Great place! We stayed in the annex, as I believe the main building was getting renovated. Modern outfitted rooms (no mold as some other kook said) very clean. Friendly, attentive staff. Perfect location for exploring Split. Nice continental breakfast. No lift, so you have to schlep up some stairs. There are also some stairs to your loft bedroom. The sound of voices/talking/laughter tend to drift up the stairwell, and there is alleyway sounds, but it quiets down after dinner.

One of the few hotels that I’ve visited that have such courteous and helpful staff. The breakfast is decent and the rooms as best as they can be in a 1700 years old palace. Even during these COVID times, the staff were smiling and gracious. Enjoyed my short stay totally.

Very quaint boutique hotel in the middle of the Palace. Great location, great breakfast, and very helpful service. The combination of modern, technological amenities and original stone walls of the Palace is so unique and very cool looking. I had the privilege of staying in their largest room (Room 3). Other rooms can be quite small for two people if you are American and used to a "standard" sized hotel room. Because I saw how small their other rooms are is the only reason this is 4 stars and not 5. My personal experience was 5 stars.

A lovely boutique hotel with excellent service. Conveniently located within Diocletian's Palace, yet surprisingly quiet at night. Welcomed with local chocolates and bottled water. Ample breakfast selections were included and the staff was very accommodating and ensured that we had transport to the airport, offered to take our bags to the taxi stand at 5am, packed us to go meals for travel, and made us espresso before departing. Would highly recommend.

We checked in late on 18th August ‘18 to our horror the main entrance lights & air conditioning of the room was not working. The temperature was 34C outside, executive room was small & single fan was provided after the complaint raised. Issues left unresolved & forcefully had to choose other hotel without any refund nor apology, front desk (Maria) was extremely rude & pathetic, breakfast was meager, refund was not to be questioned. Wonder, how they got four star category?! Extremely poor conditions to live in & complete rundown from staff.

You cannot ask for anything better than this! It is literally connected to the Palace, our window was joined to it...the staff went out of their way multiple times for us, getting a doctor to see my son at the hotel, making special requests possible, giving additional information and suggestions. The rooms were clean, well maintained and comfortable. Delicious breakfast. Cannot think of any negative points. Thank you!

Great service and amazing location in the heart of the ancient palace. The front desk even reached out via telephone and allowed me to rebook a different night when I had a 24 delay from a missed international connection. We had an extremely easy arrival with returning the nova rental car and met by a very friendly and helpful porter that helped us with our bags across the short walk to the hotel and a brief overview of the historical sites. I highly recommend this very small (only seven rooms) boutique hotel. Note from other reviews, this hotel is part of a UNESCO World Heritage site. Walls are exposed historical bricks and there is no elevator. It would literally be a crime to renovate the hotel into an average SLH hotel. The rooms are appropriately sized (larger than the average in Manhattan) and nicely furnished (I prefer this to most other SLH’s I’ve visited). If you want a brand new hotel with large rooms, book elsewhere. If you want an experience and hotel room to remember, book the Vestibul Palace.

We stayed in the annex. The receptionist was quite clueless about Split, it felt like we didn't get the best service staying in the annex. It was quite pricy during peak season and we didn't feel like it was a good return on it as room and food were very average.

We stayed at the Annex location at Villa Dobric and could not have had a more pleasant experience! We arrived at the main hotel which is a part of the palace walls and were greeted with a warm welcome and offer of beverages. They provided wonderful recommendations for where to eat in the city. The kind staff walked us and carried our luggage to the Villa location which is a short 6 min walk from the main property and overlooks a beautiful town square! Our stay was broken up into multiple part as we spent a night visiting Plitvice Lakes and the staff was most accommodating to our needs— they prepared us a large breakfast to take on our travels and stored our larger luggage while we were away. They staff communicated with me via WhatsApp and made sure someone was Available to greet us upon our return, even though it was late in the evening. Breakfast at the main hotel was superb and the was a beautiful walk to start our day. I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Split— the hospitality they showed us from quickly responding to emails during our trip planning all the way through our stay has been outstanding!

This is the best located hotel in Split- it is literally a 10 second walk to the Diocletian’s palace, but that’s it main pro. The rooms are very small, basic, and old fashioned. Definitely should not be a member of SLH as there really is nothing luxury about it! You are just paying for the location.

