We wonder why our health system is so screwed up. This is a great indication why. I will be going private from now on. I know where my business is not wanted.

If you want to feel safe, respected and that you will recieve decent care, then don't go to this Emergency Department. The street from the car park to the ED is dark and deserted, the triage nurse was condescending and kept trying to put words int my mouth about my own pain to minimise it. The admin person was deadpan and complained that my doctor was not on their records at the same address I had for her. She kept looking at me like it was my mistake. The room seemed deliberately set up to get rid of people, the temperature was freezing cold, the television was so loud that people were having trouble hearing their name called. It also forced staff to yell names out, contributing to the excessive unreasonable amount of noise. Some poor baby was crying, clearly distressed, for half an hour (seemingly unattended) and three elderly people were left in cold uncomfortable seats that caused my body pain, so I hate to imagine their pain. And to top things off, the hand sanitiser was empty, so chances are if you touched anything, it would have germs on it. Just don't go there. Clearly they don't want you and you will be in more pain leaving than when you arrived.

My friend was in hospital for 5 hours complaining she was unable to breathe due to a most likely respiratory infection. She got let into emergency pretty fast but then after getting a few blood tests and a cannula nothing else really happened. After the cannula, the doctor said she most likely had an infection, she asked them ‘what type of infection’ and he said ‘I don’t know, I’ve only known you for two minutes’. And then after waiting for a while, we asked another nurse if we could just get an update and she said ‘if we ask the doctors, that means they stop working’ and then opened our curtain and wouldn’t let us shut it because ‘she wouldn’t be able to see we were there’. Then after another hour we asked to leave and then the nice nurse that we liked said we could because they did all they could, when they could’ve told us that many hours ago. We still have no idea what is wrong with our friend #emo 😖

I've been waiting to have hernia surgery now for 7 months, my life has been completely put on hold because of it, I've been to their overcrowded, understaffed ED more than a few times, I called them to see just how much longer I could be waiting for surgery and they told me I'm a catagory 3 and it could be another 12 months before I get seen. Our government wants to bring another 500,000 people to the Gold Coast and we can't even get adequate healthcare as it is. Thanks for reading.
