This restaurant was on my food trying list for a while due to the creation and idea of the food. We booked the table the night before and specifically asked for 2 high chairs. The moment we got there, we were told there was only one left and the other one wouldn't be available for another 2 hours. This is very unprofessional. Although, the staff end up borrowing one from a restaurant next door, attention to detail of your customer's booking description ability needs to be improved. In terms of the food, the portion of food you get is very small for the price you paid, 4 pieces of small dumplings costs $16. The chef special fried rice didn't feel like it was freshly out of a wok, it feels more like it was pre cooked. Luckily, flavor is not too much of let down. Environment was nice and bright, decoration was pretty and chic. Music was really loud, if you want to talk to someone on the same table, you need to yell. Consider it's an open kitchen style restaurant, the music plays well to cover up the loud kitchen noises. Not recommend for young babies though.

I love a place that can seamlessly blend bar and restaurant together - and can deliver on both. As our hostess walked us through the space, I noticed that they were easily booked out. Friends and lovers sat at tables, sharing meals and laughing with cocktails in hand. Despite being full, I found that our table could easily talk to one another without fighting above the music or bad acoustics. We chose our meals based on my friends recommendation - miso caramel eggplant, eggplant katsu and cumin spiced friend cauliflower. We paired this with the Lola Paloma and the geisha cocktail. Our drinks arrived shortly after the waitress left. I loved the bold flavours of the watermelon and chilli in the Lola paloma, a combination I haven't really seen or tried before. I wouldn't normally drink a cocktail while I'm eating, but the flavours compliment the asian dishes so perfectly, that I found myself sipping on it after almost every bite. The bao buns were divine, the presentation simple but clean. The miso eggplant was delicious and had a very different taste to the baos. The cauliflower was quite coconutty, and I found it interesting that it was served with mint leaves on top but it actually created a really fresh and tropical profile. The only thing I'd say is it they could have been a little more generous with the sauce it was resting on. However, everything was fresh and full of incredible, interesting flavours. Overall, I really loved my experience and I would definitely come back to Light Years again. I think this could be my new favourite restaurant on the gold coast. Simply Amazing, great food and drinks in a nicely decorated space with excellent staff and great service. The food here is asian inspired bliss. The dishes are sublime and made to share (but you will not want to share!). Very good value for money and taste so good. The cocktails and drinks are also very good. The staff are very helpful and friendly.

We’ve been a fan of Light Years when it was only the small little place in the back streets in Byron Bay. So glad they’ve expanded up the coast into Queensland. It is a lot bigger than the restaurant in Byron and is very well put together. Food is top notch and the fish curry was amazing. It has to be one of the best fish curries we’ve had in a very long time. Dishes are all perfect for sharing. Highly recommend Light Years for any occasion.

I love this place. The food is absolutely amazing and so are the cocktails. I've been here at least 4 times and every single time the service and the food never disappoints. Unfortunately there's road works at the moment for the tram, which can't be helped, however we booked for 6.30pm and sat outside and it wasn't an issue.

Food is good and nice atmosphere inside. Our chef friend recommended us of curry, bao and fried rice. You can really taste the flavour of the fish curry. Korean chicken bao is spicy and nice and fried rice is decent. Not much to complain about the experience. Just missing something a bit more special or signature!

We had such a great night at Light Years - Burleigh Heads. I was visiting from Melbourne so this was a real treat. Service was quick and super friendly. We had an issue with our second serving of corn, I gently gave them the feedback for future orders and didn't expect anything as we ate it anyways. When the bill came out, they had taken it off the order which I thought was really nice of them as we didn't give the feedback for that reason. Food was modern and super yummy.

Came in for dinner with a friend and got really well looked after by Tara, she was really attentive and efficient. The bar manager Elijah also made us the best dirty martinis we ever had. Food was on point as always, came out quick and quality 10/10. Will definitely come back.

I cannot recommend Light Years any higher the food flavours portion size and selection is a taste sensation. The staff unbelievably responsive. Kind and happy to please fantastic. Love the funky decor it just tops off the package. I have dined at Light years 8 times now I only get to the goldy for work a few times a year if I lived here I would dine at least once a week. Well done guys see you again soon.

Asian food with a western twist. Loved every dish we ordered, the pork belly dish was absolutely fantastic, well cooked tender meats with very well-curated sauces. Could taste the freshness of each ingredient used in each dish, cocktails were very well done too with a great selection of drinks. Definitely would be back again! Service staff were brilliant as well.

Great place for great food, just slightly let down by the noise within the venue. Was keen to try out Light Years as it wasa short walk from our accommodation, but found it so busy the first night that we couldn't dine in (but luckily allowed us to venture to The Little Plate nearby) that we made sure we booked for second night. Staff were great a extremely helpful with selections, and checked in with us every now and then. Dishes themselves were lovely, with slight twists on Asian fusion fare we had tried to date. The noise levels within the restaurant were surprisingly loud, as I could barely carry a conversation with my wife at our two person table. But otherwise a good place to enjoy a meal.