This was simply an amazing luxury boutique hotel. It is located in the heart of Diocletian's Palace and is centrally located to all the major attractions within the old town. It can be difficult to locate (no thanks to Google Maps) if it is your first time in Split. The Diocletian's Palace precinct or the old part of Split is not accessible by vehicles so you will need to walk to the hotel. In hindsight we probably should have contacted the hotel before we arrived and had someone assist with our luggage. They did help us with our luggage when we left. The hotel is located immediately adjacent to the ancient roman vestibule, a circular stone hall, and opposite the Ethnographic Museum. The internal lobby is light and airy with a glass roof - the area also doubles as the hotel's dining area. In there is an outdoor dining area on a cobbled courtyard at the hotel entrance. Each of the eleven rooms are unique as they have had to fit them within the heritage listed Roman and Medieval walls of the buildings. I just loved the historic character of the hotel and how they had managed to fit it out with modern furnishings without compromising the building's heritage. We were lucky in that we had a standard double room on the lower floor so wasn't much of a staircase to climb but I would probably splurge next time and get the junior suite. The bed was very comfortable, and the room was well laid out. We even overlooked the vestibule and could listen to the singers performing there. The staff were extremely helpful, providing us with great recommendations on where to eat, a pre-packed breakfast for when we were heading off on an early morning boat cruise, assisting us with dealing with a parking infringement we incurred earlier in our travels. The service the hotel provided was outstanding.

Not able to comment on the hotel but their newly opened restaurant is worth every euro. Service was a big part of our experience. Away from the crowds.

Great quaint place in the middle of the palace. Everything is probably a 3-5min walk or less to really get to. Great location to go around and learn about the history of the palace.

Very comfortable and appointed room, commensurate with other 4 star hotels. There's breakfast on the first floor which doubles as a bar the balance of the day. This facility is not suitable for anyone needing a wheelchair. Of course, sorry to say, the remnants of this Roman village doesn't accommodate wc's either. The hotel is happy to facilitate transfers into and out of the hotels for anyone that's mobility impaired but retains some use of legs and feet for walking short distances. Stay away from the "Villa" rooms. The hotel may be nice with decent rooms, but their "villa" location is worse than a studio apartment. The location is fantastic (for both the hotel and the villa rooms), but in the Villa, the air conditioner barely works, the wifi is terrible, and the bathrooms are small and cheap. We felt like we were in a college dormitory. As to the service, when I mentioned our issues, I got a perfunctory 'sorry' but that's all. Very disappointed, and will look for another hotel next time.

We're currently on a 3 1/2 week trip through Croatia, Montenegro, etc, which has given us a good sense of the level of service, accommodations, etc that can be expected of 4- and 5-star hotels in the region. Hotel Vestibul Palace is located in the middle of Diocletian's Palace — you rarely get a hotel in a more unique location than this! — right in Old Town Split. It's surrounded by restaurants, and 2 minutes walk from the Riva. Super convenient! In terms of service, they're highly competent and solid. I wouldn't necessarily say amazing — few are — but definitely above average. No complaints there. In terms of the room itself (we stayed in Room #7), it was fine, but not necessarily something to write home about. However, for being a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, the "luxury" part feels lacking. For example, the bath towels were relatively small and thin, and reminded me of the type of towels frequently use in college dorms (read: budget). The room itself was small, which is understandable considering the location, but also *felt* small. We've stayed in plenty of small rooms, and you can definitely tell when the decisions made for a space has been thoughtfully chosen with a design-mindset — from the type, quality, and placement of furniture, to the way lighting is selected and where they're positioned. These sort of decisions end up making a room feel larger than it actually is, spark joy, feel relaxing, and creates a sense of luxury. Overall, this is a solid 4.5 stars: above average, but room for improvement.

Charming historical hotel right in the heart of the palace but somehow very quiet and relaxing. It is considered a historical monument. Breakfast is of a very good quality and choice. There is a small but pleasant restaurant menu and good choice of wine by the glass. Staff is very friendly and professional. People can make the difference in the experience. And I would like to give special thanks to Domagoj who embodies the definition of hospitality and perfect service.

