I am leaving this (belated) review to thank Dr Christine, the ARH Nursing team and Reception staff for taking such outstanding care of my dog Eli last year. It's never easy to be excited for a visit to the Vet, but even the shyest of dogs could not help but enjoy spending time in the company of such a friendly, caring, and thoughtful human being. After countless (negative) experiences attempting to manage a reoccurring jaw abnormality, Christine was able to diagnose and manage the issue after taking the time to gain a thorough history and perform an extensive physical examination. I honestly could not praise her highly enough. Thank you Dr Christine!!

Professional, thorough, compassionate and fairly priced. Unfortunately our visit ended with the loss of our beloved dog, but we know the lovely vet did all he could. His gentle, caring and supportive approach from the moment we arrived, to the final moments of our girls life, will never be forgotten.

When our golden retriever puppy was diagnosed with discospondylitis and a transitional vertebra, we contacted three different vets we know for suggestions on specialists. All unanimously recommended AHR. Our treating team of Laura and Jarrod were exceptional; both are remarkably kind and generous people and a delight to work with. They consistently provided excellent care over several months, and we are very grateful for their help. Many thanks once again ARH.

These guys are 100% the reason my dog is still alive today, he was hit by a car and had multiple life threatening injuries, and has since made a full recovery. He’s a 10 year old dog and still acts like he’s 4 years old, post a 5 month recovery (multiple broken legs & surgeries). Special thanks to Libby, she certainly is one of the main reasons I’m posting a review. trust her and the entire extended team again, the whole process was mapped out and you could tell this was something they had under control. They’ve definitely given another 5 years back to the most deserving Golden Labrador. He’s a bundle of joy and loved by hundreds, thank you Libby and the entire ARH hospital. I’m truly grateful for your life saving service. Accident: 07/11/22 Photo 1: 31/03/23 Photo 2: 15/11/22

Having your pet admitted to an emergency vet clinic is never going to be joyful experience. But ARH were unfailingly professional, kind and compassionate when my much loved Great Dane needed help. I had great confidence in the expertise of the vets involved and I cannot fault the communication as treatment progressed. With my dog now recovering well, can I say thanks to you all - reception, nurses, vets - for making her better and for managing my anxiety through the process

Could not be more grateful for the wonderful veterinarians and staff at ARH! When arriving at ARH the staff made us feel incredibly welcomed and Ava was given the freedom to sniff around the examination room to be comfortable. Ava was showing 0 signs of pain and was still her bubbly and boisterous self, showing only lameness in her leg. After a few questions they took Ava to be examined. With no luck identifying what was wrong Ava underwent sedation and had an xray done.

I can't say enough about the staff and the care they have given our beautiful girl Mimi. They performed a high risk operation and we are very happy with the outcome. The love for our girl by all the carers' is clear to see. It is obvious their hearts are in the right place looking after our loved furbabies. Not just a job but a passion. Thank you and much appreciation from our family.

I would like to thank Dr Carrisa and the team at ARH for their treatment of our Maltese x Miles when he went into congestive heart failure. Miles made a complete recovery and his quality of life is good. He is enjoying his time back at home with us and we couldn’t be happier to have him back. If you have a pet emergency, I couldn’t recommend this clinic highly enough, especially Dr Carrisa, she is a ⭐️ .

We are eternally greatful to the staff who showed so much compassion for our family. Our little Lilly was treated with so much love. They gave us advice on how the procedures would go and gave us a rundown on the costs. Though it was pricey we know that our Lilly got the best care. She was loved in this life and loved even more at the end of her days here with our family surrounding her. Thank you so much to the staff. I recommend Animal Referral Hospital to all. Your loving pet will be looked after by professional loving staff. Thank you for your service

Absolutely horrible people. The vet spent more time telling us how much she needed to have paid to them than telling us what was wrong with our dog. Given an estimate of $1500. Went back the next day and told we now owe $3800. Our baby died and we still don’t even have a vet tell us what happened. At 3 am she died in our arms. We asked for her to be transferred to a pet crematorium that we trust. Keep in mind it is 3 am, no reception staff, no ability whatsoever to pay. The pet crematorium turned up to retrieve our baby at midday. They were told they refused to release her body because we hadn’t paid the bill (which we couldn’t have at 3 am). Holding you’re loved one to ransom is absolutely disgusting. All you had to do was call me but you put us through trauma. When I rang to sort it out you were rude and frankly awful in your attitude. I would NEVER use you again. You are lacking in empathy and seriously impersonal. You got your money, it’s all you cared about.

