On a whim I booked this 2 night getaway 11 hours away by car. The Instagram Post promised a POD, in the middle of a Private Game Reserve surrounded by predators and other wild life. 3 meals, drinks and 2 game drives were included in the package. Our Game Ranger Tish, was an absolute delight. Young, insightful, extremely attentive she patiently ferried us all over the Reserve. Between meal dates at the Lodge and Game drives she made sure that we wanted for nothing. The hot tub perfectly heated by an ingenious wooden fire is nothing short of sublime. The POD is a mastery of detail and comfort. Within 27 Square metres, you got a queen bed, kitchen, shower toilet and plenty of space to swing a cat. The views and stillness, mends weary travels instantly. This is a gem dreamt up by a visionary, not to be missed and certainly for serious travellers bucket lists.

Beautiful location however I was a bit disappointed in the 5 Star Lodge. Rooms are bit dated and need some TLC. When the adjacent room flushes a toilet, the pipes screech. Burnt myself in the shower trying to balance the hot and cold water taps. The Dining chairs are so stained and dirty looking. The meals were disappointing - lunch is a light meal, no options and rather basic. The drinks incl were also basic. Charged for Appletizer- really? The Game viewing was good however, the Ranger was very inexperienced with only a years experience. Does not meet a 5 Star Lodge standard.

This place is not cheap but definitely worth it. Been there for two nights...what should I say? People are super friendly and helpful, food is amazing, location is wonderful, game drives are exciting,...so much more. All different aspects makes you feel like you are in paradise!! If you are looking for some unique time in South Africa and experience the real wilderness with a high standard: This is the perfect place!!

On arrival we were greeted by our game ranger (C.J) at the main gate, he was polite asked us what language we spoke and guided us to the main manor. We were a bit late for our evening game drive however were accommodated and given the option to still go on a drive dispite being late. C.J is and was a total pleasure to have as our guide over our 5 day visit and is highly enthusiastic about his job and showing us as much of the reserve as possible. He was very knowledgeable and went well beyond what we expected of a guide. We are and were totally blown away by the special attention to detail by both C.J and his colleagues in the kitchen who made every moment special and an individual experience. Both the pepper tree stay and the pods are a highly recommend stay that should be made by anyone looking for a special and unique experience. Thanks to Mt.Cambdaboo staff, C.J and anyone else who worked behind the scenes to make our experience a memorable one. We look forward to a follow up visit.

High end prices - low end experience. I was traveling with my husband and teenage children, so an expensive stay - we booked for one night and I was so grateful we hadn’t booked for longer. We were basically dumped in a house, allocated two rooms in the house and another family was staying in another two rooms. We could help ourselves to the included drinks in the kitchen. This was not the main lodge it seems and dinner and breakfast were a drive away at the actual main lodge. We were brought lunch (such as it was), carefully counted out to be one portion per person. There were no staff at the house so we had no service at all. Most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in, and it creaked so badly we woke up every time we moved. Got the definite impression this was someone’s holiday home and the lodge was maximising revenue by using this for guests too. Not that we felt like guests. On our only morning there, we tried to drive to breakfast but weren’t sure about the water crossing in the car so gave up and left without eating. Again, no one around to ask or assist. Even the spectacular location isn’t enough to make up for this bizarre experience. At these prices, there are many better options.

Mount Camdeboo is easily the most beautiful and relaxing place we've ever stayed! The views are breathtaking, the accommodation is so luxurious, the staff are so helpful and polite and the food is next-level delicious. We loved our game drives and learning all about the amazing wildlife and seeing them in their natural habitat is so rewarding! This is the place to be if you want to get away from all the craziness of life and properly connect with nature and yourself!

Fantastic unexpected experience in the Great Karoo. Besides the animal sightings some of the big 5 and other beautiful antelope etc. The land scape is truly unique and hospitality memorable.

