I arrived earlier than check-in, but hoped to at least get my paperwork and registration ready just as I have done in many hostels before. However, the girl in the front desk told me to just come back after check in time. I even tried to ask her some info about laundry services, and she game a look just because I think she was having lunch and I was interrupting her. I then come back three hours later to check in, and then she tells me that I don’t have a reservation. I show her the email of the reservation I made back on August 2021, and she says that it is my fault because the date I picked was 10/01/21 and in Italy, they use the date first and month (unlike the US). I then ask her why the website allowed me to pick a date that had already passed (10/01/21 would be Jan. 1, 2021) it doesn’t make sense. When I made the reservation, I picked the date on the calendar in their website, but she said that I pribabalt make a mistake and even accuse me of using another website to book. The worst part is that she just tells me that the hostel is busy and no room available, so I can just use the wifi if I want to find another place. She even said the fault was 50/50 because maybe their website is broken but also because I made the reservation the wrong way. I’ve never been treated like this before, I understand this is not a 5-star hotel, but maybe some education and maybe interest to try to help me would have been better. If that girls doesn’t like her job, maybe hospitality is not something she should be doing. I now have to find an emergency place to stay because the hostel has a bad reservation website, and apparently it’s my fault too.

Amazing staff, great vibes, comfortable beds. Outstanding location. A+ safety. Thank you for the warm welcome!! However, 3 toilet/shower combo rooms for all the dorms 20+ people is a really bad set up and the reason I wouldn't book again. Dealbreakers: Waiting over 20min to pee after waking up in the morning, feeling insecure about whether I can access a toilet when I need one. I honestly considered changing out of my pajamas, walking down the street, and using the restroom of a cafe at 7AM. Bad. Strongly suggest that management improves the hostel by having at least one extra separate toilet, or one bathroom without a shower. Also, the privacy curtains are a great idea! But counterintuitive if they don't actually fit the bed space. Replacing them so there aren't giant gaps in the middle and sides would make a huge difference :)

There is a man who has been staying there for a long time, snores incredibly loud (i can hear him even from the room next door - i can only imagine how horrible it must be to sleep in his room)...and he just stays indoors all day long on his phone and talks really loudly in the common area, making it difficult to hang out there. Other people have noticed and feel put off by this person, but the staff doesn't do anything. They shouldnt allow people to stay long or ask him to not be there allll the time...there are other hostels and airbnbs and hotels for this individual to stay instead of making shared spaces of this hostel his personal space, affecting everyone else.

The hostel lies pretty central. Bars and restaurants are a short walk away. The rooms are perfectly fine for a hostel. However the bathroom situation is not ideal. With only 3 bathrooms available and over 25 people, the mornings are a mess. You'll always have to wait for a free bathroom.

We had a great experience and the staff was amazing helpful. It was clean and it had a lot of charism. The location is perfect, in 10 minutes walking your in the centrum and around the corner there are a lot of nice bars and pubs. Overall it was great and I would defiantly recommend and would visit again!

What a successful stay. The dopa hostel is a small family corner in which you can only feel good. I was invited to a dinner that took place in the evening at the hostel: the chef delighted us and I met adorable people with whom I spent the next day. Very clean common areas, located next to the center, dormitories also superb. I highly recommend 👋🏼 The breakfast is also included. J’ai hâte de revenir, à bientôt Sara et Charlotte!

If you’re coming to Bologna and want a warm environment to stay, meet international people and a cozy living room with good music and lovely staff, there is not a better place than this. All the services provided work perfectly, the place is clean the location is also very good. I stopped looking at other places in Bologna since I found it!

Cute hostel on the first floor of an apartment block on a main road. About 20 minutes walk or a 10 minute bus ride from Bologna Centrale Station and about 10 minutes walk to the main city centre piazza area. The lady at checkin was super helpful and efficient. You have to pay the city tax in cash only and the rest can be paid cash or card. There is a well equipped kitchen with almost everything you might need. It is kept very clean and tidy. The toilets and showers were also very neat and clean. The rooms have a bunk bed system with only a very small personal locker for valuables. Larger items might be possible to secure using a bicycle lock perhaps. I had to check out early so couldn't try the breakfast but it is included.

