An
employee
was
completely
disregarding
of
me
sharing
updated
information
in
a
calm
way,
as
an
experienced
Behaviour
Veterinarian
(i.e.
pet
'psychiatrist'
and
'psychologist')
and
long
standing
Fear
Free
Veterinarian,
about
the
emotional
risks
of
breaking
trust
with
owners
when
any
device
or
method
is
Added
or
done
to
a
dog
that
attempts
to
"stop"
a
natural
behaviour
(I.e.
a
species
specific
communication
method),
like
barking.
She
not
only
became
defensive
but
even
went
as
far
as
to
say
"it's
just
your
opinion".
When
I
calmly
answered
that
actiually
it's
very
well
documented
science,
based
on
which
the
laws
of
not
being
allowed
to
hit
children
came
about,
she
ignored
me
and
wrapped
up
my
payment
at
counter
faster
than
one
could
blink.
She
was
obviously
completely
uneducated
on
canine
behaviour
and
despite
the
owner
being
there
to
return
a
one
punishment
device
to
just
get
recommend
another,
while
clearly
saying
"they
just
want
to
stop
their
dashund
puppy
barking
when
home
alone
or
when
chasing
their
cat,
to
not
upset
the
neighbours
in
their
apartment"
and
actually
said
they
want
something
that
"won't
cause
him
to
be
uncomfortable
or
stressed",
yet
they
were
recommend
and
sold
a
2nd
type
of
devices
that
works
BY
causing
discomfort...I.e.
has
to
cause
enough
physical
or
emotional
pain
to
scare/frighten
the
dog
into
"stopping"
barking.
This
sales
person
had
zero
interest
in
expanding
her
knowledge
and
concerningly,
even
less
awareness
of
how
any
attempt
to
use
any
method
or
device
to
"stop"
behaviours
will
invariably
cause
more
harm
and
likely
long
term
trauma
for
a
dog
that
she
knew
extremely
little
about.
How
many
people
in
QLD
are
aware
that
anti-barking
devices
are
practically
illegal
to
by
over
the
counter
in
all
other
states
except
QLD?!
This
sales
person
certainly
wasn't
aware
of
this
when
I
brought
it
up.
I
challenge
all
pet
store
and
daycare
and
pet-sitting
or
council
workers
to
get
up
to
date
with
very
easily
accessible
free
up
to
date
information
on
why
it
is
emotionally
detrimental
in
the
LONG
TERM
to
try
to
"silence"
any
sentient
being
from
feeling
like
they
can
speak
up....because
in
reality,
when
we
deal
with
Canines
who
are
Obligate
Social
species
like
us
humans,
how
is
use
of
any
intimidation
method
or
device
to
"stop"
a
behaviour
that
is
natural
for
Canines
but
simply
undesireble
for
us,
different
to
emotional
or
physical
domestic
violence?!
It
isn't.
It's
just
that
Canines
in
particular
have
no
choice
and
are
their
ways
of
communicating
their
fear,
anxiety,
panic,
frustration
or
conflict
emotional
are
missinterpreted
because
of
lack
of
up
to
date
education
from
the
front
line
people,
like
this
pet
store
employee.
I
hope
we
can
all
stop
to
really
consider
the
perspective
of
the
animal,
rather
than
focusing
on
whether
behaviours
will
"upset
neighbours"
or
cause
the
perception
of
human
to
human
social
embarassment.
I
leave
readers
of
this
review
with
a
final
thought:
Would
any
of
us
put
any
"device"
or
use
any
punitive
or
intimidating
method
to
stop
a
baby
or
toddler
crying
because
we
didn't
want
to
"upset
our
neighbours"?!