12.11.22 Update: Hotel management responded to my review below. Management has alleged "incorrect information" in my review. Everything I wrote is factually correct. Management does not deny that it closed the hotel during my confirmed and pre-paid reservation period, did not inform me that it had closed the hotel, did not respond to phone calls or texts when I arrived at the closed hotel, and did not refund payment for the night I was denied access to the room I had paid for. In addition to a lack of professionalism, management breached its contract by not offering the service promised and refusing to refund payment made. No one at the hotel has acknowledged this obvious and irrefutable fact. Original review below: Hotel Vestibule Palace charged me for a room when the hotel was closed. After a 30-hour flight delay, I arrived at Hotel Vestibul at 11:00 PM on a rainy night in the off-season to find the hotel locked, with no one inside to let me in. I called both phone numbers (and even sent a text) provided to me with my reservation confirmation. No one answered. I was forced to drag my luggage up and down the streets of the old city of Split at near midnight, in the rain, until I found a hotel (Heritage Hotel Santa Lucia) in the main square that would take me that night. The next morning I received a message from the hotel manager of Hotel Vestibul explaining that as I was the only guest that night, and no one knew when I would be arriving, all staff had been sent home at 10:00 PM and instructed to leave their portable business phones behind the desk. Essentially, the manager had shut the hotel down without informing me. I cancelled the remainder of my stay there, opting to continue with the Santa Lucia, whose staff had treated me with exceptional warmth and kindness. Hotel Vestibul Palace actually charged me for the night the hotel was closed (in addition to the first night that I missed due to flight delays). This hotel advertises as a "small luxury hotel" with prices triple that of a typical hotel (such as the lovely Santa Lucia) yet shuts down at will and refuses to refund its guests for a stay and service that was not provided. In 30 years of international travel, I have NEVER seen anything like this.

Located right in the center of the tourist activity but very comfortable. No elevator. Can hear Kappa singers in nearby vestibule - wonderful!

I'm my humble opinion, Vestibule Palace is the best hotel in Split and certainly one of the better hotels in Croatia. Without doubt, it's one of my favorite hotels worldwide. Over the course of many years, I've stayed at this hotel 4 times, and it is always a great pleasure to return. To start with, the location of the hotel is moments from the water and Old Town seaside promenade, so it's absolutely where you want to be It is within part of the historic Diocletian Palace and therefore a very unique building, with some rooms having rustic walls that date back well over a thousand years. (Though the rooms themselves are very modern) The attention to detail in every room is impeccable and the staff, particularly Petar and Ivan are professional, friendly and helpful, and will do anything within their piwer to accommodate you. Knowing the ferry I was arriving on with a friend and riding scooters, for some reason, Petar was waiting for us to arrive at the bustling public parking area by the water, and then insisted on carrying some of our bags for the two minute walk to the hotel. Who does that!? At the hotel, all rooms are different and filled with all the modern amenities and special touches you would expect from a fine hotel. A wonderful breakfast is served every morning. As I will leave the hotel to travel around the islands a bit, then return once again to the hotel a week later before my departure, without hesitation, they offered to keep purchases I had made in Split at the hotel for that period of time so that I wouldn't have to travel around the islands on scooters with them. Hotel Vestibule Palace is the perfect confluence of many factors including location, building, staff, comfort and town. It is really perfection all the way around and I would highly recommend to anyone visiting the amazing town of Split to stay at this unique and amazing hotel.

BEWARE OF THEIR VILLAS. We were booked into the hotel but they ended up putting us in their “villas” which are dated rooms in an attic of a 2 story building 5 minutes walk from the actual hotel. There is no way SLH network would give them this accreditation if they saw these “villas”. For $500 Euros per night there are many other places that are nicer than this hotel’s villas

We booked the hotel for one night. Staff exceeded our expectations. We requested a private transfer from the airport. The scheduled person met us at the airport in a nice Mercedes and dropped us off at the Diocletian’s Palace entrance where two hotel porters met us to carry our bags through the crowd to check-in. They offered us a free upgrade to the superior villa, which is double level, larger bathroom, and more floor space. Breakfast was on par with other European hotels at a 3-4 star level. They recommended a great local restaurant and made a reservation for us. Finally, a golf cart transport (with porters) to the ferry dock is included in the hotel rate. It was an excellent stay.

Expectations when staying in a LSHW hotel are always high as this is good network. It’s nice when expectations are exceeded, but rare when one is almost lost for words. The service we had at the Vestibule was outstanding. The room was fabulous retaining a real feel of a structure that was built nearly 2000 years ago. The location is perfect right in the heart of the old Palace. Breakfast was lovely, sat in a historic courtyard. A perfect stay, thank you.
