This is a very nice place to have a chilled time with your family or friends. It has wide space for events also. With a historical monument, going back to the 1800s. It's a public area. Tourists always come over. They don't miss it.

A beautiful historic stone fort built in 1799. It located on a hill with a spectacular view of lower city in Port Elizabeth. It is located at the corner of Fort Street. Open Monday - and Friday 08:30am - 15:30pm. It is closed on Saturdays. It also features a small playground for children and scattered benches.

Fort Frederick in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, was built in 1799 in order to stop the French from conquering the Cape Colony during the Napoleonic wars and played a vital role in establishing British rule in South Africa in combination with the Battle of Blaauwberg.

A true relic of the past. It is well worth a look at, if you have the time. You can also get amazing views of the Port Elizabeth harbour. There is however no information centre at Fort Frederick, so getting a good background information before arriving will help.

(Translated by Google) The fort was built in 1799 on Belmont Terrac. It is a stone fort built by the British army to guard Algoa Bay. It is named after the Duke of York and the commander of the British army Frederick. The fortress overlooking the fortress is actually one of the first buildings in Port Elizabeth and is considered the beginning of British colonial rule in the Cape. The fortress of the late 18th century contained several major design features, the gunpowder depot and its original weaponry, including two 8-pounder guns and a 5.5-inch howitzer, plus the magnificent view of Algoa Bay is also worth visiting.

Part of South African history. The rooms need a clean up and better control

It's a brick fort with old cannons. There are no signs telling the history of the place. The view is upon the port and some industrial buildings. In both buildings inside the walls there were people looking like hobos who started yelling when we got nearby. Unpleasant experience.

Occupied by squatters. Use one of the stores for ablutions. A disgrace for PE

To many "bos slaapers" there which will attack you for you valuables.. absolutely no control and they are not afraid of confronting visitors... unfortunately, this used to be an attraction but no longer a safe place to visit..

This little known fort was built in 1799. It is clean and well preserved. There is a view of the bay and the tennis court size flag at the Donkin reserve can be seen in the distance. .

It really isn't maintained and cleaned well. What a pity. It's such an interesting part of history. It should be locked and entry should be managed.

Took my gr4 classes there during the week and we loved it. Then I took my son to see it over the weekend and it was closed over the weekend. A Italian tourbus also stopped there and was very dossapointed It should be open on Sat and Sun mornings!

Historic site with amazing view of the city. It is very interesting to see the bunkers and little rooms built so many years ago. A must see especially for the local Port Elizabethans. Our city is beautiful Gate closes at 430

👍👍 Moderate trail along the sea and partially on the beach as well. The "fynbos" along the route was beautiful. The sad side was a dead whale on the beach.

👍 You have to buy a ticket for R88 at the lodge to get in. We enjoyed our drive around the reserve and especially the Lighthouse. It was a treat to see all the birds, fish and crabs along the shore.