I only spent one night since I’m moving a lot. It was a really fun hostel, nice ambiance and great people. I would have stayed longer if needed. The only improvement maybe would be to give the bed cabins some paint and love, at least for my room. Grazie Dominica per le lezione d’Italiano, eri troppo gentile:)

Incredible hostel to stay at in Bologna! Very clean and felt like home as soon as you enter, with cozy common areas and a well equipped kitchen. The staff are friendly, speak good English, and provide lots of information about what to do in and around the city. They also put on a community dinner you can pay for (and I highly recommend you do) twice a week, with two courses and wine provided for only €7, it was a great way to meet and socialise with the other guests staying at the hostel. The free breakfast is also a delight, with a spread of cold meat, cheeses, fresh fruit, homemade cakes, cereal, tea and coffee made available daily. The rooms are spacious and tidy, and the bunk beds are well built, comfortable and offer great privacy with lots of places to hang clothes and store personal items. All rooms come with a locker with the key provided. I found it difficult to locate at first, and walked past a few times, which a few other guests also commented on. The hostel is located on a first floor apartment and is accessed by buzzing the intercom at the main entrance. It is marked only by a small sign. They offer a laundry service (wash and dry) for €8. All in all, I highly recommend Dopa Hostel for your next stay in Bologna. Its central location makes seeing the city a breeze, with lots of options for cafes, restaurants and bars within easy walking distance. There is also a well stocked convenience store located directly across the road. Can't wait to come back! Matt

This place has horrible customer service, they have become so entitled without any customer support! They are racist and unethical. Specially if you come from Africa. I am contacting the locals and reporting their discriminatory policies and posting videos on social media to prove how racist they are. I was not expecting discriminatory policies in this kind of international hostel. I’ve traveled all over the place and I’ve never been refused accommodation because of my background! The lady called Paris decided to deny my stay even before arriving, Even after I paid the hostel deposit fee. I am contacting every department to make them aware of their unethical behavior.

Good location (10-15 minute walk from central train station, 10-15 minute walk to the likes of Piazza Maggiore), cool but chill social vibe within (many like-minded travellers met during organised events like indoor food nights), helpful staff recommending their advice of for instance eateries amongst the many so highly-rated online. Room bunkbeds robust and comfortable with curtain for the downstairs, medium-size key lockers for storage, nice and clean bathrooms.

The best hostel I’ve stayed in. The location is very close to the railway station, the room and the bathrooms were tidy. Special thanks to Charlotte, she was very caring and helped me fix my own booking mistake!

Been traveling around Europe for 3 weeks now, and this is the coziest hostel so far. Decent price, and felt very much like home as soon as you walk in. Staff was friendly and gave us great food recommendations. I would recommend for anyone wanting a cozy and clean stay in Bologna!

Nice and close to the centre of Bologna. The staff are very friendly and helpful & the rooms are nice! I thought it was overpriced for what you get but then again there aren’t many hostels to choose from in Bologna!

This is what this creepy person called Paris wrote me while I get off the plane. I was in the plane for 6 hours and last thing you want is your reservation to be canceled, this is very unethical! Unprofessional! I used a virtual credit card to book and paid the deposit and they canceled my reservation without notice! This is very ridiculous Paris or whoever you are! “this reservation is already canceled because we didn't received any reply within the 3 hours”

Very nice but I can only rate 3 stars because of the overuse of air fresheners. Every time I went in the room the smell was overwhelming and some of the bathrooms even had two! It is not healthy to breathe in the chemicals and they were not even necessary because the place was well ventilated and clean. I would strongly recommend removing all of the air fresheners and fragrances. They make the place smell worse than without them.

One of the best hostels I've been to so far. The reception and the staff is so great. The location is perfect. Clean and great space.

First impressions - friendly and cosy. But wow I did not sleep at all. It was so so hot inside. I asked about aircon and was told it was controlled centrally and just shrugged at/apologized to. It was so hot we tried to open the balcony but then it was so noisy as the hostel is on a main road. So had to close again. I did not sleep all night. I had 2 cold showers. I ended up getting ill from this and it ruined the rest of my travelling time for several days. Don't stay here during the spring/summer/autumn if there's any chance of needing air con. It was only high 20s outside but in a small room with lots of people it gets very hot. I let the staff know on check out and was just told that's how it is - sorry. In a friendly way. But no solution for the future or compensation for me zero sleep.

Hostels in times of Covid are just not the same but they made the best out of it. It feels a bit packed overall, a more spacious common area with e.g. a garden, terrace or rooftop is missing.

This hostel is really nice. Perfect for solo travellers. Cleanest bathroom I’ve seen so far in a hostel. :) Nice interior and staff. Beds are comfy and the breakfast is included, with some vegan options. I can highly recommend it!