Absolutely wonderful. The staff are fantastic. So warm and friendly and always ready to assist. The game drives were fantastic. Solomon is a wonderful ranger with a lot of knowledge and a real love for nature. We loved every second.

We only stayed for one night! I would have loved to stay for longer! A beautiful lodging in beautiful surroundings and with such wonderful hospitality. Tish and Ryan were really competent guides and our evening game drive gave us AMAZING sighting of rhino, cheetah, elephant and giraffe - as well as buffalo and plenty of “deer” species. Rooms were really luxurious! The bedtime story was a nice touch. Super braai group meal, tasty breakfast on the lawn. I enjoyed a swim in the pool too. Just not enough time! Thank you to the helpful and friendly house staff too - with apologies that I don’t remember your names. Highly recommended!

If you’re looking for something really unique and special, these Pods are amazing. We stayed in both the Plains Pod and the Eagles Flight Pod, both have hot tubs, but have incredible views and both are ultra romantic.

To be honest, we have been unsure about spending that amount of money (at least compared to the SAN parks and our typical budget), but after two days at this place I have to say: it is worth every cent, better than everything we tried before. If you think about going to a Private Reserve, you should definitely choose this one. These people do it for passion and not for revenue: managers, chefs, rangers. You’ll see it in their eyes. Meeting our ranger Tish will be a lasting memory, you’ll seldomly meet people that live for the animals more than her. She spotted lions and all other animals we wanted to see, simply perfect. The views are stunning. Plus: we had a 5 month old baby with us, which was not a problem at all - everyone being helpful and happy!

The PODS at Camdeboo was the ULTIMATE in privacy and capturing the beauty and unbelievable scenery of the surrounding landscapes! The level of peace and tranquillity being one with, and in nature is not comparable to anything we have experienced in South Africa ! The isolation and remoteness of the location of the POD gives you a real sense of exclusivity. The hot tub with its wood-stock temperature self regulating concept was adding to the remoteness. Not having to relying on conventional electricity to ensure a steaming hot tub in the middle of the Karoo planes was exceptional…. Our ranger and field guide Ryan Ormerod ensure 5 star treatment always and from the lovely coffee on the morning drives to ensuring heart racing encounters ON FOOT in the veld with Cheetas was and experience for the rest of our life’s ! His knowledge and insight for nature was unmatched to anything similar we experienced before. He really was key in what we managed to encounter on our game drive and his interaction with Abraham his intern was also noticeable. The food was presented with meticulous details, flavours and taste was just as enjoyable. Getting our dinner and lunches delivered af our POD added to the feel of exclusivity and making this destination and the people we dealt with one of the best escapes from city life EVER !

This place is amazing! Tucked away between mountains in the middle of nowhere, it's a perfect getaway from anyone and anything! The staff are super friendly and well informed of the surrounding area and wildlife. Ryan was our game ranger for our stay and he was perfect!! He made every effort to make our short stay super memorable. We stayed in one of lodges pod offerings and it was amazing! 11 out of 10 would recommend to anyone! The gravel road to get from the main highway to the lodge can be long and slow if you're not in a raised vehicle (you don't need a 4x4) so having an SUV would be ideal. Wish we could have stayed for much longer! Thank you Mount Camdeboo team!!

Loved it here. Very remote and far and very wild. Stunning scenery and very mountainous. Not easy to spot animals as lots of vegetation and this is even more exciting. Great staff, food and very relaxed place. Love ❤

Thank you New Mark Hotels for the unforgettable two-night spoil! Staying at Mount Camdeboo was truly an unparalleled experience! Each staff member as well as the owner Iain passionately embrace the needs of all guests. Rooms are classy and functional and the Manor House has such a cosy feel. The food was outstandingly presented and delicious -again compliments to the chef and her team. The game drives with Timothy was spectacular and extremely informative. Wishing we could have stayed longer as we had a fantastic time and still a lot to see and experience. Looking forward to returning soon!