Our beloved Shadow a 17+ year old Pomeranian had a bad health turn over the weekend, out of our vet working hours - of course. We knew it would happen sometime but it occurred very quickly and he was clearly in great distress. We made the mercy phone call and dash to your hospital, and we can say that you guys were just fantastic. Efficient and empathetic, this was all handled with great care and dignity. We had a chance to be with Shadow and see him off on his next adventure. All the staff were great, especially the young vet. Thank you so much.

We went to Animal Referral Hospital to get answers to why our 17mth old boxer had been sick for the past month . Although the answers were not what we wanted to hear we have no hesitation in recommending this Hospital . From the moment we walked in we were greeted with a warm "hello" , & then we met Dr Gemma Birnie & we knew then we were in the right place .We felt like whatever we said was "heard " and taken into consideration. The kindness she showed us under the difficult circumstances will never be forgotten. Thankyou .

We needed a vet urgently. The staff were fabulous, so caring. We unfortunately had to say goodbye to Zane but the vet was so lovely. It was a difficult night but it was made easier by the staff at ANF.

Very helpful. Gave me all the information about our dog’s situation and they were very clear about what was needed and what it would cost, so I had no surprises and we could make our decisions knowing everything. Very understanding and kind and patient while I sorted the finances out, and very accommodating in the middle of the night, and in the following days. I honestly don’t know how you all cope working with animal emergencies and stressed owners like me! But you do an amazing job! Thank you - I’m so pleased you were there to help me and Daf!

I'd like to thank Dr Emma with her caring attitude and her considerable knowledge, with the very sad untimely passing of our Sydney, the Cornish Rex over the Labor Day long weekend. I wish Dr Emma and staff all the best for these hard, emotionally charged times. The clinic was neat and tidy and we were triaged quickly on both occasions. Dr Emma explained the sad findings of blood tests and what our options were. She remained calm and professional yet caring through out the entire process. Thank you for trying.

Dr Lance & Dr Kasey were very helpful with my dog (Lewis) on Monday and kept me up to date with his progress till discharge today (Thursday). Shona was also very kind and helpful when it came to finance for his surgery. I hope I don’t have to come here again but if my animals ever need help I know where to take them, no question. Very nice facilities and people.

Absolutely amazing team. One of my rats had a respiratory distress episode and they kept him overnight on oxygen. When I came to pick him up in the morning he was finally eating, drinking and responsive. Beautiful caring team, highly recommend.

I cannot praise this hospital enough. I have, in the past, had an appalling experience with an emergency vet at Stafford and when my vet said that my incredibly ill cat needed to be transferred to hospital I was terrified but felt better that it wasn't the previous emergency hospital. Bertie was transferred by animal ambulance, on oxygen, and eventually a tick was found to be the cause of his condition. He is a British Shorthair, and black, so the tick was difficult to find. Once the cause was discovered his treatment was dedicated and expedient. At all times I was kept informed and the vet and other staff were truly amazing. I am truly grateful to the hospital, the animal ambulance and my local vet that I still have my beloved Bertie.

Had to take a very sick kitten here on the weekend, he had to stay there. They were incredibly busy but found the time to keep me fully updated on his progress. I had the vet looking after him call me with updates and were happy for me to call at anytime to get updates between their calls. I couldn't recommend them more highly, they are the best Animal Hospital I have ever had to take my animals to.

Our dog was first diagnosed with nasal/brain cancer back in June 2019 and eventually we were referred to ARH to perform Stereotactic Radiation Therapy as a last resort to save her life. We met Dr Kathleen O'Connell and Dr Elizabeth Morgan and they have literally saved our dog's life. Dr Morgan took a really good care of our baby and never once did we feel like she wasn't genuinely interested in the wellfare of our dog. She really went above and beyond what any other average vet would have done, ranging from giving us a call late at night to keep us updated on our dog's condition to doing everything they can do keep our dog comfortable. We are forever grateful for all the help they have given us and happy to report our dog is living a relatively normal life now. They are genuinely nice people and most importantly they are very good at their jobs.

For an emergency vet, I didn't have a heart attack when I got the bill for my dog.. she was full of spirit and lively after chilling with these guys and she conned pats off every single one of them. AEC would have been $1000 more, easy. I know from experience

Excellent high quality care. Edit: update. ARH have now successfully resolved both of my retired greyhounds long term problems. My old boy had a persistent limp that had not responded to multiple treatment elsewhere. Surgery on his paw resolved two separate issues and he now bounds along with his best form in years. I then took my other hound in. The specialist immediately suspected the cause of her problem (despite its rarity) and ordered the appropriate diagnostic procedure. Surgery followed soon after, which was completely successful in resolving her congenital cardiac issue. Someone here said ARH was expensive. I say it's a case of getting what you pay for. Professionalism, expertise and two excellent outcomes. On behalf of Molly and Brutus thank you to everyone at ARH.