Been meaning to eat here since its opening.... Did not disappointed.! We rate our dinner as the best we have experienced in our 4 years on the GC. Every dish was sensational. Add the perfect music & lighting to give an exciting funky atmosphere. Already planning to return...

Delicious food and fun atmosphere! It was a busy night but the staff were great and food came out in perfect timing. Will definitely be back soon!

The food was sensational even when that night was really busy. However the beef cheek was a litrle bit tough and dry, the rest was all divine.

Had a wonderful lunch with a number of dishes between our group. There's a good selection of alcoholic beverages with a handful of delicious mocktails. The bao buns and dumplings were favourite, as well as dessert (had to stop from licking the plate). Great place for older friends and families, would caution against bringing children.

Food was fresh, well presented, full of flavour but not overpowering. Mushroom dumplings & popcorn chicken were elite. We got the chef selection and was a decent amount of food. Servers brought out each dish in a timely order, always asking if we needed anything else / getting drinks orders. Cocktails were delicious & a great selection.

20/10 and huge shoutout to all the staff from chefs to restaurant manager, but to darling Tony and Meirda. You two stole the show, with your beaming smiles and being so helpful from suggesting your favourite dishes, asking how every delicious meal was, clearing plates, and ready with answers to food questions and constant smiling like you just loved being there. The world has seen so much change in the industry, but you delivered world class service and the chefs gave us 5 star food. My mother and I couldn’t fault our experience and you made our day. Can’t wait to be back for my birthday with my tribe next month. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Keep up the great work. I would also like to mention this is great for vegan friendly outings, tasty and great value. Also the cocktails are above and beyond.

Me and my family had the BEST time here. I heard great things from the Byron Bay Lightyears, and the Gold Coast location did not miss. We purchased the banquet and positively rolled away. Plenty of stunning food and the flavours were just phenomenal and interesting. The tartar was my personal favourite but honestly every course was beautiful (not included in the banquet, but the oysters we ordered were to die for). Service was friendly and adequate and atmosphere was buzzing. Thanks for having us!

With its first restaurant opening in Byron Bay in 2017, Light Years Asian Diner has now expanded to 3 more locations including Burleigh, Noosa and Newcastle. It gives Chin Chin vibes, with a playful and colourful design and share menu. The cocktails were nothing exceptional. Our favourite dish was the Eggplant Katsu Baos. The Mud Crab and Prawn Dumplings had a terrible, gluey wrapping but the filling was delicious. The Singapore Chilli Prawns tasted a little like a curry. The Kingfish had generous slices but just didn’t hit. I would probably order all different dishes. Staff are super friendly! ⭐️ 3.3/5

Wow wow wow! Amazing service from the moment we sat down right through until we paid. The food…. I don’t have the words to describe how delicious it was. I literally wanted to lick to plate clean. We had so many dishes but my favourite was the hot and sour cucumber, hands down! This dining experience was a highlight of our holiday! Well done lightyears. You guys are amazing.

The food was amazing! The best pork belly I have ever tasted and I’ve been to lots of restaurants! The chicken was so good as well. The staff also went out of the way to make drinks that weren’t even on the menu, the staff just simply made life easy and the dinner just topped it off. I don’t usually tip but had tip generously.

Highlight for us is the tender melt-in-your-mouth wagyu beef rendang with fish sauce- sensational! The MYO tempura fish bao crispy and delicious. Excellent service and attentive staff. Thanks for lovely evening

What a wonderful place for our small office birthday lunch. The food was sensational. There is only one dessert on the menu which I thought was a little odd at the time but when you taste it you can understand why. There is simply no words that will do it justice. Not too sweet, smooth and creamy with exceptional flavour. You'll just have to try it for yourself.

I had been looking forward to trying this place for ages but unfortunately it didn't meet the hype. I will say the service we received was good and the restaurant itself is very stylish. However a combination of noise from the road, loud music and echoing voices made it really hard to hear people at our table talking. Food was tasty but not to the high end standard you would expect for the price. $16 for 4 average dumplings and $30 for bao. Maybe the experience would be better if you knew what to order or choose the chef selection options.

Really nice vibes. Food is average. its nice but the Vegan options are sometimes a little bit bland. the staff are lovely but also sometimes forget about you. Totally understand that they are more than often understaffed but important to note that if you offer table service only, you must keep to your capacity and not over work staff when there are not enough.

Love this place!! We are from Brisbane and try eat here every time we are up. The staff are so nice and the food is on point. I’m not much of a complainer though one time I thought my food was taking a little longer than it should have. I inquired and sure enough there was a mistake and my plate went to another table. Accidents happen I get it !! The manager came out and did everything he could to make sure we were happy. It’s not about the mistakes you make but how you redeem yourself from them. You have made me a lifetime customer.

Had our 19th Wedding Anniversary lunch there, after recommendation from a friend. We were fitted in at the last minute. Food is Amazing, overall service was good, but had great advice from one of the guys on meal options, they were very busy, so took a little longer to get around to people. Will definitely go back again.