Dopa is one of the best hostels I have ever stayed in. It is easy to spot it was designed by a traveller for travellers: curtains to give you privacy, a nice common room, a really well equipped kitchen with a lot of spices and so friendly, welcoming and always helpful staff. Sockets to e.g. charge your phone inside the lockers, lots of command hooks in the bathrooms. Needless to say it is very clean! I love the little eco friendly details like lose tea which is available all day and reduced plastic use for breakfast. The overall vibe is just amazing, perfect if you are travelling solo.

Very nice hostel. Super clean and modern bathrooms. The bunkbeds are very sturdy and the curtain is really convenient. The common area is super nice and the kitchen well equiped. It is not super close to the city center but not too far either. The staff is great and was super helpful

Everything was perfect. I stayed in the female dorm. I liked the helpful stuff, clean and nice-design room and bathrooms. The location was great to just walk everywhere. Also the breakfast was nice (in italian style). Highly recommend!

Cozy, clean and comfy place on Bolonia center. Close walking distance to the train station and the city center, staff really helpful and delicious breakfast. I arrived quite late but I got all the instructions by email clearly without any problems to get into the house. Pitty It was just one night. Grazie mile!

Not a great place to stay if you're looking for a pleasant atmosphere with nice staff. Case in point: they actively try to remove negative reviews.

We do not recommend this hostel. My girlfriend and I had a long flight delay. We have informed the hostel about this. We arrived less than an hour before the reservation expired. We had breakfast in the price, theoretically we should have gotten it. We didn’t get it. We were asked to pay for the unused beds, in a very unpleasant way. In addition, the booking cancelled our reservation, and the hostel insisted on its side and threatened the police. It was very unpleasant, and although we understand the rules, we will never stay there again and stick to them. This is one of the hostels that will only cancel the payment if problems are reported 48 hours before the beginning of the booking. Not all hostels on Booking do this. This is a very unfair practice, because you get nothing back if you are late through no fault of your own and still have to pay for unused beds. You can’t even get breakfast, even though you should. I don’t recommend it.

Really welcoming hostel in a very cool neighbourhood. The location was really handy for the station and the city centre. Great restaurants and bars in the neighbourhood. The staff were super friendly and helpful; they prepared a delicious breakfast for us all each morning. The hostel has a really lovely, calm vibe - perfect for me because I wasn't looking for a party hostel. The bed was really comfortable and had everything I needed- a locker with a key, a light and a plug by the bed, and a storage area for my suitcase. The showers were great, too. You can tell that this hostel was thoughtfully planned out by people who know a lot about staying in Hostels.

The staff are very friendly. The hostel is a bit intimate but that gives you the opportunity to make friends on your trip. It is quite centrally located and easy to get to. Unfortunately the public transport was a slight issue however, you don't really need it there. Around the hostel there are also a few bars and stores for necessities. Definitely worth a visit.

I booked a room on booking, but unfortunately I missed the train. I talked to them that if I cancel the room from booking they will give me my money back. Unfortunately they took them.

This is a fantastic hostel. Small and homely, very comfortable and extremely clean! A lovely range of people stay here so it is easy to make friends with fellow travellers and there is a daily changing blackboard of things/events/activities that are happening in the city which was really helpful and really opened the city up to us. There are three bathrooms for the dorms which I thought would get busy but one was always available- and they were kept very clean too. Although I didn't sign up to it there were hostel dinners which were a sweet idea and nice for solo travellers. The beds were comfy and the curtain was a nice touch for privacy.

I spent 3 days in this hostel as solo traveller and find it really pleasant. The facilities are modern and clean and the staff very friendly and helpful. I really recommend this place :)

This was one of my favorite hostel experiences! Check-in was simple and the staff was very patient, knowledgeable, and willing to answer questions. The shared areas were pretty much spotlessly clean (THE cleanest hostel bathrooms I've seen). Location is near the university so there was plenty in the nearby vicinity. The hostel also hosts things (such as a home-cooked dinner for €7) that facilitate mingling and networking. As far as exploring the area, there are brochures and written events on the wall (e.g. where to find music, walking tours, etc) all over. Highly recommend!

  • 5/5 Anat Lev H. 1 year ago on Google
A fantastic hostel with a lovely employee that absolutely makes this place feel like home. I was there on a Friday night and it was crowded but the room themselves were reasonably quiet and I had no problem sleeping. There are also activities everydays and plenty of things to do while staying there. I absolutely recommend.