Unfortunately we had bad news for our kitty. But Maurine the oncologist and her vet nurse assisting were both very lovely and Maurine is extremely knowledgeable. She gave me many different scenarios, timesframes and costing to help us make the best decision for our family. I would highly recommend.

I want to pass on my gratitude to the whole team here. They have all been so helpful, compassionate and most of all caring and knowledgeable. The oncology, emergency, and customer service teams (big shout out to the very lovely Client Services Manager lady- sorry, I’ve forgotten her/your name, but thank you!!) helped me enormously with my old weirdo staffie, who is palliative and has multiple conditions. She really is a weirdo and it’s such a relief to be able to get her the help she needs. And the medicine and surgery team helped me with my very naughty poodle who did her cruciate ligament and had surgery and numerous tummy issues. Honestly, my pets are a bit of a pain, especially being so needy and demanding at this time of year when I need to pay my bills and have lots of things to do, other than looking after dogs! But, they make up for it with all the good stuff, and even though I complain about them, I love them to bits and wouldn’t be without them, and I’m very thankful to the entire team for looking after them (and me!!!). You guys are amazing!

Great facilities, lovely reception staff- consult did feel quite rushed and we didn’t feel very heard- but ultimately got the care our little one needed and we understand there may be other things going on behind the scenes. We did have supportive fluids overnight with an electrolyte study to support our cat, then a transfer to our reg vet in the morning. We didn’t get the chance to book before discharge, but the staff gave him back to us catheterised with a port without confirmation we were going to a place of care, which seems like it could be an issue for other pets/owners. Luckily we were able to get the last appointment with The Cat Clinic that morning after we left. Thanks to the team at ARH for the recovery of our cat back to himself. Prices are consistent with any emergency clinic after hours.

Lance the surgeon was amazing done an outstanding job for our puppy. But my goodness vets are pricey lol

  • 1/5 M R. 2 years ago on Google
This vet is extremely expensive and charged in excess of $6000 for diagnostics and an overnight stay. The diagnostic testing they did failed to work for some tests or yielded no further information yet we were still charged full price. They also charge you a consult fee up to $250 just to pick up medication. They only care about making money. In addition, the 40% mark up you have on medication is beyond excessive. Obviously a small mark up to cover costs is reasonable. But 40% is just price gouging.

  • 1/5 Emma B. 7 months ago on Google
I think your experience here highly depends on the vet you get assigned. I know someone who had a wonderful experience. However our dog was referred here and we ended up euthanising him. The vet seemed more interested in running tests compared to what was best for our dog. He did not show any empathy or compassion, towards our dog or us. I also think that they are expensive as well. I would recommend going to a smaller 24hr vet where you are more likely to get high quality care and compassion.

  • 3/5 Andrew 7 months ago on Google
Good, but expensive. My dog ate something he shouldn't and had to be induced for vomiting. Total cost $460. Granted this was a weekend evening so going to be paying a bit more. Other than the cost the service was fine, vets were friendly and professional and the place was clean.

  • 1/5 The Dome House C. 6 months ago on Google
My dog died today at the hospital because they exploited a dog who was already in a palliative care situation to make as much money as possible. The appointment was for information about her medication and diet so she might die at home but suddenly specialists heart, oncology and annestatists turned up. We had already told not to do give her annestatic or do the scan because it would kill her but they did it anyway to make money. So she died on the table not at home. No doubt they make money out of the pet funeral business as well. Do not bring your pet here, it is all about expoiling you and the pets for money.

  • 2/5 Chris A. 5 months ago on Google
I have not had a good experience with this hospital. After spending at least 6 months trying to find out what was wrong with our dog with our vet we were referred here. Within 5 minutes of the consult the surgeon assured us it was a cruciate injury, we scheduled him in for surgery right away. He has never been the same again, he still has all the original issues and now he can barely stand, and they charged us $6500 to break my dog more than he was broken to begin with. Thanks. I don’t really know what to do with my dog now, I’ve put him through so much and it breaks my heart that I put so much trust and faith in this place to fix him, and they just made him worse. As we drove away we knew this all didn’t seem right, I wish we’d just trusted our instincts because we knew that this all seemed too quick to diagnose, but we were so excited we thought we finally had the answer from an expert. But that wasn’t what we got. When we went back for the follow up they actually did some more diagnosis for us (at a cost of course) to tell us everything seemed fine…. Wish they had done that before telling us we needed $6k surgery which has just made him far worse. Apart from the fact we feel Cassie actually tried to help us on the follow up; I’d honestly be leaving this as a 1 star and looking at other avenues in which we should be complaining as I absolutely feel that they preyed on us as vulnerable loving owners, and they provided absolutely nothing in return except subjecting my dog to unnecessary pain. Would not recommend. Look for someone else.
